With the launch of 1.0, the devs removed the solo and duo queue. 99% of my playtime in this game was in those two modes (probably 80%+ in solos, the rest in duos). I played from Jan 2021 - April 2022, and I took an extended break when Lost Ark came out. Prior to Lost Ark coming out, this was the only game to break 1000 hours of playtime for me (and still the next closest in my library is at ~300hrs not counting Lost Ark). I truly loved this game. And throughout my whole experience playing, Solos was THE game mode. I played a good bit in the past month or so, after hearing about 1.0 coming soon. I was honestly pretty excited. Patch day rolls around, and upon logging in I find out that Solos/Duos are disabled indefinitely. If I wanted to play squads, I'd have a better time playing literally any other traditional MOBA (LoL, DotA, even HotS). The devs have explained that their investors told them to "make Squads work". And until they do, Solos/Duos will not be coming back. The devs themselves admitted that Squads is practically an entirely different game than Solos. And they removed that game mode. The one I played for over 1000 hours. Just.... gone. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm heartbroken.Show moreShow less

I've played this game since the first beta. Over 2,000 of playtime. I've introduced countless friends to the game and streamed it. The developers make a lot of mistakes, but they can usually be overlooked. I was skeptical at the removal of solos, but I persevered and enjoyed the game with friends. They crossed a line recently. A large amount of PAID content is being removed as a result of twitter drama from 2020 related to one artist. That is simply not acceptable to me as a consumer. The content itself is not the issue, but rather the designer. As a result, all of the content in question is being removed from the store and redesigned so no content from the original designer remains. Meaning the content I paid for is being turned into something I did not pay for and may not want. We were not offered monetary refunds for these items, only in-game currency. This includes limited content. When I went to the community discord to voice my concern, I saw other players with the same concern being silenced by moderators. That is extremely dishonest to your players and frankly disgusting behavior. DO NOT give this company your money. They do not value it, despite being in debt to their shareholders as of the 1.0 release. They are more concerned with a tweet from 2020 than fixing their unstable matchmaking or any of the other legitimate issues the game is currently facing. I do not think the art team will produce good replacements for these skins of equivalent quality in the coming year. They will be rushed as they now need to make both new skins and remake the old skins from the ground up. I would be happy to be wrong, but until then do not give this studio your support. I'll be using all of the to-be removed skins in-game until they are gone in protest.Show moreShow less

A fun game with a lot of potential, being ruined by out of touch development. Mostly important for new players: You WILL NOT enjoy your time with this game for quite a while. This game has a very steep learning curve, and the matchmaking for normal games is currently nonexistant. I have been ranked within top 10 global in normal matchmaking, and I see many people in my games who are brand new to the game, with less than 10 hours put into it. As a new player, you will be playing against people who completely outclass you and have hundreds or thousands of hours put into the game, and you most likely die immediately upon finding them in the match because they obtain their gear much much faster than you, and somebody with gear will outright one shot somebody missing some pieces of their build, especially early on into the game. ***Note that this issue is mostly due to the playerbase not being large enough to support firm matchmaking, but it is still a problem nonetheless. Blatant balancing issues every patch, with some of the god tier characters and build not being touched, or even buffed further, for months. For the most part, the game is actually balanced okay, but there are some big outliers that stand out very hard, and those do not get addressed. New characters especially are almost always overpowered, sometimes to a massive degree, and are left in that state for a week, ruining normal games for a week by being so overtuned. Then after another week, another character comes out, and the problem is back, just with a different character. Also, player input is basically completely ignored. Whether it's from players at the top of the ladder or anyone in general, player input is completely ignored. The developers release the stats (win rate/pick rate/average placement etc.) of each patch and claim to make balancing decisions based on this data, but many times the changes made are directly opposite of what the data would have you think would happen. ***The new character's balancing issues could be solved by a Test Server, which is supposedly planned, but currently does not exist, and the playerbase being able to support it is questionable at the time of writing. For Competitive players: This game has almost nothing to offer you. The Solos game mode is horribly balanced due to characters having autolose matchups to other characters, and many other problems such as routing contesting or mirror picks, and rng from spawn points (some being outright horrible spawn points that can basically automatically make you lose the game if you spawn in that zone with other people). Duos and Squads are slightly different in that it solves the problem of matchups for the most part due to having somebody else to cover your weakness, but it has many other problems, and also amplifies potential disasterous rng spawn points by making a member of your team be crippled right from the beginning of the game. Cheating in the form of teaming up with people in solos etc. is also quite a big problem. Some players who have been reported both in game and by videos being sent directly to the GM's through discord, are still playing the game every day, despite having over a hundred ranked games played where they were with each other in every single game and always died together when they died. Overall, it's a fun game, and I enjoyed it greatly, as should be obvious from my playtime, but the game has some serious flaws, both in gameplay and in the developers, which means I cannot recommend it despite my enjoyment.Show moreShow less

The 1.0 launch of this game has severely disappointed me. For starters they removed solos mode because of some "investors" that were convinced squads was the way to go, squads is arguably the worst game mode out of the three. Imagine having to micromanage two people on your team who might not even have the slightest clue on what they are doing. Why would you remove the game mode that let people figure out how the game works on the own instead of one where you have to rely on either carrying your team or being carried. 0/10 Will reinstall when solos/duos are back.Show moreShow less

My friends and I have submitted tickets in with suggestions and they actually listened to our ideas and have changed some things like adding paper and changing some gameplay issues. This is such a great thing for a beta game as they change to the audience. Gameplay / Difficulty The game can be hard to get into definitely which might steer you away from the game but put some time into it and you'll find yourself having fun. If you're a micro / macro fan then this game has a lot of that, you can have multiple builds for a character that you choose from and you path in game to get items for your build. There's tons of items and path choices you can choose from that you can experiment and try new builds. Also in game, there's things such as consoles, bushes, all that so positioning is important. There's also tons of tiny things like food, animal drops and timers, Wickeline, traps, switching gear, mastery exp. As of right now, they are currently releasing new characters every 2 weeks or so, so you'll always have some new variety to play with and experiment with. Currently in NA, the ranked queue takes years to find games unless there's an event going on for it. Tips & Tricks ❖ When playing squads, try and find routes that line up with your teammates by zone 3 atleast. ❖ In any mode, find plans that get your weapon by zone 2, zone 3 is acceptable. ❖ Find some food that aligns with your path (like alley you can make hot ramen / garlic ramen) ❖ Don't try and fight early unless you have your weapon and they don't or you have an item advantage. Fighting early isn't always bad but it wastes so much time in getting efficient routes ❖ Improve routes (find items that are similar in your path so you can move to the next area, some areas are nearby that might have the same items so if you don't find your item, you can go there and get it) Great with Friends The game can be really annoying and frustrating especially in solos. Griefers, more people that kill you, paths and items being taken in your path, etc. In Squads and Duos, there's some leeways like being knocked down, having 1 or 2 more teammates to revive you, teammates can get items for you, more safety, just everything feels better. I've had so many times where some areas are looted dry and other areas around it are dry as well and it feels so bad. But by being in duos or squads, you can have the safety of your teammates especially if you align your paths. you can most likely kill anyone to get their items. Personal Review / Opinion The game doesn't get "too boring doing the same routes, over and over again." Adaptability in knowing where items are found in other zones is a huge part of counterplay in this game. To me, this game feels like a real-time card game where you "deckbuild" your route with efficient pathing then when in-game you execute your deck, playing around and knowing your opponents' (meta) routes (or decks). To me, thinking,"Oh, my build fails mid-game because it 4-item spikes in zone 4. I should adjust my starting position," is the same feeling as thinking, "My deck fails mid-game because my mana curve is too stacked in the 5 mana area making my early curve suffer. I think I'll adjust it after this match." People will not want to invest the time in learning a new character due to the same routes. There's such a thing as mastery and the drive to improve or min/max. While I believe this game is not casual-friendly, the game strives in having a high mastery cap for a single character. I can play a character for a hundred games straight and still think to myself after the game that I could improve some parts of my route or my build. Just my two cents. This game challenges your item management and mastery of your limited inventory slots, this in term is like a "deck size." Do you want to pick up more lighters in your area for food later on, or does your build take too many components early. Maybe you'll grab that component in the next zone so you can make a bunch of surveillance cameras here. It's a series of affordances you constantly have to play around with. The game's balanced around item power in relation to route efficiency. Maybe your build is super greedy and spikes at the third route with four or five gemstones. You should adjust the build to take less contested items or know alternative routes.Show moreShow less
I really want to love this game. I play it everyday and will continue to do so for a bit, but the strain it puts you through requires some kind of masochistic tendencies, which apparently I possess. The core gameplay and the mechanics are extremely enjoyable. The game runs well. It is generous in its distribution of currency so you can gain access to the characters that you want to play. It has a practice mode where you can play and try whoever you want before purchasing. The cosmetics, the map, the events are all incredibly generous for a Free To Play game. The characters and the balance of the game is actually pretty good, and the top characters generally switch out almost on a daily basis due to how well you can play. Although there are certainly some characters that are stronger than others. The core and foundation of Eternal Return are so freaking good for a smaller company. However, the biggest and most disappointing thing about this game, and why I, despite really enjoying it, am not recommending it is due to its absolutely awful matchmaking. I am simply trying to learn and get better, but often times the lobby I am put in has, quite literally, the best players in my region that proceed to, as expected, annihilate the entire game. Often times, the response to this would be, "But you're learning how to play better" or "Get good" or whatever. I'm no stranger to failure having played the Dark Souls/Bloodborne series nor am I new to the MOBA genre having played way too much League, Dota2 and HoTS. Now, the frustration and quite frankly, disheartening learning curve would not be so bad if the population of the game was anywhere viable, but it is not. And due to no/poor marketing, the que times for a normal game take about 5 - 20+ minutes. Hell, even 30+ minute ques are often the case. You can see why then the lobby you finally get into, would be frustrating, as you sit and wait for about 15 minutes, only to play for about 4 minutes because you encounter, literally the 7th best player in NA right now or something along those lines. This process happens. A lot. To the point that this is often the norm, not the outlier. Like I said, this learning curve wouldn't be as frustrating if I wasn't waiting for extended periods just to die. It's not fun for most people. And it's killing the game. Because if you don't float, you sink. And people would rather leave and go play something more enjoyable than sink. There is no "Matchmaking" system put into place for the normal game modes. There is however, matchmaking for ranked, but ranked is only active during very specific times, and if you are at work, at school or can't make it that time, well, you're out of luck because then you will sit in the ranked que, for literally 3+ HOURS without finding a fair Ranked game. So if you want to play, tough luck, you have to go into normals where you have a very high chance of encountering 1 - 3+ players in the region who will, let's be honest, curbstomp you because it is more akin to playing against bots due to how new some people are. This is the state of the current game. It is entirely disappointing because what keeps me playing is how much I absolutely enjoy its core foundations and gameplay. The GAME in itself, is very very good. It is gorgeous, it is interesting, fun to understand and plan out builds. When you get a fair lobby and the matchmaking WORKS, it feels like you're playing the game. It feels like you learn, even if you place very low because you understood what you did wrong. All of that is incredible and Eternal Return knocks it out of the park. But unfortunately, that is just not the case 90% of the time. You will get killed in 3 minutes, after waiting 15 minutes for a game, without understanding what's going on or what you did wrong, simply because the person that killed you is just, so much better than you, that you have no idea what you did wrong or how you could improve. It's like matching a professional Chess Player, like Magnus Carlson, one of the best players in the world to someone who's only played one or two games and then asking the new player, "Are you having fun? Are you learning? See how you could improve?" Except Magnus Carlson would probably take the time to try and talk to you. Eternal Return just ♥♥♥♥♥ you and leaves you feeling ♥♥♥♥ about yourself. I guess I'm a masochist. Thanks Riot.Show moreShow less
