Absolutely unacceptable that Denuvo DRM requires me to be online to play a game I already purchased and that I already run multiple times and that I find this only in the airplane without any kind of connection. They should never block me from play my game offline, never.Show moreShow less

Denuvo locked me out on my Linux machine. The game wasn't starting, so I tried a few proton versions before it locked me out. Why do they keep putting this crap in their games.Show moreShow less
The GOAT of the TRPG genre for many and one of my favorite games of all time. I've played War of the Lions and the original PS1 version as well. This version was a little controversial within the FFT community due to the removal of the added content from the War of the Lions version. The Good: +Voice acting is a tremendous addition to giving the narrative more life. The story was already considered one of the best of all time, but the voice acting takes it to another level. +Extra dialogue from party members makes the story a lot more cohesive. The weirdest part of the script from the older games was the fact that all characters added to your party essentially became silent, meaning you never really got to see characters like Agrias, Mustadio, Orlandeau, Meliadoul, contribute to the dialogue after recruiting them. The number of these additional lines isn't super crazy, but this is still one of the best changes in this version. +UI changes are generally good. Main one that I don't like as much is the removal of the Job Wheel, but this has essentially no impact on gameplay. +QoL/changes are welcomed: Being able to skip random encounters or force them at will, autosaving in the middle of fights to go back a few turns, being able to retry battles easily, leaving multi-stage battles. +Tactician Mode and Class Updates: I'm on the fence about these, as I like that they tried to implement these but the execution was a a bit off. The Bad: -Removal of War of The Lions content did infact hurt the game slightly. It's certainly a weird design choice given that War of The Lions was essentially a straight upgrade to the game in terms of content and all of those additions were removed. Many people complained about the removal of Dark Knight and Balthier, but I think the removal of all the extra equipment such as Tylnar Rouge and the additional battles/scenes was a much bigger loss. -Class updates were very mild. They did not really revolutionize any of the classes and a lot of the problems with most classes still exist: Why is Samurai MA scaling on abilities but revolves around a weapon that uses PA but is a worse PA class than every other class in the game and does not even innately have 2-hand even though every other PA class has an innate of their equip skill? Why is Geomancer also a PA class with MA scaling abilities? Archer is still just a charge bot, though a bit faster. I didn't find that the class changes affected my opinion of them very much. -Tactician Mode is harder, but at the end of the day is just a straight "you do less a lot less damage and take a lot more damage" with an additional caveat of friendly fire basically one shots your allies a lot of the time after the midgame. I think this was a lost opportunity to revamp the campaign in a lot of ways; FFT's campaign always had relatively minimal enemy variety compared to the classes available. You fight so many knights, archers, and black mages and it would have been a good chance to incorporate new classes into some of the campaign fights. Overall, it did an OK job of making the game not as much of an easy sweep in the later stages, but most of the strong strategies from before will still be strong, just with a few extra turns needed. This difficulty mode made gun damage feel painfully weak pretty much the entire game. -Deluxe version is a bit of a blueball. They added a cosmetic option as well as new items. But then the game itself offers no other cosmetic options or new items besides what is in the deluxe version (and those are ultimately inconsequential). It kinda goes against the philosophy of the devs saying they wanted this version to be true to the original PS1 version and therefore removed the additional content from WoTL. So new stuff is okay if they can add it as a microtransaction bundle, but no other new things? -It's a steep price tag for what is essentially a 27-year-old game that has less content than the version released 17 years ago. As much as I enjoyed the upsides of this version, I can't really find a good reason why this version needed to be released this way and for this price tag. In summary, I think anyone who likes TRPGs or great stories and hasn't played FFT before should definitely try this version at some point. For FFT veterans, the voice acting and additional dialogue will be nice, but you will lament the loss of WoTL content and Tactician mode will likely just be OK.Show moreShow less
Game of my life, but they added DENUVO, which is something simply disgusting. They should be real humans and remove this garbage. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgusting.Show moreShow less
well. this game is one that i still own the disc for (and it still works) and i've made a digital copy of my disc years ago so i could keep playing even after the disc turns to garbage. its a really good game, guys. it is the most infuriating, yet satisfying game you can play. if you want the 'difficulty' from 1998, you have to play on tactician mode. and be prepared to lose. going into some battles, you don't know the enemy team composition or various problems that will arise, so save before you go in, or you'll regret it. you're going to need to spend time grinding and powercreeping your characters to advance sometimes, and you're going to need to reload a few saves. i believe death is permanent for non special characters. so keep that in mind. square made it really accessible with an 'easy' mode that even removes weapons from some enemies for insurance, but .. its still not 'face roll easy', as some things such as inexperience, cannot be mitigated.. there is an insane (rabid) modding community for this, as we are long time cultists for this game. so expect some amazing stuff coming soon. i think this iteration did a wonderful job, they blew the budget on the english voice actors, and stayed true to the original game (despite patching a few of my favorite exploits). there is a push for restoring older translations, and some ui changes - so please expect these in future mod releases! and if you're sad there isn't a turbo difficulty, dont worry, i'm going to cook up a class randomizer, and a 'no crossclass' restriction mod to help turn things up to 11. i know some others are planning some horrible difficulty stuff for you as well, so , dont be sad. just be patient. enjoy the updated graphics, and original sound and music tracks, updated textures, and ultra smooth framerates in this updated, and fantastic iteration of one of the finest defining turn based strategy games of this genre.Show moreShow less
Final Fantasy Tactics is the best game ever made. I played the hell out of the original when I was younger, and played War of the Lions when it came out on Android. The gameplay is so much fun and the story is amazing and somehow, sadly, more relatable today. But I just cannot recommend this version, much as it pains me. Not for full price. The game looks nice, the voice acting is great, the UI improvements are decent, and I appreciate the ability to ignore/trigger random encounters. As far as cosmetic and quality-of-life changes go, they are really good; but those do not matter as much to me as content. Content-wise, this doesn't really bring anything new to the table. In fact, it takes things off the table since they made the bizarre choice to remove the content added in War of the Lions. It's a faithful recreation of the '97 version, but a little _too_ faithful in my opinion. The cut WotL content overshadows the QoL improvements. If it were <$20, I'd recommend it, but for this price, no.Show moreShow less
so ive played both the Ps1 version of FFT and the PSP version. while im disappointed that we dont have alot of the added things from WOFL, such as the dark knight class, this is a beautiful recreation of an already beautiful game. the voice acting while sometimes a little wonky, is a welcome addition. i do miss some of the old visual effects, like the old rotating class screen, but all in all this is a damn good rework worth checking out. your just as beautiful as the day i lost you. (which i didnt cus the OG version is siting in my ps3)Show moreShow less
FFT is my favorite game of all time. I have put an uncountable amount of hours into this game, and have bought it for every system it has been on. This remaster is worth it at $20-30. Full price is not worth it. I really wish steam would let us do a "meh" or neutral review. In the future, for my random play through I will most likely go back to a modded previous version. This is probably the best way for someone to get the story and back ground information. For everything else, it is worse. The Good: Finally on PC Script is probably the best FFT translation we have ever had Additional story stuff is great Speed up is good to have (Should be a toggle) Some of the VAs do amazing work and it really adds to the game Can ignore random battles The poaching office just functions better Turn order on side of the battle is great. Wish it was more navigatable while selecting skills. The Bad: The controls are a down grade. Both in and out of battle. Makes navigating and looking at everything significantly harder. Original game looking at the battlefield and enemy stats is a button press. Here you jump through menus. Does not let you change or modify them. Speed up is not toggle-able, spent most of the game holding down R1. Removed all the end-game stuff added in WotL/Mobile version, effectively removing any point of grinding or continuing past the story. The mobile showed they could do single player additional content, but chose to remove it here. "Tactician mode" is just a damage modifier. It doesnt make it harder, it makes glass cannon builds less viable. Immortal/Tank builds just dominate more. Enemy/Guest AI feels like it has changed for the worse? While it was neat seeing enemies doing different things, outside of very specific situations they seemed to make worse decisions. The Summoners in particular didnt summon in my play through, they focused on doing everything but, despite the fact I was doing a high-faith magic build this run through and they would have done a ton of damage. The final battle was the only fight I felt was harder, but at that point it really doesnt matter. The tutorials are beyond excessive. It went from whatever to aggravating extremely quickly. Literally everything has a tutorial. Most notable going to inventory and getting "This is your inventory," The Ugly: The sprites are a down grade from the mobile version. Just straight up worse. No details, weird smoothing. the best complement you can give a remaster is "this looks just like I remember." This does not hit that. A lot of the scenery lighting does nothing to help show off the work that was done and makes a lot of the scenes a lot less memorable. Instead of having a room people are acting in you have a small section that is highlighted and rest faded away. It makes a lot of the scenes seem smaller and gives the impression they are trying to hide the scenery. You can turn this off, but the "focus" setting that is turned on by default is horrible. It takes the already low detail sprites and makes them worse. Its especially bad in cut scenes as the camera and focus jumps around forcing any lingering gaze to be stuck on unfocused blurry sprites. A lot of things do look better. The treasures, the locations you can find, everything in the "chronicles" Everything in engine looks underwhelming, and not what I would expect. The content the DID add is paid for items. The only notable ones are Sprite changes for Ramza only, and a ring that gives you Gained JP Up. Making the only changes to the game locked behind spending more money is distasteful.Show moreShow less
