[DISCLAIMER: So I actually WANT to give this game a positive review, but I'm giving it a negative review because I'm hoping the devs will read this and take the feedback into consideration. I'll be happy to change this review once the issues mentioned are addressed.] I had a lot of fun playing it with some friends for a few hours, and it has a lot of potential to be a really great alternative if you're getting bored of Phasmo. However at the moment the game still definitely feels like it's in early access, and there are a few pretty big issues I hope the devs address in near future updates: - The game needs a proper tutorial. Some of the puzzles, like the levers, are extremely difficult to figure out and provide no feedback or way to determine what exactly they do. You're effectively left flipping things at random and hoping something happens. I'm pretty sure the hieroglyphs on the side have something to do with it but it's all very badly explained. - Depending on how the level and mummy randomly generate, you effectively *need* certain items to make much progress in either getting gold or figuring out how to get into the tomb. However most of these items require quite a lot of gold to buy, and it's very difficult to get that gold until you have them. You also don't get a lot of gold per round even when you are able to find some. Basically you have to just suck out long enough as a newbie until you scrape together enough gold to buy anything useful. This system definitely needs some rebalancing to make progress a bit faster for brand new players. - As others have stated, the fact that you don't get *anything* if you die is a major ballache. Especially given how easy it is to die in this game compared to Phasmo, you'll have a lot of rounds where you just make zero progress at all. Like I said, the game is definitely still in early access and there's a lot of room for improvement. I think if the devs fix these issues and continue adding more content, they'll have a real winner on their hands. Until then you might still have some fun playing it, but it's going to come more from messing around with your friends than actually making much progress in the game.Show moreShow less
Pros and cons are down below) If this review will be useful to you, don't foget to drop a like so it would be useful to other ppl as well) Feel free to check out the gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQCouHVT3qI + The game is scary! You get to deal with "ghost" type of mejai that spooks the heck out of you at least at the start and then it becomes physical and attacks you. I love it! + There's so much more to do than Mejai type detecting (comparing to phasmo). It really does feel like ruin exploration and tomb raiding adventure. The Mejai type detecting is just a tool to help you deal with the physical form of Mejai, not the main objective like in Phasmo. + You have pretty interesting tools that you don't lose upon dying but in order to get them you have to play a lot to get enough gold to unlock or upgrade them. + There are very cool coop mechanics like helping your friends after death or turning on them and trying to kill them. Makes it interesting for you even if you were an unfortunate one to perish first. + The Egyptian theme of the game is very cool! - The early game could be pretty difficult since you don't really have equipment to detect the Mejai type and you'll probably die a lot to Mejai and just traps. So you'd have to grind a bit for gold to start the fun part of the game. I honestly can't find more disadvantages, the game wasn't even buggy for me. It's just so much fun! Overall: It's like Phasmophobia but a lot better since there's something to do apart from ghost (or Mejai) type detecting. I'd rate it a solid 9 mummies / 10. It's very good, surprisingly good for early access so feel confident buying it and trying it out! This game is full of good ideas and I'm going to hold onto it to see where it goes. Egyptian themed tomb delving is a perfect setting for this genre, and they have some nicely creepy ideas and good QoL improvements over other games. The ability to keep participating in the game after you die is one of the high points (the whole afterlife sequence is very cool, if stretched out too long). But it needs a lot of love before it's a good game, not in terms of expanding features or anything but in terms of solidifying the fundamentals. Setting aside the magnitude of sheer jank, the maps end up feeling like everywhere is the same (which defeats the purpose of them being procedural) and the supernatural occurrences are dialed up so high they quickly cheapen their significance. The interface is pretty clunky, interacting with objects is clunky. Happy to revisit later on because it's a really cool starting point but the bones (so to speak) aren't really there yet.Show moreShow less
Do you like Phasmophobia? Then you'll like this. Literally the same objective and setup, with a couple added twists and tweaks to make it not Phasmophobia. Not better, just different enough and about as good. So in Phasmophobia you select what ghost type you're dealing with and leave. In this game you select what curse/mummy type you're dealing with and-- depending on whether you guess right or not-- you are either rewarded or punished. In Phasmophobia when you die you get to watch your friends and maybe help them by throwing objects. In this game you get to come back either as a good or bad mummy, and your voice is charmingly distorted and warbled as you try to communicate with your friends-- but stay away from their torches lest you burn up and die (a second time, this time for good/you are restricted to spectating). In Phasmophobia you have multiple different maps and locations to visit. In this game you pretty much are always exploring a tomb of some sort, and to be honest, they all look kind of the same. Yes the maps are different-ish, but they all have the same kind of tile system that you don't see anything all that much new from the next map. This game has a better reward system and better character modifications. Also the sound/proxy chat is terrific. I LOVE that our voices echoed around the tomb, and carried more realistically than Phas. It's a good companion piece to Phasmophobia if you and your friends are looking for more of the same. My only three complaints are: 1. I wish the locations varied in appearance a little more than just sandstone-- they kind of painted themselves into a corner on that. 2 and 3 are both ones I have for Phasmophobia as well: when you're dead/spectating, you should just get to fly around/move a bit faster, or just snap me to a live player. And more rewards for endgame missions other than currency. Like make us earn hats or have us do challenges.Show moreShow less
I would vote yes a few updates ago, but recent updates have tanked replayability of this game for my friends and I. We use to enjoy doing round after round after round, but it's just way too slow now. There is now a cutscene when you grab the relic, when you light the lower chamber torches, and when you finally banish the mejai after the slowest "boss fight" which is by far the easiest part of the round. It's cool the first time, but it loses its appeal really fast. We were excited to do the halloween challenge and weekly challenge, but actually finishing a single round killed that desire. I would change this review if the game pacing gets fixed, but right now we just can't stand to play it despite how much we enjoy the concept itself. UPDATE: It's not any better. Actually, so much worse with that stupid elevator mapShow moreShow less
