Gameplay kind of goes like this. You start the game. You grab a rifle and 15 clips of ammo. You die before you ever make it to the front. You respawn, This time you grab a rifle and 2 clips of ammo. On your travels to the front you pass through a small town. You make it to a bridge but die shortly after. You managed to hit an enemy! You respawn, You die on respawn from artillery. You respawn for the 500th time, You are leading a suicidal charge on enemy fortifications, full well knowing you are leading good men to their deaths You respawn for the 5000th time, Numb to the shelling, you hold position while the enemy charges forward. You know supplies are low and every shot counts. Picking up dropped supplies and assisting where possible. You have built the very fortifications around you that are now your home. The village you were defending is destroyed. You find 15 clips of ammo and die wondering who would possibly think that was a good idea. You respawn x100,000 time You now are leading a regiment in a conquest of a region. Tanks are rolling in from your Logistic divisions. Heavy shelling obliterates your friends out of their trenches. Good soldiers are dying while you support an armor push. Extended use of chemical weapons and fire have destroyed the landscape but you push on with the armor. You hear thunder. The very ground collapses under you. A storm cannon has vaporized you. You respawn for the 100,001 time The Armor push was a success, you finally walk over the bridge, victorious, before dying from cold weather.Show moreShow less
Honestly I would recommend this game to everyone. It is very fun. You can switch your play style however you like. You wanna have more chill gameplay? Do backline logistics - mine resources, build facilities with your friends, produce everything from bullets and weapons to tank. You wanna have a bit more thrill? Do frontline logistic - haul produced goods from the backline to the frontline, look which regions is running low on what, check for partisans on your route and weigh your option between the faster or the more secure routes and get celebrated as you bring in the much needed ammo, medical suplies and materials to fix tanks and buildings. You wanna have action and kill wardens... I mean enemies? Go to the frontlines, fight in the trenches, kill enemy tanks, or man your own tank with friends or random players. You wanna have even more thrill? Be a partisan - sneak into enemy territory, disrupt their logistics, destroy equipment before it even reaches the frontline, destroy whole production facilities or just sabotage them sneakily and have the enemy look for hours why their production isn't running, because you destroyed one of their power lines. Now you are wondering: "That sounds like a fun game for everyone - solo players, coop with friends, coop with strangers. Why the negative review?" Well, let me tell you about alts and cheaters. First the obvious - there are cheaters out there, which simply circumvent mechanics like limited sight at night, which conveniently lag every time you shoot at them or which are able to fly over or run through structures. And then there are alts - players who have a second account on the enemy side and use it to grief, spy, give equipment to their side, screw with your fabrication, block logistics by putting stuff in the way or disable your massive defences by parking trucks in front of your automatic guns. Let me paint a scenario: You have built a small facility with your friends, gathered resources over multiple days, traded with other groups to finally build a big battle tank. What could go wrong? Alts taking your resources along every step of the way and just load it into a truck and driving it into a river or into the frontlines. You would have been okay if the occasional player uses your buildings to refines their resources or even take a bit for their own needs, but now you have to make private stockpiles, lock everything away and start guarding and shooting at your own ppl, because they could be griefers, but often you just kill a curious new player who was exploring. You dealt with griefers, so what else can hinder you building the beauty of a battle tank and having fun with your friends killing some wardens... I mean enemies? Well, innocent looking player from your faction with binoculars look at your facility and stalk out where you store your resources, where your important production buildings are, act as if they are newbies and look exactly at how much stuff you have in your stockpiles. And a few minutes later a single partisan or a group of them sneak along the borders a few hexes into the backlines and make a bee line to your stockpile, destroy it and leave. So now you build start building defences - place pill boxes that shoot at enemies, build trenches and bunkers, haul tons of resources just for building them and pay their upkeep and shoo away and shoot at every player that comes even near your facility. Just so you can be finally save and have you facility survive just the last few hours until the battle tank rolls from your assembly pad.. and finally you are done. You see the majestic curves, the smell of fresh oil - there it is. Now you just need to call your friends back from mining resources, put ammo and fuel into it and drive it to the front. As you do suddenly you notice a hauler parked right in front of your defence. You wrench it open to check which newbie parked it in the most inconvenient place ever and drive it a bit further down the road. But as you enter the truck you hear explosions coming from your facility, you run back and you see a single partisan, which ignored all the overfilled stockpiles and important production buildings and went straight to where your tank was waiting for it's first action since its birth. And you only see a smoking husk, which just despawns as you arrive. The partisan is quickly dealt with and you can still hear their spiteful laughter as you think about how you have to tell your friends that your weekend of driving you snazzy new battle tank was ruined by a single person with 2 accounts. Your friends and you are now close to rage-quitting the game, but you decide to give it another try, you schedule your vacation time, use another week to gather the resources and are organising guard shifts among yourselves and finally you are sitting sleep deprived, but happy on your way to the front in your new battle tank "Betty II". You dodge the conveniently abandoned cars on the road, the 3 ambushes which totally random pop up exactly where you are driving, despite you first driving on smaller not often used roads and then even completely off-road over the ripening fields of corn, seeing the raging farmer in front of your inner eye. You arrive at the front, talk to other tank crews, are celebrated as the reinforcements everyone was waiting for, form a tank line, barely survives the enemy infantry concentrating their hail of AT-RPGs and anti tank grenades on you and there it is. The sound every tank driver dreads... the ringing of the bell of a bicycle and just as you are pulling back to fix the holes in your formerly pristine battle tank, they park behind you and for some reason a single bike is even sturdier than a reinforced wall... No screaming and cursing at the lowly Private on his bike helps, the enemy pushes forward despite it being dusk and you, your friends and Betty II the battle tank explode, sucking in their last bit of fresh air - ultimately killed by a bicycle. So now you find yourself typing an angry report of this player and his bike. Looking if you have any message about the reports of the previous 10 accounts of alts over the last 2 weeks. Looking through the forums to see dozens if not hundreds of stories similar to your own. And you decide enough is enough. You edit your previous positive steam review from an enthusiastic report about the helpful community and the many-faceted gameplay options to a report of your heart-crushing futile fight against players, who don't play by the rules and devs who don't seem to care, because every alt is just another sold copy of their game... and you leave defeated looking for a game without pvp, because human scum always find a way to kill the fun for everyone.Show moreShow less
Never felt more alive. Literally gave a medical training to a noob while under constand LMG fire and an ongoing artillery barrage. Later that day he saved lives like a pro. Proud of him.Show moreShow less
I played roughly 100 hours in three weeks after purchasing it. The game is really absorbing and likely the best earlyaccess game i've ever seen. However there's a lot of issues which refrain me from recommending this. As of now, i spend more time on the menu than the game itself. The community, once good, turned into a mess of self-entitled children belonging to one or more of the massive clans, which ran this game into the ground. Due to not being a balancing system, servers usually look like: Server1: 70 Warden vs 30 Colonial. Server2: 5 Warden vs 20 Colonial . Server3+: <10people. Clans like "82dk" are the main culprits of ruining game balance. I can't count the amount of times i've been playing a proper 20v20 game, and suddenly some blob clan enters the game, turns it into a 60v20, completely destroying any fun in the game, then hop onto the next server, repeat. They are very well known to use exploits in order to be unkillable, gain more precise shots, grief with the enemy supplies via joining the opposite team, or other unjust advantages. Moderators (With the power to ban) are chosen from among the playerbase, which obviously causes the main clan players to never be banned no matter what they do, as a moderator will vouch for them. This all caused the game pop to drop from 5000 to ~200. And since the devs/mods clearly aren't going to adress these issues (rather adding more content to the game, which isn't bad, but not as important as solving gamebreaking issues), i can see this game being played by less than a hundred players , with most of the servers ending up like 30vs0 , people getting bored and leaving. Edit: As expected, there was massive backlash from the community for posting this, being even more toxic. Mods literally telling me to kill myself. DO NOT get this game at all! Edit2: Wow, this exploded. Glad to see so many people listening to my counsel. In all honesty, i must admit i also got certainly fired up during that last talk with the moderators, but that was due to them getting me kicked/banned without proof as some sort of "revenge" against my person, whereas in the other hand you'd expect mods to be professional at all times, explaining stuff (rather than going "no u"). It really, really saddens me to see such a promising game being ruined by the aforementioned issues. Will maybe check it again in a few months, if it's not dead by then, and will let you know. Edit3: As of 1st of December, i tried to go back to the game and see how it's developing. I instantly see these scenes related to the Mod Abuse issue i was talking earlier (For those people that keep asking for "proof") from the same day, with several different people : 1- https://i.imgur.com/NKAjCxV.png 2- https://i.imgur.com/bJrqG2g.png Note that neither of the people is me, so this Mod Abuse isn't just to my person but to many others. Also, example of how the servers are horrifyingly unbalanced: https://i.imgur.com/H1btfS8.png On the bright side, i talked personally to one dev, and managed to calmly expose the issues the game has, the reason that led me to this review, and gave him a few tips about what i'd personally do to drive the game forward. I'll keep you informed in the coming days. Edit4: So i've been playing a bit these last days. Servers were hit and miss : most of them unbalanced and/or empty, but some OK. Got into two servers : In one, full of toxic players wishing cancer to each other. Fleed immediately to another which was balanced and had a great time with a group of players. Faith restored? Not so much. After checking the official discord (Because guess what? they don't have a report player system. They have a third party voice/textchat to report people where everyone can simply spam and blame each other), i saw something absurd: *One of the most toxic players at the time i posted this review originally is now a mod*. Had only to scroll up one hour in the chat (roughly 20-or-so messages) to confirm he was effectively keeping on with the same behaviour, except now abusing his new modpowers. Two players quarrel. One of them a member of 82DK, the exploiter clan i talked about before. The other, a complete random. They start teamkilling each other (bannable offense) and the 82dk player starts insulting pretty much everyone on the channel. This corrupt mod jumps in and bans the other player, and does not even warn the 82DK about this kind of behaviour. Proof: https://imgur.com/ijxWYlX Names censored as usual for privacy, but i'm not against naming-and-calling such people from now on. This does simply prove my point: it is a good game, you can have fun with some people... but the community is just as toxic as it can get, mod corruption runs rampant and devs do nothing to stop it. Edit 5 (28 april 2020) : Well, almost three years later, i'm glad this review helped the many thousands of people who comment, like, or even directly message me about it. Sorry that i no longer answer people here. I just don't feel the need to, as i have put the game aside since two years ago. I'm aware some things have changed, while many others remain the same. At this point, i will simply leave the review here as proof of what happened throughout the game's development timeline, and i encourage you to read the comments and make your own decision. _____ PS: Please don't be toxic on the comments. I'm seeing some people (You know who you are) that keep bashing me and others that expose how the community has gotten worse. You make yourself (and your whole community) look bad, so please refrain from insulting comments from now on. Thanks!Show moreShow less
some people called me crazy for farming scraps for hours, in one of our Scrap yards. But they did not expect, to keep gettin tons of supplies. Every time they saw me still mining the scrap, they try to tell me to stop mining, but i always said we can never get enough of scrap. after of hours of mining, and more scraps to the logistic. Then suddenly some from the logistic squad, told me to follow them in one of they trucks. They showed me what they have build from the scraps, that i have delivered to them. They showed me a base full of foxe holes, Pilboxes, and many more. They said to me, ''because of you we could make this outpost, because of you we could keep pushing the enemies, with out worrying about supplies'' they told tales about me in the front, about a crazy guy in the scrap yard. They called it the Reds Scrap yard, while they even added a order that shows where it was, it was not much but soon most of my team knew who i was. They keep visiting, me Commending. I told them not do it, i just did this to help our team, one of them said in chat. ''Not all heroes wear capes'' But i said to him, ''not all heroes are sane'' because i mined in that spot for almost 8 hours.Show moreShow less
I was banned from the game. I reached out to have it appealed and they refused. The reason? I tried to stop cheaters on my own faction from driving resources to the enemies side. The resources lost were the kind that took players hours or a day of grinding to build. The cheaters worked in a group and thus convinced my team mates I was a cheater and was mass reported. I did this all without harming a single "friendly" and stored them in a near by warehouse where my actions were documented on the warehouse submission logs. It didn't matter I still got banned. Not temporarily suspended. Just banned. This was a fun game for me. I taught a lot of new players and made some cool experiences. But take my warning to heart when I say don't openly fight cheaters and don't argue with clan members with a fragile ego who like to use their limited report tickets to mess with people. Just report and ignore and hopefully something good happens. Until the devs realize the reporting method is being used to grief I'm afraid this will be a permanent issue.Show moreShow less
When I was originally deployed, I spent my first day gathering scrap in Meta for our brothers fighting down South. Spent three hours, nonstop just gathering scrap and materials, giving it to people who would deliver it to the battlefront. Upon arriving back at Meta the following morning, a truck pulled up to my scrap heap. Telling me that men were needed on the front line, I loaded into the truck with a gun and rode to the battlefront. It was a three minute ride, so the boys and I were talking amongst ourselves. It was all our first time going into combat, we were excited to see it first hand. Then we arrived. We were pinned down at Husk, enemies were advancing over the bridge and we were being mowed down like flies. I had a medic kit and was doing my best to keep people alive, but you can't save everyone. Mortars were blasting our position, and after forty-five minutes I thought we were going to be overrun. Just as this thought crosses my mind, a half-track blows past me with the gunner screaming for men to follow the vehicle. We pushed halfway across the bridge, further than we had been all morning. The half track kept pushing, but was blown to hell after an RPG hit it. The enemies ended up blowing the bridge behind my squad, there were ten of us. We had to hold the line until that was rebuilt, which would allow for reinforcements to let us make it across the rest of the bridge. Then there were only three left beside me. I watched six men get murdered, friends I'd grown attached to during this hours long battle. I was on a machine gun, and I fired and fired and fired at any enemies I could see. Screaming at them. The four of us, held the line for fifteen whole minutes before reinforcements arrived. Once they did, we were able to take the bridge and advance onto the Jade Cove. This is just one of many stories I have in this game. If you want a persistent game, where every action you make matters to the war, buy this right away. This is the best purchase I've made in a while.Show moreShow less
the game its self is actually really good. HOWEVER there is one major flaw. The community. Imagine running around a game, minding your own business and having a good ol time. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere this guy comes up and starts telling you how to play your game. When you tell him no he shoots you. you report him of course. You respawn and he shoots you again. you respawn and he starts to kill you but you win. then his entire clan reports you and instantly you are banned for an hour. now imagine this same clan waits for you to come back and they mass report you and you are banned for a day. and then a week later they see you in game and you account gets perm suspended. Now imagine the petitions you have filed either get closed with no response or get ignored. you get banned from the games discord for asking for help for this and the company refuses to communicate with you. This is foxhole.Show moreShow less
As a gamer, I rather dislike MMOs. They're usually massive time-sinks where you have to rely on grinding your way through tasks for your own personal benefit. If you don't put in the time, then you suffer from being left behind or make little to no personal progress. Foxhole is different. Even if you spend just an hour or 2 in game, you can contribute to the greater good for the entire team. Just that small amount of time can make a huge impact, and help change the course of a battle. This was very true in my case. Before I purchased the game, I was watching a streamer on Twitch play the game for many hours. The team was struggling to make a breakthrough into a town and the side was getting pretty darn frustrated. Resources were not coming in fast enough to the outpost and everything was at a stalemate. This was my calling! I had to do something to improve the situation. So I told the Streamer (who I'd been engaging with in Twitch chat for those hours) I was purchasing the game and coming to join him. So that is exactly what I did. I arrive in game, and as I'd seen from the Stream, the place was chaos. A tank squad were screaming for tank shells. The resources were coming in, but no-one was assembling these shells for use.. I knew what I had to do... So I started assembling shell, after shell, after shell whilst the tank squad were out fighting with what they personally could gather to prevent the enemy pushing us back... Upon their next return they were shocked to find over 40 shells and a tonne of fuel I had personally assembled waiting for them. They commended me for my efforts and were quickly back on the frontline. After half an hour of arriving on the server, our side had made a breakthrough. The key to breaking the stalemate was the Tank Squad who had the resources to finally smash through the town, destroy defenses and allow the team's infantry to clear out the enemy. The tank squad and the whole side attributed this monumental victory in the war to my efforts. I was quickly given commendation after commendation which poured in from the higher ranked players on the server. I was suddenly a celebrity! Everywhere I went as I continued to collect supplies for shells, dropping weapons and ammo to the frontline was met with "Hey Saracen", "Fantastic job Saracen!"... followed by "Hey you're Saracen, you're the same guy from Twitch chat?! I saw what you done dude, awesome work!" 10/10 - Would Stream Snipe the opposition to help a Streamer, and change the course of the war again!Show moreShow less
I played this game for 39.5 hours, I can say that the game itself is good, but the community is toxic! Of course, this does not include all players... In this game, the big clans are griffing new players, and unfortunately, some moderators who have the power to ban, They are members of these clans, and most of them are not professional as expected... and it is clear that if you disagree with them or do not follow their wishes, they will report you and ban you easily. . I remember that once we built a tank with my friend and we wanted to play with the tank for the first time, it was very exciting and then suddenly some members of a big clan with a high rank stopped us and did not let us move. we asked the reason and then they told us with a contemptuous tone that you new players do not have the right to use the tank and you should leave this tank right here for and then my friend and I waited for a while so that they might leave, They attacked us with a Gas Grenade and killed us, and then wrote my name and my friend's name in the chat game and said to report these two noobs, they are trying to steal a tank, and unfortunately the rest of the players also listened to them and we were banned for a few hours. Thank you for taking the time to read this text :)Show moreShow less
