Pros -Incredibly cool concept -Very fancy Artstyle -Insanely fun with friends for a few hours Cons -"Skill Based Matchmaking" It just stretches out queue times and doesn't really work at the end cause you still get matched against players who No Life this game Online Play is unfair for new players Being new in this game means that you have to unlock new cards and that you have to level up new cards. This means that being matched against Lvl 100 players that No Life this game even though you use Skill Based Matchmaking almost always guarantees a lose, except if you manage to outaim them for a round. But pure aim won't get you fair. Pure movement won't get you far either, because there are too many cards that hinder your movements. For example Slowness with makes you walk unbearably slow or No Jump which lasts way too long. Cards are not balanced and/or bugged I've envountered countless bugs in the 10h I played this game. For example the Ka-Boomer Turret is straight up not shooting. Then there is just straight unbalanced stuff. For example if you use the no jump card, then it's almost always a guaranteed win, cause the enemy has no movement whatsoever. And then there is stuff where I'm not sure if it is unintend or if it's just straight up stupidity. For example if you combo the Nuke with Heartless. Your heart is then on the old map and you are literally unkillable for the duration of heartless. Very luck based progression system As I said earlier, it is very unfun for new players. That's because someone though it was a good idea to make the entire progression system in this game random. You don't own all the cards the game has to offer at the beginning, you have to get them later on. The only way to get these cards is by opening Packs which give you entirely random cards and the main way to get packs is by buying them with ingame currency. You get currency by playing games and you get way more by winning. But winning is hard at the beginning because you inevitebly have worse cards than your higher leveled opponents, which makes getting more cards harder. The Game feels unfinished Shooting and hitting feels weird very often. Shots that should have hit you don't hit you and shots that shouldn't hit you still hit you. I've had it happen to me multiple times that I killed my friend while I saw in his Discord Stream that he was long gone behind a wall. I know Brainwash Gang aren't the biggest Gaming Company, but the game feels like it's Early Access even though it's not. It kinda of needs a better net code, especially for a PvP-Shooter. (Sort of)Luck based Gameplay This point doesn't weigh as much as the other points, because this is just how this sort of game works and it's entirely up to preference. Wether you like these sort of luck based systems like most card games (Friends vs. Friends included) is obviously preference and there are many skill based aspects in FvF connected to the random cards system. You have to think about which cards you combo with each other, when you use cards in game and when you save them etc. But if there are cards that are crazy strong and you just don't get them ingame then that's just insanely annoying. Especially if it happens 3 games in a row. The Boomstick is a very strong close range weapon, arguably the best. If the enemy gets that 3 games in a row and you don't it's frustrating. Then if you finally get the Boomstick the enemy just resets your weapon to default or worse he swaps it. Yes, there is skill involved as I said. You still have to think wether to save or use a card. But if the enemy just gets all the good cards in his hand and you are stuck with the bad ones or get countered then it's frustrating. It will always be frustrating to feel like you don't have an influence in winning or losing. It is not fun to lose cause the enemy just happened to get insane card combos and it is not fun to win just because you managed to get Akimbo Boomstick or smth like that. Personally I like to have almost the entire outcome of the game in the players hands and not in the hands of some number generator. ---------------------------------------------------- TL;DR + The game has a really nice concept. + It's very fun with friends for a couple of hours. - It is unfair for new playerd due to an entirely random progression system. - It is unbalanced and bugged. - The game feels unfinished and unclean due to bad netcode. ---------------------------------------------------- Update So after this review got a lot of comments I now chose to address some of those. I will obviously ignore the "skill issue" comments and just address the comments with actual criticism. Xyler Foxpuffs said: "SBMM is optional though..." Yes, it is. But if I say a game has unbalanced matchmaking with SBMM, then it usually has even worse matchmaking if you turn SBMM off, no? Some people said something like: Shooting feels 'weird' cause it has Bullet Travel Time instead of Hitscan" Yes, it is true that the game has Bullet Travel Time, but that has nothing to do with my original argument. I literally stated that sometimes shots hit enemies behind walls and the other way around. I do know that Bullets need to travel and I did not complain about that part of the game. At the end I want to point out that the entire last section "(Sort of)Luck based Gameplay" is about preference. I did not say that this was an issue that made the game bad on itself, I just said that I don't prefere these type of games. Hence why I don't play card games. I said mutliple times that it takes skill to manage the card decks. My main complaint about luck was with the progression system.Show moreShow less

Gets game to play with 3 of my friends. While you can earn xp and cash in custom games. you cannot work towards daily goals/weekly goals once you unlock them. Which is very frustrating because playing against strangers online isn't very fun because everyone is very over leveled. So why keep people from doing xp quests in customs with friends? its not like I'm gonna get an unfair advantage, everyone online is already stomping on me with their over leveled cards. I know the Dev commented they added that you can earn quest progress while playing with friends. I guess he meant when you're playing with 1 friend in online matchmaking, which isnt my complaint. I just wanna experience the game with my closed group of friends.Show moreShow less

I wanna recommend this game to friends, the vibe, music, art style, everything is so fun. But fighting level 80's as a level 4 and getting wiped in under 30 seconds every game while waiting 10 minutes to find a match is not fun. Until theres skill based matchmaking or at the very least, level matchmaking, I cant recommend it.Show moreShow less
Edit: 1v1 game mode will now count towards quests with someone in your party, however private matches still appear to block quest progress. Great game, a ton of fun to play with friends, my only complaint is that quest progress is disabled when playing private matches and 1v1s against someone in your party, so people who just want to play with their friends are effectively punished with a slower rate of progression, which doesn't really fit the vibe of a game called friends vs friendsShow moreShow less
This review might be a bit wordy so I am going to highlight important parts in bold if you don't want to read it all. This game has a fun core but is held back by a lot of small problems. The devs have shown they are open to community feedback so I'll likely remove or revise this review if my gripes get changed or fix. My biggest problem with the game is the progression system. How it works is you get currency and exp by playing the game, way more if you win. Exp is used to unlock the playable characters with level up rewards along the way. For some reason, daily quests are locked behind being level 8, and weekly quests are locked behind level 15. What this means is that exp progression is painfully slow until level 8 where it then gets way faster. I think it took me ~8 hours to get to level 8 and only 3 more to get to 18. Winning one game gives ~1/7th a level and completing a daily gives ~1/2. Dailies/weeklies also often require you to win games which can be hard for reasons explained later. Edit 9/22/23: the progression has been changed and currency seems to be acquired 2x what is listed below. Currency, the other progression system of the game, is tied to a far more flawed system than exp. In Friends vs Friends you build decks of cards, which act like activated abilities in game. You do not start with all cards unlocked. You have to unlock them randomly through opening card packs. As aforementioned, you get more rewards for winning. This means it can take between 4-13 games to get one card pack depending on your skill. What's more is that card can be upgraded. So on top of cards taking forever to acquire, you also need to get the same card multiple times to upgrade it. This segues into what I think is the biggest travesty of the game. You get objectively better version of cards when they are (randomly) upgraded. It blows my mind this was ever thought to be a good thing to put in a PVP game. A player who plays more is usually going to be better as their skills are more honed from hours of practice. It feels like the devs could not figure out a way to incentivize players to play outside of having an extremely unnecessary progression model. The devs have repeatedly said they are against microtransactions and pay to win yet the game is play to win. They should have made skins/cosmetics rewards for playing, or even made them monetary such as a battlepass. Be like DoTA or Super Animal Royale where all gameplay aspects are unlocked right away while all meta progression is purely cosmetic. This makes it really hard to get friends in the game. Friends vs Friends becomes friends stomping friends. This game also has a problem with giving players information. Cards are not revealed to you until you unlock them or play against them. This means if an opponent plays a new card against you, you will not know what it is. The game flashes the card name and description up for 2 seconds before it disappears. You can pause to read it but that's not really something to be doing mid match. The card descriptions also do not completely convey what they do. Reading the card does not explain the card. Here is an example: in game description "Faster reflexes for awhile" actual effect: "For 8 seconds, increases your movement speed by 40%, reduces your weapons' spread by 30%, and increases your reload speed by 40%" This game reminds me when I played DoTA for the first time where I get hit with some yoinky sploink BS and instantly die in 0.4 seconds. But instead of having 70 seconds to read wtf happened while waiting to respawn, I have 5 seconds before the start of the next round. And finally, here are some other aspects that sully the experience from higher potential. -Some cards are so powerful, they can essentially turn rounds into instant wins. Most of these cards are higher rarity and completely off the table for new players. Update: there have been some balance patches but this still feels the case with certain cards -There are only 4 6 maps in the game, with one being horribly designed (especially trucks). Some characters feel way more powerful than others on certain maps and you can't change characters between maps. -Netcode is annoying at times. Getting shot sometimes teleports you a few inches to where you were moments ago. You can randomly fall out of the map and instantly die on trucks. -This game brings my GeForce 2060 SUPER to 100% GPU usage when set to 144 FPS and 30% on 72 FPS -There is no time limit on rounds -Spike is not real and I can not marry him. I will probably still play this game now and then and want to see it do well. I hope the devs can see the feedback and make the game live up to its potential. EDIT 7/17/23: level based matchmaking has been removed and replaced with skill based matchmaking, nice. EDIT 8/26/23: there is also now skill based matchmaking EDIT 9/22/23: there is now anti-cheatShow moreShow less

i really like this game, but there is basically no anticheat. once you get to higher levels, it's plagued with cheaters to the point of it being a common occurence. if any form of anticheat is added i do thumb up edit: netcode is very, very bad for a 1v1/2v2 gameShow moreShow less
