I have played this in 1998 when it came out on a voodoo2 12 MB it was ground breaking... a masterpiece, only if I could delete selected parts of my memory and replay this from zero would be great. Maybe one day :DShow moreShow less

I accidentally left the game open for like a week, I am not that devoted to the game, but it is good.Show moreShow less
Half-Life 1 was so revolutionary as a game when it first came out because of its unique method of storytelling entirely through Freeman's perspective and the gameplay involving a mix of shooting and puzzle-solving. As someone who recently played through Half-Life 2 and it's additional episodes, I was intrigued to see what made Half-Life 1 tick. Unfortunately, I feel as though HL1 is a product of its time and has aged incredibly poorly. I made it to Chapter 13: Forget About Freeman, which is just about 2/3 through the game before deciding to drop it with how dull and frustrating it got. Considering I've heard mixed things about the Xen chapters, I don't consider it worthwhile to continue. Now for the actual gameplay of the original Half-Life, I found it decent at best and a complete slog at worst. Surface Tension had snipers that I could not get passed because I had 0 grenades and couldn't find anymore. Blast Pit had me wandering every area of the chapter until I realized I had to jump in the hole where the tentacles where. On A Rail was the most boring level I've ever played in a video game, with the entire chapter being a simple tunnel. And Power Up had me stuck because I thought a gate was supposed to be destroyed to go further, but I actually had to head backwards to a fan that could kill me. The environments of Half-Life were awful, design-wise. As a positive note, I will say the AI of the enemies holds up to the modern-day. Half Life 1 was a masterpiece when it came out and defined the entire FPS genre, but now there are millions of better games because of it. I personally suggest skipping to Half-Life 2 because it offers a lot more content and is much more enjoyable. If you do have any interest in the first Half-Life, I recommend looking into Black Mesa, a fan-made remake that looks beyond beautiful.Show moreShow less
