Do you enjoy poor optimization? Rerecorded dialogue that sounds out of place compared to the original recordings? Characters having completely different personalities from the original? Sergeant Johnson chewing the scenery and breaking the fourth wall like he's in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Marvel slop movie? Enemy AI that is worse than the original game from 2001? Minimal feedback on being hit leading to what feels like unfair deaths? Being one shot by an overcharged plasma pistol like your name is Linda-058? What about bouncy vehicle physics for the Warthog and Scorpion Tank? Perhaps the three new prequel missions filled with Reddit tier dialogue and unfathomably stupid character moments is more your speed? If you answered yes to any of the above than Campaign Evolved has you covered! Consume the slop! Don't play the vastly superior original title that released in 2001. Definitely don't buy Master Chief Collection which regularly goes on sale for a fraction of the price of this game! 343 Industries I mean Halo Studios needs your support!Show moreShow less

The UE5 graphics leave much to be desired, not in the sense it's low fidelity, but more like the retro sci-fi inspired art style has been partially butchered and now it looks like every other UE5 game. Looks better than the anniversary version, but that was literally a rush job made by modders and contractors, so the bar was very low. Performance isn't perfect, but I wasn't having too many low fps moments. On the other hand though I was experiencing some noticeable input delay, and while not massively important since the game doesn't require super fast reactions, it still doesn't feel good to play with a delay of any kind. The game has bugs that weren't present in the original, which is just amazing. On Truth and Reconciliation I died from literally nothing like 10 different times, like legit just falling over. No local PvP or online multiplayer either, just Co-op. It's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ circus. And the point of "it being a good entry for newcomers" is completely bogus, because the MCC is right there, Halo CE is $10 maximum, and on sales you can get the entire collection for even cheaper than that. If somehow OG Halo CE is "too old" for new gamers, then idk man just stop playing games or never go outside of your modern gaming bubble. This game has no right to exist, it's just more 343 contractor sludge. No one working on this is going to be working on the next remake they might make, it's just a revolving door of misused talent at 343. Really a shame, if they actually had better direction and retained their employees, maybe the past 16 years of stewardship from 343/Halo Studios wouldn't be as contentious. [EDIT] The game still sold and has more positive reviews than negative, so I'm not understanding why people are so anal in the comments about my negative experience. Maybe stop hinging your personal enjoyment in life on the success of products, of which the quality is entirely out of your control. I promise my negative review isn't going to make your copy of the game explode your SSD, and if this short review could sway someone else's decision to purchase, they probably weren't going to buy it anyways.Show moreShow less
tldr; 6.7/10 Lifelong Halo fan. I like it. I'm somewhat disappointed. There are some things I really hate. I don't regret buying it. The gunplay feels typically really good, and the movement feels awesome. You can easily weapon juggle as well which would've made me sad if it wasn't included. The limitless sprinting is good and I'll die on this hill. The motion tracker gives less detail about the size of whatever is moving which is a huge downgrade from every other game in the series. The new voice acting for Cortana and Johnson is usually gratingly bad due to very poor directing more than the (re)writing imo. Keyes and John and Spark are all good. Its like a bad remix of a favourite song. It also feels clashy with the voice acting they chose to keep. The cutscene direction whiplashes between beautiful and mindbogglingly odd. (Very minor spoiler)The choice to have a rictus frozen on the face of the falling marine rather than just a blank look really took me out of the scene, and blunted the spooky effect that was built. It seemed very cartoonish to me(minor spoiler over). Idgaf that Cortana is ugly. I do gaf that she looks and sounds wrong. Same with Johnson. I think most would agree that they nailed his look in H2A. This ain't it. Some of the cutscenes almost look like they're missing some sort of graphic effect or using a low quality texture. Feels really sloppy, and I imagine this wasn't supposed to be their final pass. The remakes of the levels are actually fantastic; Especially missions 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are vastly improved by the streamlined level design. They just flow a lot better and downplay the copy paste that Bungie used for them. That said, stealing the banshee in AOTCR brings the banshee's problems to light because the canyon area to fly in is smaller. Unlike in the OG, you can't really shoot straight down. This restriction of maneuverability makes it very easy to overshoot or undershoot your target. The AR slaps now, and behaves like more of a mid range weapon. It deals some really nice damage. The pistol seems mostly the same, though I've noticed that there is a slight delay when swapping to it before you can begin shooting which has gotten me killed a few times. The sniper rifle is nice, but on heroic you can't take down a shield on any elites, making going for a one and done headshot impossible. Extremely unsatisfying. The shotgun sounds and looks powerful, but I think it's the worst the series has ever had. The Halo shotgun has always been my favourite and I really don't like this one mechanically. It seems to have a somewhat random shot spread that widens at very close range. This makes it very inconsistent to use, even against the F___d. Sometimes you blast through an enemy in one hit and sometimes it's like throwing a fistful of gravel at them. This has also gotten me killed several times. The beam rifle is great. Pretty much no notes except for that in the soundscape during large battles, it is incredibly difficult to hear when enemies are using it. The sound effect in previous games had a lot more treble to it and lingered longer, cutting through the chaos. This has led me to deaths by not playing as carefully as I should if I could properly hear that I'm being sniped at. The sentinel beam is so fun. No notes lol. The enemy AI seems very competent; I usually find them flanking me or flushing my position with grenades. At times the elite animations, which are from Halo: Reach really seem to slap me around. Their melee attack does nasty damage, and is so fast. "Skill issue" I know, it just doesn't seem like a positive change to me, as getting in a fist fight with them is extremely risky and feels far more unfair than in Halo: Reach. Conversely, the friendly AI is actually braindead. They clump and get shot, or clump and get naded, or clump and get flooded by small enemies. This is the most ally babysitting I've done since singleplayer L4D. Framerates have been fantastic with my 1% lows being in the high 50s and low 60s. The biggest problem I'm running into is that the game tends to freeze for a whole 2 seconds at a time before returning to normal. Again, this has gotten me killed. The screenshake is too intense, and the filmgrain you can't turn off makes what is a very beautiful game look muddy and ugly. The new missions were just okay. The dialogue between Johnson and John has really good moments, a handful of mediocre moments, and mostly just okay. The levels designs are pretty good, though the colouration throws me for a loop. The issue I found with them is that they frequently lock you in a room where you will fight typically 3 waves of increasingly diffcult enemies which enter the arena from all sides with no way out. It's gank city and got frustrating. Narratively, I don't think it really adds anything to Halo. There is also a section that is pretty much exactly like LNOS in Halo: Reach, but done worse imo. I love it, and I don't like it. For me it's still worth the full price, but holy it could've been better.Show moreShow less

Wasn't going to write a review for this game because it is all childhood nostalgia for me (so I will enjoy it regardless) but decided to when I saw that reviews were being bombed by cry babies who don't know how to utilize basic problem solving skills. A) All modern releases of Halo have required a Microsoft account, so this is NOT NEW and B) Uninstall/disable the Artbook DLC to access the game. Thank you forums!! Anyways...welcome back, chief and happy gaming ^_^ (I promise that I write serious and credible reviews for the most part, and will update this later but I just needed to get that off my chest lol) Update: Gonna keep this short and sweet because I just wanna vibe and save the planet. For starters, this is a remake. It's like the Halo we grew up on (enhanced graphically) and it plays like any other Halo game. Should you get it? If you are a Halo fan and have some extra cash to spare, I am having fun. I am running it on the ultra graphical settings and haven't had any issues. Looks great and has smooth gunplay. The extra skins are nice eye candy. Is it overpriced? Yeah, but so is every new game entering the market these days… remake or not >.< If you are new to the franchise and not sure if you will like this series, I would probably recommend just picking up 'The Master Chief Collection' on sale and starting there. Halo Infinite would even be a free alternative to familiarize yourself with the gunplay. Sometimes a girl just wants to run and gun while taking down some alien scum. This game scratches that itch and is a nice respite from competitive shooters. I am mainly focusing on the solo campaign. You can pick your difficulty setting. There is a tutorial with light story and guided objectives, making it easy to just shut your brain off and go. Which is why I have always loved Halo. Just simple, straightforward gameplay. If you aren’t a hardcore fan, just wait for a sale. Now back to saving all of humanity. Peace out.Show moreShow less
"Open your eyes my brothers, they would use the faith of our forefather's to bring ruin to us all!" This Campaign Evolved is heresy. The voice acting is awful... The unique missions are boring and conflict with existing lore material... No Fireteam mode... The Weapon Sandbox is cluttered and dying in co op just gives you what you need to kill rather than punish you with a load out sub optimal. Little things every minute come up where I'm like "Why did they do that?" Save your money. Play MCC.Show moreShow less
