Butters personally recommended this game to me, he's a true gamer and I got to say his recommendation was spot on. 10/10 definitely pick this one up.Show moreShow less
Today, a dev announcement in the HKIA discord outlined a plan to introduce paid cosmetics to the game, alongside a sizeable price hike for the upcoming City Town DLC. It's with a very heavy heart that I can no longer recommend this game and will be moving along to something else. The entire reason HKIA was first introduced to me, and many other players, was the (admittedly expensive) one time upfront cost for a continuing experience in game - no surprises, no FOMO paid cosmetics, no gacha. I sang the praises of this game to everyone I knew, and now I feel terrible about it. I'm so sorry. It used to be something special. :( ETA: Since there seems to be a bit of confusion I've added the relative announcements from the HKIA official dev and mod accounts: "There will be no microtransactions on ANY platform; this is a core tenet of Apple Arcade that Sunblink also believes strongly in" posted 1/11/2025 "... we'll be experimenting with smaller paid content packs that contain themed furniture, quests, foods, character outfits, and more. Think of these as mini DLCs around a specific theme... ...Expect the first content pack this summer!" posted 4/7/2026 This payment model is common in this day and age. For HKIA specifically, news spread that it was a game without surprise purchases and now it no longer is. At this time it's now $150 AUD for the complete HKIA experience and the number will go up, so I just wanted to post a fair warning.Show moreShow less
I don't play World of Warcraft, I'm playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure It's cute, and pretty chill... there's a lotta things to do and discover ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Show moreShow less
I think the game is fun!! But unfortunately it's just a 10$ mobile game at a +30 dollar premium. Very fun!! But until they lower the price I cant say I'd recommend :/Show moreShow less
butters was right, this is better than world of warcraftShow moreShow less
Enforcing punishment for time travelling on a solo player game that we had to pay money (AU$90 for deluxe) to play is so strange to me. Why are we not allowed to play this game how we want to play it? Even animal crossing doesn't do that to us. I absolutely don't understand the point of this is when there's no competitive side to this game. Until they lift the ridiculous punishments, I don't recommend this game. PS on their discord, the admins said it's against the rules to talk about this concern, so I'd like to bring attention to this concern here on Steam. Can't ban me here now, can you Sunblink? Edit: for context, the punishment is locking time travelers out of events (such as Halloween and Valentine's day) LITERALLY forever until you reset your game.Show moreShow less
7/10 I only played for 1 hour and my rating is the way it is SOLELY BECAUSE I was under the impression that “online co-op” meant that another player could advance in the world with me, do quests and build an island with me. That is not the case. Of course, this might not be news to some people (I had no knowledge of the game prior, nor did I look up how multiplayer would work), but I really wanted to play this game with my boyfriend and was super excited for it, only to find out that multiplayer isn’t really multiplayer. My boyfriend could join my world, run around, gift things to the island people but he did NOT have a quests tab, he couldn’t loot chests, and he couldn’t craft. He basically could not advance in the world/game and only could run around with me and help with puzzles. The game is adorable and great for playing by yourself, I was having a lot of fun doing the small quests already, but again, I had bought this game under the impression I’d be able to play with my partner since I rarely play single player games. Just letting anyone else out there know exactly how “multiplayer” works and it might be a dealbreaker for some! Regardless, I still think this game is worth and it’s ridiculously cute, quests are fun and so are the puzzles.Show moreShow less
Writing this review breaks my heart. I loved Hello Kitty Island Adventure when it first came out, however, ever since Sunblink introduced its monetization statregy I cannot recommend the game. I'm sure you've read a bunch of other reviews stating that Apple Arcade players receive the content for free that PC players have to pay for. Maybe it was wrong of me and many other players to expect updates and not $25 DLC that Apple Arcade users get for free. Honestly speaking, I feel like this isn't just a problem with Hello Kitty Island Adventure but how the games industry treats girl-centric-gaming in general. Look at similar games that are marketed towards girls. Many of them have egregious prices and egregious dlc on top of the egregiously priced based game. Looking at you, Sims and Disney Dreamlight Valley. As much fun as I had playing the game and being hopeful that PC users would receive the same updates Apple Arcade received for free, that's not the case and while I'm disappointed, I can put a game down and stop playing. I cannot support these practices and enabling the studio to do so will signal to them that they can keep taking advantage of us and $25 with barebones content worth of DLC is completely fine.Show moreShow less
We all laughed at Butters for saying Hello Kitty Island Adventure was better than World of Warcraft, but 19 years later in the current state of WoW.... Butters was right.Show moreShow less
i love this game but i am so tired of everything being time locked. i wanna play the game for hours, not 15 minutes, but the game makes you wait literal real world days to get anything done, whether it's resource gathering or just wanting to progress in the storyline. i'm tired of this, i am so freaking tired of this.Show moreShow less
