Love it. Sit down, have a cup of tea, play this game. Beware that it's not exactly like Where's Wally, there are a handful of characters where you have to get an animation going before you can actually click to 'find' the person. This advice won't make sense, until it makes sense, y'know?Show moreShow less
Hidden Folks is not exactly a bad game but it is a disappointment. Everything I read about this game and everything people told me about it made it sound like it was Where's Waldo but for the modern era. It's not. I used to love hidden stuff books when I was a kid so this should have been perfect but the thing that those books had that Hidden Folks does not is simply visually interesting stuff. Let's try something: I want you to go to google and just search for a page out of a Waldo book. You don't even have to bother looking for the guy, just look at the pages. You'll quickly notice that they are full of gags and interesting stuff happening, things that are not related with Waldo at all but simply happening in the scene. It is dense with fun things to see because the creator of Waldo would start each scene with a list of jokes or other visually interesting things that he wanted to draw and THEN he'd put Waldo in the scene once he had an interesting setup to show. Hidden Folks doesn't do that nearly as often. Instead it hides those little interesting things (a lot of times not that interesting either) within a massive scene of mostly copy-pasted and just slightly tweaked assets meant to hide what you are looking for, nothing more. Old hidden stuff books had lots of fun things to look at outside the objects/characters you were meant to find, Hidden Folks just has mostly clutter and interactable things that hinder you. That's just a bummer when it could be so much more if they focused on scene composition rather than having huge, sprawling screens full of little guys doing this wavey motion with their arms. It's why the tiny puzzles within Hidden Folks work better than the rest, I think: Less repetition, more unique and interesting stuff. Get it if you like finding random stuff but don't expect a ton of clever or amusing things outside the cute noises and kind of cute graphics.Show moreShow less
No click counters. No timers. No unnecessary game modes. Just you and the challenge to find all Folks and Objects following their respective clues. This is one of the purest gaming experiences I've had in a long time. Expect up to six hours of play time (if you're really slow like me) with the Factory Update. Don't forget that the developers are still working on free additional maps. In the now immortal words of Nina Struthers, "I bet you want this game. I bet you wanna buy this game. You will buy this game. I believe in you. Buy this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game!"Show moreShow less
It was cute for the first few levels, but the novelty wore off quickly and after that the game felt like work instead of fun. It essentially became "Here is a huge map but you cannot zoom out far enough to see all of it, not even to get a feel for what is out there. Now zoom in really close and scroll screen-by-screen several hundred times and pore over every pixel, clicking on almost everything, in the hopes that you accidentally click on this particular smudge." Sorry but that's work, not fun.Show moreShow less
A spectacular game, Hidden Folks is an absolute joy to play. We had some fun playing this on the TV while everyone pointed at cool things and passed the controller around. It is relaxing, pleasant, and sounds/looks great. I am really looking forward to the next chunk of content. Great job developers, this game is really something special :)Show moreShow less
Not for everyone. The game is wonderfully made with beautiful detailed drawings, funny sound effects, a variety of game play. I thought I would enjoy it since I do like point and click games, but it made me extremely anxious and stressed out after the first 3 levels. It takes a lot more patience to complete than I have. You do need to click around randomly all over the place to uncover things, and because of the amount of guesswork required, each click doesn't feel rewarding but stressful to me. There are no hints except for a vague sentence. I'd recommend trying it out, but don't expect much from it.Show moreShow less
Hyper-realistic sound simulator that comes with a very enjoyable hidden object game with slight puzzle elements. This game has also been DOOG approved.Show moreShow less
At first this game looks charming and fun. It's a "Where's Waldo" style with a cute visual style where you're given a bunch of objects to find in each stage. Unlike the Waldo books, rather than being given a description, you're given an actual picture of what to look for. While this might make it look easier, it's not as simple. Stages aren't just a still picture, as characters and scenery are animated, so it might not be as simple to tell what you're looking for. Also, some things are just not visible at first sight. Scenarios are interactive, and sometimes you have to do something to reveal the character or object you're looking for (such as clicking on a door to open it and find a person behind it, or cutting down a bush to reveal a hidden animal). The problem with this game is that it wears out its welcome very quickly. It's fun at first to click on objects around just to look at what happens and listen to the silly sounds, but then stages become ridiculously big and what used to be fun becomes a chore. You really find yourself forced to click on every piece of scenery to see if there's something hidden or some circumstance will change that will reveal what you're seeking. This is exacerbated by the monotonous black and white art style, which, while appealing at first, becomes a huge haystack to find needles in the moment the maps become massive. It's at this point that you realize that while the game has good ideas, some of them are just entirely incompatible with others, and this clash ends up turning a fun game into busywork. Seeing how this is all ingrained in the gameplay and changing it would require a complete overhaul, I cannot recommend the game, unless you're willing to the first stages of every area. As it is, though, I feel the game is the very definition of too much of a good thing.Show moreShow less
