01About Homicipher
Homicipher is a point-and-click adventure built around language puzzles and horror romance. After waking in another world, the protagonist must decipher the words of nonhuman beings and find a way out. Their expressions, gestures, and the objects they indicate offer clues. Investigating items and talking move the story forward, while choices can create branches or trigger instant game overs. A game over allows a penalty-free retry from just before it, and chapters let players return to earlier scenes. Steam player rating: 96%% positive from 7,887 reviews. Release date: October 31, 2024. Steam PC interface and subtitles: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

If you like horror and deciphering, and don't mind playing incomplete games, then this might be your thing. But if you don't like developer behaviour like: 1. Promising to update, but failing to do so because they don't feel thanked enough. 2. Claiming to be stressed by player feedback, which is mostly friendly and encouraging. 3. Changing the price to something lower than the first week's discount right after its over. 4. Complaining multiple times about "a certain country" on X. 5. Causing a lot of content creators to leave the fandom because they complained that they felt like they were losing their characters. Edit: *6. Saying some really disturbing stuff on X, including things like "I despise animals that arrogantly approach humans, expecting kindness, and I feel like kicking them away." Translation is from this tweet: https://x.com/RUIN_the_Bildn/status/1865693514304311374/photo/1 Then you might want to think twice before you purchase this.Show moreShow less

I played and loved the game, and therefore would have recommended it... until I saw what the developer was saying on X. I cant support a person who says such disgusting things. https://x.com/RUIN_the_Bildn/status/1865693514304311374 Link to translation of what the dev was saying on X.Show moreShow less

I have 50 hours in this game because I leave it on my monitor so I can pretend Mr. Crawling is sleeping in my bed with me at night. 10/10 gameShow moreShow less
First thing first I do like this game. I love the concept, like the character designs, have played all demos on steam and given recommendations. Disregarding the 'only 1 save page works' bug (pls fix it) I have enjoyed playing this game a lot and got all the endings so far. It pains me to give a not recommended comment. First is the price change, which I think it mostly the publisher's fault. The original price when it came out was $15.99 with a 10% discount (14.39), but now it's 13.99 with no discount. It may not be a big deal if you only look at the numbers, but think more about it: Most ppl who bought the game as soon as it came out were long time supporters/followers like me, and we somehow paid more for it. This unannounced and unexplained price change feels like a betrayal. And then even at this new price, the game at its current stage does not make up for it. Except the couple main characters' routes, all other routes feel rushed and unfinished. The author has said that it is not an otome game and I don't really look for sweet sweet love stories, but come on, at least give me complete stories? Or even a complete conversation with minor characters? Minor routes' experience is like reading a manga that's terminated in the middle: "Our adventure continues!" THE END and the main protagonist had only 3 lines with his love interest, and one of them was "Hi". I hope the author will be completing them in later updates, but it seems unlikely. *12/9 Author has given up on further updates. Overall it is still an interesting game, but I would say hold on buying it. There maybe more updates and even lower price change in the future.Show moreShow less
"Who is the target demographic of a horror-themed linguistic-based dating sim?" Me, move over. I thrive in this enviroment, and the ability to easily retry without consequence fuels me further. (I am building up immunity to jumpscares. Soon nothing will stop me.) All jokes aside, this game really drives home the the following: - Don't judge people by their first appearance. - Communication takes work from both sides. - Don't give yourself away senslessly. - Violence doesn't solve all of your problems, but it is going to solve *some* of them. - There is a tool for every task and a task for every tool. - Set your own boundaries. You shouldn't go along with someone's propositions just because they (say they) like you. - If you find yourself alienated and unaccepted by most of society, you might as well have fun and get weird with it. Find like-minded people. Start a found family. Outsiders are already judgemental, so what are they going to do, avoid you even more? - Recovery takes time and you are going to end up different than you were before. That is nothing to be afraid of. You do not have to cherish it either. Just account for it. - If you wait long enough, things will change. Not encessarily in your favour, not necessarily to your detriment. They will just change. - Strength is in the community. - Eventually you are going to become the person that could have saved you that one time no one did. - Don't give personal information to people you don't know.Show moreShow less
TLDR: The game has a unique concept with a likeable cast and an interesting MC, but fails in many aspects such as explaining lore, having no proper conclusions to the endings, failing to highlight an important character, and having almost no romance despite being an "otome." Pros: >Unique concept. Mixing the horror and otome genre is already unique in itself, and they took it a step further with the language barrier. >The characters are very likeable and expressive. Even if you haven't deciphered all the words you can still grasp their different personalities. >The MC is NOT annoying!!! Sick and tired of your favorite otome depicting you, the player, as a damsel in distress? Then look no further! This MC is not to be messed with!! Cons: >A lot of lore but little explanation. Just when you feel like you're about to learn some new information you're hit with the tiniest crumb of knowledge, and some more amnesia. >The endings are not fleshed out. At all. I can appreciate a good "leave it up to the imagination" type ending, but not when ALL endings are like that. Most of the endings leave off at such random points that you can't even imagine a continuation. >Important character who is irrelevant. The character who is meant to be a crucial plot point RARELY shows up. We get to have one semi-proper conversation with them right before the credits roll. We know nothing about this character, and with such little presence in the game we aren't able to discern their personality. This was the greatest let down for me. >Hardly any romance. There is one ending that officially confirms romantic involvement while the rest are left up for interpretation as I previously explained. I genuinely enjoyed the game however, I cannot bring myself to recommend it as the cons far outweigh the pros. If you've read this far and the cons weren't a deal-breaker for you then you should try it out!Show moreShow less
