“Visual fidelity in this life simulator dazzles with 137-character facial sliders and dense urban building, yet masks a brutally repetitive daily loop and poor optimization.”
Our Verdict
The biggest problem with this game isn't that it's poorly made, it's that it's incomplete.
The graphics are indeed 2025 standard, character customization is indeed industry-leading, and the building system is indeed more powerful than The Sims 4. But these are all tools, not a game. When you finish creating your character and building your house, and sit down ready to "play," you'll find there's nothing here. No story to tell, no goals to pursue, no emotions to invest in.
You can spend a hundred hours decorating houses, designing characters, and adjusting city layouts. If you enjoy this kind of pure creative process, then this game is worth buying. But if you're expecting a "life"—a life with emotions, growth and change, unexpected surprises—then you'll be disappointed.
The game's current state is like a finely decorated empty house. Fully furnished, exquisitely decorated, but no one lives there. Maybe in a year the developers will fill it up, but that's a year from now. For now, I suggest waiting for a sale, or waiting until it's truly "complete."

Don't support dictatorships, especially ones that force heavily censored life. InZOI has doubled down on data harvesting (ya sure like everyone else.) and continuing the trend that adult mods will have your licenses revoked if they find out.. Paralives is the best alternative, with thousands of free items on the Creation Club and updates constantly and steadily, unlike InZOI. Paralives is highly modable and they have no desire to check your mod list because that's YOUR mod list. Edit: Until this game updates it's ToS and Offline abilities It's not worth the 40 currently.Show moreShow less
I want to give a W to the devs for removing Denuvo, making the game now run better and without hindrance to the future of modding. They've shown to listen to community feedback multiple times and make not only the changes needed, but in a timely manner too. The future looks bright for inZOI.Show moreShow less
Early access game spending dev time on a DLC when core features in the base game are missing or broken is a huuuuge red flag. I'd go back and pass on this one if I could.Show moreShow less

I really, really want to like inZOI, but I have very mixed feelings about it… On the surface, the game looks fantastic - the graphics are great, and the character designer is impressive. I had lots of fun playing with it and creating characters, but the gameplay itself is incredibly bare-bones, even for Early Access. Skills feel totally meaningless, and the world lacks depth. For example, you can just stand in one spot watering the same tomato plant all day to max out gardening. Cooking only lets you prepare a single portion at a time, followed by washing a single plate, which makes everything feel slow and artificial. There’s no real depth or immersion behind these mechanics. Again—I know it’s Early Access, but the systems don’t seem well thought out at all. Beyond the gameplay, I’m seriously concerned with how the game is being managed. Despite being just launched into Early Access, DLC has already been mentioned multiple times, which is unsettling when the core game itself is still so underdeveloped. There are also predatory tactics in place, like FOMO-driven events and exclusive rewards only for streamers, leaving regular players out. The "Play Together" event is especially bad—it’s essentially a referral campaign where you have to convince others to buy the game just to get a cat costume, and even that doesn’t work properly. Krafton has been slow to acknowledge or fix these issues, frustrating a lot of players. This kind of approach might be expected in mobile games, but for a single-player PC game in Early Access, it’s just wrong. If you’re on the fence about buying inZOI, I’d recommend waiting to see if it improves and reveals it's identity. Right now, Krafton is not making a great first impression. Edit after the latest update: The new patch added a holiday island themed city and some new farm-sim like skills like in theory improved gardening (you can plant in soil and have some farming tools) and mining. Sadly, even with these features, the gameplay is still shallow as hell and I feel like it didn't bring anything to the game at all. Many mobile games are honestly more engaging than this. The cities feel empty and dead. Zois just run around and change outfits with no logic, instead of following a career or doing something interesting. If you go to the market or a restaurant the space looks somewhat busy but no one interacts or sits down to eat. When you move in a custom family they just seem to stay at home behind locked gates and never leave. Romances are broken. You can marry someone in five minutes, or you get constant refusals and negative outcomes no matter what you do, even when characters seem perfectly compatible. Professional relationships also feel pointless. They exist as a category, but I have not seen any clear gameplay benefit to building them beyond having a label and unlocking some more shallow interactions that just differ in label alone. Players online also seem to say the same thing, that these systems are undercooked and offer no real reason to engage with them. The new skills look nice at first but they are just as shallow and repetitive as the rest of the systems in game. On top of that the visual quality has gone down. Textures were reduced and now look messy or blurry even on high settings. A lot of players have noticed this and think it is because Krafton is trying to optimise for weaker machines, but it ends up making the game look much worse for high end PCs. Surveys from players seem to show the same picture. The main problems are a lack of simulation depth and very awkward social interactions. There are also bugs, like remarriage when children are involved causing whole family members to vanish. No surprise then that the player base has dropped by more than 80% since launch. Krafton says they will release a roadmap and fix things, but at the moment inZOI feels like a beautiful shell with very little inside. Unless they start listening to the feedback and make some serious changes it risks becoming another Early Access project that never delivers on its promise and dies.Show moreShow less
I used to love The Sims, no doubt, Building my world from the inside out. But EA crept in with a devilish grin, "Fun's not free...now type your PIN!" A thousand bucks to play it right? DLC stacked out of sight. Want a pet? That’s not for free. Want a full game? Don’t look at me. But now I’ve found a better way, No paywalls standing in my way. InZOI’s here... no greed, no lies, At least for now... no corporate spies. No broken game, no cash-grab schemes, Just play, create, and live your dreams.❤︎Show moreShow less
it's not as simple as a yes or no here. honestly, this game has some really innovative and funny stuff in it. the 3D object creator is awesome, the AI emotes and other generation options are very cool. the game itself looks really pretty. the level of customization is literally off the charts. but the thing is, there isn't really any content to play right now. so if you don't enjoy designing houses, zois, your city, or furniture/clothing assets and such, then you aren't going to have fun with this yet. it really isn't a "game" yet, there are really only the creative sandbox tools right now. looking forward to the future potential of the game but right now, even though i personally am going to enjoy this, i would say do not buy, wait for updates. january 2026 edit: i continue to affirm that this game needs more time before it's worth purchasing.Show moreShow less
As a long-time Sims player, I was always optimistic about InZoi after seeing it's initial reveal trailer, and I have to say it has really impressed me. If you love the life simulation genre but have felt frustrated with The Sims 4’s endless DLC model and limitations, InZoi is absolutely worth checking out. Right off the bat, the level of customization is fantastic. The character creator is incredibly detailed, allowing for more realistic and unique Zois right from the start. The graphics are also a huge step up from The Sims 4, with smoother animations and a more natural look. One of the biggest wins for InZoi is its open-ended gameplay. Instead of being locked into rigid, pre-designed interactions, it feels like you have more organic ways to develop relationships, careers, and daily life. The open world is also a huge improvement over The Sims' instanced neighborhoods. You are free to explore seamlessly without loading screens breaking immersion, making the world feel more alive and connected. You are also in direct control of your Zoi, able to walk and run using traditional controls, rather than being locked to the "click here to move" system, which is still present for those who want it. On top of that, the developer actually listens to the community. After backlash about Denuvo being in the game, it was removed before launch, showing a real pro-gamer mindset. The dev has also stated that he wants InZoi to be highly moddable, which is a huge plus for anyone who loves community-driven content. Unlike EA’s approach of locking features behind expensive DLC, the creator seems focused on giving players real freedom and customization options. It is still early and there is room to grow, but the foundation here is solid. If you have been craving a life sim that moves the genre forward and actually respects its players, InZoi is absolutely worth keeping an eye on. Edit: For some reason people are claiming that I am either a paid reviewer, used ChatGPT to write this, or my account is a "bot". I can assure you that none of those is the case, and despite steam saying (at least on my end) I only have 1 hour of playtime, I have by my best estimates about 8-9 hours, and had 4 hours when writing the review. Unsure why steam isn't tracking it accurately, but it's happening on all my games currently so it's definitely an issue on my end.Show moreShow less
Their stance and restrictions on modding have killed the game before it even had a chance to release. https://playinzoi.com/en/clause/mods_policy "Mods cannot change, reproduce or otherwise alter the Game code, object code, source code or the internal structure of the Game’s software or related Services. " Also neglecting the Steam Workshop is a wasted opportunity for player convenience.Show moreShow less
