Community is dwindling due to the developers inability to detect a historical cheat user [ZAB]. https://imgur.com/3mqZDEC Edit post dev rebuttal: 10/30/23 The devs would like you to know that its normal for an individual to snap aim at enemy player models and amass 300 kills per game. In a game with a spawn pool of 2-300. The servers evacuate when this player comes into the only populated server. They (devs) advise that you may try a different server if you do not like playing with hackers. This is valid advise, if you like fighting with and against bots who's AI is only capable of running forward and shooting. Leaving the rest of the games mechanics to flesh and blood players, like throwing grenades, calling in strikes, or building defenses. Other games of the AAA variety have, within the past year, began detecting the types of AI controller assist that the aforementioned hacker uses. Until this developer invests in the detection and prevention systems made standard on other games like Destiny 2, COD warzone, and rainbow six; we will continue to be pushed out of the game. I've experienced a game where a dev was on my team and expressed exacerbation towards the hackers total dominance. The hacker will join games on a "[bugle] Test" account after game updates to make sure they are still undetected prior to logging onto their-as-of-yet undetected main account. We're all tired of seeing it. In lieu of an investment in hack detection, the community proposes a vote-kick feature. At present you can only mute/report griefers and hackers. They can still dismantle your structures and block your vision. As stated before, you cannot simply find an alternate server when the daily player count can only fill one official server. Occasionally the other regional servers are half populated depending on peak hours, but its unreliable. Ive maxed out every class besides officer but I'm uninstalling after this ignorant developer response. To the developers, I understand you may outsource your antihack services so you have very little say in what gets caught, but I encourage you to investigate "Chronus Zen" before you immortalize this grand defense of a petty hacker who predates your games.Show moreShow less
That's edelweiss. That only grows in the Alps above the tree line... ...which means he climbed up there to get it. It's supposed to be the mark of a true soldier.Show moreShow less
I love this series of games but sadly the devs refuse to do anything about a cheater that is on during almost all peak hours and cleans out lobbies with his cheating. Until they implement a vote to kick or an anti cheat system not from 2012 the game will keep dying due to player base leaving for games that deal with cheaters.Show moreShow less
I have been waiting for a WW1 game like this for years. It takes everything that they have learned from Verdun and Tannenberg and combines them into a beautiful masterpiece.Show moreShow less
Another review put it best when they said this game can't decide if it wants to be a fast-paced run and gun shooter, or a more methodical one like its predecessors. Because it seems to fall in between, it just feels like a letdown for anyone that's looking for either play style. It feels like it wants to be faster paced with all the new CoD/BF-like mechanics they’ve introduced but the movement and gunplay just feel too sluggish meet that demand. There’s nothing wrong with introducing new mechanics to an already existing series but this game is such an arcadey departure from Verdun and Tannenberg that it doesn’t even feel like it’s part of the same series. It’s very reminiscent of Battlefield 1 as they’ve stripped away much of what made their earlier games historically accurate focused WW1 shooters. Introduced into this game are gadgets like a flare gun that spots enemies (including a red dot over their head and updates on the map), a canteen that makes you run faster, binoculars that have a spotting function, and entrenching tools that now build sandbags, barbed wire, ammo crates, etc. Unlike Hell Let Loose that relies on the proximity of a consumable supply crate to construct these things, you can build wherever you want. There is no health regeneration anymore. Now you must bandage yourself but don't worry because you carry an infinite supply of bandages. Oh, but you can only use it if you’re seriously injured, other you have to rely on a teammate to bandage you to full health. You no longer unlock weapons and gadgets by purchasing a new loadout through XP points you’ve accrued. Now you complete certain challenges to unlock new items (x number of kills while crouching, x number of kills while canteen effect is active). One of the major issues I’ve noticed is there is very little variety in the weapons. Both Verdun and Tannenberg were jam-packed with tons of options without having to implement prototype weapons like you see in BF1 but this game feels like they cut the weapon content by 60-70%. They've also gone the lazy route of just making the final unlock for each class the default starting weapon of the opposing team. There’s a whole slew of new CoD/Battlefield style mechanics of automatic weapons (e.g. ADS with a heavy machinegun while standing up/moving) and far more classes with grenades and pistols available. In Verdun, you were unable to ADS an MG without employing the bipod but no longer is that a restriction. Now you can lug around a 40 lb. machine gun and hip fire it at people with noticeable efficiency or ADS while moving with an MG that has a butterfly trigger. Pistols and grenades are unlockable for almost all of your classes. In the past games you had to weigh the pros and cons of each loadout, now you can essentially have your own "create-a-class" loadout. Special abilities (e.g. mortar shots) now have a much quicker cooldown rate and things like strafing and bombing runs and constructable mortars and cannons are introduced. The insane amount of bombing run, strafing run, artillery strike, gas barrage spam means that every couple of minutes the screen starts shaking violently as somebody’s bombing run cooldown is refreshed and a new one can be sent on the way. No longer do you have to be tactical with the “where” and “when” activation of artillery strikes, if you can wait a couple minutes then they’ll be available again. The biggest problem with prime example of their desire to move towards a faster paced game akin to CoD/BF, is that there’s no friendly fire damage. You can just spam bombing runs and artillery strikes on top of a heavily contested area full of both friendlies and enemies knowing that you won’t kill any of your teammates. Friendly fire didn’t exist in Verdun and Tannenberg but because the cooldown and effect of the call-ins was so much more toned down, it felt fair. This really wouldn't be so arcadey if you just had the ability to shoot down aircraft as a counter. As it stands, bombing runs are essentially just artillery strikes with airplane models flying above the target. I’ll add an honorable mention of the horrible AI. Either they’re complete idiots that run right past you or they’re flick shotting you through dense smoke and foliage that no human could see through. Again, the AI was pretty tough in the previous games, but this is significantly worse. You’ll probably be playing with bots pretty frequently since there’s only one full server, at most and even then, only at certain times of the day. Overall, it feels like Verdun and Tannenberg were games that required a more tactical and thought-out approach to attacking or defending and they felt like a WW1 game beyond just the map layout and available weapons. This game is desperately trying to be the appeal to the level of run and gun playstyle that you see in all the Battlefield titles but without a satisfying end result. The introduction of gadgets, extensive availability of automatic weapons in a WWI shooter, and the rapid cooldown of special abilities demonstrates that this game is such an unsatisfying departure from Verdun and Tannenberg that it’s like playing a completely separate series. Will I keep playing the game? Yes, I spent money on it, and I have friends that play but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that expects it to be a similar experience to either of its predecessors.Show moreShow less
I'm so glad this game have bots. I'm too old to play competitive games nowadays, so having the option to just chill with bots sometimes is really great. And yeah the bots are kicking my ass lol.Show moreShow less
Sum-Up In-depth analysis further down. 🟩 Pros 🟥 Cons - Extremely detailed and historically-true adaptation of locations, equipment, uniforms and anything else used in WW1 during this conflict, paired with top-shelf graphics. - Each specialized class offers a distinct gameplay experience, with a precise role on the battlefield. It’s fun and engaging to progress with each of them. - Solid sound design and voice acting, that increase immersion and use expressions fitting for that time and situations (most of the time, anyway). - Clever gameplay approach that punishes single-minded action and promotes coordinated team efforts to secure victory. There is no “I” in Team. - Only one game mode and a rather limited selection of maps that will feel like ‘already seen’ rather soon. - Significant balance problems with classes, perks, tools and weapons across the board. Some are OP while others redundant or downright useless. - Outrageous quantity of bugs and issues, ranging from funky hitreg, chopped animations all the way to invisible, bugged people able to plant bombs and ruin entire matches. - No role kick or server kick to counter exploit abusers, griefers or incompetent officers, thus dooming entire matches to failure or severe annoyances. 🟨 Bugs & Issues 🔧 Specs - It would take an entirely separate review to list all the severe bugs you’ll encounter. Prepare for the incredible, as this is one of the most broken multiplayer games of this genre I played in 23 years of gaming. - 3900X - 2080Ti - 32GB RAM - SSD - 1440p Content & Replay Value: It took me around 75 hours to reach level 20 with all classes (except marksman, 18), unlock all weapons and also finish most challenges. After that, it’s a matter of how much time you want to invest in multiplayer, since Isonzo has no “real” end. Is it worth buying? Not in the current state. While it’s a fun game at its core, the enormous quantity of both annoying and game-breaking bugs ultimately makes it a pass for now. The price of 30€ is more than fair for the proposed content and three free expansions coming up. Verdict: Mediocre Rating Chart Here What could be the next shiny gem in this relatively niche FPS subgenre is ruined by mountains of bugs and problems, bigger than the mountains you’ll have to conquer. Visually and historically, each location and piece of equipment is impressive in detail. The devs didn’t spare any effort in making weapons sound as they should, people talk like they should, and model each equipment piece as it really was back in the days with minute detail. If you’re looking for an immersive, true-to-reality title then this is certainly your next stop. Gore and brutality are parts of war too, though they can be disabled - expect dismembered people jittering, screaming on the ground regularly and body parts flying all over after an artillery strike. Another commendation has to be done to voice-lines of both factions, well-acted and, for the Italian side at least, plausible and quite amusing most of the time. Progression & Challenges Each of the six classes levels up as you rack up XP from your actions on the battlefield, usually calibrated in proportion to their perceived usefulness (not always in the best way): killing enemies, bandaging wounded allies, spotting with binoculars, capturing enemy objectives or simply defending an area marked with an Officer’s order will all result in gaining points for the next level. Every three levels all classes unlock a challenge that, when completed, will grant new weapons, tools and passive perks to further improve and specialize themselves - this trial is often related to that class’ role on the field, like doing headshots for a Marksman or spotting people for a Mountaineer. These challenges become harder as you rank up, with those at level 20 being the toughest, but also enabling the use of some captured weapons from the other faction when completed. The fact you’ll be rewarded for playing the objectives and following orders, conversely earn less points for not doing so, is a good incentive for players to stay on their target and help the team. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2871287637 Two Sides: Attack & Defense In the sole game mode present, the two sides will be in either Attack or Defense, always the same role on each map. The Attackers’ side will have to capture a series of points of interest to further their advance, while the Defenders need to stop them. Other than the forward bases, which act as spawns and can be destroyed or rebuilt multiple times, the main points are either Capture Points or Bombs, the difference being that on the former a stronger attacker presence will be needed to capture it, and a solid defense will get it back in the defenders’ hands, while the Bomb may only be planted by attackers and will permanently destroy that point if it’s not defused in time. One of the biggest issues with this system is how overtime is handled: even a single enemy attacker can maintain it by staying in the objective, after their side has run out of tickets (spawns), no matter if one or 20 defenders are on the point. This can go on for even a long time in certain locations, even if defenders have an overwhelming advantage and clearly deserve the win. Combat System & Gunplay The combat is highly realistic, as bullets (bad hitreg notwithstanding) kill most people instantly, bleed you out slowly if they don’t. Most guns consist of bolt-action rifles, even if some classes have semi-auto pistols and even machineguns heavily-limited in total number - other than fixed emplacements like mortars, HMGs and even cannons in a few maps. On top of all that, Officers (two per team) can call in planes, gas and artillery strikes on existing flare markers, to help their team secure the objectives by inflicting large amounts of losses, albeit with high cooldowns. An Officer can make or break an entire match, so the fact incompetent ones can’t be kicked out is another blunder. The gunplay feels solid and satisfactory, however the inconsistency of damage-dealing and hitreg hinder it massively: “+5 Damage” will be your nemesis, randomly wounding enemies instead of killing them for no apparent reason, even with hits to the torso or even the head. Sometimes, your hits may not register at all, not once but even multiple times in a row. Melee on the other hand never fails, but is hard to put into action in most cases. Grenades and explosives can be spammed in massive amounts, given how some classes can replenish them on-the-go, so expect each contested point to be an incessant rain of grenades, rifle grenades, artillery and so on - being killed randomly is common and you’ll have to get used to it, if not for the bugs, for the sheer amount of bullets flying around at any point. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2873322663Show moreShow less

It's not ready yet; Hit scan weapons with no lead required regardless of distance. Lowest graphics setting gives users an extreme advantage is seeing enemies and basically removes most grass and bushes. Having the pretty graphics all set to ULTRA which is easy even on an old 1080ti results in you getting shot through trees and stuff that low setting users see right through. Maps are pretty tight, not the worst point but mehShow moreShow less
