The only thing you have to do is read the other negative reviews and their points, then scroll down and read the dev reply that is BOUND to be there. The devs dig their own grave with every comment they make and prove every negative review right. Join the discord and watch how each cult member interacts with any person that disagrees with them. When 'teacher's pet' moderators troll and are allowed to give cute little pepe reactions, you would think the devs would reconsider why they made them a moderator in the first place. But no, they are too precious, the devs could never lose their favorite people. I hope you like a guilt trip roller coaster too, because you'll get it in this community. It's a blast, I absolutely LOVE wasting my time and feeling like I was in the wrong. Need I say more? Another player shared this dev quote after being literally coerced into changing their review to a positive one (they're not the only one being convinced though): "The main problem with voicing concerns in steam reviews is that it reduces our store visibility which directly harms us; it's why I try respond to as many reviews as possible" There was a time when I had fun playing the game with all my friends. Now just seeing it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Check out the game and community. You'll see why the negative reviews exist.Show moreShow less

As implied by a game based on labyrinthian level design, Labyrinthine is equally fun as it is tedious and frustrating. Levels and enemies that are initially spooky and surprising become annoying very quickly. It saddens me to feel so "mixed" about this game. I finished the game (not including the recently released Chapter 4) with 2 friends and could genuinely hear the fatigue of tedium in their voices within the first hour. With no punishment for death (immediate respawn) and a shared inventory amongst players, any potential fear is replaced with teams sprinting wildly across the map with ZERO caution. Individual inventory, proximity chat, and team-revive mechanics would go a long way in making the game feel like an actual cooperative experience. Right now, Labyrinthine is a few tweaks shy of being a great game. I was inclined to try Chapter 4, but the update deleted my save and I have no desire to play from the start. Regardless, I'm very happy to have supported an indie developer and plan to play it again if they commit to some gameplay overhauls.Show moreShow less
Posting this review after the reveal of GoTY, I have quite a bit of time in this game, it's definitely made from a team who cares not only about their work but their community too, it's depressing to see this game that I've fallen in love with get review bombed by sore losers, if you have a problem with the results, take it up with steam, don't start bombing another game cause you didn't win, congratulations to all the other games that got nominated for VR GOTY, that alone is an achievement in itself, and to be quite honest a lot of the community thought other games would win, just try to be sportsman's like. If you do try out the game know that there is more to the game then just the story mode, I implore you to try the game out with friends, it's a good fright and very fun when you understand mechanics, plus there's a whole array of cosmetics you can find and hunt down.Show moreShow less
The game has potential, but right now I just can't recommend buying it, even as an early-access indie title. I am only leaving a negative review to set expectations for future buyers, as my group all went into this based on a "Very Positive" average review and were let down. The issues we ran into were actually in the text of positive reviews, but not very visible from a high-level when purchasing the game. I'm not refunding, as I do believe the developers are working hard to address known issues, and I will give it another try in a few months after an update or two. Technical issues: - Ingame voice chat does not work, after several attempts, but being able to use proximity chat would add so much to this game. - Controls and video settings either do not work, or flip back to default. Gameplay/atmosphere issues: - The monster animations need attention. It completely breaks immersion given how "ministry of silly walks" they are. The models themselves could be good, and genuinely scary with the right animations. - The death and immediate checkpoint spawn mechanism means dying isn't really a scary thing, it encourages players to be a bit ballsy, and loses the scary atmosphere. - No guidance on how to deal with monsters. Do you run away, hide? Do you need to do different things for each?Show moreShow less

Alright, so many people are going to consider this a scam. Chapter 1 is really well done. The puzzles are clear, they give you hints to deal with the threat, the puzzle is understandable, the maze isn't excessively complicated. Chapter one is honestly a great experience. Chapter 2 is less-so. It's still fun and interesting, but the goal is less clear, there's less clarification on the threat, and you just kind of have to hope you escape. Chapter 3 has literally no direction other than "wander into the woods and find the things and hope that thing out there doesn't see and kill you, but it probably will." Chapter 4 is just a convoluted maze with monsters that make no noise until they see you after you turn the corner into them. The puzzle has no hints, there's no direction, no anything. You just wander around, constantly dying and hoping you manage to get the next piece of the puzzle before you forget what you were even done. That said, the mood is solid, but there's just no direction what-so-ever. It just turns into a wild goose chase where you just keep dying in an attempt to gain one inch, but getting lost in the process. There's no real way to evade the monsters - or even know where they are until you turn into them. They also seem to ignore obstacles, so you can't even outrun them.Show moreShow less
