Thumbs down for adding denuvo 3 days before release, mere hours before the deluxe version early access, I will not support additional content. For those stating that only pirates hate denuvo, here is a paying customer that is unsatisfied. EDIT: https://twitter.com/DenuvoScum/status/1703844996519006469Show moreShow less
This is the perfect game to fill the Bloodborne PC -shaped hole in our hearts..Show moreShow less
Pros: + The closest any independent studio has come to touching From Software’s legacy: It’s undeniable what Lies of P’s inspiration is, regardless of what the development team may say. The tone and style of Bloodborne with mechanics resembling Sekiro and Dark Souls. But, despite its many flaws (and the overall tone of this review), the game does do an astounding job at living up to that comparison – and I’d be very excited to see what else this team can do. + Beautiful Music and World detail: Between the detail of Krat and its surrounding areas, and the incredible music via the records and the boss music, this game matches the quality of triple AAA titles, while establishing itself with style wholly unique from most games out there. There’s also a ton of variety in the areas you visit and the enemies you encounter, which is quite hard to manage to do successfully. + Fun weapon and clothing unlockables: Unique boss weapons, such as a rapier umbrella. Fun character outfits, such as the variety of animal masks Stalkers wear. There were several unlocks that were genuinely exciting to mess around with, which is a huge boon for any game looking to emulate From Software’s legacy. + Engaging and interesting narrative and characters: There are some incredible character moments in this game that easily rival what you’d typically see in a From Software game. Antonia’s storyline, for example, is wonderful, and her personality wins you over almost immediately. + Large amount of bang for your buck: Playing through the demo, my largest worry was that it would be an incredibly short experience. However, I was mistaken: my standard playthrough is roughly around 37 hours, having tried my best to see everything. Even better, the game offers a NG+ with unique rewards, and with multiple different endings, your playtime could be significantly longer! + Runs Great: I can safely say I personally had zero negative experiences with optimization - game ran great at an almost consistent 144. Cons: - Absurd Parry and Dodge Timing:: One of the largest, and loudest, criticisms the game received with the demo was concern over the dodging and perfect guarding feeling incredibly tight and difficult to use. Make no mistake: this has, as of the writing of this, not been fixed anywhere close to far enough. You WILL miss parry timings incredibly often, dodging will never feel quite right even after you upgrade it (which, by the way, should absolutely not be a thing). The timing is so pinpoint that even by the end of the game, I still wasn’t hitting most of my perfect guards. It has succeeded in making me want to replay Sekiro, just to feel some consistency, and resulted in my entire playthrough feeling incredibly annoying. - Artificial Difficulty: One of the most important fundamental lessons From Software can teach, in seeking to make a Souls-like game, is how to make encounters challenging but fair. And this fundamental lesson is completely missed by this game – Enemies often have insane amounts of health, and most do not stagger remotely from your swings. Boss fights rely on Double Phases (there are literally 6+, including THREE BACK TO BACK in the final area, which is absolutely absurd, YOU CAN HAVE NORMAL BOSS FIGHTS). Human fights tend to devolve into backstab fests because trying to actually engage with them and their lack of stagger is frustrating. - Gemini: I have no hate for the VA, who did a great job. But Gemini has to be, without a doubt, the worst inclusion of a game character in any game. From pointing out the obvious and ruining world storytelling (Wait a second… she’s a puppet? What’s going on here?), to making insanely inappropriate and annoying Marvel-style quips (Listen Pal, Nice Landing? But let’sss not make it a habit) – Gemini never offers ANYTHING other than ruining great story telling. Imagine if, in Elden Ring, you had an annoying chipper voice narrating your discoveries. It’s absurd, and unnecessary. I KNOW it fits into the Pinocchio story, but, even so, Gemini does not fit the mood or tone of a game like this, and would've been better suited as an advisor NPC at the hotel. - Weapon Variety: As many users have pointed out, Heavy Weapons are simply not viable for a majority of people. They’re very slow, they do only a marginal amount of damage more than dexterity weapons, they have barely any stagger, they take extremely high durability damage, and many of the movesets are interruptable mid-swing. And the problem isn’t that Dex weapons need to be nerfed – they simply need to make heavy weapons better, across the board, full stop. - Mechanic Flaws: There are several mechanics in this game that, in my opinion, either add little to the game or detract from it heavily. The repair system (I barely ever had to engage with this system, and when I did, it was a huge annoyance that halted game rhythm) and the Fable system (the abilities are sick, but you barely ever get to use them even after upgrading them) are two examples that come to mind. Also, as mentioned before, upgrading dodging should not be a thing – dodging should just be good from the start. - Disappointing Rewards : Several unique bosses and enemies, including the Black Rabbit Brotherhood, do not drop unique rewards despite having neat weapons, clothing, and/or abilities that would be fun to use as the player. Especially the older brother’s buster sword and mask! Like, how the hell did we not get that at all? Overall: Lies of P has to be one of the most conflicting experiences I’ve played in a long time. There is a ton to celebrate in the game’s craftsmanship, and I genuinely believe that it is the closest any developer has come to replicating the magic that From Software creates. But, as much as I tried to ignore it, the flaws in this game soured my entire experience. Awkwardly tuned block timing, ridiculous and annoying enemy and boss design philosophy, and a myriad of individual mechanical problems got in the way of the enjoyable things the game did. Because of this, I personally cannot recommend the game. I would heavily recommend trying this game out on Game Pass before you buy it, to see if it’s a good fit for you. If the game ever fixes these issues, I’d reevaluate it for sure.Show moreShow less

I like this game a lot, but the creator has decided to start hiring Generative AI instead of humans. So I, as an artist, gamer, and human being who likes living without a 40,000 acre data center in my back yard, I will no longer support the creator of any of his works :)Show moreShow less

Not The Best Soulslike I've been hearing one significant phrase from many people about Lies of P since it was released: "Lies of P is the best Souls-like aside FromSoftware games." Is that true? Let me share my thoughts with you. Since Lords of the Fallen 2014, countless studios tried their version of Dark Souls over many years with countless attempts. There have been attempts of the genre in many ways, 2D Soulslikes, Shooter Soulslikes, Metroidvania Souls-likes, Looter Souls-Likes, and so on...Even though some of them were successful games. One thing everybody agrees on is that none of those games is as good as FromSoftware's games. Everyone agreeing on the internet on a topic is a rare topic as you know. That's how good FromSoft's Soulsborne games are. To begin with Lies of P, the game runs great. I didn't experience a single drop throughout my experience. This is a great achievement for an inexperienced studio in AAA games and probably the strongest side of Lies of P. The graphics in Lies of P are amazing. It's safe to say the game looks way better than any Fromsoftware game. The art design is very good and the game looks beautiful up until chapter 7. After that, environments and enemies look very unimaginative and ordinary. So Lies of P is inspired by Bloodborne visually, that's true. But this is definitely not a Bloodborne knockoff, like some people says it is. Lies of P has its own originality with its atmosphere, environment design, enemy design, soundtrack, combat, and so on. While the story was intriguing, I couldn't help but feel that it could have been fleshed out further, with more opportunities for player choice and exploration. I don't know why, but studios are too scared to properly tell a story in Souls-like games. Possibly in order to copy Fromsoftware's formula. Trust me game devs, the success of FromSoft games doesn't come from lore-based stories. Tell us your stories with cutscenes, please. Yes, there are cutscenes in Lies of P but it really isn't enough. I am sick of being expected to learn a game's story by notes and item descriptions. Enemies in the game have way too much health, and they don't react much when you hit them. Boss battles are especially tough because they have many phases, sometimes too many. When making a game like Souls, it's important to learn from From Software's lessons about making tough but fair fights. I am okay with linear games that don't waste the player's time with repetitive content, but some exploration wouldn't hurt. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3230243674 The mechanics are kinda confusing. Because i can't understand for sure if this game is trying to be Sekiro, Bloodborne, or Dark Souls. Lies of P has mechanics implemented from all of them, like perfect parrying, but unfortunately, this mechanic neither works well nor feels accurate in this game as Sekiro did. Aggressive Bloodborne playing doesn't work as well, because of enemies' input reading, not getting staggering, or having extremely high health after some point of the game. This is a parry game like Sekiro, so Bloodborne game style is not an option honestly. Dashing out of an attack is also a crucial mechanic that you have to use because you can't parry every attack, in your first playthrough at least. This could be different with speedrunners though. But dashing doesn't feel or play right, even after you upgrade dashing, which shouldn't be a thing in the beginning. Some bosses feel very badly designed to fight with these mechanics. Also, some attacks are very poorly telegraphed, making receiving a hit inevitable. Even though I played the game with heavy weapons. Some enemies refused to get staggered. Which doesn't make sense since I am taking a risk with landing many long timed charged attacks. The prosthetic arms are pretty much useless, even though I upgraded and scaled them to their fullest and tried many of them. There are countless aspects to review while talking about a Souls-like game that would exceed Steam's character limit. All in all, even though I had fun until chapter 8, after that it was extremely repetitive and rushed. The combat is severely problematic, the game tries to be 3 games at once and doesn't succeed in any of them. Lies of P is not a bad game, but it's not even close to the Fromsoft games many people say. It's just above the Steelrising/Thymesia tier for me. Despite being an okay game, I am not generous with my recommendations and I have high standards in games. If I don't feel 100% confident with a game, I just won't recommend it. Maybe grab it on a sale, above 50%. ❤️ Lots of kisses and thanks to my dear brother SNUP DUG for gifting me this game ❤️ BRONZE MEDAL Follow My Curator Page ❤️Show moreShow less

It seems everyone is singing praises for this game, as if it's the second coming of Miyazaki. However, I cannot in good faith recommend it in its current state. Initially, I was enamored with it, but my appreciation quickly waned as I progressed. Mechanically and in terms of design, there are several issues with the game. Fans claim it’s a love letter to the Souls genre, but it lacks the essence of Souls games. Fromsoft's Soulsborne series, along with Sekiro and Elden Ring, offer challenging experiences that provide myriad ways to conquer challenges. This game does not really do that. So often in this game you feel like you are shoehorned into a situation and the game does not provide the means for you to solve it other than banging your head against the wall that the game built for you. I think some of the design are seriously flawed in this game, like Dark Souls 2, it's an immitation of the essence of Souls game but missed some major marks. Mechanics - Firstly, I feel like the devs cannot decide if they want this game to be more Bloodborne/Sekiro or Dark Souls or both. The character P is neither agile enough nor strong enough for either playstyle. Enemies frequently outpace and overpower P, making encounters unbalanced. P's perfect parry window is exceedingly tight, and some of the bosses' combo has an interval of like 0.5 seconds. Unless you have perfectly memorized the bosses' movesets, I don't know how you are really supposed to perfect parry them. Enemies also do not react to being perfect parried, they do not cancel their combo, they do not get staggered, making this mechanic extremely unsatisfying and unrewarding. Often times in elite/boss fight, you feel like your character is no where as strong as the ginormous enemies but no where as fast either. P cannot raise up his weapon fast enough to parry a lot of the time due to recovery frames on so many of his action. What's worse is that P has no poise, or hyperarmor. Poise is simply not a stats in the game, no amount of gear or any weapon changes that. So P with no poise and cannot dodge/block fast enough resulting you just often get combo'd to death in a corner by a ramnpaging boss or stunlocked to death on the ground (more on this later). Second of all, weapon design. I played through the game using a strength build, I started with heavy weapon and let me tell you, the heavy weapons in this game are pathetic and woefully ineffective. Heavy weapons in Dark Souls are some of the fan's favorite. They are slow and cumbersome but they have long ranges, very high damage, and very high poise damage, so as long as you know what you are doing, you can keep the enemies at bay by killing them at range or stagger/stun them. However, the heavy weapon's reach in this game is laughable and their attacks are so slow with super long recovery frames that stop you from dodging or guarding. What's worse is that for some reason the geniuses at NEOWIZ made it so even when you "stance break" an enemy, you have to do a fully charged heavy attack or fable attack(they are just as long to cast) to be able to do a fatal/visceral/execution attack. Enemies also does not react to being "stance broken" whatsoever, they will continue their relentless combo and overlong delayed attack combos. Perfect parry was hard enough already, this just makes it all the more unrewarding. Especially good luck doing it with the pipe wrench becase the charging heavy is a two-hit combo and the first hit doesn't count, only landing the second hit allows for the visceral attack. Well, it also wouldn't be so so bad if our ultra heavy and slow weapons have any amount of poise or hyperarmor so we can trade health for a visceral attack. No, your character has no poise or hyperarmor regardless of what weapon you use, so if you are almost done with your super long charging heavy attack and even the weakest of the trash mobs look at you the wrong way, you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I also don't understand why the game devs thinks that an vital information such as stance bar should be hidden, in Sekiro, the stance bar of both you and the enemies are clearly shown. Third of all, enemy design in general. Every enemy in this game has an ungodly amount of delayed attacks; pretty much every elite and boss enemy uses overly long 6-7 hit combo, spinning attack, "drunken master" style delayed attack combo that is really really poorly telegraphed. Some of the grab and slam attack also look too similar. Almost every non-grunt enemies also have furious (perilous) attack that you cannot dodge (unless you want to wear a 21 weight late game amulet) but only perfect parry. Most of the regular elite enemies that you encounter throughout exploration are so so so tanky and do so much damage. When I think of an elite enemy I think of Black Knights or Chained Ogre. However, for the elite enemies in this game, if they had a little bit more health they might as well be regular bosses. Most of the enemies are also so very aggressive that they leave you with little window to punish. Like they would repeat their 5-hit combo three times immediately one after another. Coupled with the fact that even if you "stance break" them with perfect parry, you still cannot punish them because, again, you need to land a charged heavy. The camera angle is seriously awful a lot of the times too, a lot of the enemies are so much bigger than you and have so many overhead attacks, the overhead attacks already barely gives out any visual cues to begin with and coupled with the close-up camera angle it's just so hard to dodge/parry them. For example(Late Game Boss Spoiler) Bosses, I always look forward to fighting bosses in Dark Souls but I absolutely dread fighting bosses in this game. All bosses in this game bar two are either multi-healthbar bosses with multiple phases per healthbar or absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gank fights. It's not just difficult, it's "exhausting" and "annoying". Especially the gank fight, I'm not getting into the Dark Souls 2 debate again on why both design wise and mechanically Artorias and Gael are some fo the best bosses and are "what the game is vessel for". Combo'd with P's relatively slow movement, honestly half the boss fight reminds of Malenia, like my character is in the wrong game. For people care enough to read the full review or for people asking why I’m trying to compare it to dark souls: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1627720/discussions/0/5966762781877316304/ Why compare? The game directly copies animation, UI, and encounters from DS/BB. It's clear the game is inspired by Fromsoft. Read the full review and you can see the game is trying so hard to be DS. lol so many of these people have less than 5 hours in the game, how about you beat the game then come back to me? Also, most bosses took less than 5 tries but doesn't mean they were rewarding or enjoyable. Two-health bar should be an occasional surprise, not something expected. You can tell a boss has a second healthbar because the first one is just too easy.Show moreShow less
