I've been looking for days...weeks..months if not years for a new experience. Something that makes me feel something. Something that moves me. Something potentially horrific but not sexual. Something beautiful as it is depressing. This is the best game I've played in more years than I can remember. The ending left me staring at my screen, drinking in the music and utterly frozen. This story is as relatable as it is inhuman. It tethers the imagination to the ground with such force that it knocks the air out of your lungs. It is so immeasurably fun as well from a combat RPG perspective. This is for people who love HP lovecraft and unknowing horror but despise pointless nudity and sexual assault. You learn to love the people you meet. Genuinely from the disfigured, to the broken, to the confused and to the recovering. I could list some cons as well but I just finished the game and I refuse to. I haven't finished a game in a very long time but I did not stop until this was finished. I felt I had a responsibility to see it through. What a soundtrack this game has. What a soundtrack. Buy it. Buy it twice. This very well might be one of my favorite video game experiences I've ever had and for many of us who find ourselves inside too much, wishing we had friends as messed up as we are, all afraid of a confusing distorted world outside the window...This is the game you should play. My god what a game.Show moreShow less
I really wanted to like this game. On paper, it should be a game that I love. I love difficult games, horror games, RPGs, but this one just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe it’s because having only one save point incentivized me to constantly back track to the apartment so I didn’t lose progress. Maybe it’s because losing progress meant breaking immersion. Sometimes even making me have to redo decisions and giving me an easy out whenever I made a bad one. Maybe it’s because having to redo large parts of the story made me realize I wasn’t as invested as I first thought, especially after having to redo anything tedious. Maybe it’s because combat can go south too fast and too often, seemingly at random, preventing me from experimenting against enemies without reloading a save and having to run all the way back from the apartment. And sure, maybe easy mode would fix my problem, but easy mode also removes so many of the survival horror elements that made me want to pick the game up in the first place. I don’t know. I can’t even say it’s a bad game. If you love rpgs that are heavy on trial and error and don’t mind backtracking often you’ll probably love it. For me, it’s lacking proper balance to make it worth itShow moreShow less

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what to make of this game. It has fantastic visual and audio design, but it's just not particularly fun to play. I think the issue for me is that the game feels as though it can't quite decide if it's a survival horror game, a jRPG, or a roguelite/roguelike. And so there's a mishmash of elements of all three that don't always mesh particularly well. It's nigh impossible when playing blind to tell if any particular encounter is in or out of depth relative to your level. Which leads to frequent situations where I'm not sure if I should be fleeing or grinding or trying something differently. There is an XP and leveling system and you are frequently encouraged to save, which is frustrating because the game ALSO seems to expect that you're going to die a lot -- leaving to frustrating situations where you can potentially lose a lot of progress after being out grinding or exploring for an extended period. There are elements of randomness and a large amount of anciliary stats like hunger, hygiene, and so forth, but no convenient way of checking these and having to rely on diagetic messaging that informs you when one of these stats needs attention. In all, it leaves me feeling like the game is impossible to play without a wiki opened in another window, and that ruins a lot of the horror element because it takes one out of the game. I really -want- to like this game a lot more than I actually am, because it's a treat to just look at and listen to.Show moreShow less
it's like fear and hunger, except it's fun and not a chore to playShow moreShow less
It's good in a frustrating way. Some see it as a kind of Baldur's Gate 3 with having a lot of ways to solve problems and lots of hidden routes. But in most cases the outcome is really bad with no obvious options unless you save-scum and spend a lot of time for trial and error or google. An example. You enter an apartment, start investigating the closest room, there you speak with elder brother that tells you about his family and then immediately attacks you and you kill him. In the next room there is a teddy bear and a younger brother that don't react to you, you can try to speak to him but he ignores you, you can't use teddy bear, the only option is to take one of his toys hoping to try to play with him but he attacks and you kill him. How to do it right: go to farther room, take teddy bear, only then speak with elder brother and when he goes crazy and decides to attack, comfort him with teddy bear that reminds him of his brother, then he joins your party which is a really strong boost. Then you can fight toy soldier hell knows where, speak with younger brother, if elder brother is with you he will provide you dialogue hints saving you a lot of attempts. So you need to make a lot of not obvious steps in a specific order, otherwise you miss huge rewards, miss content, and feel like you kill people whom you could help. And this requires knowledge that is quite hard to collect in-game, what's worse the game is usually against you in collecting that knowledge. Another example. There is a chase sequence. Scary music, huge monster chasing you, obstacles on your way that are hard to dodge so it is likely he will get to you and start fight. And just few minutes ago you were taught that you can escape combat but it's unlikely to succeed on first rounds. So monster hits you hard and then you escape. Maybe load to escape before he reaches you to preserve a lot of health. Wrong. You need to know that monster is weak to a specific damage type, equip corresponding weapon before chase sequence and fight to unlock an ally or trader or whatever huge bonus. When the game explicitly tells you to run just ignore it and spend dozen attempts at fighting the game. Totally frustrating, absolutely not my typeShow moreShow less
Easily one of the best "Survival Horror RPG's" Ever Made Pro's: - Some of the best sprite work in the business - Very well thought out & unique creature designs - Very haunting atmospheric soundtrack & low key bangers as well (Very Dilbert 2 coded) - Highly re-playable due to choice based factors & many elements of luck based events - Colorful cast of playable characters, at least one you will LOVE - The Writing has an immense attention to detail when it comes to giving life to characters & events. (Major Pro) - World, Item, Character, Creature Design is 10/10 - Great sense of humour (as someone that doesn't laugh at many games I chucked at quite a few things) Con's: - Not on console (for now) - Game becomes quite easy once you fill up your party (No Hard mode or NG+ to combat this con) - Encountered many bugs (graphical & game breaking) throughout my playthrough - Many bosses just spam one attack & require no strategy to defeat - One area I felt was a complete vibe change & also went on far longer then every other area (military) Overall I think this game is around a 9/10. My con's can all be fixed with patches for the most part and in general they're mostly non issues besides the bugs.Show moreShow less
I wanted to like it, but it just gets annoying fast. The constant bs deaths, the time limit, all just adds to the irritation. Weapon durability is annoying here, like it always is in games. Fights are pretty imbalanced. Either easy, or you lose an hour of progress. No, I dont want to start over 13 times till I get good rng.Show moreShow less
Dear god yes. I found this treasure thanks to the ever inspiring ManlyBadassHero! I saw about 5 minutes of his video and bought it. This TREASURE TROVE of a game hasn't been able to leave my mind since I saw it, and now all I wanna do is explore every nook and cranny of it to find every... last... achievement. Thumbs Up! P.S: Look Outside. You won't coward.Show moreShow less
Cool art and setting, but bad game design in the following areas which make it tough to recommend: - The game design is highly punishing and requires tons of trial-and-error. - You have to return to your apartment to save. This combined with the first point leads to a frustrating experience where you will frequently lose 30+ minutes of play time. There's an easy setting that lets you save more often, but it includes other gameplay adjustments as well. - So far all of the party members I've found came from spoilers that I found in a guide, and there is zero chance I would have found them without the use of a guide.Show moreShow less
