"seemless coop" is a straight up lie match making kinda sucks, who ever isn't the host gets a loading screen anytime the host does ANYTHING, half the abilities in the game can only be done by the host, and only the host gets actual progression; coop partner doesn't get story progress, doesn't unlock check points, and does not gain any loot other than souls. non-host also cannot leave the host's world without quitting to the main menu lol. (Edit: This was incorrect, you quit via the multiplayer menu which is inside of a sub menu inside of a sub menu under settings) Edit: the coop partner also gains about 1/4th of the fortitude (souls) that the host does. Everything about the game's design is against being seamless, and seamless coop was the ENTIRE marketing tactic. I don't like being lied to. edit2: weeks later, literally 1,000s of bug fixes later, and the gmae is still crazy mid. some of the issues i had were addressed, but the game over all still just isn't very good, and despite "multiplayer fixes" basically daily since release, PvP is still straight up unplayable (can't even connect 90% of the time) and Co-Op is still barely functional.Show moreShow less
Please for the love of god download game ready drivers and tweak your settings, I know modern day gamers are coddled but god ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damn. Have we forgot how to fix technical issues? I have a GTX 1080, AMD Ryzen 3600 (3.6ghz), and 16gb DDR 4. Barely passable for a lot of people now a'days. But guess what? After 5 minutes of work the game runs at a smooth 60 with NO ISSUES! Stop review bombing and learn to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix ♥♥♥♥.Show moreShow less
"Seamless co-op" is misleading, it's only "seamless" in the sense that you don't get disconnected after clearing an area or killing a boss, but player world progress is still separate, the guest player (because that's what they are) can't pick up world items, open chests, or make any progress in that regard until they go back to play their own world, leading to the inevitable need to switch who's hosting frequently so you can both make meaningful, fun progression on your characters, which is a really outdated and annoying co-op system that isn't really "seamless" at all. Both of us also didn't realise this was the case until we were a ways into our first session, and past the refund window. We were so sure that this wouldn't be the case because of how stupid it is. Like there's no way this is how it works, right? Wrong. Also, you can't move away from the host without being teleported back to them, and for some god forsaken reason you have to actually walk over "Vigor" (Souls, EXP) to pick them up, it's not automatically deposited to your balance. So even if you could split up, you'd have to go retread your partner's footsteps to go and grab the EXP pickups they left for you when they killed enemies. (Edit: Half true, this is the case, but you can apparently use your lantern to vacuum them up from a distance. Still annoying either way) Co-op was the main draw for me, and as it is currently it's an extremely anti-co-op system. They've even since edited the main description for co-op here on the Steam page, as you can see from this Imjur link: https://imgur.com/a/9AtRhXx I actually had to go back through my Discord channel to find the "before" screenshot, felt like I was being gaslit when I saw how it was changed. Regardless, it's good that they've updated it so that people know what they're getting before they jump in, because I sure as ♥♥♥♥ didn't, even if I probably should've suspected it, looking back, and having played the games this was inspired by. I guess I just didn't think they'd still use the same terrible co-op system, and advertise the co-op as a selling point. Fromsoft games get away with it because you know it's bad going in, but I thought this might've been more like Remnant 2, or even Nioh 2, which have superb co-op despite their obvious inspiration. (Edit: Also see Elden Ring's seamless co-op mod) At this point, I'm either waiting for them to patch it to have proper co-op or for modders to do it, not sure I'll be interested enough to play it on my own when I mainly bought it to play with my brother. - Edit: Juuuuuuuust gonna pop these here: https://imgur.com/a/3cbosvh https://steamcommunity.com/app/1501750/discussions/0/3730700312409357486/ https://youtu.be/ceoHCHghGxY?si=j2BNHQ6RafnwLmHz&t=771 Skip to 12:51, if Steam's embed borks the timestamp. - - - - - - - - Edit: 22/10/23: Looks like Vestiges/checkpoints get removed on NG+, forcing you to use the Vestige seeds and the hub for travel only. I haven't experienced this yet obviously but it's worth keeping in mind if it's not your jam. To me it just seems like it would make backtracking needlessly painful. Edit: 23/10/23 As of patch v.1.1.224, this is more gradual, with fewer vestiges removed on successive NG+ cycles. You also have the option to reroll your game without increasing difficulty or removing vestiges, if you just wanna go through it again for different endings/achievements.Show moreShow less
This game is one of the reasons I say you can't trust Steam Reviews anymore. This game is actually great. Most of the negative steam reviews are just people complaining about performance issues. Which I had none after I tweaked settings and turned off Ray Tracing. In my opinion, a lot of people want to be seen as PC Gamers, but don't want to deal with PC gamer quirks like "Messing with settings" or "upgrading your PC." If you can't update your drivers and do some basic troubleshooting, you need to get yourself an Xbox or Playstation. Unironically, this game is scratching an itch. Multiple playstyles centered around dodging, spellcasting, parrying, and build variety. Boss fights are fun and creative. The world is beautiful. But I think the best part was when I was running around a new area exploring. You have a lamp that lets you peer into the "Umbral Realm" which is just the stage you're in but spooky. So as I run around I use it to look for puzzles or hidden pathways. I pop it out and see an enemy in the Umbral realm swing at me. I immediately put my lantern down because normally they can't attack you through realms, but I panicked. I let my guard down. Seconds later, I'm pulled forcefully into the Umbral Realm and am ambushed by these creatures. I fight back, kill them, and see 5 more on their way to get me. So I panic again and run up to the nearest new pathway revealed by the Umbral realm and manage to escape as the enemies nip at my heels. This game gives me that old Dark Souls one feeling. Where you're treading new ground, exploring, and doing your best to survive in a world that wants you dead. And I've missed that feeling after so many soulslikes over the years.Show moreShow less
Ok, I bought the game to play it with a friend, since it was mainly advertised as a souls-like game with a campaign playable in ko-op. --------- That's the reason why the review of mine is negative, to the game itself (in single player-mode) I will talk about at the bottom of my review. (Edit) --------- But here's the thing I'm very disapointed about: When you play the game with a friend, only the host can interact with npc's, pick up items or trade with the traders, but the "guest-player" can't do any of these actions and the icing of the cake is that he only gets a third of the souls and he can't respawn in the Umbral. So basically it's a single player game with someone who just follows the host and does near to nothing. To be honest, the game itself looks quite good (If you ignore the performance problems) and I will probably play it by myself, but if you were looking forward to play it with a friend I can't recommend it. -------- Edit: So, I started playing the game alone now and I have to say I'm impressed how the aesthetic of the game and the boss design looks. Gameplay-wise I would say it's pretty beginner-friendly, since I have never played a souls-like game before. And the Soundtrack is suitable and well produced. My conclusion, to this point in the game is that I really like the game, but I don't like how the ko-op mode is handled. I can really recommend the game to people who want to play the game in single player-mode and like games with an aesthetic which I would describe as dark fantasy. To the answer of the developer: I really appreciate the answer and your explanation, I may have formulated my review a bit harsh. To the people who tried to insult me for my review before the edit: I tried my best to give a review to people who looked forward in playing a game in ko-op mode and I'm by far not the only one who mentioned these points and it's still my opinion, if you don't agree with it, just downvote it, no need to be rude.Show moreShow less
Amazing how the people behind this game listen to the community! I already enjoyed the game when it launched, even though it was obviously flawed in some regards. Over the last 2 years the game received numerous updates, and today I got recommended a video about update 2.0 launching, and it literally fixed EVERY SINGLE FLAW the game had. And even though I already own the game I really respect the game being on a 67% discount for 2 weeks right after the update drops, instead of making people pay the standard price of 60€ for it after upgrading its value this much. I really hope this game will receive the love it deserves!Show moreShow less
I'm trying so hard to like this game. I love my Soulslikes. I just can't really mesh with this one. It isn't the performance - it's the combat. It feels slow and clunky. It's reminiscent of Mortal Shell that way, if you need a comparison. It's not awful, but I can't currently recommend it. I'm just not having fun. I'll keep trying and amend my review if my opinion changes, but currently, combat feels like wading through molasses. Some further thoughts: The game is determined to throw as much crud at you as possible. Wave after wave of crud, topped with archers and spellcasters you need to fight on narrow platforms. Unlike other Soulslikes where most of the enemies are out in the open and you get an occasional 'gotcha,' in this game, the mobs play hide and seek a lot. You end up expecting them behind crates, taking a snooze and untargetable, or up on a high ledge taking potshots while you fight a small army of tiny crudlings. This just feels cheap and annoying, like fighting off waves of rabid Yorkshire terriers while Legolas is chilling in the back. This isn't what makes Soulslikes enjoyable to play. Your dodge roll is a little too long, too, so enjoy the scenery on the way to your inevitable falling death when you get to the 'jumping puzzle' bits. Jumping can only be done when sprinting, but it's not hold space to sprint and tap to jump. It's press V to toggle sprint and then F to jump, all while using WASD. That's not awkward, is it? The seed mechanic for temporary bonfires - I don't know why this is a thing. It doesn't add anything to the game except frustration when you reach a potential checkpoint and don't have any. To make matters worse, some are just pointless to use a seed on - but you don't know that until you literally turn a corner and a permanent bonfire is right in front of you. Why, just why? I think this mechanic needs to be ditched, or seeds need to be much more common. I start off by trying to explore an area and whomp everything, but inevitably I end up running through an area, hoping I don't get invaded by a Cheeto-dusted troll looking to capitalise on me sprinting like a lunatic from endless swarms of sheet just to find the next actual checkpoint. Most of the difficulty in this game comes from a combination of feeling like you're fighting overencumbered in a Souls title(when you're not), coupled with getting mobbed by crudlings. Lords of the Clunky Crudlings. 6.5/10. Not awful, not great either.Show moreShow less
Giving this a positive review because it's genuinely great but also because of how fast the devs are pumping out patches fixing the issues many are plagued with which is unheard of for modern gaming.Show moreShow less
Imagine if you had your standard average soulslike game, you added one very unique and cool mechanic to it, and then you took the worst aspects of every game in the soulsborn franchise and added them all to this game and made them worse somehow, that's lords of the fallen. Loved DS1's multiplayer system where trying to summon a friend is like winning the lottery? Brought that back, Same PVP DS1 had as well. Loved having random respawning trash mobs that are stronger then bosses from DS2? Well good news because they liked that concept as well, so they added quite a few of them every 5 minutes. Because who doesnt love fighting miniboss level enemies that take 30 hits to kill and can do 75% of your health in one hit that drop nothing and will respawn. Loved 20 minutes of gameplay without a bonfire? Well you're really going to enjoy they implemented that feature as well. Huge fan of the jump puzzles from every souls game in which either you're pixel perfect with your jump or you die? Well this game has that to, except now they arent optional and your character will now roll after you land the jump about 10 feet forward often throwing you right off the platform you landed on. Loved long walks back to bosses after dying? Got that to, and even though they implemented a solution it for some reason costs a consumable item to activate and i actually cannot think of a single reason why it would be done like that besides to inconvienience the player. Big fan of the "You died" screen? This game doesn't say that, but instead it takes 15 seconds after you die for the game to finally allow you to go to the loading screen and start reloading the area. Loved the capra demon from DS1 where the only challenge was killing the dogs? You'll really love the second boss of this game where they made the capra demon ranged and quite a bit more then 2 dogs, oh and they take about 8 hits to kill and do half your health if they hit you a single time. Love Boss fights essentially requiring you to die because the boss has an attack that kills you in 1 hit and the only way to dodge it is by knowing its coming like waterfowl dance from elden ring? Yep plenty of that as well. Loved having to run through respawned trash mobs in order to get to the boss door again? That feature is here too, except the trash mobs will literally never stop chasing you until you either kill them or die. Loved random enemies taking your souls and requiring you to kill them to get them back like in bloodborn? You'll sure love it here when they go to the enemy that actually killed you, and that enemy can be a ranged enemy in a location you literally cannot get to and you lose all your souls as result. Loved dodging spell casters and arrows, Got that too except there is seemingly no range limit on magic in this game for npcs, and since they never de-aggro they will shoot homing magic across the entire map that will deal half your health. Loved jarring difficulty leaps in mob strength? Its even better here because now when you go the wrong way and aggro them, you just have to die because they will follow you forever. Oh and if they kill you they take your souls, and good luck getting them back when you're doing 1/80th of their health and them even lightly breathing on you will kill you from full health.Show moreShow less
