I mean, come on. 30 fps? Update: first crash within less than 20 minutes of play. Let's see if it gets worse. Update 2: I've had five crashes in my 40 minutes of play, I'll stop playing the game until a patch comes out. Although I really enjoy the tone and the general direction the game seems to be going, I cannot reconmmend the game at its current state. Update 3: The dev came out and confirms that they knowingly launched the game with the 30 cap, for reasons I can only infer from their statements were due to consoles' limitations. To me, that is no excuse. They say that they know "how important having options...and frames [are]", blah blah blah. It's not like they just announced PC version yesterday. If the dev made a mess, I'll call it what it is. P.S. for people whose arguments are: "The game isn't even out in most countries", therefore the game is somehow not launched and the problems that I'm presenting are somehow invalidated? No. If it is launched in even just one country, then it is launched. If the game is broken in one country, the game is broken, and it shall be rightfully criticized by the customers of that region. I really enjoy the game. Have played thru it numerous times. Just started back thru it again. I am probably one of the oldest PC gamers still gaming at seventy two years young. If anyone is older I would like to hear about your gaming experience. Have been a gamer since the beginning of gaming...LOLShow moreShow less
Lock on 30 FPS is a incredible thing in this year, especially to 2K ,you've got to be kidding me!Low textures,no SLI support, and if you use the resolution ratio over 1920x1080 ,the game will be crushed, just wait for the patch or the game ready driver. At this time,I don't recommand this game, this time, yeah, keep your eyes open.Show moreShow less
Taking the Mafia franchise into a new setting in the South of the United States has allowed the developers to create a great envrionment to play in. The New Orleans stand-in (New Boudaux) gives us a great mix of rural and urban locales to drive around and play in. The new setting also means the story can be written differently to the previous games in the franchise (and genre too) which go for the tropes of all the classic mafia films like The Godfather or Goodfellas, this setting is new for the genre. Compared to Mafia II, the world is very much alive and the game is truly an open world game, where you can enter many buildings (without loading screens) and walk/drive freely, sure, it is linear for the opening act of the game, introducing players to all the characters and mechanics but after an a few hours the game opens up and allows you to explore the map. The game runs smoothly, I've only noticed two instances of AI bugging out for a minute, right after a transition from a cutscene to gameplay. There is a bit of stuttering for a few seconds after alt-tabbing back into the game but that clears up quite quickly. The best thing about the game so far is the soundtrack, they've managed to pair songs to the storyline in a meaningful way, yet also have great classics come on the radio when you're driving around. Nothing beats cruising the streets of New Bourdaux than some Elvis, Rolling Stones and CCR coming out your speakers. Fans of the first two games will be pleased to know the mob story is still core to the game, despite not being the typical italian mob setting, the characters, twists, and turns have met and exceeded the themes of the predecessors. But the moment Paint It Black comes out of your speakers early on in the game... you know you're in for a good ride. Edit: Seems others are complaing about the 30fps lock, I'd wait for the patch before calling this one 'the worst game'. A new studio working on their first game, this is a solid effort. No doubt things will only improve, give them more than 6 hours though.Show moreShow less
***Please note this is purely my opinion, you are free to disagree with me but keep it civil. Abusive comments and personal attacks will be deleted.*** Pros: + Excellent cutscenes + Excellent story + Good music selection + Weapons sound realistic and meaty + Setting the driving to simulation feels really good Cons: - Repetitive missions (Go here, kill/destroy something, come back, repeat!) - Poorly optimized - Muddy, grainy textures (Looks like upscaled 720p textures) - Clunky mouse and keyboard controls - Can't rebind keys to extra mouse buttons - Can't jump! - When using the mouse to look around while driving it constantly resets itself to the default position - Moving around cover isn't as smooth and easy when compared to other cover based shooters - Multiple crashes to desktop Verdict: An excellent story hampered by some performance issues along with questionable and annoying design decisions. If you are willing and able to overlook the many small issues then I urge you to at least try it for yourself because the game is definitely not terrible but for me personally I wouldn't recommend it... Not at full price anyway. I would hold off buying it for for now. Wait for a sale as there are too many annoying issues bringing down what could potentially be a really great game. If I had to give it a rating I'd score it a 6.5 out of 10 (slightly above average) ***UPDATE*** A patch has been announced which should come out on the weekend. So long as it corrects many of the minor issues you can expect this review to change... Fingers crossed. ***UPDATE 2*** After spending a little more time with the game (went over 2 hours... woops!) I have edited some of the pros and cons and adjusted my score upwards slightly, If the coming patch adresses things like frame rate, textures and keybinds I will adjust it higher again and possibly reccomend the game. ***UPDATE 3*** A patch has been released that corrects the 30 fps lock and the game feels a lot smoother and responsive, however all other issues listed still remain along with some weird graphical bugs like objects disappearing and what feels like more frequent crashes which weren't present before... I have updated both my review and score a second time and this will likely be my final verdict and update.Show moreShow less
Enjoying it so far, that 30 FPS lock is pretty damn annoying though. Hopefully 2k will fix it. Soundtrack is great as expected, adds a really cool mood to the whole game. Story is solid, filled with interesting and unique characters. Excited to see what Vito will bring to the table once I get to that point. Combat is extremely enjoyable, which can be attritubed to the shear brutality each kill brings. Driving is quite good, although it's pretty annoying that the cars instantly skid once you turn. Still would of preferred a classic Italian mob story. Edit: 4 hours in and haven't experienced a crash like others claim. Playing on highest settings, no outstanding graphical errors besides a few small mishaps. Also, 2k announced they are working on unlocking the FPS so we can all stop whining about that now :) Edit 2: 11 hours in, first crash after driving into new area and spamming shift button to look behind.Show moreShow less
Would rather buy Winrar Edit: I would still rather buy Winrar.Show moreShow less
The first thing I want to inform people that this launch of the game was literally the most toxic and cancerous start I have experienced. Many people were so repetetive and toxic towards the game that in this century Hitler wouldn't be the the most hated person in the world. , it would be the Mafia 3 game and the community (people with negative reviews) who would be hated by the majority of the population. ---------------------- Pros: + I am able to run on my low GPU + Soundtrack is literally on point with the game. + Great car sounds and sort of drifting with it. + Really fun to just drive around and get called '' Ni**er and black sh-it '' from the '' COLOURED '' people in the street. ----- Cons: - Mafia's 3 community is total cancer talking with. - Need some fixed with glitching. - More optimization. ------------------------------------ This game is has it's own problems (which there isn't a lot only that people are toxic over 30fps lock) is a great game to play with and enjoy the 1960s and experienced the racism from the Black Mans perspective. If 2k would update it's game within a week with more fixes and some FPS , I really want to think and hope that the reviews received on this game would change into the good side. Most people are only repeating the same thing over and over and can't accept how beautiful the game is and the sound is amazing and fits the 1960s theme. ---- Also I have pre-ordered this game 5 months ago and I'm really enjoying it even if it has problems. Was hyped over the months and I don't regret a single thing. Now I bet some kids will come and start commenting some nonsense about the game and this review , if you intending of doing it please don't because I will report your comment , thanks toxic community :). ----------------------------- Actually I would prefer reading YouTube Mafia 3 launch trailer comments because they aren't so toxic and can people can actually understand each other not like here ------------- It's the truth really. Accept the reality.Show moreShow less
horrible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, a system of "go kill this dude, ta da!" in a storyline that boils down to a "one man army takes over da mafia woo!!!!!" nothing to do with the original 2 mafia games (which are MUCH better, don't think they're as bad as this), nor the same charm, gameplay, or anything good about them. You'd be better off burning money than buying this ♥♥♥♥.Show moreShow less
