Marathon (Based on the Server Slam) Updated Gunplay is good, Every gun feels like a Bungie gun, you can just tell it's Bungie DNA. Art direction is also genuinely sick (subjectively, I'm just tired of EFT clones), the environments look unlike anything else right now and the audio slaps too. Oh and install size is only 18GB, which is honestly refreshing in 2026. The Bad The UI is still a mess at launch. Not "needs polish" terrible, items look the same, you're reading tooltips mid fight, swapping attachments is clunky and eats bag space. People with 30 hours still complain about it. That's not a learning curve issue. And yeah, the monetization is already shady on day one, a skin costs 1,120 premium currency but the smallest bundle only gives you 1,100. Come on. Fixed Solo play is rough. The game is clearly built around a coordinated trio. If you're running solo or filling with randoms, expect to get farmed sometimes, or third partied while you're low. The battlepass feels thin for what you're paying, and charms are limited to one weapon per copy which is just weird. Bottom Line Real talk though, the pattern from the Server Slam carried over to launch. Put in the hours and it clicks hard. Bounce off early and you'll think it's mid. Whether that's worth $40 is still on you. The game isn't bad, it just makes a terrible first impression for some.Show moreShow less
Don't buy this game if you are on Linux. It starts but doesn't connect to game servers because of BattleEye. Bungie could have enables the proton use in BattleEye but they decided not to which implies a conscious decision against Linux users. Don't rewards those anticonsumer practices.Show moreShow less
Good so far. Don't ♥♥♥♥ it up, Bungie. And keep whoever handles seasonal content models for D2 as far from this game as possible.Show moreShow less
The cosmetics all cost 1500 premium currency. You can only buy 1000+100 bonus and another pack of 500 to get enough to buy it, or over pay for the 2200 currency pack. Good job bungie with your non-cancer monetization policys.Show moreShow less
solo queue is basically a horror game, just play with no expectations and you'll be surprised just how addicting it gets once you get the ball rolling.Show moreShow less
I played the game for a little bit and liked it, but I recently moved to Linux as my main OS and can no longer play the game due to anti-cheat restrictions. I reserve my Windows partition for work. Please enable Linux support for BattlEye. Steam has a BattlEye client for Proton that other games support. This would also let people play Marathon on the Steam Deck and Steam Machine.Show moreShow less
Fun game. Can't wait for the PVE experimental mode, so I don't always have to be on the verge of a heart attack.Show moreShow less
Linux is actively blocked You won't be told this because "Steam Deck Unsupported" means nothing on the Steam store. The vast majority of games marked "Unsupported" can be played just fine. There are thousands of "Unsupported" games on Steam that run perfectly fine on Linux because of the amazing work from the WINE and Proton developers and contributors. Bungie are actively blocking Linux gamers from playing, currently they will display a warning saying "Marathon is not currently supported on the Steam Deck." after you install and launch the game. However you can only find this out after purchasing the game and running it. BattlEye is not an excuse Steam distributes a BattlEye Runtime that allows BE to plug into the Linux Kernel via Proton and work effectively as client-side anti cheat whilst plugging into server-side BE; Steam Store data entry for BattlEye Runtime Many BattlEye games work great on Linux in many games, this can be seen on this online database; areweanticheatyet search for BattlEye games BattlEye offers support to their developers on how to support Linux even if it isn't open information. To put BattlEye in your game you have to contact the BattlEye company; BattlEye Linux: A comprehensive guide Play other games instead This means that until Bungie change their mind for Marathon we have ARC Raiders available. The original Marathon games are supported by the amazing Aleph One team who make Maraton 1, 2, and Infinite available even on Steam for Linux, MacOS, and Microslop Winblows. Finally a game thats bold and confusing, lots of stuff to learn instead of just being held by your hand. Also art & music team, you deserve a raise!Show moreShow less
Bungie is ignoring a player base over a SINGLE TOGGLE SWITCH ON BATTLEYE. Battleye is fully supported on proton/linux but they refuse to enable it. If this is supposed to be Bungie's big comeback locking out an entire Linux desktop and Steam deck community is a massive error here. You're leaving money and a player count on the table for zero technical reason. This is a policy issue not a platform port issue. And yes I waited in the main menu to even post this ridiculous review of unsupported OS in 2026. I did watch my friend play it the game looks really fun.Show moreShow less
