Game is great and probably the best SINGLEPLAYER Game in 2021. But it needs a internet connection (DRM) to run, without you can not play a SINGLEPLAYER Game. So since yesterday we all could not start the game as the servers are down 48h... Can´t recommend it with this internet DRM bs.Show moreShow less
This is what Marvel's Avengers should have been.Show moreShow less
Pros: Entertaining plot with good banter between the characters Excellent voice acting Great soundtrack if you enjoy 80s rock Graphics and animations look good with a few minor exceptions Cons: Combat mechanics and movement feel slow and can be frustrating Non-combat gameplay/exploration is on rails, platforming/jumping often feels like you're stuck in mud Bullet sponge enemies Game froze up on me several times requiring force-closing the app + reload from the last checkpoint Over-use of quicktime events Overall, good story-telling held back by mediocre gameplay. 6/10Show moreShow less
Feels like an extremely polished release, nothing like Marvel's Avengers got. This is the real deal here, no need to wait for months until things get fixed. Just jump right in and you'll get your money's worth. No co-op of course, it's a singleplayer game. Edit: Seems my optimism was way premature, the game does have difficulty running with GPU's of recommended spec & lower. I recommend you have at least GTX 1080 or newer for the game, preferably something newer. My RX6800 runs it just fine when I have the proper drivers for it. Also since a lot of people are struggling with the QTE's in the game, these can just be switched off entirely in the accessibility options of the game. I did that for myself too since I'm a bit impaired and not good with these things.Show moreShow less
When this game was first announced, I was hesitant about how good it could possibly be. Especially after Avengers from Square recently. But then a few days before release, I saw all the glowing reviews not only from a bunch of review sites but also YouTubers I trust like SkillUp and ACG. So I bought it at launch. I do think most of the comments SkillUp made in his video are pretty accurate. I just didn't realize how much some of the negatives would bother me. First off, there are a few bugs I've encounters that, if fixed, could drastically improve my feelings about this game. The two big ones are a lot of texture pop in and input issues. The input issues are what I want to focus on here. I play all my PC games besides FPS games and anything better with a mouse (e.g. strategy games) with an Xbox Elite Controller V2. It works flawlessly on every other game I've used it with that has controller support (both on Steam and other platforms). But here, the controller *works* fine but the game randomly decides it's a different controller constantly. Sometimes it will correctly be an Xbox controller. Other times it will be a DualShock/DualSense. And other times still, it will be recognized as a Switch Pro controller. This changes the in-game button glyphs which makes things like QTEs and other combo button prompts difficult to accomplish since all three of those controllers have the X button in different places, for example. Beyond those bugs (which I hope get patched soon), the game isn't awful. The story, writing, voice acting, facial animations, and detail in every environment you visit are incredible. The reflections are great - especially with ray tracing on. And the game isn't super demanding. I was able to run it at 1440p on my 2080 (latest Nvidia drivers) on nearly all High settings with ray tracing on High and DLSS on Quality getting 70-80 fps on average. That said, the combat kind of sucks. You can't control any of the Guardians besides Starlord - which would be fine except Star Lord's guns do almost no damage. They feel like pea shooters. You can issue commands to do special attacks by your teammates but those are on cool downs after you use them once. The combat is serviceable but it's pretty boring. I was always looking forward to the next story bit or even just exploring the map of each mission looking for hidden chests and resources more than I was looking forward to combat. And the set pieces (usually accompanied by QTEs) are awful. Get the QTEs right or die and start at a checkpoint right before that QTE. Sometimes the areas you have to jump off or to before the QTE kicks in aren't clearly defined and if you get it off by enough you just die. Ultimately, if this game's story, acting, and writing weren't so good, I'd have quit playing hours ago. And for now, I might shelve it until there's a patch addressing the input issue and pop in I've seen. The game is not a disaster, but I'd recommend waiting for a patch or two and/or a sale.Show moreShow less

1. Really cool graphics and decorations with amazing optimizations. 2. Marvel-like story: not great, not terrible. 3. And extremely booooring combat system. All enemies are the same. Whole battles consist mostly from holding fire button. Guardians abilities mostly the same. For example, abilities of Drax: target stun, round AOE stun, AOE stun along straight line, ultimate stun with cool animation. This combat system steals aproximatelly 8 hours of your life in 20 hours of game. 4. No way back on locations. if you see several passages and want to explore them all, you may accidentally enter the story one and trigger a cutscene. The game will cut off the way back, and then the other passages will be closed to you. 5. Lot of bugs with sounds: characters interrupt their phrases in random moments.Show moreShow less
This is exactly what a Guardians of the Galaxy - and, frankly, a Marvel - game should be. Linear in structure and yet feels modern in design - it feels like if Mass Effect were reimagined in 2021 and stripped of its RPG elements, every single design decision based around "is this fun?". In 2021, a game being wholly linear, no side quests, no open world, somehow feels like a brave decision. It feels like a throwback to 10-15 years ago. But it feels like a breath of fresh air with so many expansive open worlds to explore for a game to limit itself like that. Just because you can't *literally* get lost in this world, doesn't mean it doesn't feel like you could. If anything, the writing and world-building is all the stronger for not being able to rely on that. Graphically, it looks great, the cinematography and animations are excellent (as ever from Eidos/Crystal) and it runs well - around 100-120 FPS at max on a system hitting the recommended requirements. And it's super stable so far, unlike the Avengers game which seems to crash every 20 minutes for me. For me the standout feature, though, is the dialogue. As far as I can tell, it's fairly dynamic and conversations feel naturally interrupted by discoveries on your path. So many games you feel the need to stop in case you accidentally walk into a cutscene and never hear the end of a conversation - but it feels natural here, and characters might even pick up old conversations later on. I'm not sure I've come across that before, or at least not done so well. Dialogue choices are also clearly highlighted - so you know exactly what you're choosing to say. I have yet to finish the game, but so far (after 4 and a bit chapters) choices make some differences to events during chapters but don't seem to sway the direction of the overall narrative. Whether there are multiple endings is something I will have to remember to update here when I get there. But, to conclude, this is a great game. And even if you didn't like last year's Avengers game, I'd still give this a shot. There was a decent game desperately trying to shine through in the Avengers, but here it's all plain to see.Show moreShow less
Denuvo servers are down and I cannot play the game I purchased. I have never complained about DRM before even when it caused performance issues because generally that gets patched out. However, when a company requires online verification for a single player game and cannot maintain their servers for any reason, it is an failure of trust and performance. Unfortunately, this product gets a negative review for their DRM's neglect. The game has been enjoyable otherwise but probably should be purchased on another platform until Denuvo is removed.Show moreShow less
