Marvelᵀᴹ Spider-Man Remastered is a great looking game that has some serious flaws in its soulless gameplay loop. What I like about this game? + The game looks great and runs at constant 60fps on my i7-9700k and RTX 2070 on 1080p at max settings with RTX disabled. + Being a Spider-Man has been mastered by this game. You can tsip, whip and tsap on the roofs of New York with multiple mechanics with seamless transitions from web slinging to street swinging. + Animation work is great overall. There are lots of references to various classic Spider-Man poses and moves. + Voice acting in this game is extremely professional with lots of dialogue from various characters. John Jonah Jameson's radio show with the Alex Jones undertones and Dan Slott's comic inspiration is the highlight for me. + Writing on the script is a refreshing take on Spider-Man. It contains a lot of comic inspirations from classic stories to more modern Marvel and I like pretty much all of the characters. I especially like how classic Mary Jane Watson got combined with the character of Betty Brant on this version. A logical and good move in order to make her more relevant to the story and do meaningful stuff. + Spider-Man has lots of gadgets that are fun to use and look great. + There are lot of side missions and content, which is a plus but also a big minus when it comes to its quality. + There are lots of unlockables, if you like that kind of content. What I don't like about this game - The gameplay is extremely repetitive. Most of the missions consist of classic and boring open world game tropes; activating a radio tower or other static object, going from point A to point B, collecting items scattered across the game world, scripted chase scenes etc. There's nothing innovative in this game when it comes to its open world gameplay implementation, if you don't count the web-swinging. - The game world feels lifeless both in design and lore. There are lot of easter egg references to a more wide Marvel universe and its characters, but it's very MCU synergy limited. Nothing interesting also happens in the game world, as you keep encountering the same 5-6 crime activities with the same enemies. Pedestrians also do almost nothing and the streets are scarcely populated, though I blame this on PS4 hardware limitations. - Enemy variation in this game is very bad. There are 3 different kind of enemies (melee, gun, big tanky class) with minor sub-classes when it comes to their equipment (melee with object, sword, whip and shield. Gun with rifle, sniper and rocket). You encounter these same enemy types throughout the game with different skins. - Combat in this game gets boring fast, as it's way too forgiving after you've leveled up and gotten some good skills and perks. It is also way too simple and repetitive for longer play sessions. - The unavoidable stealth sections where you play as Mary Jane Watson or Miles Morales are some of the worst designed stealth sections I've played in any game. They're super linear and the AI on these parts is bad and immersion breaking, as they can't see or hear a person one meter in front of or behind them. The AI also gets very buggy at times on these sections. Worst of all, these parts break the action and even story flow of the game. - The constant mini-game bombardment. They're actually fun brain puzzles, but too much is too much and just adds bloat to the game and also breaks the story flow. - Web-swinging controls are smooth, but wall and ground based movement not that much. There's a bit of a momentum delay when it comes to movement, which makes it sometimes surprisingly hard to make precise actions like landing to a certain spot or simply getting off the ledge. - The game is a quick time event fest. Every cool thing that happens in the game from stopping cars to great cinematic moments are just quick time events. Even the boss battles in this game are glorified quick time events most of the time. I'd give Spider-Man 6/10 as a game experience and 8/10 if you're hardcore Spider-Man fan like me. The initial experience and first couple of hours can be fun, but the repetition in its gameplay gets too much after a while. I completed about 70% of the game until I had to question myself if I'm actually having fun with the game and if it's enough to play the game to the end. I'd recommend getting this game from a hefty sale.Show moreShow less

I, like many, have been looking forward to play Spider-man. But I'm actually quite disappointed. Yes, the game mechanics are good and yes the web swinging is great. But after a few hours the game is a bland, repetitive, fetch quest simulator. Go to icon... get thing... go to next icon... get thing... There is zero exploration and zero need to think for yourself. Eg: Peter Parker is standing at a locked door "Hmmm, I'll have to look around for another way in." Ding, there's a big icon over the air vent you need to crawl into to. "Hmmm, there must be another power box around here somewhere?" Ding, a big icon over the power box. "Hmmm, how do I open the door?" Ding, a big icon on the hidden switch. There isnt any self thought or exploration in this game. Its just go to icon, press button, go to next icon, press button. The only time you 'actually' have to look for something is when you use Black Cats camera to find one of her hidden plushy cat toys. But even then its within a very restricted field of view and, yep, there's a big white light highlighting where the toy is. FFS! Let me do something for myself! Its boring. If I didn't know better I would have thought this game was made by Ubisoft ten years ago. I'm really struggling to play through the game. I'm bored.Show moreShow less
Here's a little quality-of-life improvement tip to start your Spider-man game faster: 1. Go to your steam library. 2. Right click 'Marvel's Spider-man Remastered'. 3. Click 'Properties'. 4. On the first tab 'GENERAL', scroll to the bottom called 'LAUNCH OPTIONS'. 5. In the text box, type in "-nolauncher" without the " " quote. 6. Close the Properties box. The next time you launch your game, it will skip the launch menu and start the game right away. Cheers!Show moreShow less
I rarely write reviews, but this game having an overwhelmingly positive score is actually criminal. Even if you enjoy the first few hours of gameplay, the sheer repetitiveness should take you out of it before long. From copypasted completionist "quests", to fighting the same 3 goons hundreds of times, and every boss battle having you do the same move with the same animation over and over again until you defeat them, even in the final boss fight. All this while Spiderman spits out his 5 most hilarious quipps time and again over a grand total of ~20 hours of gameplay (All this for just 59,99€!). I honestly think this game would still be overpriced at 19,99€. Below average story. Horrendous immersion-breaking NPCs. Webslinging is fun for about an hour. Easiest combat you'll ever come across, even on the hardest difficulty. Sneak missions with MJ that will bore you to tears and can be speedrun on the first try. You would struggle to write less memorable villains, or characters in general. Everything this game does, the Batman arkham series did better 13 years ago.Show moreShow less

While this game definitely had it's moments, it took me many hours to understand what the underlying agitation was. My initial play through was a 100% run and the second on Ultimate difficulty. The game is spectacle. Which is terrific if that's what you want from this game. Spiderman has really cool moves and works his way through really fun fights. However, I wanted a game where I was the one building my skill to perform cool attacks and be an amazing spiderman. That is not what this game is. You press the punch button until the bar fills, then you push the other button to perform a finisher. You are not learning cool combos or navigating fights in a way only spiderman could. You just sit back and watch the spectacle that someone else made. This also infects the web swinging. If you want to get across town, you push the swing button, then the jump button, then swing again. You don't have to pay attention to momentum or consider where the buildings are so that you can traverse a path. They added a zipline type ability so that if you mess up your swing, just zip back up and jump into a swing. This kind of hand holding is also evident when you jump off a tall building. You don't die, you just do a super hero landing. Not very interesting. I jumped off the tallest building to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Nope. No death. Don't worry about trying too hard. Boss fights aren't any better. Some are fun locations. Near the end of the game you have to fight two bosses at a time. Even on ultimate difficulty it only took one attempt, but just a few more punches. None of them had any interesting to do. You dodge, then attack, then wait for their attack combo to finish. Of all the legendary spiderman villains in the game, none of them do anything interesting to do. They all go through an almost identical pattern of attack. At the very least, the game isn't bad. It's just not what I wanted to play so I spent many hours understanding what bothered me. The whole time I was hoping to have an option for a more technical experience after finding how many accessibility options were added.Show moreShow less

Its not a bad game, actually quite well done, however only 14hrs to complete it at 80%. (I don't care about doing the clone of ubisofts fortresses nonsense from farcry) So while I appreciate sony porting over some of their good/great sp games, for full price after several years wait not worth the bill. Wait for it to go on sale, 30 bucks would be golden for this game but 60 is to much.Show moreShow less
