--------------------------------------BUYER BEWARE----------------------------------------- Just a heads up for those who haven't bought this, and may think of buying it. First you have to create an account on Social Club in order to activate the game and then it HAS to be permanently linked to your Steam account. Then if you want to change your privacy settings to private for instance on the Social Club account you have to Link it permanently to Facebook or Twitter account, before it will ever let you access the Social Club account. This should be stated on the game store page IMO. For those of you who don't mind having everything public and all these accounts linked then it's not an issue. However I like privacy and don't have a social media account. The loss of privacy now adays just to play a game is ridiculous! Again there should be a notice to gamers considering the purchase about these things! If I had known I would NOT have bought the game. This to me is nothing more than a sleezy data collection scheme. AND YOU are paying them so they can USE you and your accounts for free promotion of their game at the expense of your privacy. Which boils down to....Let me know these hidden requirements before I buy something because I don't want to buy something if these are things I'm forced to agree to. I'm old school, pay money for license and play game! I do not want to pay money in order to be forced into this social media crap! EDIT (since some people were missing this in comments) When I first registered this game and discovered the hidden account stuff, I sent a searing email to customer support at Rockstar Games about the account linking with Facebook and Twitter in order to change privacy settings. I also included this review to make them aware of what I posted publicly about their game policy. I gave them the choice of giving my money back, or changing my privacy. Whether it forced a policy change, it has since let me change my privacy settings without linking to a social media account. *These additional account creation in order to play, and things like linking to social media ALL need to be optional. Optional so that people like me can opt out of them completely, and those who like them can take part in them.Show moreShow less
And then I sat there; a fat 30 year old, balding. A life wasted on video games - continuing to be wasted. Too accustomed or perhaps just too lazy to do anything about it. "who the hell are you to write a review?" I asked myself, as my grubby finders types away at the worn keyboard. Perhaps this wouldn't be the best review; but if this washed up old virgin could convince a single person: then it would be worth it.Show moreShow less
Well its been a while since I played this game and for some reason it installs its own Rockstar launcher on top of Steam. I'm no longer using the email they have so I could not verify the game so I cant play it. I'll uninstall it and I guess that's that. Why Steam have you allowed this company to create and install what amounts to a launch interface on top of your interface? Its obnoxious from a game players point of view and more than time consuming and redundant. I would suggest, in future, if I game creator wont run it direct through Steam, then don't carry them on your platform.Show moreShow less

This was a tough call to make. I wanted to like Max Payne 3, but it just really did not want to be liked. The good news is, at the core, the gameplay is actually pretty good... when you get to play it, but more on that in a bit. The combat is true to the John Woo style of the series. The game is also considerably more difficult than Max Payne 2, but not as much as Max Payne 1, which is a happy medium. It's a bit heavily cover-based, but you do have the shootdodge at your disposal to mix things up. Unfortunately, you will spend the majority of your gaming hours locked in sequence after sequence of unskippable AND unquittable cutscenes which smugly display the text "still loading" when you try to skip them, despite the fact that it has clearly been 5 minutes or more. If you try to press escape, the cutscene will just pause. Once the gameplay actually begins and you start to have fun, the instant the last guy is killed you are forced to watch a 30 second cutscene of Max opening a door or vaulting a ledge, or something else you could have easily done yourself. It often doesn't even allow you time to search the room for guns, painkillers, or collectibles. When you do get the opportunity to scavenge the room after a battle, you cannot backtrack to the previous room (which is always inexplicably locked behind you) and you are CONSTANTLY nagged every five seconds to proceed forward, either by one of Max's allies or Max himself. He'll say to himself, "I had no time to admire the scenery, I had to move forward," as if he's in a rush to finish his own story. I suppose he needs to make time for more compelling details in his storytelling such as "there was a security door across the hall" or some contextual remark on every bottle of pills that he finds. The general flow of the game, as you may have guessed, between all the cutscenes is just shooting gallery after shooting gallery. In many a cutscene you have the dubious privilege of watching Max bumble his way into a room, alerting the entire mob, and spoiling what would have been a perfectly good sneak attack. And after the game spends most of its time yanking you forward against your will, in other chapters you will be forced to slowly walk or stagger drunk or wounded through the level for ten minutes, unable to actually do anything useful. It absolutely refuses to let you play at your own pace. But that's just the story mode -- if you want to just shoot stuff in combat scenarios without all the talky talk then surely Arcade mode is where it's at... right? Ehhh, no. The only difference Arcade mode has is that it removes the *skippable* cutscenes from the game, which there weren't that many of to begin with. Wonderful. And it gives you a score at the end of the chapter, with none of the instant gratification the game so callously denies you.Show moreShow less
