Sadly I cannot recommend this game at the state that is in. There is a common bug that when you unlock the multiplayer it says "Corrupted Data found" and permanently locks that save out of online quests which are an essential tool in Monster Hunter games. Until they address this issue and fix it stay away from this game. You don't want to invest 20 hours to just see that you must start from the begining all over again because some odd RNG. UPTADE: We seem to have figure out that the bug happens at the moment of character creation, when you select the skin tone you have either presets or a palette, if you chose the second option you're 100% guaranteed to have the Save locked, so if you are like me either buy a 3€ Voucher to edit the character or create another save. Still is a pretty bad one and Capcom should compensate us for this.Show moreShow less
Pros: + A vast world to explore + Pokemon-like adventure with hundreds of Monsters to hatch and raise + NPCs and custscenes have tons of personality + Each Monster feels different and unique + Main character fights alongside the tamed Monster + You can ride in the overworld every Monster you raise + Battles are fast and satisfying. Also, able to speed-up battles for fast farming + Oddly enough, deep combat mechanics that constantly change depending the occasion + The original Monster Hunter experience and vibe is still present + Multiplayer/ co-op available + Competitive PvP mode available + A lot of character customization + Great amounts of replayability + 60+ stable FPS Cons: - Turn-based combat may not be for everyone, although it's handled very well - Not all weapon types from the main series are present - Some fan-favorite Monsters may be missing - Searching dungeons could get a little repetitive after dozens of hours playing - Armor and weapon passive skills could be a little more complex - Mediocre story - To create a perfect Monstie, it will take a lot of time and RNG luck - Switch version compared to Steam is garbage - Some awesome-looking outfits (cosmetics) are locked behind DLC - Makes the wait for the Monster Hunter Rise PC version harder, showing us what the PC will be capable of Verdict: Totally worth your time, even if not a fan of the mainline Monster Hunter series. Easily one of the best modern era, turn-based RPGs out there and there is a great amount of content to satisfy even the most hardcore players. Just being able to befriend instead of slaying popular Monsters of the series, is a reason alone to try it out. As Monster Hunter Stories 1, online features are solid, meaning you will be able to take advantage of your time invested into the game, to pit your hard-trained Monsties against other players around the world. An easy 8.5-9/ 10Show moreShow less
I got this game to play co-op with my best friend, but 6 hours into the game and I just got to Nargacuga which is 1 step away from unlocking multiplayer. I am tired of games holding multiplayer hostage through a frustrating "tutorial" story that takes hours to complete, this is a Monster Hunter game, let me just play with my friend! I work a full time job, I don't have 8 hours to sit and grind while trying to unlock a BASIC feature like COOPERATIVE PLAY which is advertised on the damn game! Updated Review: The multiplayer is absolute garbage, repetitive egg hunts with laggy, slow combat. Just let me play the campaign with a friend instead of ramming old characters down my throat and screaming "HEY, REMEMBER THIS GUY/GIRL!?" Yes, I suffered their presense in the first game, do I care what they've been up to? No. How is Cheval the SAME AGE when Red was an OLD ASS GRANDPA!?Show moreShow less
Comparing this to Pokemon is a disservice to what Stories 2 is. This game oozes charm and love for the Monster Hunter series that breaths new life into the monsters we've grown to love over the last decade. Animations, art, gameplay and music come together to create a complete experience in a living and breathing world. For being one of the highest grossing franchises in the world; Pokemon is inexcusably pathetic in comparison.Show moreShow less
Fun game but you can get a bug that permanently prevents your save file from being able to access multiplayer quests in any capacity, whether you want to play with another person or just do it solo. Nobody knows what causes the bug, Capcom is unlikely to fix it. The only solution is to start over, the earliest you can tell if the bug has affected your save file is around 5 hours into the game if you are rushing. Not sure if your save file can just magically corrupt itself at any point, but the prospect of permanently losing out on the ability to access all multiplayer (this includes the upcoming Kulve Taroth update) because of a bug that capcom doesn't feel like addressing doesn't sound too enticing to me. Can't recommend this game in good faith considering this.Show moreShow less
Imagine if Pokemon was good, fun, and was made by a company that cares. That's this game.Show moreShow less
Denuvo was removed.. only for Enigma DRM to be added. This has been edited in respect to the aftershock of Enigma's introduction. Original parts of this review that are no longer 100% accurate have been stricken out. Fun game, problematic practices. CAPCOM has proven they have no interest in the consumer's enjoyment of their products, with the abysmal state of Wilds, and the debacle that was introducing Enigma DRM to the vast majority of their library. On its first injection into titles like MH:Rise, RE:Revelations, and Dragon's Dogma, many users were outright locked out of being able to play due to Enigma's aggressive anti-modification measures blocking out Linux and Steam Deck users, along with even cosmetic or game-fixing mods. There are ways to get around it, including the Ol' Reliable, but this can't be overstated enough: CAPCOM's decision to add in gamebreaking DRM to more of their games, of course, is breaking the games it's added to. Some hotfixes over the course of 2024 have "largely" fixed the drastic impact this new DRM had on the game. Steam Deck users have been reporting that they're able to access the game again - which is fantastic - and visual/save corruption fixing mods are once more able to function. In their infinite wisdom, CAPCOM made it so that you can only play with other players in your Download Region, because everybody loves internationally-available, online compatible titles having completely arbitrary region locking. A very popular mod fixed this anti-consumer decision that CAPCOM themselves has refused to address launch (despite a sleu of complaints from players across the globe), but since Enigma is an aggressive DRM, it outright prevents mods being added to the game, meaning you can no longer play with friends who aren't in your country. This is still accurate, insofar as the original Matchmaker Region Unlocker mod on Nexus was taken down once Enigma was put into place. Removing Denuvo had actually broken its functionality, and there currently (well over a year later) is no alternative. Cross your fingers that changing Steam's download region will work for you and your friends, I guess. This of course also means that Linux and Steam Deck users, just like with Monster Hunter: Rise, and can no longer play the game they paid for, because the anti-cheat aggression in Enigma also treats any "non-standard" or third-party parallel software the same as hacking the game files to cheat. I still don't recommend purchasing CAPCOM developed or published products. They don't deserve your hard-earned money when they can, with absolutely zero notice, completely block access/greatly decrease performance and usability to any game you've paid for years down the line. It ultimately doesn't matter that the product now functions (somewhat) as intended again, because the premise Enigma has set is a dangerous one to customer-product accessibility and security.Show moreShow less
Makes Pokemon look like a joke.Show moreShow less
There is a gamebreaking bug that completely locks out all multiplayer function on your save if you choose a skin color that isn't one of Capcom's presets. Yes, I'm serious. No, this is not a joke. Your save data will be considered corrupt and no multiplayer can be accessed on that save. You are required to completely restart the game and pick one of their presets then play through the entirety of the game until that point again. There is currently no fix and no word from Capcom about it. I cannot recommend a game with an egregious bug like this present.Show moreShow less
