My main complaint with this game is the lack of lessons learned from the developer since the release of the original. All of the fundamental issues from My Summer Car are still present here, exactly as they were before. In particular, I'm talking about technical issues such as problems binding multiple XInput devices at once, particularly when using separate wheel/shifter/pedals. Even if you can get them working, the order changes often enough that they need remapping every launch, and even that isn't reliable without the assistance of mods. Mods that work straight out of the box from the first game, because the engine version, file layout, and stuff under the hood, so to speak, are exactly the same as before. Interaction prompt texts still flicker because the item under the cursor is being polled every frame, and there's no native pause. When MSC was still in early access, these are all problems that people were certain would "be fixed in 1.0, so cut the dev some slack in early access". They were not fixed in 1.0. They were brought to the sequel where they are likely to remain. English subtitles are equally as poor as before, and while it's certainly part of the charm in certain places, you miss out on a ton of context and lore without full mod/fan translations. Oh, and like the original, the game is heavily bottlenecked by single core CPU performance. Unity DOTS has been around for years now, and after this much time, I really would have expected a backend overhaul. All in all this feels very lazy, and that makes me sad. These are all things that will not be addressed throughout early access, because they are the fundamental blocks upon which the rest of the game is built. Finally, a main world development point in My Winter Car is how small businesses like Teimo's are being run into the ground and out of business by big conglomerates. Yet the game uses AI in multiple locations. Hence putting real life small independent talent in the same position as Teimo's store. Missing the point a bit there, no?Show moreShow less
The only thing that disappointed me is that i can't remove ice from windows by pissing on it, but game is still in early access so I hope it gets added.Show moreShow less
I understand what the hype is about BUT, BIG BUT - I've never followed the author or the game's community, when I have played MSC from 2019-2025 it has been a pleasure, most of the game felt fully fleshed out 2023 and onwards. However, My Winter Car seems to have this weird taste to it. The game feels just lazy (crazy I know, it's Early Access). I have no idea if this was the intention or not since I do say that I have no knowledge but just buying it and hopping in while in a voice call I realized how sad this is. The assets are actually terrible, the phone cord clips into the "new apartment" that hasn't gotten any aesthetic to it at all. If you say an alcoholic just has superglued beer bottles on the ground that react a second late to you turning on and off the light switch is immersive, I don't know what to say. And this is the place you spawn in at! Virtually all assets are just taken already from a finished product, there is no heartwarming decorations. I feel like if any of the people reading this review have ever moved into a new room/apartment/house, you understand me when I say at first you just place stuff somewhere and until it lands a good spot you slowly arrange the room to your liking. This is what Toplessgun had done in MSC. It was empty. Now it's 2025 and it wasn't so empty. Why the hell does the continuation of that game still has that empty feel? It's not like he started from anywhere near scratch with the assets and the textures??? Imagine you hadn't decorated your room for like 5 years, hadn't gotten any new furniture, nothing, nothing at all. Top it off with lazy asset reutilization. Crazy. I understand the story doesn't really exist at the moment as well too. That I'm fine with. Sadly it feels like this shouldn't have been released yet. Also the snow is rock hard. I do know it does that, but a car will break even a thick sheet of ice layering the snow at some point. There should be code that interprets this and creates a snow splash texture on the windshield the moment you crash into a snow pile near the roads somewhat perpendicularly with it also slowing down your car and making you phase through that spot of snow. Wipe it off with the wipers. Is that really that hard? I don't think so. It's the unity engine. I've seen decades old games do amazing things with this engine. For those who expect something more of important audio-visuals - I don't recommend this game to anybody who actually wants to hop in and expect a good snowy experience with attention to detail in terms of the world that the original had at it's completion. The gas station doesn't even have an AC over the automatic door-sills that play an air whooshing audio when you walk in. You don't really hear any of the snow getting compressed. I haven't made it far enough to know but I'm pretty sure the studded tires don't have that nice metallic ripple when you go slowly across hard surfaces like ice or asphalt. I hope these get added soon. Point being, why even bother including these significant parts of the game only to then have them redone in future updates anyways? Just show the damn game like it's supposed to be- unfinished not badly finished. Another thing!!! - Away with the AI jank, you seriously couldn't hire a texture person for the sequel of the game that made you millions? Thank you for your attention. EDIT / COMMENTARY REGARDING MY REVIEW: MWC has the same asking price as the original (if you hadn't bought MSC before it was fully out of early access); a game which for a long time could've been bought on sale and it was alright for it's price as it was a first of it's kind and has garnered the respect of a lot of people including me and others. However, enlightening the new game in a neutral perspective as in this review, this is not a mod or DLC, so it's quite contradictory to treat the game as a great early access release for the unfinished new feature sets that it brings to the table. I am already cutting slack for it as I respect the game and I will not be refunding the game and will enjoy it's content as it comes. I will not put forward radical ideas that "oh there should be free demo cuz its bad" but simply put Toplessgun already knew that he will make a lot of money from this release, which currently is roughly valued over 250'000€ in the first week alone. Poor implementations of new important core mechanics, AI usage and most importantly, the sad fact that just like many other game studios, the creators behind MSC have fallen into the stereotypical shortcomings of an unintended culture where no matter what product they release, enfranchised people will come up with excuses as a defense mechanism (even though they in fact paid for a product clearly below everyone's expectation), even light and constructive criticism will be outcast as hate. From my experience social media is very dictated in good light of all products from beloved companies until the moment social media influencers/outlets who profit off positive content and affiliation realize that creating hate about a certain product will bring them more money if it is utterly terrible, which MWC is not. It is okay to have opinions, just don't blindly follow everything you believe is true simply because it’s loud, repeated, or popular to pile up and defend, nor fall into unconstructive hate.Show moreShow less
wanna experence msc but its so cold that your nuts fall off? well i have the game for you! WARING: dont go into this as a newbe, get MSC and play that...(not sponsered btw) THEN come to this game. but if your experenced, GET IT NOW. we have more beer, a problam, A JOB (sorry about that all you unemployed dudes and dudets), a gas staiton, ATM's, ice racing yobbos, a cruddy little Ford two door thats been rotting in a garadge for over ten years, a flea market, a old folks home with your Uncle in it whos coughing sounds like nails on a chalkbord, about three hours of daylight and a sometimes kinda toxic to newbies fandom (thats chill for the most part, relax im not pointing ALL of you out)... so get ready to feel the cold and the mental pain of winter and pray you dont slip and slide into a tree at 100mph in your little daliy driver!Show moreShow less
Ah, My Winter Car.. Well, it's been around for a couple months now, and that has given me a fair amount of time to enjoy the game. But it has been quite hard to enjoy it. After 68 hours of gameplay, I feel the biggest thing that is lacking in this game and making it far less enjoyable than the legendary My Summer Car is the fact there is quite literally piss all to do. I understand it's an early access title, and there is not a single doubt in my mind TG will at some point in the future add more things once the bugs have been sorted. I mean, if you look at how much My Summer Car has grown over time it's truly shocking. But that game has always been fun to play, something I can sink my teeth into and enjoy because you feel so free. You are a rural Finnish teenager with some cash, some vehicles, a driver's license and a garbage car in your parents garage. And even once the car is built, you can enjoy the finnish summer and talk to the questionable locals. It's fun, I don't know what makes it feel so fun considering most of the game is a chore simulator but the endless interactivity makes the game feel so alive, and so open. So where is that in the sequel, My Winter Car? Yes, I get it. By 1999 you are man in your early 20s with bills to pay and jobs to get. It's winter, and everything sucks. But where is everyone? There is something about this game, that everything feels so flat. Something about the dialogue, and I believe it is the lack of new things to do that makes me notice that more. Of course there's a fancy new store in town, and a fancy new car to build. But inbetween drinking myself to sleep and waiting for the next heap of scrap to arrive in the post for the Rivett it just feels as if there is no fun to be had. The outside is cold. You will probably die if you take a stroll out there. No more drunken men to pick up at 2 in the morning. Grandma is gone, so there is no more taking her to church. Uncle is nearly dead, so no more drinking with him at the house. Aside from your cousin's new ute he prances around in, there are no more vehicles to take joyrides in such as the EDM. I could go on for a while, about the things that have been sucked away into nonexistence. I could go on about it for a while. In terms of jobs, the Gifu returns and is crappier than ever on the roads, and you have 3 more firewood deliveries in which everyone says the same thing to you every time. You can work in the factory, which may possibly be the most dull thing to do in the entirety of Perajarvi, or be a taxi driver, and pick up soulless dead silent passengers. And for all of the driving you do in this job, the pay is not even that good. I get that this game aims to be a much more serious experience that tries to explain you are an adult now, and you have to get off your ass, but even then there is such little drive to play the game and experience Perajarvi again as it feels more abandoned than ever and you will either see the same things you saw in My Summer Car with some snow on it or it does not exist anymore. Currently I am waiting for some new life to be put into this, to bring back what made My Summer Car such a memorable and unique game. Again, yes, early access, but it feels as if it lacks so, so much charm it could have had in the 5 years it was developed. But I will thank TG for the endless work he definitely has put into both games, and hope moving forwards we will see this game get better than ever. I'm not the best at reviews, to be fair, so I apologise if this was repetitiveShow moreShow less

When I opened the game I was like, wow, what a great first game to be released, but then I played and realized wait, this isn't the 1st one, this is the 2nd after having made millions of dollars/euros. Then I learned this has been developed over 5 years. 5 Years for what, doing what? - The game engine and the entire framework is identical to msc, with the same issues, how? The entire game runs on a single core while using unity? 5 years? how? - AI used at all while having millions, again, millions of dollars/euro. It costs 500 bucks to get all the music done, on a bad day, by a real human being. - Can't pause the game after 5 years, again, why? There was time to fix it, you are making a new game. Don't give me "engine limitation", that's for your first game, not for the 2nd after, again, millions of dollars/euro have been printed. - Lack of translations? Why? Pay somebody, not like there is that much to translate anyways? - Lack of things to do, everything is repetitive, nothing fresh happens. Sewage, firewood, adverts and kilju are from my summer car. There is a taxi job and futafon, that's it. Both are repetitive with nothing happening. - The map is copy pasted with white textures, just like the mod for my summer car. There are some new locations but that is it. Millions of dollars, millions of possibilities to pay somebody and make something new or different. - I ran out of things to write about, there simply isn't much to write about as there is nearly nothing new in the game. If this was EA for the first game, very cool game, but it is not. Is this just a lazy cashgrab?Show moreShow less

Obligatory Negative Review due to AI usage in-game. I do not understand why they felt it necessary to use AI slop. I understand that the overall aesthetic of the game is janky and sloppy, but that's no excuse. Human-made jank is different from AI regurgitated garbage. Please remove the AI slop.Show moreShow less
