Tried NMRIH2 during the free weekend and honestly lost interest on the first day. The atmosphere and co-op potential are there, but the zombie spawn system completely ruins it. You can clear a room, check every corner, and two seconds later zombies just spawn right behind you like it never happened. It makes any kind of strategy or teamwork feel pointless. Instead of feeling tense or immersive, it just feels cheap and frustrating. Hard pass unless they seriously fix the spawn logic.Show moreShow less
Hmmm... Before playing or knowing anything about the game or its series, I was excited. Before playing or spoiling myself, I looked forward to the gameplay and ideas. (Because its hard to do these type of games) After reading everyones comments and reviews about NMRIH2 vs. the Original... I came to these thoughts; After playing it solo, Its fun. A new experience (I have never touched NMRIH because it simply reminded me of L4D) After adjusting the visual settings, I went from 30 FPS to around 70-80 and it made the zombies even more frightening. After reading comments on Chivalry 2... I can see how the melee feels just like it... Not saying it bad, but its funny. After thinking and playing 3.3 hours on it?... Its definitely not bad. Its a bit of a stretch to say "Early Access" - Its more so... Interesting that the original concept of the game was scrapped. but It has a lot of potential to be really good. I'm going to recommend giving this game a chance to shine, I've played MANY MANY MANY "Full Release Games" from AAA studios that made me drop my jaws in disappointment but this game really made me enjoy its atmosphere and the fright of fighting a horde of zombies alone. I'm going to give my two cents and give them time to mature and grow because who knows? - you guys are literally pulling a "Helldivers 2" tactic where you will later alter the review to positive. But... Dont get me wrong, HD2 was a nerf into the grave. (Wonderful start, Fun Middle, Terrible End) I would say, Maybe give it a shot if you enjoy zombie games, Its pretty good for that. but... due to its lack of content... I would say get it on sale or if they adjust the price to 15$, I think people would change their tunes a bit. Thats all, I know people wont read this but Its a very decent idea but the executions and deadline to push games like this can cause things like this to happen.Show moreShow less
It's sad because there is so much to love about this game, but every time the game does something amazing it's held back by the developers doing something stupid. So the highlight why you should hold off on giving them any money, here you go: Gun: Sound, look and feel amazing, some of the best gunplay I've personally experienced. Understandably for a zombie game with resource management, ammo is rare, so guns are really valuable, right? RIGHT? Well, yes and no, guns are really useful, but instead of hardcore realism, its, just punishing for the sake of punishing, a .357 at 10ft against an unarmoured head doesn't always kill, 9mm from 2ft away is still minimum of two shots. They try and force you to treat weapons like a last resort but shift the gameplay to make guns one of the only viable ways to fight, and even then its unreliable at times. Melee: Nothing is more satisfying then swinging an axe through a zombie's skull, well at least it is satisfying when the axe makes contact and deals damage, CONGRATS! You watched the axe go through the zombies head, but unfortunately there was no collision detection, the zombie remains unphased, you've now been bitten and spend the rest of the match being a pill addict. Minor gripe -> I get it, realistically very few people can behead a zombie with one clean hit, but the melee weapons are intentionally weak, to the point that they are better used as crowd control to push zombies back. Because of this many situations demand the use of guns to survive (see previous sections for example of my 13th reason why). Because you are better off using melee to push enemies back, bladed weapons become worthless (except maybe the fire axe), as bladed weapons deal "more damage" with less knockback/stun, meaning you still have to hit them just as many times, but now you don't need a bug for enemies to shrug off a hit and still bite you, congrats, you're now chasing pills for the rest of the match. Progression and characters: You're character levels up, the more you play as them the stronger they get with perks and invested starting gear. If they die, they are dead, gone, all that time and investment disappears, that makes your character and your choices very important. As for reasons mentioned earlier and some more to come, there are a lot of ways you die and lose your character that are out of your hands. Meaning no matter how good you are or how smart you are, the developers have taken away from your own agency, they have left countless ways for you to lose your progress and all the time and energy you invested into your character, because "Hardcore", because challenging gameplay isn't enough sometimes you just need it raw and unlubed. Multiplayer and team based gameplay: This is a game where you need people, and also the source of many other complaints from users regarding servers and server populations but has been covered plenty. What I want to call out is that even if you get past everything else, you avoid the bugs that will get you bitten, you get lucky and find infinite ammo or the literal holy grail, this game requires teams in order to complete missions because of the volume of enemies, the objectives that leave you exposed while you work, because the game centers around teammates. And yet, despite how vital they are, they, more than anything else will get you killed, this mostly revolves around public lobbies and playing with randoms. But this is a fundamental flaw of the game, the gameplay pushes teamwork as a necessity, yet rewards players for being selfish. You get a lot of players running around ignoring objectives to grab all the resources, you get some people running around and shooting drawing hordes then leaving you to deal with it alone. I get it, humans are one of the biggest challenges in a zombie apocalypse, once again, "hardcore" gameplay, taking away a sense of agency and losing all the time and energy you put into characters because of factors outside of your control. This is why I log off after one maybe two matches, why I see my friends log off, why I see people quit to desktop because the gameplay pushes the thought, "I would rather play something else" and "why did I spend any money on this ♥♥♥♥". Now if you are lucky, enough people die/leave that you can get early extraction and save your character, well until you find the early extract is locked behind a door or barrier you have to complete, which you need those other players who are dead/disconnected, and once again you lose your character who you've sunk all this time into. Zombies, levels, and horrible collisions: Dear god the zombies look and sound amazing, they fit the aesthetics of the game perfectly, love em, love seeing the apocalypic sets and level design. Sadly the zombies aren't the only threat, running away from some zombies? Unfortunately that 1.5 inch tall thing on the ground has a hitbox large enough you can't walk over it, so you have to climb, a several second animation, ooh sorry, too slow they have swarmed you and if you survive somehow you better start finding some pills. Oh look, you knocked a zombie on the ground, lemme bash its head in, oh, sorry its on the ground there is maybe a 25% chance your weapon actually connects with it. Oh look, that zombie has a helmet? Let me shoot its exposed face so im not wasting ammo, sorry, the helmet still sucks up that first hit, because realistically a construction hardhat can protect you from .308 at 5ft away. "Hardcore" gameplay is great isn't it? Realism in games is so awesome! I love bending over and spreading my cheeks for Torn Banner's thick and veiny..., anyways, I played more than 2 hours so im stuck with it, so please, please please please, give it a few months before you sink even a penny into this. I want them to fix the game because it has the potential to be so amazing, but god do they need to lube the game a little. Also, final minor note, progression in the game is meh, perks don't really do that much for characters, and the three slots you have on the home screen for starting items, yeah no matter how much gear you find you don't keep it you only start with those 3 slots of items. So it makes a lot of gameplay and looting feel really pointless, especially when half the map is locations with no objectives, all that time looting is just pointless unless you need weapons/ammo/meds in the moment.Show moreShow less
Met a random at the Gas station, stuck together like glue even among the others we found. We finished booting up the power station, started running for the heli.... during the run he got caught by a crawler and multiple sprinters.... he didnt come home.... 10/10 would lose my random best friend again.Show moreShow less
Didnt want to leave a review, but i see a lot of people slagging off the NMRIH team for what happened to this game, and as a level designer for it let me be clear, this wasn't the original team, most of us got thrown overboard when making nmrih 2 became a thing. Personally I would have approached the development of this game completely differently, NMRIH was a tribute to the original holy zombie apocalypse trilogy, this feels like the idea of someone who just watched a couple of episodes of walking dead and gave it a shot. All the effort myself and others put into the original game, even though most of us didn't get invited to work on the sequel we all hoped it would do us proud. And why wouldn't it? we'd built a fan base that was hungry for more, and we knew what they wanted, all that time feels wasted. Torn banner, snatching defeat from the jaws of Victory.Show moreShow less
Good game in theory. Needs a bit more time in the oven but I have hope.Show moreShow less
I think I speak for many here when I say that WE want objective and survival maps instead of an extraction shooter. We want better melee combat. We want way more zombie variants. We want ammo calibers instead of generic “light ammo” type stuff. We want infection. We want “Press K”. We want scroll wheel inventory. We want child zombies. Instead of glowing red eye zombies, we want military and SWAT zombies. We want to feel like a hopeless survivor again, not a veteran in a war against zombies. We want No More Room in Hell. Wtf happened to Night of the living dead and Broadway 3?? Showcased on YouTube a while ago as launch maps. That’s the NMRIH2 that we want. On top of all that, the game is a buggy horrific mess. Zombies glide around and teleport. Some of them have gibs floating with them. It’s a mess… stay away. Especially if you’re a fan of the original EDIT FOR REANIMATION+ UPDATE: Game has come a long way. Game still needs a lot of work. I have put almost 50 hours into this game and have put hundreds on the original. I love NMRIH. I was extremely disappointed when the game first came out but I kept my hopes up. They have definitely been listening and as an old school NMRIH fan i appreciate it. Some things I am happy to see added since launch - ammo calibers - scroll wheel inventory - press K - infection 1.0 - better spawning systems for the zombies - 2 new maps that fit well with the NMRIH vibe, especially waldo/lewis - more endings to power plant map - more guns - firemen zombies and - countless bug fixes to make the game feel stable and playable. - new combat system However the game still needs a lot of work. A few things that I can think of off the top of my head include -OPTIMIZATION - BETTER COMBAT + GORE. Seriously why cant i decapitate zombies with the fire axe? And why cant i downward slash blades to split heads in half? Zombies disappear in a red mist with explosions instead of being able to see the damage done with my grenade or pipe bomb. Why cant i break the legs of zombies with the sledge? WHY DOES THE SLEDGE SUCK?? - BETTER INFECTION that introduces some form of potential pvp aspect similar to the original. What if someones infected and has all the meds and wont give them up? What if he’s hoarding all the pills and theres other infected? What if he wants to kill everyone before they kill him? It would really suck in a zombie apocalypse to not only have to worry ab the zombies but your fellow man. Also, the press K voices are really cringe. They’re like “TAKIN ONE FOR THE TEAM GUYS” as theyre about to blow their head off. The voicelines should be way more scared and self preserving in my opinion - more zombie models and walking animations. It’s silly seeing the same face on a bunch of zombies all walking in the same 3 styles. Especially the swat guys, we need more variants and animations. - more maps. We NEED broadway 3 at the very least. I think a NMRIH2 rendition of broadway and chinatown would be a huge hit. - survival mode - character customization to choose voice and appearance - more firearms, especially SKS and AK for 7.62. Id like to see a tier II .45 caliber firearm (maybe a Glock 21?) and a 50 cal pistol for a silly gun. Not too unrealistic either. Also maybe a tacticool .308 weapon like an AR10 or a tac stock attachment for the m14. - extended magazine attachment for some of the guns - better looking optics. I mean seriously they look so bad. Why is the sight reticle consistently visible?? I think lewis is the closest map that captures the original NMRIH vibe the best. The other two have grown on me, but man the other new map seriously needs some alternate missions to do other than the community center. Combat is getting there, we just need better gore and real directional combat for all the weapons. Theres no reason i cant downward swing blades. And theres no reason a sledgehammer doesnt break the zombies legs and make them have to crawl. Sledgehammer should crush zombies skulls as well. Anyways i could write forever about this game because ive been so hype for it since announced almost a decade ago. I still dont think i would recommend it to someone just yet for 30$. It needs a bit more time to cook. Torn banner, you guys are doin a good job. Make sure you keep the originals fan base in mind and dont let new players completely ruin the games identityShow moreShow less
Unlike other failed games the creators of no more room in hell 2 didnt just scrap the game, they are trying to revive it. The creators actually talk to their community on what was bad and what was good. When it first came out yeah the game was hella bad because of how buggy it was but since then they are fixing their mistakes and making the game better with more updates. When it first came out : 2/10 Today : 8/10 (8 out of 10 because there isnt much else to do but im happy that they are putting more stuff in to make it more exciting)Show moreShow less
This is not No More Room In Hell game. It's just a generic zombie game with the name "NMRIH" slapped on it. To start the review, it seems worth emphasizing that I NEVER give negative reviews before. When I buy a game that I end up not liking, I just refund it and don't leave a negative review. Because, well, maybe I just didn't like the game so there's no need to leave a negative review. But this time it's different. I feel the NEED to leave a negative review for this game. This is NMRIH 2, a sequel to the classic zombie game which can be said that was a part of my childhood. Me, and other NMRIH fans, have been WAITING for this game for 8 years. People expected this game to be a great sequel and raise people's interest in NMRIH. But instead we get this lame, lazy, soulless game (and buggy too). First, lets talk about the cut content (yeah, a cut content for early access game, imagine that). If you just recently following this game, you need to know that Torn Banner has only recently taken over the game's development. Previously the developers worked on this game independently. After Torn Banner took over, they MAKING THIS GAME FROM SCRATCH again and removed all of the previously existing content. You want kid zombie? You want infection? You want su*cid* mechanic? You want character customization? You want weapon customization? You want more map? All WAS exist in the old build BEFORE Torn Banner TAKING OVER the game development. All that 6 years of hard work wasted just like that. The second thing that is also very important is that Torn Banner changes the concept of NMRIH 2 into a soulless extraction shooter game. What makes NMRIH so beloved by many (despite its flaws) is that it has a uniqueness that not many other zombie games have. When you play NMRIH 1, you feel hopelessness. You just a nobody, trying to survive the zombie outbreak. You're not immune to the infecion, resources are scarce, and you objective is to save yourself from the chaos that happen. Now compare it to NMRIH 2. You play as responder (the equivalent of cleanser from B4B. Who the hell want that?), spawn already with weapon, a skill (a skill in NMRIH game? What were they thinking?), and tasked to prevent some power plant from exploding. What a fresh and unique concept, right? Moreover, there are SO MANY bugs in this game. You think after Torn Banner taking over, the game will be better? It's become WORSE. Zombie teleporting, brain floating, weapon flying, etc., it's still exist even after the hotfix! These guys now they game was so buggy, but they released it anyway. If you said "hey this is early access, so you better expect bug to exist". Well yeah I will expect some bug to exist, but not a infested kind of bugs like this game have. Better call this game alpha build and not early access. I wouldn't be this angry and disappointed if this wasn't a NMRIH game. But the dev slapped the NMRIH name to this game, mainly because they know people will play this game because of it. But of course people are expecting a real NMRIH sequel, not this crap, generic, and boring game. I'm not even going to bother at all if the dev polish this game more an release a 1.0 version one or two year later. Because, well, this is NOT a NMRIH game. So, thanks to Torn Banner for ruining a beloved franchise and destroying the old dev vision. Go to hell, Torn Banner. But I don't think there's going to be any room in hell for you, Torn Banner.Show moreShow less
