Once again we have an independent piece of art that discuss how much power media and newsbroadcast has over us all. Exellent coverage of media and brilliant acting coming up after these messengersShow moreShow less
An interesting concept for a game, but unfortunately, seems to want to find every way it can to get in the way of what's actually fun and interesting about it. It starts out well, putting you in the position of directing the nightly news segment, and giving you control over the shots you want to broadcast and the way you want to portray certain headlines. Unfortunately, as the game goes on, it continues to throw more and more mechanics at you to the point where you're spending more time trying to play a bunch of mini-games all at once than you are actually focusing on the news segment you're broadcasting. Found myself going from, "Oooh.. this is a hilarious reaction shot. Let's make sure we get that!" to "Screw it, any shot will do, because I've gotta go over here and play whack-a-mole." The live-action news segments themselves are all quite good and well written. I had a few good laughs. The "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" written portion of the story, however, is not. I found a lot of it either confusing to follow or just downright boring. Overall, I think if the developers focused more on the "Propaganda Sim" aspect of the game, and less on throwing mini-games at the player that pull them away from that, this game could be a gem. In it's current state though, I'd only recommend it to see the live-action segments, and not for the actual game-play.Show moreShow less
Not bad at all, I enjoyed my stay with this game! Good story, funny acting and engaging gameplay! Smiley face!Show moreShow less
I really wanted to like this game. I really did. The idea of sitting in a broadcast booth, shaping the narrative that determines the outcome of perception is such a great mechanic for storytelling. But sadly the story itself is so fascicle it borders on insulting. What tries to be a commentary on the a dystopian future vis a vis 1984, ends up being a ham-fisted Alex Jones-esque fever dream of "Woke politics run amok". Your choices are to side with the bumbling but somehow simultaneously sinister antagonist political party, or to side with the wealthy autocratic protagonist society defrocked of their money and power. Both options are however portrayed as the "fallacy" of equality, the "oppression" of the wealthy, and the "indulgence" of the liberal arts. But these all pale in comparison to the cardinal sin of gaming: It's just not a "fun" game. There's a few laughs here and there, but it's just too busy focusing on the dangers of collective bargaining (political action, teamwork, compromise) to be enjoyable. The overall feel of the game is one very long sermon on the Calvinist ideal that the wealthy deserve their place, the marginalized and downtrodden deserve their place, and any attempt to change that will result in apocalypse and misery for all. Whatever one's political sentiments may be, this game certainly doesn't do justice to well representing them or the effect media has on influencing them. Instead it offers a paranoid, demeaning attempt at delivering a poorly contrived "message" of individualistic supremacy for it's story, mediocre game play mechanics, annoying and unrelated mini-game gimmicks, and an overall boring experience at best, and downright insulting experience at worst.Show moreShow less

This could be a great game, but sometimes failing broadcasts for silly reasons, and having to replay a 10 minute segment, is too much. Checkpoints should be much more frequent to avoid having to replay entire chapters for something silly. Some of the mechanics just seem to be a waste of effort. Would prefer to just watch a playthrough on YouTube.Show moreShow less

Hamfisted Centrism I really wanted to like NFB, I really did. Because the game borrows so strongly from bastions of satirical comedy Brass Eye and The Day Today (and due to the really innovative and exciting interface), I assumed I was in safe ideological hands and jumped in with both feet... Pretty early on you're confronted with a press conference in which a Nigel Farage-type character and a party co-leader are talking about health and education reforms, heavily taxing the rich, and cracking down on offshore accounts. All sounds pretty sensible until you realise that these characters are being played as naive, bumbling fools, and worse - that they've been amplified into picaresque caricatures that don't remotely align with left-leaning British politics. Taking away passports and closing borders...these are not the remit of the left. So the satire in this regard doesn't really work. Shortly after, you're confronted with a situation in which it's made clear your only options are to either tow the party line and be militant about completely unreasonable policies, or help some wealthy loser escape from having his own 'hard-earned money' harshly taxed. It's clear I haven't played very much of what is a truly novel and imaginative game, but, I got the sense I was going to be forced into more and more of these ideological corners, which would significantly hamper any enjoyment I could get from the game. To reiterate, the people calling for health reforms - in this fictitious version of Britain - are the bad guys. It's not offensive, it's just ♥♥♥♥. If you like neoliberalism, centrism, conservativism, libertarianism, or can just otherwise sever your political proclivities sufficiently from whatever game you're playing to be able to enjoy it, then this game is probably for you! If you are a sensitive snowflake like me and prefer to spend your escapist time with entertainment media that broadly reflects your values, then stay away.Show moreShow less
Video Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDdk1lLWWZ8 Written Review Not for broadcast is an incredibly funny Papers, Please-like game, where you run a live switching broadcast system for a news station. You are tasked with running the show smoothly, while at the same time making choices regarding a more sinister story arch. One that revolves around an increasingly dangerous government. The main gameplay has you try to just run the broadcast. You can switch between different cameras, and the game teaches and rewards you for doing it well. You need to show the person talking, but if they talk for too long, you should switch to other angles to show people reacting, or else viewers will get bored. It all felt very realistic, and simulates how it is in real life. The game has you multitask constantly, which makes things intense, because you obviously don't want to lose your job. Censoring swear words live is thrown into the mix, and sometimes you need to avoid signal interference by moving a knob around. Every few minutes, you also have to correctly time when to cut to ads. Ads that you have chosen from a collection. Some of them might have consequences if played, or not played. When a topic is being discussed, sometimes you also get a choice of what picture to display. It depends on how you want the public to see what is being discussed. In between work days, the game tells your story via text. You have to make tough choices, like family, or obeying the law. All of these will have consequences, or would, because unfortunately the game released in Early Access, and only has 3 levels at the moment. They're amazing so far, but I beat it all in about 2 hours, and didn't really get to see how ANY of my choices played out so far. Regardless, what is here currently, is truly fantastic, and makes me so excited to see the rest of the game when its done. The music is a great listen, and when it wants to be, can be very intense. The acting in all the live-action segments is top notch. You know exactly what people are thinking without them saying anything. I need to commend the game for being really funny too, because although the world is a bit grim, some absolutely absurd situations happen in every broadcast, which really had me laughing out loud. And these actually play into the puzzles of the game, because you are many times trying to figure out what the hell is going on, so that you can know what exactly needs to be switched to. Overall, its short at this current stage, and left me wanting more. But it's so much fun. I love the world they've built and I can't wait to play in it more!Show moreShow less
Extremely fun game, extremely fun concept. Too bad it's Centrist slop that wants to have an "Enlightened Centrist" stance to such a degree that they're force themselves to make both sides in the game have the comical consistency of a thirteen year old Nazi/Stalinist with not a single sensical reason for half of their actions. If you can get past that, I highly recommend it, I'm just leaving a negative review because I believe Centrists are the most annoying people on the planet barely capable of sapienceShow moreShow less
