9/9/25 update: put a good bit more time into the game after several updates since the original release. saving has been implemented since i played back in march, and i haven't experienced any crashes since, which is nice; however, the fundamental gameplay problem persists: you're still too often at the mercy of shop/ball physics RNG at the beginning of any run; and even when you do gain some early momentum, a bit of bad luck with peg layouts and even worse luck rerolling (jumbling) them can end anything less than an absolutely game-breaking run in seconds. it's just not very fun after multiple bad starts to have to keep mindlessly clicking to the first shop to see if it's worth continuing. i appreciate that the sole developer has been continuing to put work into the game, and i wouldn't ever say that it's gone to waste, especially given how positive the reviews continue to be in general. but for anyone looking for a quick distraction that you don't have to commit a lot of time to in a single run, there's a lot of great budget games to consider, and i'd argue that many do a better job of preventing you from crashing and burning so early and so frequently, especially when it's through very little fault of your own. i'll keep hoping that the rng/difficulty gradient is smoothed out in future updates - the whole package is very charming and creative aside from that core flaw. ================================= original review: an addicting gameplay loop that's too often ruined by mediocre item and perk balance, resulting in a majority of runs either losing with a mishmash of useless and non-synergizing loadouts, or winning on cruise control at 9999x multiplier without even aiming. uninteresting challenges. lack of saving of any kind means that you'll lose your entire run if the game crashes, which has happened three times so far in five hours of gameplay. the framework is there, and the aesthetic is a lot of fun, but the pacing and general balance need a lot of work.Show moreShow less
theyre releasing 100gb games which were worked on for nine years and require million dollar computers and theyre all less fun than thisShow moreShow less
This game is pure RNG and takes essentially zero strategy or skill. Losing a run almost never felt like it was my fault, it always felt like it was due to an unlucky bounce (most of these were almost instantaneous deaths even though the board was completely stacked with pegs) or an unlucky board layout. The physics feel really wonky, the ball is always moving super fast and bouncing in directions that don't feel intuitive. You get no rewards for losing a run, so unless you're winning, you're literally wasting your time. I'm a massive roguelike fan, but this was not it for me.Show moreShow less
Way back when i used to play flash games on the internet for hours and think that i would never die. Today flash games no longer exist. And I'm now quite sure of my death.Show moreShow less
Based entirely on my experience since the recent physics changes, I would not recommend the game. Prior to the change I quite liked it, but I just can't get runs going anymore, despite getting many deep runs prior to the change. Something about it just doesn't feel right and it just feels a little too random and out of my control.Show moreShow less
This is why I bought my AMD Ryzen 9800X3D, so it can calculate numbers up to sextillion 10000 times a second in my funny little ball game.Show moreShow less
They took a fantastic idea, paired it with a super cool aesthetic, and right as they were about to release a masterpiece the developer thought to themselves: "what if I make this beautiful masterpiece dogsh*t?". This is the most incredibly frustrating game imaginable. If the ugly, stupid, clunky, suicidal, inconsistent ball would EVER bounce ANYWHERE EXCEPT for the nearest hole into its death, this game would be near perfect. Reading the other reviews it seems like at one point this game was not atrocious, I was not so lucky to experience that. The game in its current state is disgustingly bad. You might as well just launch the stupid f*cking ball straight down or into a wall every single round cause who the f*ck cares where you throw it, it's gonna end up in a hole within 0.01s. Even if you do choose to torture yourself, it takes WAAAAY too long to progress ANYTHING in this game. Why are skins so incredibly expensive for NO reason. If they provided upgrades to the items then sure, but they quite literally do NOTHING and take HOURS to acquire. Aside from everything else mentioned, this is a game that simply does not respect your time. Hot stinky garbage from a developer who has no idea how to make a functioning game. The idea is there, just pay someone who knows how to code to fix your sh*t game.Show moreShow less
The creator of Balatro said this game has the sauce. I 100% agree. This game has the sauce.Show moreShow less
A lot of fun, but super RNG-dependent on if you actually win or lose the round based on where Nubby feels like landing. Item and book synergies all sound really cool on paper until they just... stop working entirely because Nubby messed up that round. Or you just abruptly don't have close to the required points after all your items trigger. I really want to like this game, but the out-of-control physics factor makes me not want to play more.Show moreShow less
