I'm gonna be honest, I really wanted to like this game as a long time One Piece fan. I'll update this later on if my opinion changes throughout the game, but this is where I stand 4 hours in and roughly just before entering the desert in Alabasta. EDIT: I have now finished the part mentioned previously completely (main story and revisit), and have around 12 and a half hours in the game. The review below stands true still, the only time I've used any consumable is to skip a character's turn because there's just no need to use any. I've done no grinding and I'm breezing through every encounter, even and especially the boss encounters - and for those of you saying I had not concluded the "tutorial" 4 hours into the game, get a grip. Nobody should have to suffer through 4 hours of bad game, and no tutorial should be 4 hours long. It's worth mentioning that the pacing does get slightly better though is still weird at times, and they do let you explore the map some more - there is just no incentive to besides the collector instinct for all of the ability upgrade cubes. And yes, I am saying this because I've looked through every nook and cranny for collectibles. I will return one final time when I finish the game, but until then, these is the only thing I have to note beside the main review below. EDIT 2: The game is now completely done from start to finish. I've 100%'ed it, including the collectibles and everything. Unfortunately I will be keeping this short as I'm sad to say not much as changed from what I've previously said, except that once you finally beat the game you have access to these special "challenge" fights which are revisiting the major bosses from the memories. There are 11 of them and you can do them all twice, the first being just as easy as when you fought them in the story, and the second FINALLY providing any sort of challenge if you don't want to grind for levels. I really wish they'd done something like this from the beginning, at least optionally. The story was pretty alright, very One Piece all the way to the end and I can't stress enough how much praise the art team deserves. As for the gameplay, I really don't have much else to say that I haven't said already so the final recommendation is: If you do not care about one piece that much and just expect a good game, you will not enjoy playing this. If you're a die hard One Piece fan like me, get it on sale. And, for everyone defending that I came into this wrong expectations because this is a JRPG, you are lunatics, and it is okay to be critical of the game and still like the series. The positives: - It actually looks pretty nice, the animations and the lighting are cool and the sound design is very good and faithful to the show. - Shamelessly, I bought this just to see the crew again, and I will include this as a positive because if you are a fan, there is quite a bit of fanservice in terms of all of the "cliches" of the crew being included (such as Chopper and Usopp's surprised faces/interjections and the rivalry between Zoro and Sanji). - The combat is pretty refreshing, I've never played a game like this (adds some FF aspects with a twist of different combat zones). - There's quite a lot of production value in the voice acting, they added a cool story that both introduces a new island and lets you revisit some of the previous arcs with new content. - PC adaptation actually pretty good in terms of graphical settings and optimization. The actual pre-rendered cutscenes feel like they run on 30 FPS sometimes but it didn't really take away from anything. And that's about it. As something that's kind of just in-between and mostly a note: as usual for these kinds of games, the keyboard controls are not the most intuitive and it's better to use a controller. Now for the negatives: - This is ESPECIALLY bad in the first part, or the new "island" but the flow of gameplay is constantly interrupted with "cutscenes" that have a fade to black transition before and after, and last like 20 seconds of reading dialogue. It really takes away from the experience. - This game is very easy. A lot of the other reviews mention it, but it legitimately feels like a 9 year old could beat this game, and maybe that's the point? But if this game was made for a younger audience, shouldn't it advertise itself as a rehash of the earlier events? I don't think a 12 year old has seen or read all of the content throughout the years to be able to appreciate the game. Also, there are a lot of neat systems such as a party to rest everyone and give you an EXP bonus for 10 battles, crafting for food and special ammo, an equipment system and a lot of strategy to the combat itself featuring a two layers deep "type" and "element" wheel for weakness/advantage - all of which lends itself to a lot of min/maxing or strategizing which is wasted when you have to use none of it to get through the combat. - Adding this as a segway from the previous points because it shoves all of the systems down your throat, but my god there are a LOT of tutorials for EVERYTHING. We did NOT need this much hand holding and it's very intrusive. - This is not an open world game and that is NOT the point of the negative, the point is that they try to put you in open areas with branching paths often, and instead of letting you go down the path, if you try to head towards the path that isn't the main story then you'll get a dialogue box along with ANOTHER fade to black and your character turns backwards. This makes the first negative point even worse, as both of these combined really soured the experience for me. Hopefully at least some of these things are resolved once I get through more of the game, but as it stands, I absolutely cannot recommend this at full price. If you're a die hard one piece fan like me and you will absolutely get this game, please just save some money and wait for a sale.Show moreShow less
Robin and Nami have massive booba. 10/10Show moreShow less
Honestly, I love One Piece to death, and i preordered the deluxe edition as there were many, many positive thoughts on the game and there still is, everybody is talking about the positives. Here are my thoughts so far. The game is, in my opinion, the best looking one piece game there is, all the artistic details can not go unnoticed. The sand, for example, has the style of a straw basket, making it look torn from the manga, with various other impressive visual details to boot. But to be frank, that's about where my praise ends. The combat has a very interesting idea, with multiple small battles happening at once in a turn based style. However i find the execution was rather poor, as for all the interesting ideas implemented, its really just using the best attack repeatedly. the auto battle shows this best, as even the AI simply uses the same attack over and over again. The fact that there is an auto battle system should show you already how repetitive the game can get, along with a speed multiplier which seems like it was ripped out of a mobile game. Continuing with the combat segments, where during game-play you spend most of your time, the UI is extremely cumbersome, with blinking lights everywhere, making it very hard to tell who you are targeting. One last thing for this section is the actual encounters. All random encounters seem to have three possible variations, randomly picked, and as such you can have the same fight multiple times in a row, making me personally at least avoid random encounters at all costs, as they just feel repetitive. Leaving combat, the other thing you are doing most is walking around. seeing all the characters in a three dimensional space is very fun, but the walking animations for most of them seem very static, after looking at each of them for a while, Zoro and Luffy just felt incomplete. for Luffy, the one you are likely to walk around with the most, while his general walking animation is decent, his main use is to zip to a point, not unlike the latest SpiderMan game, however there is little fluidity or realistic momentum, and the second he get to where you "zip" to, all momentum is lost and he falls strait down. Continuing on, however, the story to the point i am, which i assume is little more than half way through the Alabasta arc, is consistently fetch quest after fetch quest. for example, a bird wants ten nuts, which all happen to be in birds nests throughout the town. however Luffy cant knock them down, even though they are all within reach of him, so to have the player use more characters, in this case Ussop, who is used to shoot them down. The world itself is also extremely linear, not allowing you to leave the path essentially ever, and from a game called "Odyssey" that is somewhat disheartening. there are invisible walls everywhere not allowing Luffy to jump down from the pillar hes on without first being dropped to the vines below. (said vines are on almost everything climbable as well) and if you attempt to jump down or walk off the edge of anything Luffy says the same line on repeat with absolutely no variation. For the final section id just like to point out the level system... during the first area of game-play, one fight is able to get you three or so levels at a time, with the stats each character has skyrocket. At the end of each fight, your characters will say something along the lines of, it wasn't my blades, it was me (not a direct quote), which can happen even after Zoro one shots the entire group of enemy's. in general, i love the idea of the game, but there are too many issues with the actual gamplay and story for me to recommend this to anybody, as playing this for any amount of time leaves me drained looking for the next checkpoint so i can quit. It seems I'm alone in this however, as all I've seen online has just been nothing besides praise. Either way, that's all I have to say.Show moreShow less

Super easy fights by mid game. Endless backtracking and bare minimum fast travel. Running speed is at a snail pace. Game has a function to change outfits, but there's only 1 other outfit in the game if you bought deluxe edition. So you gotta download mods to get any different outfits and those mods are usually just bikinis and nude mods for Robin and Nami. Chapter 6-9 are very underwhelming. At this point in the game you're so powerful you can just skip all mob fights except when you're forced to fight and it's more of a chore. Ending with really subpar bosses where you're at no point even close to being defeated. Adding to this you can just rush through those last chapters. Each chapter taking about 1 hour each. With 40minutes being dialogue and actual fights is 12 minutes of trash mobs and 8 minutes of boss battle (because the boss has dialogue and cutscenes too, the actual fight is around 4 minutes). I'd say the game has maybe some value for hardcore One Piece fans and I have to admit some of the humorous interactions gave me a few good chuckles. It's all brought down by the inexistent difficulty. The absolute slog that is backtracking to hide the fact the game is mostly empty of gameplay content. The game is about 80% dialogue really. If they make a similar game I hope they'll make one where we can make our own character. Choose our devil fruit or no devil fruit, instead being a swordsman, a kicker a la sanji or a god usuopp sniper. Add options instead of superhard railroad track story forcing you on a one way trip through every chapter. Give options on how to proceed and not just fighting like a real RPG. 5.5/10 for funny dialogue and cleavage. Gameplay and storywise: I will never play this game again.Show moreShow less

I have been reading OP for 2 decades and love the series. I am a little sad to see how many positive reviews the game has :( The levels are very small and poorly thrown together. the movement and Quality of Life aspects are poor. The amount of OP content is very low, only a few arcs. The final moves you learn are priamrily from Enies lobby and a couple from Fishman and Dressrosa. No Wano anything. No pre timeskip Franky cuz making a model for that would have taken time. Repetitive battles and no good farming spots. Essestially 0 content from year 25. This is the 25th anniversary game. Underdone, underloved, underfunded. Just read the manga.Show moreShow less

I wanna start the review of by saying, that even tho i do recommend the game, i also dont recommend it at the same time. Now let me clarify why. Story: The story is pretty much the same as it is with every One Piece Game which doesnt recreate the main plot of the Manga. Find Island, meet mysterious characters, find out the truth about the island, end. So far the story is nothing special, and i doubt it will become much more. There are certain things which try to make it interesting "Five Elders,Poneglyph like objects from another One Piece Game, and mentions of the old world etc", but im sure it wont have an interesting payoff if i consider the other games plots. Not bad not good. 5/10 so far. Combat: Now lets get into why i DONT recommend the game. The combat is insulting. Not because its too hard or too complicated. None of that, its just really really easy. Its so easy that i think a toddler could do it with no problems. So what is so easy about it you say? Well you one shot almost all enemies (even without abilities) and they deal like 2 Dmg to you. Some will now say "Dude thats just the beginning, it will get harder later on". And to that i say, i wish it did. Im now around 13 hours into the game, im at Alabasta, and its still the same, but now you 2 shot enemies. WOW so much harder... The only time i almost had problems was at a side quest, because the game throws 5 enemies at you which almost one shotted half my team. AND I LIKED THAT. I thought it finally gets more difficult, but nope. For some reason this fight is fairly difficult and the rest goes back to easy baby mode. WHY. I already handicap myself by not healing and using no equip items and its still way too easy. And the worst part is, the game doesnt let you decide the difficulty. The fact that an RPG from 2023 doesnt let you decide difficulty is baffling. This game is somehow easier than modern Pokemon. You need 0 strategy, 0 skill, just spam attack and it works. Worst part, the concept of battle is actually interesting. On the battlefield you have different zones. In each zone there are enemies and allies randomly put in, which means if Nami gets into battle its possible that she is surrounded by 5 enemies, and the other characters need to go to that zone to help her fight. This concept is really interesting, and could have amazing set ups for cool fights, but its useless because you one shot every enemie anyway. Funny enough the tutorial uses that mechanic very well, and it hasnt done that since. Its onestly pathetic and destroys the game for me. 2/10 Had potential, flushed down the drain because its actual game journalist difficulty. Other Gameplay: The other gameplay is just classic RPG stuff. Fetch quests, exploring, dialogue, farming etc. One thing i enjoy a lot is that every Strawhat is usable in combat and in the Open World, and they all do more or less unique things. Luffy can stretch, Chopper can fight into tight spaces, Sanji sees and gains more food objects etc. One thing i hate is the hand holding. I understand that the game sometimes goes "You cant go there yet because reasons", its annoying but its and RPG so its expected. What i hate is, if you explore the area, you will find things like small caves and openings. And if you think a bit, you can maybe come to the conclusion "Oh maybe Chopper can fit in there" And he does. Cool little "riddle" for exploration. The problem: If you approach any of these things, the game gives you a pop up which says "HEY IDIOT MAYBE CHOPPER CAN FIT IN THERE, I WONDER IF CHOPPER CAN FIT IN THERE, PICK CHOPPER, CHOPPER,C H OOOO PER." And it does that with every character which can do something like that W H Y. You also sometimes need to find the right way and can even talk to NPCs to get tips, but that is useless because where you need to go is always marked on your map. Hand holding bs. 4/10 Now the last thing: Charme: This game oozes charme and love for the OP world. You get so many funny scenes, sentences and references to older games, movies and of course the Manga/Anime itself. Its so cool and really adds to the immersion that that is THE ONE PIECE WORLD. If you are a One Piece fan the game will make you smile. It really respects the source material and mentions so many things from the past, without making it feel shoehorned or nostalgia bate. Just for that alone i recommend the game. Its also kinda interesting with its canon. The game mentions multiple non canon things like Shiki vs Strawhats, references to other games like Unlimited Cruise, and even has non canon characters in the game. So in a way this game just confirmed that all games, all filler all movies are canon inside this games universe, which is funny. 8/10 Truly feels One Piece. Makes you feel like a rubber man. I think the game is ok. If they ever decide to add a hard mode, i would recommend the game. But without its a "Only buy on sale thing". It can be fun, but the hand holding is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and the combat is insulting. It pains me because at its core, it feels like its made with passion and love. And it perfectly captures the One Piece humour and writing, but it just sucks as a game. Overall 4/10. If no hard mode in future, get it on sale.Show moreShow less
