Get the demo. Play the demo. If you like the demo, buy the game. Reviews will complain about bugs and connection problems, but People can Fly proved in the demo that they're both capable and willing to address these problems quickly. As for the game, it's a much more aggressive version of Gears of War. Each of the four classes regenerates health in different ways, and all of them involve violence. Health in this game is less of a bar that makes you fail when it goes down, and more of a fluid resource that you can spend on making your enemies dead. Do it well, and you'll heal faster than enemies can kill you. Do it wrong, and you'll die- and discover that this game's checkpoint system isn't particularly generous. It is predictable, though- it'll always dump you back to the beginning of the encounter, but you will keep any loot, currencies, or xp that you got in the fight. And that brings me to another point. This game is full of excellent quality-of-life options. There's options to replay any individual part of the story, options to turn down difficulty mid-gameplay, crafting options that let you level gear and even upgrade its rarity so that you never have to abandon that one gun you got in the demo that had good stats. You can completely respec your skill tree for free at any time. The modding and crafting system are excellent, too- you can tweak your guns, their mods, and even things like firing modes, so that your weapons perform as you want them to. The story's nothing to write home about- it's grim and gritty, almost cartoonishly so. The voice acting isn't spectacular either; not terrible, but certainly not great. This is not a game I'd recommend for its story. Then why DO I recommend it? Because it's a fun, fast, and aggressive cover shooter that, when it's working like it's supposed to, makes you feel like you're an absolute gun-toting combat god forcing your enemies to flee and cower before you as you rip your way through their ranks. For unchecked violence, skill diversity, and the incredible fun of direct impacting enemies with an AT-4 missile launcher, I can give this game my recommendation.Show moreShow less

Ok, so the developers are being super open about problems and they just releases a 24 GB update. The game is so messed up that it needed an update 1/3 the size of the total package? Crashes on start up. You double click your desktop icon and there is a 5 to 10 sec nothing happens. Now I had an SSD card drive that plugs in directly to my motherboard with a read speed of 2.5 gb/s. So the game starts with this beautiful graphic, a sweeping view of the game world. The the screen goes black. It stays that way until the first ad screen appears, maybe. Or it just stays black until the game loads a crash log. Which by the way adds a 340 mb file that sits on your drive every time it crashes. I cleaned out the crash dumps and there were 15.5 GB. They don't tell you about that. Well anyway they said they fixed it, and well they were wrong. Ok moving on, they said they fixed multi-player, yeap they did however if you co-op with anyone you may get your whole inventory wiped and the co-op will still cause one of your to crash. Combat: The mini map shows a cone or field of view for you, which pulses as though you are some how pinging for targets. Anything that is too far to see appears as inverted triangles at the top of the map and as enemies approach the triangles turn into circles except a certain class I simply refer to as a charger. They enjoy pain and lust for it so much that killing them is pretty darn frustrating. Why? Well they materialize right on top of you! They don't appear on your radar, one min the map is empty, then next minute you have 5 of them all over your and trust me they hit hard. There are also snipers that use a laser line to spot on you. They never miss, they can see you and hit you even if you are behind a wall. Great idea, yea? Kudos to the designers on both aspects of combat. World Tier: I am currently on World Tier 7 which means the enemies are 4 levels higher than me, I can equip armor and weapons that are 4 levels higher then my actual level and there is +300% chance that legendary items will drop. NOT. The bulk of the drops are green vendor trash. There are 15 World Tiers by the way and yea I suck at the game solo and as you can see the co-op is massively broken and to top it off they nerfed most of the damage perks from most of the builds, not just a little but allot. A 30% boost to a damage skill was taken down to 15% so before the combat was tough and now it's impossible. The only reason you see my play time going up is because I did spend big on this dog and I feel the need to get my money's worth. Yea, still as useless as a "soup sandwich" The game, IMO, was designed; NOT with single player in mind. That is why there is no offline mode. The difficulty to me is beyond my abilities, age is 71, so please spare me the "get gud" comments. Games like this are my nemesis, I love the concept but the concept hates me :P The game itself has great graphics and the story is bit "B horror movie" but still engaging. The implementation just plain sucks. I put 57 hours into the demo and aside from being nearly impossible to log into initially; I had no bugs or problems. The fact that they had to ramp up there log in bandwidth should have been a warning sign. "Lets see, we sold 300,000 preorders, do you think a log in bandwidth of 200K is enough?" Given the in game bugs and issues it looks like there was no QA play testing at all and many of the issues are linked to connection issues. Do any of you recall "For Valor"; that was a peer to peer connection as well and it sucked. Elite Dangerous is also "peer to peer" and it sucks, so what made me think this would be any better; only GOD knows. Bugs I've encountered so far with 22 hours of game play, most of which was spent at the log in screen. Multiple crashes on boot Multiple crashes on the "anti-cheat" code failing to create an ID for me Constant disconnects in the middle of a fight or just standing still looking at my inventory Game elements failing to be active. specifically "press E to interact" This is not even on screen, which requires an exit to the lobby to fix and an exit to the lobby is an instant dump to desk top which then requires a minimum of 10 min to log back in. Granted this is sporadic and only occurs about 7 out of 10 times, but it shouldn't happen at all FPS drops from 160 fps to 5 which is, IMO related to the dodgy connections issues and not specifically to any given system. Outriders is, for all intents, the Division without the cover mechanic. Yes, I know the I am not supposed to hunker down in cover, but the classes are, IMO, too single minded. I play the Technomancer which is supposed to be a "long range" class. The issues in this game is it appears that 20 feet is considered long range. The really hard part to come to grips with is "I loved the demo and I spent 59.99 USD" and its a terrible dog. About as useless as a "soup sandwich"Show moreShow less
Solo Experience Review (without Spoilers!) Played the Demo and now 1.3 hours after release, completely solo. Game is fun, as higher the world rank becomes, the harder it gets. Getting killed from time to time, but still manageable as a solo player. Recommended? Yeah, its fun. Thats what matter the most. Will update the review once I played more. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Update 1: After 3 more hours in the game, my first impression from above hasn't change. Still playing entirely SOLO. I have beat the 2 areas after the starting area now. Still dying from time to time, as the game is becoming harder and harder by increasing the world rank AND the game is throwing different things and bosses at me. For your interest: I am playing the technomancer. I am always carrying a sniper rifle and a shotgun with me. Next update will follow as I progressed a bit more. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Update 2: After 12.5 hours, the game is still as great as it was at the beginning. Game is becoming harder and harder as the world rank grows. However, also my equipment is becoming better and better. Just found my first legendary gun. What a feeling! Two words about quests: Its mostly... 1. Run there 2. Kill X or find X or do X 3. Return So don't expect a Witcher level in terms of quests and story. However, everything is voiced and you always have cutscens and dialogues. But as the fighting is the core of the game, its not that bad. And the fighting is REALY well done here. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Final Update: Allright, finished the story and all side quests and started to play the "end game content" = expeditions. They are fun the first 1-2 times (I haven't finished all yet), but become boring pretty fast. The reason is, that they force you to rush through it because your rewards are based on the speed / time limit. Therefore, min/max builds become a MUST in order to achieve your goal and makes any other builds than the current Meta build obsolete. With that in mind, would I still recommend the game? Yeah, pretty much. The campaign is fun, the gunplay is fun. Endgame could be (much) better, but meh. Grab it with a discount and your good.Show moreShow less
I tried playing it for a while, it kicked me out from the single player campaign saying it lost connection to the servers. Tried playing it and I keep getting the same error and I can't actually continue. I don't see why I need to be connected to anything in a single player campaign, thanks.Show moreShow less

Before writing a review I played the crap out of this. Finished all the story stuff and clearing Tier 15. So for whatever that's worth I can honestly say do not buy this game for $60. What you're hoping for is Warframe meets Destiny. What you get is Dollar Store Remnant: From The Ashes. Every mob is a recolor of another mob you just saw. It's literally the joke from Grandma's Boy but real life. If you know, you know. Fight Mechanics? Ehhh, Just dodge in time or die. And I can't even strongly say "in time" because half the damage at higher tiers feels unavoidable. Stuff literally hits you from off the screen with no real warning or time to move. So you essentially just have to heal through it. I strongly must warn you that if you're looking for a cover system based looter shooter this is not for you. Cover is not for you, it's for the enemies. There is barely any content at end game. And the story isn't good enough or memorable enough to play it just for that. The gun play and shooting is fun. The mechanics of some of the enemies is definitely questionable but you will find your groove eventually and wreck everything fast enough where the screwy mechanics don't really stop you from progressing anymore. IF they were to add some sort of real end game like Diablo 3 rifts, or PoE maps, or Destiny raids, or Warframe mission structure and sheer amount of content. Then maybe it would be worth the price but as of right now the game is too shallow, full of too many bugs, crashes way too often and just plain feels like a rip off at full price and has honestly been kind of a huge disappointment compared to what I was expecting. Update *4/10/21* I was hoping I could come back and change my negative review to a positive one but they've essentially super nerfed every single build in the game by trying to nerf the buffed ammo builds. Oh, and also re-introduced the inventory wipe glitch so when you login to your character right now there is a good chance you'll load in naked and it will save and corrupt your character file. Neat! It's not a bug guys, it's a feature! Ever heard of New Game Plus? Well let me introduce NEW GAME MINUS. Let me touch on the nerfs real quick too. They told us that the buffed ammo builds everyone was running were way over performing. It was too much, damage and no life players like myself clearing T15 expeditions solo were doing things we weren't supposed to I guess? So how did they "fix" it? They took time away to be able to successfully complete expiditions to an almost impossible amount. I challenge anyone at PCF to run some of these expeditions solo and get a gold time when some of the mobs are so far spread out you spend more time running around looking for them then actually killing them. Also, they nerfed the damage on these builds. But they didn't buff a single thing. So what does that mean? The top builds are STILL the top builds as before they just suck now. And thereby making all other builds that were already under-performing WORSE. Technomancers not only lost damage to blighted rounds but vulnerability lost effectiveness game-wide. Well bleed devs who were already crying to the devs daily about how the entire class is a joke right now suffered from that nerf as well. This game has become a meme like cyberpunk at this point. Oh, also, there's a folder in your appdata for this game that keeps track of all the crashes that happen. Mine was up to 8gigs, I've seen a guy on reddit whos folder was 26gigs. Please tell me why theres a hidden folder using up that much of our hard-drive space? I'm going from wait for a sale to straight up do not give this company your money. I'm sorry but this game is a complete dumpster fire and a total meme at this point.Show moreShow less

I like to think I'm a patient person, and I've waited a month to post this negative review. I honestly regret not doing it sooner. I waited because the game is genuinely fun to play, but at this point the issues are a lead weight on the other side of the scale. I can say that with 134 hours, I've gotten my $60 out of this game, but I had to actually "try" to get that value. By the time I was totally fed up, I was outside the refund window, so I kept going to get my money’s worth. Pros: 1. When the game works, the gameplay is stellar. The blending of shooting and ability use throughout combat works really well. It is also visually entertaining. 2. There is a lot of build customization available between your abilities, skill tree, and the mods you select on your gear. There is plenty to tinker with and you should easily be able to find a playstyle that will be fun for you specifically. 3. All the classes are at least entertaining to play. Like every game, they aren't perfectly balanced against each other, but all classes can do all activities with varying levels of effort. 4. The story kept me engaged. There was clearly a solid effort put into it. Not award winning, but not everything can be. The campaign with all the side quests completed, took me about 30 hours. It would probably have been a lot quicker if I didn’t raise the difficulty every time a new World Tier was unlocked. Between the campaign and the endgame content, I think there is enough here. Cons: This section is going to get salty. This game has so much potential that got blown here. 1. The game, even in single player, is ONLINE ONLY. At the time of writing, the store page says that persistent online access is required for the demo, nowhere does it says this for the core game. This decision appears to be the source of much of the game's greatest failings. There has been a running joke since launch that the sign in screen is the greatest boss in the game, because you can't connect to the servers, or you may just have to wait 20 minutes to sign in. Getting disconnected from the servers multiple times a game session have been a constant issue, something I don’t have in any other game online. There is NO EXCUSE FOR THIS BEING AN ISSUE PLAYING SINGLE PLAYER, but we have to always be online for no reason. 2. Adjacent to the online only issue, the game is peer to peer, and as usual that has turned out horribly. No matter if I’m playing with randoms online or friends who are in the same town, if you’re not the host, you’re gonna have a bad time. Since not only do you now need to connect with whatever toaster at PCF you need to for single player, but now you have to remain constantly connected to the host player as well. This results in ability cooldowns failing, weapon and armor affixes failing, and of course lag. If I had a nickel for every time I got stuck for 3 seconds after using Gravity Leap, I would have paid off the $60 for this game. 3. Major bugs upon bugs. Only the major ones are listed here, these alone should be damning enough that minor bugs shouldn’t matter. 3A. I have never played a game that crashes this often. Sometimes it might take a few hours, other times I get 4 crashes in an hour. After a crash the game decides to create a crash data dumb folder on my OS SSD, despite the game being located on my much larger hard drive. I've deleted 10 gb of crash files twice. 3B. We had character and stash inventory wipes caused during multiplayer since launch, and it was a continuing issue for weeks. People Can Fly (PCF) deployed a "fix", THAT MADE IT ALSO OCCUR IN SINGLE PLAYER. It appears that further wipes have since been stopped, but it took weeks for an actual fix that didn’t make things worse to be deployed. Effected characters are still entirely unplayable. PCF says that this is intentional to prevent further save corruption as they are allegedly working on limited item restoration of effected characters. The game has been out for a month and we are still waiting. Honestly I expect them to say that they actually can't find a way to do that. 3C. In the latest update to the game on April 30th, they "fixed" a bugged mod that should only apply a massive damage mitigation boost at 30% hp, but instead was actually operating constantly. In doing so, they managed to break damage mitigation FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. No matter how much resist you have, sometimes the damage mitigation has zero effect. And you’re not just getting one shot because mitigation no longer works. there is also supposed to be a hard stop point at 30% hp preventing one shots in general, that no longer works properly either. 3D. It is absolutely baffling that the bugs in this game got through quality assurance (QA). At this point I’m thinking players are the official QA for PCF. In the current Reddit thread for the one shot bug, PCF is requesting players answer 20 questions. A similar thread existed for the item wipes. PCF has repeatedly shown that they can’t be bothered to detect and diagnose bugs themselves, and instead players are expected to write an essay for them. Rather than writing the essay PCF wants, I’ve decided to write my essay here as a steam review. It’s fine to ask for help from players, but at the level of help they are asking for, you are no longer a player, you are a play tester and you should be getting paid by PCF, not the other way around. 4. The campaign works on a Diablo like Torment system, in Outriders this is the World Tier (WT). There are 12 WT levels that are unlocked as you play the game and your progress to the next level gets partially removed when you die. This is a good system that would be in the pros section in any other game, but PCF shoots themselves in the foot. WT becomes pointless the moment you unlock the expeditions endgame content, because there is a second difficulty scaling system for expeditions only, Challenge Tier (CT). WT gear from campaign max drops at level 42, CT gear max drops at level 50. Now you could spend resources to level up the lower level gear, but there is no incentive to even play WT campaign content because the drop rates of legendary gear is massively lower than in expeditions. This means that instead of spending time doing the 30 hour campaign again, you just do the same 15 expeditions over and over that take 5-20 minutes each at gold medal time. It just arbitrarily limits the content you can do if you want good gear, hurting fun and replay-ability. Said good gear being the entire point of a looter shooter. 5. The endgame expedition missions have the same issue as Diablo 3, its timed content. Your worthwhile rewards for the missions are almost entirely dependent on finishing the mission as fast as possible. If you build anything but pure damage, you will not beat these timers. It shoehorns you into glass cannon builds, drastically decreasing the number of viable builds in endgame content. You want to build tank, your just wasting your time. Conclusion: This could have been so much longer, but if by now I haven’t changed your mind, nothing I add is going to change that. PCF, like many of developers as of late, clearly believes that it is alright too officially release a game that I’m not sure should even be considered a beta build. The demo was a more stable experience than the full game. This game has so much potential that has just been squandered. PCF didn’t deserve my money, and they don’t deserve yours either.Show moreShow less
