EDIT - when I asked whether or not the artwork for this game involved the use of AI, a developer responded saying that they haven't used AI for artwork in the past but are "positive about adopting AI", and that they are looking into how it can be integrated into the process. what this means is that future updates for the game are likely gonna contain AI assisted art. if you can look past that, this is a fantastic game, but unfortunately I can't. Ovis Loop is a great game that is largely soured by its use of generative AI in localisation (previously undisclosed on the steam page). this kind of thing saddens me so much to see. the game is full of absolutely gorgeous hand-drawn art, and clearly has a lot of passion and talent behind it. hell, if you play in English/Japanese/Korean/Chinese, you won't even have to see any of the AI-generated content. I just can't support or recommend anything that uses this ♥♥♥♥. I'm not writing this to dog on the devs. when I asked on the discord about the lack of an AI use statement, the developers were extremely apologetic and ammended it within minutes. they genuinely just don't seem to understand how big of a hit their integrity (and their game) are taking from the use of genAI, nor the ethical concerns it raises. I understand that they are a tiny indie dev team from South Korea with limited funds, but this is just not the way to go. even poor translations would be infinitely better than genAI. I don't want this game to fail or be dragged down by the involvement of AI, I want to see the devs get the resources they need to get all of this AI ♥♥♥♥ out of the game. if that happens, this will be an easy 8/10, probably even higher. maybe I'll refund within the next few days, or maybe I'll be a hypocrite and keep playing this game anyway (because it really is just that fun). but I can't recommend this right now. please, devs, you are doing your gorgeous passion project an enormous disservice by involving genAI.Show moreShow less
As a Dead Cells fan with 1800+ hours who still plays the Daily Challenges, I must say OVIS LOOP is the first game to give me comparable fun and pleasure. Build-building and gameplay-wise, it’s a mix of Astral Ascent and Skul: The Hero Slayer (both were close, but not quite as good). However, the mechanics are new, fresh, and - most importantly - they work. There’s room for improvement, and that’s exactly what Early Access is for. I’ll be checking updates and waiting for the release. Dead Cells fans, don't miss the opportunity to help create a masterpiece!Show moreShow less
Short review: Ovis Loop looks more fun in the trailers. It doesn't really translate to the in game experience I think. If I had foresight, I wouldn't have impulse bought this game, and for the curious potential buyer, I highly recommend seeing if the demo feels good to you first. And even then, wait for a few major updates for the devs to tune the game further. - - - As far as 2D action rouguelikes go, Ovis Loop feels fairly midling. It is under active development, and I think it can get better, but after ending what is most likely my last play session with this game, I leave it feeling pretty disappointed. I've been banging my head against some glaring gameplay frustrations that bog the experience down, so I'll note here-- Visual clarity With the screen shake, vfx, damage numbers, and general enemies dogpiling on top of each other and the player, not enough care is given to making enemy attacks pop out in the all the chaos Evading damage There is a dodge roll move, but it's single use and tied to a short cooldown. It doesn't auto refresh if you dodge an attack, and it's not tied to a stanima bar or something. This very quickly becomes an issue when multiple enemies have attacks delayed one after the other. You dodge one move, right into the arms of another move, and get hit. Bosses in particular feel more annoying then they should be due to this. Combat feels sloppy in general and I think this is one reason why The "grind wall" boss So every run I did would end in the same spot; the boss of the third floor. I'll keep this simple: that boss is unreasonably difficult. It has a unreasonably large health pool. It's attacks cover an unreasonably large range. It has an unreasonable stat check move that lowers your health to critical. Like other bosses, it does not use the shared attack telegraphing language that normal enemies have. How unreasonable of it I suppose the idea is to grind out runs until you have enough passive strength through unlocks to defeat the wall, but to be frank, Ovis Loop is more frustrating and less fun to me; for now I will finish this *current version* review and put the game down. I hope that Ovis Loop gets better with future updates, and I wish the dev(s) good luckShow moreShow less
Quite a fun little roguelite game. Much more so than it looked on the videos. I skipped over it when it first came out, but the good review scores got me interested. This is definitely a bit more of a button masher than most action games... at least to begin with. But there's a lot of fun here. The action stages are really rewarding, the music is rocking... the combat is super chaotic and wild but also just plain fun. You feel really powerful (until you hit the mini boss!) This game uses a traditional roguelike road map layout, similar to Slay the Spire, where you pick your path to the end boss. Once you beat that, you go to the next stage. When you die, you return to your little hub where you can unlock new character upgrades or weapons, etc. There is also a story here! It starts out really vague but starts to unravel as you play. Sometimes you get little snippets, sometimes memories... and don't get me wrong it's kinda weird. But in a fun way. I definitely think this one was somebody's passion project and it shows. This game is more than meets the eye and I recommend trying it out.Show moreShow less
This is a fantastic game. However, if you stop playing in the middle of a run and then come back to it months later, the game will ask you "continue" or "new game" what it doesn't tell you is your saved game is also connected to the run you start MONTHS AGO, so if you forget how the game works or what the menu is actually saying, there is a possibility you could end up deleting your saved game with all the weapons and attributes unlocked while thinking you are deleting the run you started months ago. Unless I'm just dumb as a brick. Other than that, this game gets a big fat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ negative review. get it together devs.Show moreShow less
When this game releases its 1.0 is going to be a banger, cant wait for future updates!Show moreShow less
Would be a good game if the game did not swarm you with a crap ton of enemies at once making it hard to see the clues when a enemy will unleash a strong attack.Show moreShow less
Game is AMAZING its literally everything i wanted albeit quite buggy in some aspects like the fact that when you close the game it still somehow stays running??? I have to actually stop it via steam. Some interfaces also just dont work initially until you like spam them a few times or jump in and out of them but outside of that the games incredible Ive been waiting for this one forEVER and i do not regret hopping onto it for early access.Show moreShow less
