I want to write this review comparing Parkitect to Planet Coaster. If you were like me, you were wondering if Parkitect could bring anything different to the table. TLDR: Parkitect is better, below is why... PROS vs Planet Coaster (PC) - Employee management is more intelligent, more realistic, and more enjoyable. If a janitor is taking out the trash and walks by a dirty bathroom and vomit on his way to the trash disposal, the janitor will come back to clean up the bathroom and vomit after taking out the trash. They act more realistically in this way, like people with memories and responsibility. The employees seem to manage tasks themselves better as well, who is assigned to what job is usually most efficient and never needs intervention. There isn't shopkeeper management as well, which is nice, I believe PC was wrong in adding that unnecessary complexity/expense. Also, have no fear about your staff quitting for no reason whatsoever. - Shop management is more challenging and therefore, enjoyable. Getting your shops profitable depends on several factors. In Parkitect, you need to have private employee paths to stock your shops privately, away from visitors. But you must have your shops near your visitors, because a thirsty visitor sometimes is too excited to seek out a shop: if there's a choice between an exciting ride or the shop, they might choose the ride and regret the decision later when their throat is bone dry. This causes you to plan a lot more in advance. Also, Cost of Goods come into play, you have to actually keep buying and stocking supplies in your shops. This means to be profitable, you have to watch your finances and be sure your prices are perfect. - Visitor AI is NICE in Parkitect. At first I was bothered by visitors walking EVERYWHERE but I thought about it, in real life, I would too because you have no idea what's around the corner. In PC, visitors only walked somewhere if there was a reason, making a lot of your decorated areas with 0 visitors walking around. In Parkitect, if you build a path, they will walk it and it's nice to see your decorated areas get used and enjoyed. The visitors seem smarter as well, some will want to go to a shop they heard about at the other side of the park after visiting the next ride. The visitors seem more realistic, as if they have emotions, because sometimes they will make bad decisions because they are excited to ride the next ride and will forego that bathroom break a little too long. The visitors are less messy, they will hold onto their trash until they see a trash bin as long as they can. Also, NO TRAFFIC JAMS at all, so no need to build wide paths everywhere - seems the Parkitect visitors are just more friendly and cooperative to each other. Everything just seems to be better here. - FPS: Parkitect has the same slowdown issues as PC with larger parks, but when you have a large running park somehow it's less annoying of a slowdown. All the people and rides run at their normal pace still, even if zoomed completely out. It's only when you move your camera about do you notice anything. - Building, crafting, and decor: Parkitect has less building "stuff," and the system is different in control, but OMG everything fits together perfectly once you get the hang of it. There are a million ways to build something and in Parkitect, it ALWAYS looks good and seems to make sense. For some reason, it takes a lot less time to build too. - Ride Mechanics: In Planet Coaster, you can build a slow moving car ride and charge a million dollars. Not in Parkitect, people will complain about the ride length, leave the park, and hate you. There are some other examples of this for various types of rides. This makes it harder to build rides that are "cash cows" and is more realistic... - Updates and cost: Parkitect constantly updates and brings new things without having to buy a $10 DLC all the time. PC has cost me a lot of money in the long run and their DLCs are really bad. - You don't feel as useless: In Parkitect, you can research, run marketing campaigns, just like in PC, BUT.... in Parkitect, I can help catch vandals. It feels good to kick them out. - There are more calm, thrilling and water rides! - There are more types of shops! - There doesn't seem to be a NEED for hotels in Parkitect, your visitors will leave once they are done with their park, whatever that means to them. A visitor leaves once they have seen everything or if they are very upset. This means I feel more satisfied on my end, people enjoy every square inch of my park depending on the visitor's ride intensity preferences. - There are very cool informative overlays in Parkitect, both in general for your whole park as well as for rides. You'll see what I mean. - You can pin windows and organize your screen to suit your needs. - It's harder to actually have a profitable park. - I have an idea of what the perfect building/ride layout/setup might look like but in the amount of hours I have played, still have not nailed it down. This is a good thing, I hate figuring something out 100%. You must balance aesthetics with technical efficiency here and there's no formula that is a perfect balance here. - THERE ARE MANY MORE CAMPAIGNS to play through and with replay value. They start off very easy but then get harder to accomplish. Very enjoyable! CONS vs Planet Coaster (PC) - There isn't a built-in ride simulator, to ride the ride, but there is a mod for this you can use and works perfectly with LESS lag than PC. - Once you build something 3D, I haven't figured out how to view inside of the building to make corrections/edits/additions without having to delete walls temporarily. - The intro graphics aren't as slick. (I am reaching here...) Buy Parkitect.Show moreShow less
I love the customizability of this game but nothing irritates me more than spending hours custom building buildings and putting so much detail in to everything just to have a profitable park suddenly go in the red by thousands a month for seemingly no reason and losing it all in bankruptcy. You play the game in a constant state of debuff, it's either always storming, there's always a parts shortage, always decreased interest in theme parks, and/or always vandals in the park. The vandals are super annoying because there's no easy tool to help find them in the game. The security guards are a joke, they have to catch them in the act. You can manually boot them from the park but actually finding them in the crowd is a pain as the only tell is a hard to spot bandana. Why bother manually booting 11 vandals from your park though, once you're finished finding and booting them all, another group of vandals enters the park. This game reminds me of Rimworld in that sometimes you just can't catch a break. So much potential yet so much constant irritation. The UI is still a bit clunky as well. I had to remap all the controls to make building with mouse buttons easier. Dont like how the build items menu hangs in the middle of the screen and maximizes itself any time the cursor gets near it - annoying when you're trying to build a building piece by piece. Needs to have a specific "build mode" just for making blueprints. I've had to create a custom scenario with a blank map and unlimited money just for the purpose of building blueprints. Need to be able to zoom out further too or at least have a park map you can look at to help plan out or be able to get a view of your whole park. I really really really want to like this game I just find the constant negative events, seemingly unstable budgets at times, and clunky (yet improving) UI get too much in the way of letting me enjoy my game experience.Show moreShow less
Parkitect is to Roller Coaster Tycoon what Cities: Skylines is to Simcity.Show moreShow less
Most of the game play is great, but the lack of a working undo button, which it seems numerous people have asked for, when you have to use some weird underground or terrain altering tools means that you can accidentally screw up with a single click. It's too infuriating for me to ever recommend as it currently is.Show moreShow less
Lets just start off by saying - you guys did an amazing job with this game. It hits so many things that haven't been touched on or refreshed since the old RCT days, while still making it something different. Pros: +Really is the spiritual successor to RCT. I don't want to compare the 2 too much cause Parkitect is its own entity. +The right amount of customization. Not over the top overwhelming, but more than enough control to create some very unique masterpieces. +Shops actually require some thinking on placement, creates a new dynamic. Solving a puzzle at times. +Visitor AI cares the scenery on the rides and in the park +Employee AI and visitor AI seem to be more intelligent in comparison to other games of this genre. +Adding decor to a ride can make it look/feel completely different. 2 rides that are exactly the same can be completely different with different decorations/scenery. +Custom Music +Devs being involved heavily in the community, taking feedback to adjust the game. +G-Force Graph overlays. Man does this help pinpoint problem areas on a coaster and it looks amazing. +MOD support. +Custom music. +Steam workshop integrated directly into the game for easy uploading of rides and parks. +Easy blueprint saving mechanics for saving your coasters with the scenery. +Ride building challenges. +Full campaign coming out. So many pros, I am sure there is more to add here. The game is what I have been looking to fill that RCT gap that has been missing since childhood for me. Cons: -Performance issues. There are some slow downs when you park starts getting to a decent size. I do expect to this to improve as time since the devs are so involved in the community. -Editing inside a building or underground can be a ♥♥♥♥♥. In buildings you have to delete walls/roofs to make changes and underground it can get hard to see under the top layer to add paths or tracks. Suggestions: -Improve overall performance. This is probably the biggest one for me. I understand if you have a very large park there is not much you can do. But even on pretty empty parks the game will chug at times. Depending on camera angle and such. (Computer is well above specs). -Customization options, I am sure there is much more to come and with MOD support - this will be endless. -Being able to work camera angles better for underground or in a building.Show moreShow less
I see the charm and the love that was put into this game. I really wanted to like it but unfortunately the frustration of not having an undo button was too much for me. That one little thing was enough to make me stop what I was doing after an hour and refund the game. So close to being a RCT successor worth playing for me but I just can't get over that one thing.Show moreShow less
Let's talk about Richard Smith. Richard was in my park for a grand total of 15 minutes and 53 seconds, he bought a hot dog and briefly sat on a bench before he got into line to ride Stratosfear. Richie should have probably waited a little longer after eating that hot dog to go thrillseeking, after exiting the coaster he passed multiple restrooms and trash cans to puke right in the middle of the walkway. These things happen, no big deal, so I sent my janitor over and cleaned up the mess. I notice that the Richmeister has gotten back into the line to ride Stratosphere again, that's a bold move. Ricardo finishes his second go on the coaster and he looks rough, completely hunched over and walking slow, I think to myself "thankfully he already puked". Rico stops right at the same spot my janitor just cleaned up after him and purges all over, takes a second step and regurgitates a third time. I don't know what transpired between Dicky and my janitor before they met up at my park on this day but good lord, this janitor better have at least hooked up Rickster's sister to warrant this kind of treatment. People were walking through the bile piles as my poor janitor tried to clean up the mess, after he finished he took a much needed break and I start looking for Ritchie...he's in line again. He can't. There's no way. Rickon finishes the ride and...pukes a fourth time? I coudn't do it to the same janitor, I grabbed a janitor from another Zone for this. Sir Sprays-A-Lot runs, seriously hauls it to the front of the park and finally leaves, maybe his upset stomach was travelling to the basement instead of the penthouse now and he didn't want to do that in a public restroom. I check on the status of my theme park and get to the tab that tells me recent reviews. "Completely filthy...Disgusting" - Richard Smith If I ever see anyone named Richard Smith in my park again, I am going to trap them alone on a secluded 2x1 island with no access to food, drink or restroom.Show moreShow less
Reasons why this is better than planet coaster: -Not DLC focused, the base game is more than enough -Simpler aesthetically; I want a park manager, not an intricate park design game -More fleshed out campaign which is longer and has more variety in goals -Clearer tutorial BUT i then discovered several issues: -making money is very difficult. You quickly plateau out the cash reseources -Guests just kind of do whatever. they dont follow a logical path. -The hiding of staff becomes so difficult and monotonous. -the giant expensive rollercoasters are the least fun, so many people complain they dont like them. In RCT, these are the money makers and the big investments. this game doesnt seem to do that.Show moreShow less
Want the old RCT1/RCT2 feels but can't run them or can't stand the dated graphics? Or just want to play something that picks up where RCT1/2 left off? Yes? Then this is the game for you.Show moreShow less
Strongly advise you to avoid. Here's why: The basic premise is promising: a spiritual succussor to the classic RCT games. However, there's 3 CRITICAL shortcomings that made me uninstall. TLDR - just get Planet Coaster. 1. Track alignment is a nightmare. A 0.1-tile-high difference will prevent your ride from being able to be built into the station, and there's no automatic way to reconcile such a small discrepancy. You have to delete track and add slight slopes up or down, hoping that when you level it out it'll be the same height as the station. No "autocomplete", even for excruciatingly minor differences in height. 2. The way ride construction and general windows are managed in the game is painful to say the last. The window opens right in the center of the screen, and when you click to build something, you need to click away to minimize the window into a strange floating bar. If you happen to mouse over that bar, the entire window auto-opems. It's jarring, annoying, and there's dozens of better ways to handle this UX. 3. The camera is jarring and limited. I get that the 45-degree-angle enforcement is carryover from the RCT legacy. But they also offer a free-rotate camera in Parkitect. However, using the built-in rotation keys ignores any custom rotation you might've done. It's frustrating as hell. So, in the end, this was a nice idea with a catchy name - but not more than that. I uninstalled and will continue playing Planet Coaster, which I find to be a wholly better game with more polish and player-focus.Show moreShow less
