Snail Games is the parent company of studio WildCard... and an extremely third rate developer. They're behind a slew of no name unimpressive games, and more recently they've created such failures as Ark Park and Dark & Light. Sketchy developers, making sketchy products. Honestly one would be smart to stay farrrrrrrrrrrrrrr away from anything they touch. However... HOWEVER! Despite their terrible reputation, this game is honestly really fun to play! It runs very well and has a lot to do. It's basically Ark: Survival Evolved, but adds it's own flavor. It makes something getting pretty stale, fun again! Keep an eye on the devs though, they may cash in and abondon the project.Show moreShow less
Let me start off by saying that calling this game version 1.0 is laughable. That's being respectable about it. Absolutely do not buy this game. It is NOT ready to be full release, and if you are expecting a game similar to Ark chock full of content, and hours upon hours of game play, this isn't it. I'm aware it was supposed to be a pixel version of Ark, which is fine, but to switch directions and add automation because of the success of Factorio/Satisfactory, is a slap in the face to anyone expecting anything of value from this title. I will once again say, absolutely do NOT buy this game. It wasn't worth 24.99, and it certainly isn't worth 39.99. This was a cash grab meant to profit off of the Ark IP further than already was done. If you want a game like this, just buy Ark. If you already own Ark, ignore this completely. EDIT: This game was bought for, and tested by my 7 year old, who was bored to tears, started over repeatedly due to lack of content, and 90% of the time exited to just go play Ark. In other words, just go buy Ark EDIT: After reading the patch notes, they don't even warrant a reinstall to play. Not worth the bandwidth or the money. I will chalk it up as a loss, and congratulate them on making 20 bucks off of me. EDIT: Furthermore, look at the comments below to check out how great this community is. I talked bad about their precious "completed game" and my child gets called stupid. I was also banned from the forums for advocating against people buying this. To add to that, I was banned by the developer and not a moderator, if that gives you some insight as to the kind of people that run the show there. EDIT: After all this time, the game hasn't improved even a smidgeon. Unless you consider controller support an improvement. (I do not, as the game was released on consoles, and should have shipped with it)Show moreShow less
Alright, let's just go ahead and get the comparisons out of the way. Most of you have played either ARK, or Minecraft, or possibly both. For those of you that haven't, I'll just go ahead and skip to you guys: It's a decent 'game' and will serve you well in solo, co-op, or online shenanigans. For those of you that have played ARK and Minecraft, here's the nitty-gritty. It's ARK. Literally, it's just a reskinned version of the game ARK. Same file structure, same settings, just blocky. So, with that being said, let's go ahead and agree that the developers smashed two games together in an attempt to grab some cash with the "ARK" name. If you're going to use elements from two games, at least take the good ones and leave out the bad ones, alright? It's obvious what the developer is doing here, and the fact that it's JUST good enough to warrant a purchase is really annoying. There's so much missing here. -Let us increase our 'Speed' stat, just like in ARK. Why did we lose that ability? Why are we slower than the speed of smell? -For the love of all that is holy, implement MC's 'Shift' function. Holding shift will keep you from falling off a ledge. Not in PixARK. Enjoy falling. -Speaking of falling...the fall damage is insanely ridiculous. Just turn it down in the settings! Oh...wait...none of the server settings actually change anything. -How come every creature in the game, except the ones that can create and maniupulate technology (read: humans), can climb up a single block without jumping? We have to jump to go up a single block. Good luck running from anything chasing you. -Pistol is useless. I regret making my first one, just to have it overheat on me randomly. Turns out, firing 12 shots makes it overheat for about 30 seconds, rendering it unusable. Regardless of how quickly you shoot those 12 shots, it will overheat after the 12th shot. -Give us a crosshair in first-person. If you're going to let us terraform and manipulate blocks, let us know what the everloving hell we're looking at. (And no, the default crosshair isn't going to cut it. That thing is horrible, gaudy, and entirely too big for this game style). That's about as far as I've gotten in the game. If you attempt to play this game like you normally play ARK, you're going to have a bad time. Do I recommend it? Yes. As a stand-alone game without any previous knowledge of what it's trying to emulate, it is 'worth' it. As someone who has played, and enjoyed, both MC and ARK...this game needs quite a bit of polish. Let's just hope they don't release any (paid) DLC before the game is actually released. Oh wait...ARK already did that... Review Edit: About the not being able to walk/run up 1-block heights - There is a setting in your DefaultGameUserSettings.ini called "PlayerMaxStepHeightOverride=50.0". If this value is changed to "100.0", players can walk up 1-block steps. This appears to be one of the only configuration tweaks that actually takes effect. Additional Edit for developer defenders - https://www.reddit.com/r/playark/comments/5r2trt/wildcards_acquisition_by_snail_games_usa_what_we/ https://www.facebook.com/officialsnailgamesusa/posts/598179020371477 April 2nd Review Update: Map generation needs a serious overhaul. There is a physical border to your map. Unlike in ARK, where the game takes place on an island (a huge one, at that), where the map border is pretty much a moot point due to it being miles out into the ocean. In PixARK, the map border is a giant glowing force field that may or may not cut through biomes that may or may not actually generate. That's right. The maps are not 'infinite' like in MC, nor is it a semi-well-thought algorithm for terrain generation. It will outright skip spawning needed biomes in map generation, forcing administrators and singleplayer folks to spin the "Wheel of Map Seeds" to find a decent habitable world. Speaking of 'Habitable', weather needs a tweak. Currently, the game uses MC's Biome system. Meaning: You can see a clear 'line in the sand' where one biome ends and another begins. This isn't an issue in most voxel/block games...except for in PixARK (ArkCraft, as I've dubbed it), the weather will freaking KILL you. So you can step 2 feet to the right and the temperature goes from a nice 36 degrees Celcius....to -18 degrees Kelvin, a blizzard, and suddenly you're starving and you have snot stalagtites hanging from your nose. A gradual biome/climate change would be wonderful (read: required). If you feel comfortable chalking some of these issues up to it being in 'Early Access', just remember that it's literally copy/pasting files from ARK...and most of them aren't working.Show moreShow less
I would not recommend this game to play, solely based on the fact that the game has quite a few cheaters and corrupt GM's. TLDR I have over 1000 hours played on official PvP servers and will share what happened to make me not recommend this game. In the last week before this review me and my one other tribe member encountered 2 players from china that we caught using ghosting to kill our tames, pixblocks (that had end-game creatures high lvl), and generators. We logged on and seen all this destroyed and caught them using the cheat to kill stuff through our multi-layered tek and steel base without having to blow through the walls and making an opening to get in. After we seen them do it we started recording, however the player tuned off the cheat as soon as we caught them and we went and killed them and their wyverns and halted their raid. They then told us "we can't stay online 24/7 and they would come back sometime when we are offline" this was obviously so they could use their cheats once again without us recording them. To note our base was possibly the biggest in all of pixark so they would still take a while to get through it even with cheats. After this we reported it to Snail Games with video of the broken/damaged structures and logs of killed tames that had no possible way of happening because the player made no opening into the base with explosives to get in and damage these structures and tames. The Snail Games GM gave an automated response and over the next few coming days after more occurrences with the cheating players I updated the ticket with more info and more pics and videos to get these players banned before they cheated their way into the base. We knew these cheating players were hopping between servers and kept an eye on the server they played on most, we then decided to set up a raid base there and take our raid gear and find them and get them while they were offline so that they couldn't use cheats. We wiped their base and killed all their creatures and during the last few vaults we destroyed they logged in, they came at us with their fire wyvern and we both attacked it together with our high level wyverns, however their wyverns HP was insta-regening everytime it took chunk damage (they were obviously using a cheat) and we couldnt kill there dragon and sadly ours died (we did end up killing there dragon when they turned the cheat off after we called them out for cheating). At this point they started accusing us of cheating and told us "we have reported you and snail games is a chinese company and will take our side, so say goodbye to everything you own" I have pictures of them saying this which I sent to the GM I still had an open ticket with. After a day me and my tribe mate got banned even though we weren't cheating and the players from china were cheating, so I guess they were right when they said snail games would take their side, I do find this kind of racist considering how long I had a ticket in and had done the right thing informing them that these players were cheating, yet they did nothing and WE got banned instead. After we were banned we got a friend who hadn't played in a long time to check out our official server and what was happening, and to our surprise the GM that banned us had let the cheating players into our base to raid us now that we couldn't defend it :( we had so much tek and other high level stuff and I wouldnt be surprised if we had the biggest base in all of official pixark servers. It's sad to see a company treat players this way and allow favouritism/racism, and allow an unfair disadvantage. All in all I STRONGLY do not recommend this game if this is how they treat people. And to note my ticket against these players is still current and hasn't been replied to. Thanks for reading.Show moreShow less

You guys can see my Hours played I have had a lot of hope for this game and I have found many glitches and aloud them time to fix them however them wanting to release the game while there are still game breaking glitches is beyond me. Turrets still shoot through walls making some bases still unraidable and just ruins the game completely. Do not buy this game if you like life, or until they finally fix these game breaking glitches or hell hire me to fix them lmao. do somthing.Show moreShow less
I never write reviews. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is my first review ever; so the fact that I've been inspired to actually write a review says something. I'm also a professional game developer of 17 years... not that it matters, but I definitely know my games, usually inside and out. As a fan of both Ark and Minecraft, I have to say that I'm simply blown away that this game exists. It's pretty solid and I've not see any serious game bugs (some UI stuff needs fixing, but nothing major). Most of the complaints I've seen in reviews revolves around the network issues involved with the game; and not the game itself. Network issues, I don't know about yet, as I haven't jumped on a server, but I'm pretty sure any of those will get resolved quickly. I see a handful of issues regarding PVP and balance stuff in multiplayer; give it a bit of time and all that stuff will be fixed; probably even within a few days if it's a serious enough issue that's turning away players. The devs would be very wise to jump on these issues immediately. I can say for sure that it's worth the money at this point in time. The developers definitely have a winner here. I've only played a few hours so far, but it seems like there's tons to do. As much as you could do in Ark + as much as you would do in Minecraft. At one point I decided to go full Minecraft mode on it and start digging a tunnel down. I half expected to only find rock... boy was I wrong. After visiting the "museum" in game I was shocked to discover there are probably 15+ different ores and special block types to be found underground at various depths. Woah. So Minecraft strip mining and taming dinos... I mean, you can't lose if you enjoy those. Recommended! EDIT: Ok an edit to address concerns from the comments. Yes, I don't have that many hours in so far... that's what happens when you have 2 kids and a life. I'm a casual player by neccesity... I'd play 8 hours a day if I could, but I can't. That said, this is an "initial" review. If the game turns out to be crap 20 hours in, this wlil be the first place to get updated to reflect it. My friends and I are enjoying it so far.Show moreShow less
I've also got this game on my Xbox. Was tempted to get it for the switch too. But def not worth the price you gotta pay for it. I've played Off and On since launch. Xbox and PC. Let me tell you about how Xbox went first. (I'm also leaving this as a review for the game too) Back then i didn't know this was a Chinese IP until i did some digging. Little did I know this is what it would lead to. Launch on Xbox had it's problems. Constant Dcs and crashing. There was a point where you couldn't fly anywhere because you'd go over maybe 5 blocks and freeze in place for a second. My guess is because the server couldn't keep up with your dino speed (back when it was a thing) You could also use the dino speed as in advantage on Fury server to see peoples bases on the bottom of the floor. That almost ruined PvP. But what really ruined it was the fact that Dinos and structures were super super weak against players. IDK if it's still like it now. But you could almost break into any base with a bone sword. So flying slowly started to destroy the playerbase. As the weeks went by (on Xbox) there was little communication. Probably because it's an overseas dev and they had no idea how to communicate with the community. You should have seen it. Us poor people were BEGGING on twitter for anything regarding patches or bug awareness. But we got nothing. After a few months there'd be a patch. We wouldn't even know what it was for. There was no twitter update or anything even on this forum (myself included) people would ask about the state of the xbox game. And then it got worse. It came to a point to where the servers got so laggy, it broke everyones bases. Players were being trapped either in their base (which became half rendered) or innocent fly byers who flew over the base and got perma stuck in the air. It was hilarious, but terrorfying. The only way i was able to get out of it was to have a buddy get just close enough to kill me so i could respawn. Your flyer would stay in the air though forever. If i remember right. I think they ended up rolling back servers and it basically just left craters and ruins all around the map. So that problem was gone. Another HUGE problem was that there were so many people that played back then. That resources like trees wouldn't respawn. It was a barren wasteland. Luckly i was smart enough to learn to plant tree saps underground and grow a forest to keep my resources up. In the end they ended up closing those servers and opening up new ones. But by then it was too late. The player base was shattered. Games dead. There was even a point where players were blocking off castles and ruins. I think they managed to fix that problem though. Outside of all of the problems. The game had it's moments. When they opened up new servers. They were less buggy. Mainly because there was only a few people left after the wipes. So i decided to rent my own server. And that leads me to this post now. THE SERVER HOSTING. Now if you're a fan of the vanilla experience, more power to you. I did the whole vanilla thing for so long i've grown bored and impatient. I thought being able to rent a server i'd have power to make the game exactly how I wanted it. Back then and still right now I WAS WRONG. i've tried 2 big server providers so far. And nothing works. Which makes sense because of all the PC non dedicated are all basically vanilla. Except one server which has mods. HOW DID THEY DO IT I MUST KNOW. But anyways. G portal and Nitrado server hosting doesn't work with a spit if you want to make a more custom player experience. Back then I think some settings stuck if you rented a server for Xbox. But now as i am on PC, nothing works. I can't change XP multiplier outside of the xp you get for killing and harvesting. I can't get Taming speed to work. Resource gathering is broken. Nitrado settings won't save and g portal settings save, but don't work. And they have no mod support. If i'm wrong about this and someone knows how to fix at least 1 or 2 things. I'd be so happy. But still the point is that even right now as all the servers are basically empty, nothing works. I never understood why they let the game die and be riddled with bugs. Maybe it's because they are understaffed or maybe it's the overseas thing. But they had all the chances to make it right. And they still havn't. Right now i'm confined to Singleplayer because at least i can add mod and modify settings that way. But outside of the Singleplayer experience. The games a disaster. I honestly wish i had built a PC back then because from what I heard the experience was much more pleasant. But to anyone trying to get this game outside of PC. DON'T DO IT. And if you do want this for PC. Stick to Singleplayer. Because online is dead. Thanks.Show moreShow less

THE GMs DONT EVENT UNDERSTAND THE GAME. Ive shown with pictures the problem, and they just want my coord to raid me. Dont buy this game. Temporary Reclean Up : This review pertains exclusively to Official Chaos servers. Updates have become less frequent, with a noticeable shift from the previous monthly updates. The development team used to excel at promptly sharing patch notes on Steam and auto-posting notifications to Discord, informing players about server downtimes. However, there were two significant incidents in which no prior notice was provided. These occurrences were separated by a six-month gap and affected different regions but involved the same group of players. In both cases, the server went down without any warning, and it was only after the fact that notifications were issued. Furthermore, during these specific raids targeting a group exploiting bugs, a bug that allowed Tek Sniper Rifles to penetrate Tek Force Fields was exploited, even though it had been patched six months earlier. A developer did respond to this review, but they failed to address the persistent issue of the "build down airship" bug for six months. Interestingly, a newly discovered and reported bug was swiftly resolved during the second encounter with the same group. They had been utilizing a "take 1 damage" bug, and when I reciprocated with the same bug, it was miraculously fixed right away, without the extended six-month wait. Despite these issues, the game has the potential to be excellent, particularly when it's available on sale for ten dollars. It boasts a wealth of content, including numerous bosses and dungeons. Although it may appear somewhat inactive, the community remains asleep, awaiting a new map, and map regeneration.Show moreShow less
