Charming and engaging game play loop of making and selling potions to make enough money to buy ingredients and gear to experiment with new potions. The mechanics really made me feel like a medieval alchemist, experimenting is fun, failures frustrating and successes rewarding both mechanically and emotionally. Obviously the rest isn't there yet, but developers, if you're reading this, you HAVE TO make the vendors more accessible. Whatever RNG formula that decides when they show up would spread them out so far sometimes as to be down right game breaking. If the dwarf doesn't show up for 20 days that's fine, he just sells 'shortcuts', but if the wizard or herbalist don't show up for 20 days the game is in a total stale mate. Maybe make a 'go to town' option, or put a shorter cap on the spread like if they haven't shown up in 5 days they pop in guaranteed? Other than that I'm looking forward to future content. There's a morality gauge that doesn't do anything yet, maybe make some potions stronger/weaker or easier/harder to craft based on morality? I'd love to see a story element added via recurring characters like the herbalist and the brewer and the fisherman etc. And upgrades for the shop and especially the garden. I wish it kept track of how much I was spending to make potions, the profit margin was always just a guess, so a ledger element would be cool. Also the music is great but a bit thin, it gets repetitive quick. Final verdict: Cute and fun mini-game that in it's current state didn't really feel worth the sticker price but shows a lot of potential. Maybe buy, for sure follow.Show moreShow less

I like this game a lot. Its a cool concept, with a fun and innovative way of crafting potions that feels very rewarding. So after that glowing review, why am I voting this game down? Because this game is not finished. The developers have even said its not finished themselves, but then released version 1.0 anyway and bailed. Their last update as of this review was December 2023, and they haven't released any news about any update progress since. It sucks when the developers bail on an unfinished game, it's even worse when the game has such a good concept like this one. If/When the developers start updating this game again, i'll be changing my recommendation, but right now I just feel cheated by buying a partially finished game Overall: Don't buy until Devs start updating again EDIT: game has been updated as of Dec 6. 2024, will play and update review when I have a chanceShow moreShow less
It's fun at first but after a while gets kinda boring and tedious, there's really not that much to do and the customers and sales people are so repetitive it's painful they all want the same potions for the same things "I need to climb a tower but I don't know how, do you have a potion for that?" Yes of course I have a potion for that! Everyone who's come in here is climbing that damn tower! I've made 50 levitation potions today already so yes here you go! I mean my god what's going on in this town? Is there some sort of Rapunzel infestation?! Edit: Much better since recent update!Show moreShow less
I can't recommend the game currently due to the fact there's just no updates or communication from the creators. They just post sales and holiday events, nothing else. Edit: 2 months later, they have started posting devlogs on what is already in the game. Still no actual new information much less any updates. The game is nearing 1 year without anything substantial added. I would recommend that this is a "wait and see." Check back every now and then to see if development picks up with any sort of consistency or slowly gets abandoned.Show moreShow less

If this game was a potion, I'd say that it has a very well-developed base, with many innovative properties ripe for expanding upon, has a pleasant smell and an appealing texture. But the rest of the potion was made by taking that wonderful base and pouring water. More, more, more water. More water. Endless deluge of the clear liquid, enough to fill the entire cauldron, flood the lab floor, and ruin your downstairs neighbour's ceiling. In the end, the aquatic ordeal leaves the potion completely devoid of anything it could've been, and you end up pouring it down the drain. It starts out fantastic. There isn't much of a plot, you're just a young alchemist who stumbled upon an abandoned workshop (biggest wish fulfillment of 2023) and decided to reopen it. People ask you for potions, so that's what you get them. The brewing system is ingenious: adding ingredients moves your "potion marker" on the effects map, and in order to get a particular effect, you have to reach its designated point, and heat the potion up to a boil. At first, the map is pure joy to explore. You're constantly finding new effects, collecting experience books, finding out how the map itself works, and unlocking milestones that make you move forward in the "Path of the Alchemist", which unlocks new NPCs, new ingredients, new merchants. But then... you slowly start noticing the unmistakable flavour of repetition. Everybody wants a healing potion. Sure, I can brew you a healing potion. Oh, what's this? I'm out of a critical ingredient! But I can replace it with something else that "moves right", I'll just save both recipes so I won't have to do it again. Oh, but in order to get more exotic effects you have to move further into the map. And it's just so slow. So many ingredients just so you can explore the map. The same path, over and over again. Take the ingredient, smash it into pulp, put it in the cauldron, repeat. And again. And again. Note that many actions are achieved by the "pumping power of the mouse" so to speak. So to crush an object in the mortar, you literally have to crush it by holding it with the mouse cursor. Same for stirring, same for pouring water, same for using the bellows. Not only this becomes extremely tedious later on, it also makes crafting tier 3 potions an exercise in ridiculous mouse precision (it's not about the recipe, it's about making the potion marker be exactly in the right place. Hint: doing it is not fun). Eventually, a new option shows up: you get an alchemy machine that's supposed to be able to craft legendary recipes. Wow, a gameplay change! Exciting! Until it turns out that those recipes still need lots of "normal" potions to be made, and often these potions require a weird combination of properties that will have you make your potion take a very long trip across the alchemy map... And that's what this really boils down to. Everything is just so shallow and tedious. There is a reputation system, but it's pretty much a bare minimum. There is some dialogue with unique NPCs (including a discount Geraldo del Riviero), but it's quite rare, and incredibly short. There is a barter system with a nice dressing of difficulty levels and topics of conversation, but in practice it's just a QTE, and not a fun one. Like I said: there's a solid base, but it ends up drowning in an industrial amount of water. There's more to complain about, such as the annoying way the game provides you with ingredients (they're working on this part at least), but I think I've said enough. To wrap things up - some statistics. This is a game with 17k reviews at the time of writing, indicating a very successful, well-known indie game. And yet, the achievements paint a quite rapid dropoff rate. Some 50% of players have completed the first chapter, only 25% completed the third, 11% the fifth (I gave up right before that)... and only 0.9% have beaten chapter 10, the final one. Part of it is probably because a lot of people are drawn in by the unique art style without considering what kind of game it is, but I think a lot of people simply find the game gets very boring very fast. That's what happened to me at least, and I have an inkling I wasn't the only one. Curator pageShow moreShow less

I'd just like to preface by saying that this game is by no means bad - in fact, it is quite good. The artstyle is very pleasing, the sound design is crisp, and the UI is very clean and manageable. For the hour I played, I enjoyed it quite a bit. While Potion Craft is therapeutic, I couldn't help but feel as though it got rather boring quickly. Personally, I wish the actual "alchemy" process was more involved, instead of just clicking and dragging, being that it is the main gameplay loop. There is a little too much breathing room for a process that should feel far more honed. As much as I appreciate that you are given time to explore and experiment with different potions, the experimenting process is somewhat dulled by the fact that you can see clearly what exactly will and wont work ahead of time, rather than actually discovering that the potion is useless, volatile, or any other undesirable characteristic. I do wish there was a lot more visual feedback for tinkering with potions, and I'm of the belief that it could use some heavy improvements or even a complete redesign. My final complaint for the game is that while graphically it's sound, there is too little color for a game about alchemy, where in real life, the color of a chemical is largely important. The amount of tan/light brown that is plastered everywhere is disconnecting and makes the game feel somewhat gloomy and spiritless. All in all, the game seems promising, but I would not recommend it in it's current state for anybody looking to sink more than a couple hours into it. Hopefully the developers are willing and able to give it the attention it needs to properly fill the niche alchemy/potion making genre.Show moreShow less
