I am not going to dispute the quality of Quake, as I personally believe that it is one of the finest First Person Shooters ever made. I would also argue that the game still holds up today. What I am going to draw attention to is the simple fact that the version on sale on Steam does not have its soundtrack. This is quite unnacceptable. While you can get it back through mods the fact that this is necessary is an horrendous oversight that plainly should not be tolerated. Arguably the soundtrack is a major draw if not the major draw to this game. Great ambient work by Trent Reznor that sets the mood as a perfect compliment for the level design and art design. Without it, much of the atmosphere is lost, and much of what made it a special complete experience is lost. There simply is no excuse for leaving this out. However, as I said, it is a fine game. Even with that in mind, simply put we should demand better treatment for our classics than what we have on display here.Show moreShow less
INCLUDES THE OST NOW THANK YOU NIGHTDIVEShow moreShow less
What they don't tell you is that this version has no music. My understanding is that there are ways to get the OST and have it play in game, but as is this experience is incomplete.Show moreShow less
They added proper widescreen support, fov options, achievements, native bot support, enhanced graphics settings, proper utilization of post processing effects (all toggable), included all dlc and new chapters, even quake 64, in a single package, and the whole thing is done by NightDive Studios nonetheless, fantastic, fantastic work!!!Show moreShow less
After the update, it slaps your screen with ZeniMax´s EULA, with two key reasons why I'm not recommending it as right now: -Shady privacy policy, overextending towards what they do on your computer, not just from the game, including MAC Address and personal data shared to third-parties. -Unclear if the game, as a whole, is getting close sourced, or forbidding you from doing what has been done in the last 20 years. Ok but why is any of this important? Let me give you a quick rundown: 1. The game was released in 1995 and open sourced around 2000. 2. Thanks to the open sourced code, the community did, throughout the decades: 2.1. Lots of maps, custom campaigns and most recently, mapjams were made. 2.2. Big overhaul mods were done, like Quoth, Arcane Dimensions, Copper and dump_progs. 2.3. There's a rain of source ports that surpassed GLQuake by hundreds of miles and several hundreds of kilometers: they make the game playable and/or beautiful, the most popular ones being Quakespasm, Mark V, FTE and Darkplaces. 2.4. Multiplayer-focused source ports. 2.5. A map editor that stood out and made the mapping workflow tenfold easier: Trenchbroom. 3. If you read the EULA, they say you can't cheat. How about I /noclip my way out of here? Until they change their privacy policy for good, I'm downvoting this game. If you don't care about any of what I mentioned, the vanilla game should be a fun experience (and for nostalgia's sake...)Show moreShow less

The music is missing from this version of quake 1 and 2(I haven’t tried 3 yet). When I buy something. I expect to get the complete experience. Especially when the product is this old. I don’t mind tinkering around to get the game working as long as it is complete. But if the game is not complete and I need to find another source (the internet for example) to get the missing component. I cant really be ask to bothered with it. It’s like buying a puzzle. But you need to download(or by other means) to get the last couple of pieces. It is just frustratingly. On the up side the gameplay is excilent. As long if you like old nineties fps games.Show moreShow less

Quake 1 and Quake 2 Steam version lack the soundtrack. So basically, no Nine Inch Nails in Quake 1 (or any ambient sounds for that matter), and no Rob Zombie and sonic Mayhem for Quake 2. IT is a complete rip-off for anyone who played the original games. They even have enough audacity to leave the NIN symbol on the nailgun box, yet ther is no NIN music whatsoever. My suggestion is buying the CD version from E-bay or amazon. The steam version is not the complete game. It lacks the entire"RedBook" audio tracks. Please do not reply to this review with links to the pirate version of the music, or the mod that plays it, It is NOT a legal solution in most countries, and it will probably get you banned.Show moreShow less
