Fun Game so far but Do Not Buy Bethesda withheld the information that the game uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper until 24 hours before release. Bethesda also withheld the information that both the pre-order content and Deluxe Edition content require a 3rd-party Bethesda.net account until 24 hours before release on the game's Steam page. Because the main game can be played without a Bethesda account but the DLC content cannot, this in effect holds paid for content hostage until you create a Bethesda.net account. Bethesda's own website does not mention the need for a Bethesda account on their own support page on System requirements (as of 1:40 AM Central Time May 14th 2019, 3.7 hours after release. Withholding this information which would have impacted pre-order sales until right before release should be considered a form of fraud/false advertising. Both measures would have taken more than a day to add to the game's code and Bethesda would have known about it for a substantial amount of time before release. The only reason to have withheld this info would be to prevent the inclusion of these requirements from affecting pre-orders. This is greedy and unethical corporate behavior. TLDR: Good Game but Bethesda withheld critical game info until 24 hours before release in order to gain more pre-orders and are now holding extra content hostage until you create a Bethesda account Addendum: As a response to comments, let me clarify: A: The ease of creating a Bethesda account or the need to do so, as well as the inclusion of 3rd party DRM are not the issue that I am raising. It is the fact that the need create an account and the inclusion of additional DRM was hidden until 24 hours prior to release. The only logical reason to for the Publisher to withhold this information was to protect pre-order sales. I and I suspect many others, waited until system requirements were released before pre-ordering the game. The appropriate time time for this information to be released would have been when the system requirements were released. I know of many people who would have not pre-ordered the game just because it uses Denuvo or requires yet another account to be created. Even after release, the official Bethesda support site article on system requirements does not mention the need for a Bethesda Account (found at https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/41842/~/what-are-the-system-requirements-for-rage-2-on-pc%3F ). B: As for Denuvo, it is well within reason for a company to want to protect their product from piracy. I do not begrudge the Publisher for including 3rd party DRM. Instead I begrudge them for withholding information on it until 24 hours prior to the games release. C: As for reviewing the game itself, I have found it fun and enjoyable. I am only recommending that you not buy this product due to the way the publisher withheld important information about the product almost to the last minute. It is my opinion that this corporate behavior should not be rewarded by giving a review that is encouraging others to buy the product.Show moreShow less
"Gorgeous open world & Engaging FPS" Possibly the most beautiful Open World FPS game right now Btw, Steam > Epic StoreShow moreShow less
Would not recommend unless on sale. Its a decent game but its not worth of its current price tag. Contents start to run dry and become repetitive after awhile. But the gun play is good and dynamic.Show moreShow less
In A Nutshell 🔵 Pros + Superb graphics quality, delivering top-notch visuals in just about every field. + Immense game world filled with many locations to discover, side-activities to complete, upgrades to collect. + Good variety of weapons, vehicles, powers, tools, projects, consumables to find, upgrade and customize throughout the adventure, each with a very distinct feel and use. + Exciting, fast paced, well-polished FPS combat delivering gore-filled, spectacular action at every corner and location. + A bit stiff, but definitely very fun, decently made driving model and car-to-car combat system. 🔴 Cons - Missing audio lines with several dialogues, some even belonging to the main quest, disrupting narrative. - UPDATED: Difficulty is currently BUGGED for some players, changing to different values at each game start. Without notice. - Story and generally characters found in it are "alright" but just that, failing to create a really involving, exciting main story, instead just an average quality one. - Small but annoying quality of life oversights: absence of brightness / gamma sliders, inability to remove hit-markers, forced aim assist on vehicles, forced Bloom effect. Rage 2 is the latest title from Avalanche and ID Software, set in the same post-apocalyptic Earth seen in the first chapter. Impersonating an either male or female member of a group of elite law-bringers of the Wasteland, the Rangers, players will soon find themselves as one of the last ones, as an old enemy thought defeated returns. This second installment takes on a fully open-world formula, expanding what already seen in the previous chapter doubling, or tripling down, on locations to find, upgrades, resource types, tools, consumables, vehicles... in short, there is A LOT of stuff to find in Rage 2, players will be doing this by progressively exploring the game world, clearing out locations from bandits, mutants, fanatics and other wasteland threats. Several locations have their unique story and traits to them, while as expected by an open world this big, a good amount of them is just a "copy-paste" instead, feeling a bit repetitive in the long run. The upgrades / progression menus are just massive and feature tons of elements. Combat, as expected by Id Software, is as good as it gets, but lacking challenge for more hardcore players, even on hardest setting. Vehicle combat gets imported straight out of Mad Max game seen a few years ago, and that is a really good thing. The game is not all gold, as some negatives stand: bugged conversations resulting muted make players lose track of event at times, story is okay but not up to par with the quality of other elements, while lack of extended PC options for some features is annoying. In conclusion, Rage 2 is a really good open world FPS, featuring good content amount (25-30h) for those who want to complete everything, and whose only real issues are not enough challenge for veteran players, absence of some options, and the dialogue bug which hopefully will get a fix soon. Not everyone might like the open-world progression style, but that goes to taste entirely. It's a game I definitely recommend to FPS, post-apocalyptic fans, and of course fans of the first Rage Liked this review, and want to see more of the same quality? In-depth Feature Analysis 🎮 Gameplay In Rage 2, Gameplay is divided into Exploration, Customization, Quests and Combat. Exploration is performed mostly on vehicles as far as the open world is concerned, while on foot when clearing out dungeons, outposts, bandit hideouts and so on. There is a good variety of vehicles to choose from, each unlocked by stealing it and bringing it back to one of the main cities. Only ArkTech vehicles (the Phoenix) are modifiable with upgrades though, so most will stay as they are. Completing a location will reveal nearby ones sometimes, while others need to be discovered by going close enough on the map, or getting the location from notes found in other places, dialogues, or information vendors. Each location has a set number of crates, resources to find in it, some every well hidden, perks can help. Customization in Rage 2 is extensive. First of all Feltrite, a mineral found in crates, meteorites, veins, is used as currency to unlock upgrade Tiers, while individual Upgrade Perks have to be unlocked with Components of a specific category: weapon mods for guns, nanotrite components for abilities, and so on. Crafting resources, and Cores, can be respectively spent into crafting consumables, and spent at the Doctor in a certain location to acquire powerful passive bonuses. All of this is simply acquired by exploring and clearing locations, doing missions, roaming events, and is much less complicated than it seems. Quests are divided into ones given by NPCs, main ones of course, and bounties found on boards. While side NPCs will ask you to do something for them , most of the time they won't give out a reward, instead bounties and main quests usually do give one. Generally the whole quest system is not really that good and feels underwhelming at times. It does the job but just that, and many bounties feel meager in reward. 📖 Story The story of Rage 2 is decent enough, and also in this case "does the job", but none of characters. or events, are particularly engaging or interesting. 👊 Combat System Combat in Rage 2 is as good as it gets, seriously. Fast paced, filled with gore, varied enemies, and weapons, skills with really an unique, diverse feel to them, fans of FPS action will not be disappointed. The Overdrive mechanics rewards combo-making and fast kills with a brief burst of better damage and health regen, while the many weapons, skill upgrade keep it fresh and varied. 💰 Content & Pricing Priced at 60€, offering a total of 25-30 hours content for those who really want to explore every location and side-activity, and generally very good quality content, I definitely can recommend this game at full price for fans, while others just interested might want to wait a partial sale. 🔗 Balance & Challenge Generally even on the highest difficulty, players will have the upper hand in all but the most difficult dungeons and boss fights. Hardcore fps veterans will probably not be happy with it. There are no major unbalanaces or cheese to speak of. Technical Analysis 🎥 Graphics Top quality graphics, with incredible landscapes, great quality textures, models, effects. Expect to see what best PC gaming in 2019 can offer about graphics with this game. The only dent would be facial animations, not up to par with quality. 🔊 Sound Very good soundtrack and effects, enhancing the feel of every shot, action considerably. 🔩 Performance & Stability The game runs perfectly ( > 60 FPS) on 1440p and 144hz, maxed out settings. [GTX1080, i7 4820K, 16GB RAM]. For this quality, a very good optimization work has been done. No crashes or stability issues to report. 💻 Artificial Intelligence Enemy AI is average for this type of game, I expected it to be more advanced that it actually is, but does the job in the end. 🏠 Quality of Life Some problems such as missing on/off of certain features (hitmarkers, bloom), and no gamma slider. 🐛 Bugs & Issues Bugs with difficulty for some players, changing it randomly. Conclusion Rage 2 is definitely a great open-world FPS, not perfect and with some issues, but still capable of delivering a fun, engaging quality experience for this genre.Show moreShow less
Oof. The state of gaming today. This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review. I'm a 40 year old gamer, which means I can buy every game I want, for the highest spec system and have next to no time to play anything. I remember playing the first Rage, vaguely - I had fun. But something has changed in gaming for me, and I'm not sure if it's was always like this, or gaming has just become mainstream and diluted as a result. I'm only a few hours in and I can tell this game is boring. It's the same old stuff, over and over. Run, jump, shoot. Mutants, lunatics, cars. Upgrade everything, and don't worry about why it all seems so uninspired and repetitive. Your gun/suit/car levels up, and the enemies level up. You're just doing the same thing over and over and over. It's just not fun anymore. And this colorful game seems to fall into a bunch of unoriginal traps. Save your money.Show moreShow less
+ Great graphics. + Great gameplay. - That story though. + Great voice acting. + Gory! Basically just bloody awesome.Show moreShow less
Bethesda didn't put up any information for Denuvo or Bethesda.net until release. Which is pretty scummy. You don't require a bethesda account to play but if you don't link one to the game you don't have access to any of your preorder content or deluxe edition content. The game runs fine, looks decent and gunplay is great. Bethesda is just being same old ♥♥♥♥ bethesda. However i do appreciate that i was able to buy this on steam.Show moreShow less
*UPDATE 02* if nightmare difficulty doesn't kill you every 10min then it's a bug and you are playing on easy in pause menu, go to difficulty, change to easy, back out to the game, go back in pause menu and change to hard/nightmare. and it should work. *UPDATE 01* they added in-game store to get unlockable weapon skins with real money but it's just for instant unlock and you still can unlock them without paying from the 2 skin packs that are available on their store one of them is Mutant Bash area skin pack that you can get easily within the game at the vendor at the Mutant Bash area with arena points, no need to for real money other one is golden weapon pack wellspring selling each golden weapon skin for 10k in-game currency no need for real money so you can get both weapon skin packs without paying any real money - Review - finally the game i always wanted smooth 1440p ultra 60fps with gtx 1070 and i5 6600 smooth gameplay and awesome gunplay fast skill upgrade process driving is ok, better than JC 3/4 but default key bindings are awful be sure to change them asap a lot of unlockables and skills available and they are mostly USEFUL minor problems with subtitle not showing and voice not playing that you can fix with pressing esc button and go back played 10h without any crash 9/10 - Review : UPDATE 1 the number of dungeon and outposts are too much that on NG+ you don't remember most of them "if they add NG+" and they aren't copy - paste like "generation zero" THE LEVEL DESIGN IS BEST " god tier " "i guess you can clear all map in 30 hours on rush and 50 hours normally" world feels alive half of cars looks like mad max "love it" - Review : UPDATE 2 it's a perfect mix of mad max and rage but instead of being batman you are doomslayer and bullets have their own weight a rocket launcher is not a toy gun you don't need to shot 500 rockets to a boss like SERIOUS SAM they die with 8 rockets what i want to say is " gun damage is realistic " even pistol are deadly and with upgrades they become even more deadly enemies are deadly too be careful about yourself "early game" and be sure to play at least on "Hard" , never try " Normal " and no enemies aren't dumb and i like their artificial intelligence " i'm playing on hard dunno about normal "Show moreShow less
SO, im gonna give my full opinion on the game and the Digital Deluxe edition. As you can see I played 30h+ of this game. In 30h+ you might ask that I just finished the campain, well no. In 30h+ I did the campain, discovered every single location and 100%'ed them, got every Ark power ups/weapons, every upgrades for powers and every weapons and the Pheonix. The campain is easy, like really easy and simple, boom go there, talk to that guy, go there, do this, kill this boss and BOOM you are done. I probably finished the campain in less then 10 hours. The Campain -fast, real fast (<10h) -kinda not making sense -not enough time to fully appreciate the characters or enemies -boring last boss The campain was in my opinion too short and kinda boring, there was cool stuff here and there but, meh.. The Open world -gorgeous (and I mean it, it's beautiful) -empty -not a lot to do -Ark or storage container search is boring as hell. -loot is boring and not very exiting -too few enemies After looking for every single location and clearing every single one to 100%, there is absolutly nothing to do, okay there is races and the Arena thing but they are trash. By the way, the "you see it, you drive it" thing they were promoting, yea nah. You will only use the Pheonix because every other car is trash. And there is not enough roaming enemies in cars and foot, we need more. The Activities In the open world you got outposts, missing ranger search, authority sentry, convoys, random locations, mutation nest, big boy boss place, arena, races. But apart from the outposts, everything else is boring. Authority sentries, easy as hell even on level 10, not interesting enough. Convoys, do like 6 to get upgrades points and thats it, you are done. Random locations, loot there but not exiting, I can count 4 interesting locations but the rest is boring. Mutation nest, like an outpost but with weak enemies and you can do them in 2 min, kinda boring. Big boy boss place, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EASY just got overdrive with the shotgun and it's gone in 10 seconds. Missing ranger, hold left ctrl and that's it, like 5 location were like a little puzzle and that's it, meh.. Outposts, that's actually fun, it's were you will use the amazing combat of the game. Races, why does this exist? it's really boring. Arena, same thing everytime, rewards not exiting enough to repeat the same thing over and over again. The Combat I can't say anything, the combat is amazing, smooth and entertaining. Take DOOM 2016, add a few juicy powers and you get Rage 2's combat. You got power up's that can send enemies to the moon, some weapon are fun to use, trully well done on that part. The Powers you have 7 abilities, and you will be using 4 of them, the best ones. The one that send them flying and 1 shot them (Vortex fully upgraded is really fun) The weapons Shotgun, thats it, that's what you only need. The Digital Deluxe Useless and if you buy it off steam you will have problems. I had to contact Bugthesda support to get my Deluxe to work because you need a Bethesda.net account to make it work, and it doesn't even work ! If you can't see your deluxe edition, you will have to contact them and they will add the thing manually to your account. You get nothing interesting out of it (for now), you get the BFG from DOOM that you will never use. You get a 1 time ressource booster. You get a little flag to put on your car (wow) and some cheats (just fun thing). NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. At least if you guys put the rewards for the Pre order, then it would've been good, but NO. Conclusion Im kinda disappointed, I played Mad Max and I loved it even if there was some flaws but less then this game. The game is really easy, every boss fights, fully upgraded or not, is super easy. No enemy is going to be a challenge and you will be using only the shotgun because it's the best weapon. Some quests are bugged (the events). The story is short af. The combat is cool tho. And after a bit you are invincible kinda and you don't need any of the ressources. I won't recommend the game full price, and DON'T GET THE DELUXE EDITON, save your money, get the game on a huge sale. Edit : What is kinda really disapointing in this game is that in all the trailer the game was promoted like a goofy, wacky not serious game were you blow ♥♥♥♥ up and nothing is serious BUT in the game it's super serious and it's kinda boring. Edit 2 : For all of you wondering (after I saw the comment of BobZombie), I played the game on Hard.Show moreShow less
