Its an excellent game, no doubt about that. 9/10 But I wanted to just say thanks to the devs for giving original owners the Re-Mars-Tered edition for free, especially when other developers would of just charged owners again.Show moreShow less
GAME BREAKING BUG. This was a great game back in the day and it's a good remaster. My sole issue with it is that a non destructible bridge has only half loaded in and means you can't finish the game. One of the last missions you're tasked with destroying enemies and protecting a truck to its destination, issue is you're not following the truck yourself, you're tracking it with a missile launcher and the truck goes to where this bridge should be and drops down and loops back round over and over again. The game itself thinks it's there, in and out of mission the AI just straight drives off it, waypoints (which normally divert around destroyed bridges) just go straight across the gap. As far as I could see from the Discord and the Steam community, this does happens sometimes. The devs do not know why. There is no fix planned and if this happens to you, you won't be able to complete the game. As per the devs response I've tried a fresh install a few times, including on a different SSD, it seems to be linked to the save itself which baffles me. Since this glitch the game has started to get worse, in the mission the truck AI now sometimes gets confused and tries to drive up mountains it can't possibly get up, or the drivers just pull over in the middle of the road and start walking around which leads to mission failure. I also started to experience a glitch that sends me travelling really fast along the road with the standard running animation, thing is I'm travelling at 20 times the running speed and am almost floating along the surface. no way to stop or slow down until I hit a mountain or a vehicle etc. I didn't experience a single glitch before this bridge and since it's been a nightmare. Great game that's left a really sour taste in my mouth because it's broken so close to the end. Lets face it I'm mainly annoyed because I'd collected all 300 ores and nearly all other collectables before starting this mission!Show moreShow less
Any game that gives it's remasters to the customers who already own the original gets a 10/10 in my book.Show moreShow less
It pains me to not recommend this since I love Red Faction Guerrilla but the remastered version feels so much worse gameplay wise from the original. I played both on steam and the only improvement in the remastered version was graphics (though not enough to warrant the game being over 3x the size of the original). Other than that, the controls felt much worse, the AI was much worse, and the physics just felt off compared to the original. This game is f#cking awesome and definitely one of the best of its time, but stick to the original for a better experience.Show moreShow less
Ground textures were updated, Better shadow rendering, God rays, New shading system. Free for current owners!?! That's something From Software should learn.Show moreShow less
I'm unable to finish the game becuase of a bug that didn't spawn a bridge, so the AI I was escorting got stuck in a loop. This happened near the end of the game, there is no solution, want to finish the game? start a new save and hope it won't happen again.Show moreShow less
This is obvious a test to see if people are still interested in the Red Faction series, so buy this game so they'll make another one.Show moreShow less
"Remastered"? More like rebroken! ALL of the bugs from the original at launch are all back in full force even years after the "Re-Mars-Tered" edition was released and supposedly patched. RNG Artillery killing objectives leading to an instant fail, Escort AI bugging out and staying where they spawned or were last scripted to stop instead of progressing after passing mission flags, the occasional enemy bullet doing 10x it's normal damage, enemies spawning into vehicles you were already driving and opening fire on you, audio logs and objectives simply falling through the map. It's ALL here! TL:DR Version: Don't bother, just play the original RFG.Show moreShow less
devs are instant badasses for giving this free to owners of the original.Show moreShow less
IMPORTANT NOTE: This game is really difficult to rate on a black-and-white ("Good" or "Bad") scale. It really deserves a "Meh" rating to split the difference—the reasons for which I will highlight below. THE ONE-SENTENCE SUMMARY... Red Faction: Guerrilla is a great way to casually blow of Steam by breaking a ton of stuff, but isn’t something you really need to go out of your way to play. [➕] THE POSITIVES + SMASH!!! As is the cornerstone of every Red Faction game, breaking stuff is still a ton of fun! You don’t get quite the “digging through the earth” feeling of the earlier installments, but anything manmade goes! Enjoy leveling Mars back to its red, dust-covered foundations! + The GAMEPLAY. Is fairly intuitive. It’s not the best out there, but it holds up fairly well considering the game is over a decade old. + DLC: Demons Of The Badlands. This is probably the best five hours of the game. + It’s a CLASSIC. If you’re in to the Red Faction series, it’s certainly worth picking up on sale to play casually. The story isn’t unbelievable, but the game is, at its core, fun—which is what really matters. [〰] THE..."TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT" ~ The STORY. Not great. It gives you a good enough reason to progress through the game, but doesn’t…really…matter… Take it or leave it! ~ The PHYSICS ENGINE. In comparison to other physics engines of the time (and those that have been built since), RF:G’s is SUPER dated. It can really slow things down as you’re traversing (and destroying) the world, which is unfortunate since it’s the basis of the game. ~ BACKTRACKING. Oh lord, the backtracking! Hit by a falling beam? Killed by the errant shots of the EDF baddies? Enjoy running all the way from one of the seven or so spawn locations to wherever you need to be. Sadly, much of your time playing the game involves traveling the roads you’ve traveled a hundred times before. ~ COMPLETION is TEDIOUS. If you’re a completionist, you’ll probably want to pass on this game. There is about 15-20 hours of story in the base game, 5 hours of story in the DLC mission, and then over 30 hours of grinding out dated missions that you’d better be tracking on the side if you want to know what you’ve done or missed along the way. [➖] THE NOT-SO-GREAT - Missions start to feel REPETITIVE. There are only about *seven* different types of missions you’ll complete in the game, with the main storyline missions being the most interesting and unique. Completion of them ultimately seems to dictate your ability to level, so it can be a real pain point that hinders the enjoyment of the game as a whole. - The DIFFICULTY does not scale well. You’ll probably end up bumping down the difficulty for two reasons: A) it’s way too easy to get killed by random flying chunks, forcing you to run back to the mission location, and B) because there is literally no reason to NOT play the game on easy. Don’t feel bad; the game is WAY better when it feels like you earned a death instead of getting killed by RNG. - COMBAT. The combat mechanics are SUPER dated! It’s basically point-and-click, and the more difficult enemies can pretty easily chip you down if you aren’t playing defensively at all times. - DRIVING. Similar to the combat mechanics, driving is super wonky on a mouse and keyboard. Controller users will probably have less of an issue; though even then, the cars can feel like you’re balancing on one wheel at times. - The TIME TRIALS. One mission involves driving a car from one point to another. On top of the wonky driving mechanics, many of them require you to destroy huge parts of the world to beat the Pro time. Get used to hearing Troy Baker say, “Hey Sam: this receiver just went off.” (a lot) - CRASHES. If you run the game for anywhere between two and four hours, you will encounter a fatal game crash. Save often! - MULTIPLAYER ACHIEVEMENTS. Any game that implements multiplayer achievements without an ability to unlock them after the community has dispersed sadly earns this demerit. After 50 hours, there will be about 18 achievements that you cannot unlock without a friend (and maybe even two) who doesn’t mind helping you grind out the multiplayer tasks. TIP: Join the Discord server to find others hunting for multiplayer achievements: discord.gg/redfaction (SPECIAL THANKS TO: NGCHunter2, Emily Willow, OneExtremeEnigma, Aindriu1802, Kacyqui, Solaire of Astora, The Immortal Turtle, Butt Values) [🤔] THE FINAL WORD… Red Faction: Guerrilla had its time. It was a decent time, but now there are far better ways for you to spend your time. With about 20 hours of gameplay followed by 40 hours of grind, the game is ultimately only worth it if you’re looking for a no-limits playground where you can level a world with the hammer of Thor. Likewise, many of the mechanics will feel frustrating and clunky at this point, which is why it is probably best to leave this game in the past. Here are some alternatives for you to consider: If you want to play a game about killing stuff on Mars in the most enjoyable ways, go play Doom. If you want a game where you can destroy everything in satisfying ways, pick up one of the Just Cause games. If you want a great game with Troy Baker and Kari Wahlgren, go try out Guild Wars 2 or Mortal Kombat 11 or something. ⭐ OVERALL: 7/10Show moreShow less
