I'm not really sure if I recommend this game or not because I had my Fun with it but I will talk mostly about the negative aspects of the game so I put this review here. The game is fun and all the destruction is great, but it has multiple flow-breakers which makes it often just annoying. -The game is extremely tedious at many points, if you have fun, you have really fun but the way to get there was like really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tiring. You have to do many side missions to advance in the game to get control and salvage. Control is literally your game progression and salvage is money, which you obviously need both. The Problem is that you have 5 sectors with very similar missions and tasks, where a few of them are very boring (driving a car across half the map with a timer), which you also can't skip because you need the money. Which leads us to our next problem: -Salvage, or better money , if you play the game normally you are always low on cash so you have to farm to enjoy the game to its fullest or even to try out a few of the different weapons without reloading after testing it out. Because you need salvage for Upgrades and for the Story to continue and both are pretty expensive. -ammo shortage : Longer Fights can get really annoying because you always need to have a look on your reserve-ammo. For the normal assault rifles you have only two mags + the one in the gun and their damage is pretty low which makes them almost useless in longer fights. Later in the game you can kinda solve it but bigger fights are still annoying because somewhere in the middle you have to search for an ammo-crate. -much stuff in the endgame: there are a few things you get right before the ending which I think should be available much earlier. (You get a jetpack which you aren't able to use as much because the main part of the game is already over, btw it's awesome) In the end I would describe the game like this: skiing without a ski-lift. The descent is great, but its a pain in the ass to walk back up the mountain through the snow with your heavy gear.Show moreShow less

Grand Theft Auto: Mars is one of those games you hear a lot of good things about, then when you finally play it for yourself it leaves an odd taste in your mouth. It has some good points and bad, and the result feels rather mediocre to me. The thing that this game does best is the destruction. After all, that's what Red Faction is known for so it better be good. It's a much more dynamic system than a game like Battlefield 3, allowing you to take out building supports and even collapse upper floors of multistory buildings to collapse the lower floors. It's also a hell of a lot more fun than the chaos system in Just Cause 2 since you do more than shoot fuel tanks and throw grenades at satellite dishes. Nearly everything is destructible and it's great fun running around destroying things. Strangely though, hitting just about anything with a sledgehammer, even foot-thick metal barricades, causes them to splinter into pieces. There are various explosives you can use as well, but their limited ammunition, even with upgrades, makes them of limited use. Sometimes the best choice is to hijack a heavy APC, since those drive through buildings like there's nothing there. Driving works pretty well as well, though cars can be difficult to control in the low Mars gravity. The vehicles themselves are rather unique, taking cues from various rover designs used by Nasa with some Volition style added. You can find some really cool ones, though they pretty much all function the same. Many vehicles have mounted weapons which auto-aim at enemies to help your destruction sprees. As for bad things, I found the alert system to be astonishingly annoying throughout the game. The main way to advance through the game is to destroy EDF structures and do other missions that piss the EDF off. When your alert level has raised up, they will constantly spawn near you with 10+ enemies shooting at you at all times, and they kill you very fast, even on normal difficulty. This results on you being teleported a long distance to a safehouse and having to drive back to resume your task. Dying during a mission seems to be completely random whether there's a checkpoint to retry from or whether you will have to restart the entire mission. You will be doing that a lot. With this in mind, I found many of the side missions were designed to be quite annoying or very tedious. There are vehicle recovery missions where you have to return a vehicle to a safe house. The game always chooses one 2 sectors away so it takes you 4 or 5 minutes to drive there. Other missions will put you at a ridiculous disadvantage such as requiring you to destroy 30 enemy vehicles on foot without dying. I found these side missions so annoying that I just skipped as many as possible. The story is decent, though not terribly well presented. It is advanced through short story mission briefings and a couple cutscenes with reasonable voice acting. It's broken up into very rigid sections, where you progress through each sector of the map in sequence. I never really got a feel for the characters which is unfortunate because they could have been done a lot better. Overall, while running around destroying things is fun, I feel like the rest of the game falls a bit flat. It's fun, but the frustrating parts really get in the way.Show moreShow less
WARNING !!!!! This game uses GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE (GFWL) which will be dismantled on July 1st, 2014 Many games have switched over to only use STEAM... HOWEVER: - RED FACTION: GUERRILLA has made no effort to do so as of yet. I 100% RECOMEND THIS GAME... Its AWESOME... BUT... there are 2 things you should know. 1. Your saved games are on GFWL ... when that drops... you WILL loose ALL saved games. 2. You will NOT be able to save your game after July 1st if the developers do nothing.Show moreShow less
WOW... no wonder this game is on sale for two dollars.... You are forced you to install Microsoft Live software if you want to save a single game... I remember when this was called MSN crap.... I deleted that back in the early 2000s..... This is a decent game for a 2009 release, its just to bad they force you to install M$ bloatware.... Even Undead Labs owned by M$ doesn't force you to install outdated lameware like Microsoft Life.Show moreShow less
One of the most underrated games of the last decade. 4 years later it still has the best destruction physics in a game. 9/10 PS: It shows only 2 hours because I played it on console when it first came out.. Don't underestimate this game.Show moreShow less

Steamworks is here, the great tyrant GFWL is dead and gone! A round of applause is in order for Nordic Games for reviving this wonderful game. Now, on with the review. Red Faction: Guerrilla is an insanely fun game, let's get that out of the way right now. The open world nature combined with the destructable nature of almost every structure in the game makes for one of the most enjoyable, destructive romps you'll ever have in a game. While you play through the story mode you'll have a wealth of options for how to deal with objectives, many of which involve the destruction of key buildings. Perhaps you'd like to get up close and personal with your hammer, maybe you'd rather hop in a truck and send it flying through the side of a building or you might just hail it with rockets from afar, all of which are perfectly viable options. Even if you don't wish to go through the campaign it's likely you'll find enjoyment in one of the two other gametypes: Wrecking Crew - A Solo or Local co-op gamemode with leaderboard integration where you seek to do as much damage to the buildings in a give map with different caveats depending on the mode which are: Total Chaos - Doing as much damge as possible in one minute with unlimited ammo. Behemoth - Using one of three Walker (mech) types to do as much damage as possible in a limited time. Challange - Completing level-specific challanges. Escalation - You have a limited amount of time and ammo, each round both increase. Barrel Dash - Destroying as many explosive barrels as you can within the time limit. Rampage - Deal as much damage as possible with a three minute timelimit, each shot or swing of your weapon takes a set amount of time away. Internet Game - Go head-to-head with other players in a variet of gamemodes, such as: Anarchy / Team Anarchy - Your basic Deathmatch mode. Bagman / Team Bagman - Hold the bag and gain points. Capture the flag - Exactly what it says on the tin. Siege - Defend / Attack gamemode where the key is to destroy specific structures. Damage Control - Fight to capture the three points. Demolition - Protect the Destroyer, the only person who can damage buildings as they go around and destroy as much as they can. TL:DR - The Pros New Direct X11 support, improved stability, better experience over all thanks to Nordic. New steamwork intergration, including Matchmaking and achievements. Strong openworld campaign with plenty to keep you busy. A host of other activities beyond the campaign that provide many hours of fun. You can load up a truck with remote mines, send it flying into the side of a building and then detonate it. Awesome. The Cons Known technical issues, check the forums and such to see if it'll have any issues with your setup. Many of these are being fixed by Nordic currently, it would seem. Still, it's good to make sure. While the campaign is fun and story is perfectly acceptable, anyone looking for a great narrative might find it lacking.Show moreShow less
RF: Guerrilla is an open world action game set in Mars, which is controlled by the Earth Defense Force. The main character joins the Red Faction resistance after the introduction/tutorial level and the goal of the game is to free Mars from the tyranny of EDF. Gameplay is pretty standard 3rd-person shooter, but the twist is the destructible environment. The ground isn't destructible but all buildings etc. can be destroyed. There are also vehicles to drive around, but most of them are quite slow and not that fun to drive around in. The story progresses through missions, which aren't very long or even that innovative. There are also several side missions available, but they repeat the same pattern and get tedious very quickly. The story isn't very good either. Difficulty-wise the game is kinda hard, because you die quite quickly even on normal and it takes some time for the health to regen. However, you could just go to a vehicle for a few seconds, which regens your health quite quickly. You also run out of ammo for the weapons very quickly and then you have to pick up one of the enemies' weapons or resort to the melee weapon. Alternatively you could go to an ammo crate, but those are sparsely scattered around the world and they don't even have that much ammo in them. There is a small upgrade system in the game, which can be used to buy a few new weapons and then some upgrades to them. The "currency" in the game is salvage, which can be obtained by destroying EDF buildings, completing missions or by mining ore deposits. I would imagine that people, who like to roam around the world and just do random stuff, would enjoy the game more, but I don't really enjoy doing that so I didn't have that much fun playing the game. The game is best played in short bursts, because there isn't much to do in the game unless you really like destroying virtual buildings. I finished the game in about 13 hours and I did about 45 of the 104 side missions the game has. The main story doesn't take that long to beat, but you must do some side missions for each area before the final story mission for the area unlocks. It's just an average open world action game that isn't much fun to play. It also has GFWL, which can cause problems for some people. No longer has GFWL.Show moreShow less
