Not much of a review more-so a few suggestions; - cruise control toggle button, I'd like to have this running in the background like a screensaver - maybe some racetracks with offline and online multiplayer - mod support (cars, songs, tracks, etc) - customisation options for time of day, weather and road conditions - a mobile version Even if such things are not implemented into the final game it is still an awesome game good for kicking back and relaxing. Considering its price to game-play ratio it is a steal imo. 5 stars dude. Edit: just a couple more things maybe worth adding; - a small open world area, like a small city to cruise around - a campaign mode (even if its only a small one) - allowing to add our own music files Statement still stands tho - awesome game.Show moreShow less
This game is currently in the Humble Choice for January 2022. If you are interested in the game and it's before February 1st, 2022, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle. This game… this game. Retrowave is simple, like as simple as can be. Drive for as long as you can, and dodge traffic. Get near misses, and get close to oncoming traffic and just keep driving. And that’s it. After five minutes I was looking for ANY level of complexity. There are 20 cars and 20 tracks that all play the same and there are four difficulties but at the end of the day, I had seen almost everything the game has to offer in 20 minutes and then I played another forty because I’ll put in the time. But after playing the game, something was off. So I kept digging. I found this https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/templates/packs/highway-racer-50866 Unity Asset pack, which has the exact same UI in multiple locations but particularly in the gameplay. Now there’s some work here, likely using something like this, https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/textures-materials/sky/retrowave-skies-dynamic-synthwave-skybox-asset-pack-197258 which could be the skybox and road that’s being driven on, maybe a few small tweaks, but the gameplay, UI, and modes are the same. There are a few assets added to that pack, but in general, this is just that Unity Asset Pack. It also retails for 2 dollars, is usually on sale for 1 dollar, and has DLC that is just a huge amount of credits so you can unlock everything instead of playing the game. I can’t recommend this, there’s nothing wrong with checking this game out if you got everything else, but this is a 2 dollar game at best, AND it’s just an asset flip. The developer Rewindapp has released 67 games on Steam in four years, almost all of them appear to be asset flips, and they all run for two dollars. I’m going to move on but I’ll talk more about this in the conclusion. Also once I found the asset, I was able to quickly find three games using the same asset, and I’m sure there are hundreds more. If you enjoyed this review or want to know what I think of other games in the bundle, check out the full review on or subscribe to my Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/j3gs3-4WiQI Note: If you are still somehow interested in this game after all that, the developer RAISED the price to 3 dollars on January 6th, for the first time ever. Pure greed in every way.Show moreShow less

Music aside this game is boring as hell. Even 1980s Outrun had corners to take at least. This game is like driving through a neon Idaho, nothing but straight boring roads. Put on a screensaver and go listen to Gunship, Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, Com Truise, etc. Nostalgia be a helluva drug to give this "game" Overwhelmingly Positive. I have honestly played better Flash driving games than this. Edit: the only reason I have more than 30 minutes in this game is because it takes forever for the cards to drop.Show moreShow less

Retrowave is a mystery to me. How is one of the most bland, least fun, games I've played on Steam in my 11 years as a customer--also somehow one of the highest rated games if you sort by User Reviews? Why do a lot of the positive reviews read so similar? I'm definitely refunding this one. There are lots of free games that are more fun than this. I won't go into how poorly this game runs on a good gaming computer. Why use 100% of your customers GPU to draw so little and not offer usual features such as vsync to reduce wasted frames? Look at the screenshots, that's basically the entire game. Driving down a line with boring cars over and over. Change the background, sure, but it's still dull. Here's a screenshot that almost captures the essence of the entire game in one image: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2542408305Show moreShow less

Warning: Asset Flip! Retrowave is a Unity Asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", RewindApp, took the Highway Racer Unity Store tutorial/demo/game asset pack from the real developers, BoneCracker Games, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work. "Highway Racer" has also been shamelessly dumped on Steam by other asset flippers apart from RewindApp: "Extreme Racing On Highway", asset flipped by A Nostru It's the same game! RewindApp then took a bunch of assets for various cars, like the Delorean, which is really the "3D Classic Car #1" by "UnlockGameAssets" who did the real work here. RewindApp has shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself: "Cube Defense" = 3D Wave Shooter developed by Daniel Buckley "Yet Another Survival Game" = Apocalypse Survival Complete Project developed by Kuzkay "Elite Archery" = Archer Shooter Casual Low Poly Game Starter Kit developed by Zhang Rongyi "Archery Blast" = Archery Blast developed by Day Dreamz Studio "Brick Breaker Ultimate" = BallX - Infinite Brick Breaker - Complete Game Template developed by App Advisory "Battle Simulator" = Battle Simulator 118027 developed by Codeer Studio "BitCoin" = Bitcoin Clicker / Miner Simulator developed by Dudle Studio "Bitcoin Farm" = Bitcoin Clicker / Miner Simulator developed by Dudle Studio "Escape Game" = Ciitt Escape Game Kit developed by ciitt "Coin Pusher" = Coin Pusher Pro developed by Alan O'Toole "Real Drift" = Extreme Drift developed by Mehdi Rabiee "Knife Flipping" = Flicky Blade - Unity Game Template developed by SgLib Games "Obscurity" = Freeze: X Mission developed by Andrew Oleynik "Hammer 2" = Full Game Kit - Hammer 2 developed by XForm Games "Rampage Miami" = Full Game Kit - Hammer 2 developed by XForm Games "Operation Desert Road" = Full Game Kit Operation Desert Road developed by XForm Games "Crazy Archery" = Gibbet - Archery Complete Game Template developed by ADDPGAMES "Gravity Ball" = Gravity Ball 2D Dynamic Lights and Shadows developed by App Advisory "Lost" = Hack and Slash 2DPlatformer Lost developed by Studio HardCore "Hunter" = J Shooting Kit developed by Jun "My Car" = Keeree Car Constructor developed by Keeree "Kings" = Kings Card Swiping Decision Game Asset developed by KM-Games "Minesweep" = Minesweeper 3D Template developed by Rainbirth "Vegas Slot" = MK - Modern Suits Slot Asset developed by Master Key "Skully Pinball" = Pinball Creator developed by Tropical Studio "Junglex" = Pix Jungle Adventure developed by Fox Games "Golf 2D" = Quick Golf developed by Shorka Games "Race" = Racing Game Template developed by TurnTheGameOn "Clash of Castle" = RTS Battle Kit developed by Codeer Studio "Seven Nations" = RTS Toolkit developed by chanfort "My Stunt Life" = SBP Vehicle Physics 2.0 developed by SpyBlood Games "Christmas Race" = Sliding Santa developed by SgLib Games "Pyrax" = Smash Way Hit Pyramids developed by Andrew Oleynik "Solar System" = Solar System pack developed by Adam Beilecki "Space Rocket" = Space Frontier Complete Game Kit developed by Finalboss Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap out different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off. Asset flips are an insult to both PC gamers and to professional game developers who create genuine, high quality PC games. Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from RewindApp.Show moreShow less
This game holds a very special place in my heart aside from being a good game. When my daughter was born last year there wasn't much that could stop her from crying if she got going. My wife would come in and just hand her over to me looking frazzled, and I'd be doing whatever. I'd put on this game because I could play it with one hand, and I'd always play the vaporwave level because it was so bright and happy. Me and my little girl would watch the cars go by and listen to the music and she'd always quiet down like magic. It's 8 months later and she's almost walking and wiggly as anything, but she sits on my lap and will watch me play this game, and we just chill together. Best feeling. Aside from that, excellent game. Progression is exactly what you want; cool colors, cool new cars, upgrades to your new cars. No pressure, just cool shiz you can buy. Music is excellent. Obviously. One of the main draws of the game. Graphics are...kind of useless to critique because this game would be good no matter what, the mechanics, music and artistic direction are so solid that graphically everything could look like seven pixels and it would be fine. But the graphics are really good anyway, way better than they needed to be, and I appreciate that. [see comments for a sad developer fact]Show moreShow less
The game is kinda boring. I've played about 40 minutes and I have all cars at max tuning level. This is crazy how easy this is!! ;D The colorful backgrounds look great and and the atmosphere is nostalgic ^^Show moreShow less
