Without negative reviews, the Developers will not see the problem and the game can't improve. As of now, SCP: 5K is boring and stale. Many players are initially drawn in by its refreshing, modern take on the SCP series. The graphics, animations, weapons, and customization are top-notch and clearly the most polished aspects of the game. However, the game currently falls short in delivering core SCP content. The immersive role based team objectives, diverse entities, and varied levels that made previous SCP games great are noticeably absent. Unfortunately, the game doesn't yet deliver on these fronts. Additionally, the lack of essential features like save points and clear objectives makes it difficult to revisit the limited content available. While I trust that the developers are listening and aware of these issues, I'm concerned about how much the player base will suffer in the meantime. Some minor problems should have been addressed in small updates or patches by now. I genuinely appreciate the potential of SCP: 5K and believe it could surpass all previous SCP games if executed properly. However, as it stands, it’s far from complete and requires substantial work.Show moreShow less

The revamp of the Area 12 scenario is so bad I wish I could refund the game from when I purchased it over a year ago. It was originally streamlined and significantly easier to navigate. Now they've replaced the fun of the game with tedious, and numerous, fetch missions and nonsensical puzzles. Instead of going through the mission in a linear fashion, you must now power a generator with randomly-placed gasoline cans. These cans are a dark yellow color and easily blend in with the environment. There are many places they can spawn, but they're so easy to miss it's comical. After you power the generator with gas, you must AGAIN supply power to the generator from a separate control room. That makes literally no sense at all. Accessing this control room requires you to backtrack through areas you previously finished. In fact, all of the puzzles in the first chapter require a lot of backtracking. If you're playing with friends, you do NOT share puzzle pieces. If one person picks up a gas can, valve, key card, or whatever, only THEY have that item and only THEY can use that item. I just spent two hours backtracking through a maze-like level with terrible, God-awful level design only to have my game crash and lose all that progress. I can understand technical issues, but this level design is a massive step down from what it used to be.Show moreShow less

Honestly this is way too rough of a game even for an early access release. This managed to be disappointing with no expectations. The AI is the worst I've seen ever, they're simple-based aimbots with A-B pathing that lineup and stand still. The zombies all line-up in a line so headshots are extremely easy. All ranged enemies aimbot with no ballistic bullet calculations right away. Very N64/PS1-era AI. The UI looks like a 5$ game. See-through options separated by white bars. Hard to read at times like when you modify your gun. A buttload of the environments are UE4 free assets being spammed in empty rooms (lights, desks, phones, monitors, the random vehicules, etc.) I recognize the damn assets from the marketplace. Very low level of effort put in everything. Ultra disappointing. The Optimization: I get 90 fps with my 3080+5600Ryzen+32GBRam 3200Mhz rig WITH DLSS on, so I can't imagine other people's performance lol. The game is so raw that in the very first 3 seconds of gameplay I fell through the map and died. Then it happened again when I glitched through a door. But the most "Ouf" part: It says they're in BETA phase, not ALPHA. Says it in the top right corner. This means this is close to the real vision of the game. This is EXTREMELY problematic as it's rough as hell. This feels like a pre-Alpha game. Releasing this game, even in early access, with NO SCP WHATSOEVER is an unacceptable lack of content. Yes, there are no SCP in an SCP game. Honestly not worth the 20$ even when early access, this feels like a f2p game that people would ignore. I know I'm going to get a hate train from the fanboys of the series, but if I pay 20$ for a game I'm going to judge it as a 20$ game. And I wouldn't even play this for free tbh. This kind of sucks as I'm a huge fan of the SCP lore and SCP: Containment Breach. I'm not gonna wait years for this to "possibly finally realize its full potential" when SCP: Containment Breach Multiplayer is free and much more entertaining than this game.Show moreShow less
Met a guy in one of my games named Red_Scorpion and it some how turned into us larping/memeing in the final act and it was an absolute blast. We were holding off the horde as the rest of the team made it to the platform and we had to run back to it. I was able to make it but...but..he didn't. I screamed out for him as he faded to black and was surrounded by the final horde. Red Scorpion, if you see this, just know my kids will forever remember the sacrifices you made for not only me but the betterment of the world.Show moreShow less
Its a puzzle game more than a horror tactical shooter. EDIT 5/30/24: Still no checkpoints for some reason?Show moreShow less
As a mostly single player, it would be helpful if guys like me could have the option to utilize friendly bots when fighting on Area 12.Show moreShow less
Don't Buy-Yet Edit in 2025: I really believe all the reviews praising this without reservations is hurting the direction of this project and doing a disservice to the developers. How can they know what to focus on if they're already at a "Very Positive"? It doesn't deserve Very Positive right now. The team is clearly talented in the bones of the game, but the design is hurting what could be a very fun experience. I find it extremely difficult to believe everyone defending its Alpha state (which it has been in for many years now) aren't seeing the same issues people like me are seeing. There's some promising momentum by the devs. The main area is split into chapters now and a little bit of tedium is finally gone. But it's still way too tedious for what it is. Wandering around huge areas to search for codes when there are a total of like 20 enemies in the area is just inexcusable. Spending 25 minutes looking for a code in exchange for a gunfight lasting 30 seconds is ridiculous. It's trying to be a raid game but ends up being the irritating part of original Doom, backtracking and looking for "clues". It's either a huge map that's either mostly empty and frustrating to navigate transitioning to so linear that there just isn't much to do. So many reused assets means that finding any of the required codes or whatever means searching identical rooms 5-10 times. Really easy to miss things you need to move forward. Hell, just have some guys spawn in and have one of them drop a tablet with codes, either cut out empty space or add collectibles for character/gun customization. Asking for $20 is too much. The developers need to focus less on expanding existing maps that aren't fun and adding more interesting things to make the experience actually intense. Those moments of getting jumped or running into enemies you aren't prepared for is a blast. They also removed the Hunt mode from what I can tell, which was a portion that actually avoided a lot of the boring pitfalls the main map has. No clue why. A little polish on that and the game would've had a solid portion that didn't rely on searching for tiny objectives in a huge and empty map. All they had to do was spice it up a bit and it would've held attention and kept a player base. I've been reading SCP stuff since my last review a year or so ago and there's so much that 5k could offer with the assets and gameplay it already has, I've no idea why it's so constrained. Area 12 needs some serious love, but expanding outward (as a commenter recommended, the siege of Ganzir) would make it well worth buying. Having a couple bad levels would be fine if there were other choices. Area 12 can't be the only map, it's a linear puzzle-crawl in every iteration. This is clearly leaning toward a gun game, that's absolutely fine. Why aren't there things coming out of the walls? Why aren't there enemies you can only see in IR? Literally everything is on a set trigger so the veteran players already know exactly what is about to happen and when. That's not good, that's just mowing down a group of like 4 guys that have spawned in cramped room you can just wail on. Instead of wandering an empty theater set-piece, make some of the static-y dead guys follow us around to try to get us killed. Can't shoot at them too long or else the movie monster is going to kill you. I get having more dynamic interactions with the various SCP monsters might be difficult but it would add so much. They have already added 610 for an unfinished map. Do more with that. Where are the mantis guard guys from the 5000 article? The devs do strike me as talented and could make a great game, but I think they need to actually play their own game right now and just observe players without interfering. It's a design problem that shouldn't be as obvious as it is. They can do it, they just need to be focused on the right things. It's still a lot of good ideas that are buried under so much slog it's impossible to actually see what is done right for 95% of the gameplay being offered. Original review with fixed bits taken out: Got it on sale and am happy to leave this in my library in hopes that the devs turn this into the game it wants to be. If it doesn't get abandoned and the team keeps plugging away, it'll be a lot of fun. I get that this is a game meant to appeal to fans of a franchise after reading other reviews, but I think a lot of the hyper-positive feedback is being influenced by love of the franchise rather than the merits of the game itself. May be best to step back and see its merits as its own thing. If the devs listen to player feedback and it gets a few more updates, it's an easy recommend. Has a ton of potential. Just don't buy it right now. The fun exists just under the surface, the devs can totally bring it up to light with more time. Thoughts and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥: -Similarly, the gunfights are actually pretty fun despite the soldier AI being pretty bad. Just the fact that positioning with team mates is a necessity and bullets actually go through surfaces is pretty cool. -The monsters are neat. Having to keep eyes on the stone guy was really cool and added a new dynamic to the game. Problem is that he never really shows back up or puts the team in a position of having to choose between keeping eyes and engaging enemies. Also, the spider crabs are pointless right now and look worse than the rest of the game. -Very barebones campaign. "Area 12" has some cool things going for it, but the level design is not very good right now. Finding the green key to advance and backtracking was annoying in Doom, it's worse when you're with a team in a huge map. Only one map. -Had fun in "Hunt" mode, but it was more like a demo than a map. The features teased but not included made it seem very OG "Rainbow Six", which is great, but most of those features aren't even in the game right now. It also ends up crashing on restart, which is very frustrating. Only one map. -PvP was alright. As mentioned above, the gunplay is pretty fun. Only one map. -Something is going on with hit registering sometimes. Occasionally, solid hits just didn't do anything. I really like that "tactical" or "tactical-lite" feeling of very little HUD and no hit acknowledgement on crosshairs, but the zombie things feel like they're made out of paper right now. They have no weight or attack animations. They just clip into your teammate and he ragdolls. -The movie theater is just a slog. It's not fun at all. The entire experience is representative of a core problem. The truly weird stuff is "instanced" away from the gunfights. The gimmick of not looking at or being near screens+the glitch effect was really cool, but the implementation needs a lot of work. Like the stone monster, it feels like it should be used in addition to going through the rest of the level until you can finally shut it down. Adding to the amount of thought needed to get through some fights rather than just having 4 tacticool dudes jumping around looking for codes. -It's painful to get through a lot of the campaign map. Finding tiny codes and keys then backtracking isn't engaging, especially after the area has already been cleared. If there were a few more monsters, some game-breaking bugs were squashed, level design gets fixed, a few more maps, weapon loadout was fixed, and AI improvement, this would definitely be worth the asking price as an alpha. I'd pay 30 bucks for this if it was what it should be. Firefights while dealing with any number of crazy conditions from the critters in the screen or the killer statue? That's awesome. Throw more of that in. It's what the game wants to be.Show moreShow less
