Great game but the older I get, the less I can play games like this. To be honest, it's just too difficult for me.Show moreShow less
Not a game for me, I find it too repetitive and not entertaining. I do not like the progression system. I think you either hate or love this game. Try it and see for yourself!Show moreShow less

This game is fun, almost every boss feels like it's my fault that I'm losing. Sometimes it's frustrating, but at least I know that I'm hitting combos that are whittling down the boss relatively quick. However, the game went from feeling like I'm a bad ass martial artist, to feeling like I'm tickling enemies with a feather. The last boss made me feel this especially, where it's just a fight of attrition. I thought maybe there was a mechanic I was missing, but when I looked up the fight, it was just doing the same thing over and over again for a long period of time. This game gets a negative review because of the artificial difficulty mechanic of "how long can you do the same thing?" I got so tired of dodging all my enemies attacks, and spending an entire minute hitting them with combos, just to be hit over the head with an average enemies attack to lose 50% of my hp. I just wish I didn't have to schedule a 6 A.M appointment with the final boss, to see if I can finish his first phase before it's time to head out to lunch from how little damage I'm doing. I'd rather just play 'Furi' if I wanted satisfying boss fights that have quick time reactions.Show moreShow less

Sifu is, to me, a perfect example of a great game ruined by the obsession with difficulty that so many modern developers (and gamers) have fallen into. It's not that it's "too hard" in an objective sense, because anyone who really puts their head down and grinds the systems will eventually be able to reach the end. I put in about 15 hours on the Epic store when it first came out and was able to beat the final level at 22 years old. But even if you *can* eventually "git gud," the whole thing is just layered with so many pointlessly punishing design decisions that suck the fun out of what would otherwise be a great martial arts game. Everything about Sifu - the lazy roguelite elements, the incredibly narrow windows for blocks and parries, the huge number of enemies with unclear or easily misinterpreted attack telegraphs - feels like it was designed solely to add pain to every single mistake you make and require you to play absolutely flawlessly. It's just not possible to approach even the simplest encounters casually or with anything less than full attention. And some people might enjoy that, I guess, but for me it was just exhausting. I play games to have fun, and it feels like Sifu is designed with this very entitled attitude that assumes everyone is striving to be the most dedicated try-hard on the planet. Games should *earn* that level of engagement, rather than expecting it from the outset - but Sifu is obviously designed entirely around someone who has decided from the first minute that they're going to spend hours banging their head against the wall, rather than the (much larger) group of people who just want to be able to have a fun time with an inventive and dynamic combat system. If you *are* someone who loves getting constantly beaten to a pulp by a wildly unfriendly and actively hostile game, you'll probably love this, and I know criticizing that will just get me a bunch of obnoxious comments from exactly that type of person. But I'm just tired of games that are designed to make people think to themselves, "Wow, this is really hard!" instead of actually being fun on a moment-to-moment level. I don't think anyone could actually defend the design decisions being made here just in terms of first-level enjoyment. I thought after a year or so of development, some of the roughest edges would have been sanded down. But sadly, it's the same tedious slog it was last year, so I refunded.Show moreShow less
Best game you suck at is a great way to describe sifu for me. Had to refund because I am old and slow, but all you young people may enjoy it. The art is amazing.Show moreShow less
Giving this a no simply because there's no "It might be great if you're into it." I desperately wanted to like this game more than I did. In theory its a ton of fun and super stylish. Problem is learning the game well relies not only on memorizing and managing to pull off a number of combo's and button presses in the blink of an eye, it requires you to also memorize attack patterns and combos and be able to read them instantly. For example, the dodge/block/countering mechanic doesn't just require you to time it correctly (with a very small window), but most/many attacks also require you to dodge/counter in the correct direction (high vs Low). So when an enemy goes for an attack, you need to already know if its going to be a high attack or low attack and respond accordingly. Good in theory, but again, the timing on it is insanely narrow. Other games with counter/dodge mechanics tend to give you 2x or 3x as much time to react, and require less mechanical input to carry out. Its not just "Press LB to dodge", its "Hold LB and flick the control stick in the appropriate direction, oops your timing was good, but guessed the wrong direction" Additionally, as I mentioned, you need to memorize attack patterns too, because while early enemies will only attack once or will stagger if you block them, others will attack in 2-3 hit combos. Issue is, after a successful dodge or block, you have a brief window to counter attack. This is a problem because the emphasis is on BRIEF. If you wait a fraction of a second to see if they have a followup attack, you'll miss your window, but if you try to counter and they're only hit 2 a 3 attack combo, you're going to get hit instead. Given high complexity of the game, I could see it being fun if you literally have dozens of hours available to get really good at it. I imagine it would feel incredibly satisfying to be able to dance and weave around enemies, being a full on Bruce Lee. However, if you're like me and don't have that much time to invest in what is a relatively shallow game, I cant recommend it. Any game that requires you to spend that much time just to start having fun, isn't getting a recommendation from anyone with limited time to game. tl;dr If you have the surplus time and patience to learn the fighting system and have the hair trigger reflexes and pattern recognition skills the game requires, its probably a lot of fun. For the rest, however, the barrier for entry is too high and will likely just cause frustration.Show moreShow less
