cringe culture is dead, now we can all admit that shadow the hedgehog is actually the coolest fictional character ever createdShow moreShow less
I'll make this as simple as possible: This should have been a separate game and IMO it would have been an excellent pick for 20/30 EUR respectively. But it feels like SEGA was so greedy that they pretty much put a delicious sandwich (Shadow generations) into the same box as a sandwich which is on the verge of spoiling (Sonic Generations), just so they could TRY to justify such a price tag. The graphics look great (only in Shadow's part), high frame-rate is supported (sadly, again, only in Shadow's part) and it's actually running well even on the Steam Deck (once again, primarily on Shadow's part...). Now, for more details on the negatives: - no ultrawide support - original Sonic Generations feels like an afterthought You launch the game and it seems like both the original Sonic Generations + Shadow generations have been blended in. But if you pick Sonic Generations, it becomes clear that it's just acting like a glorified launcher for the original game - you get a black screen, terminal pop-up and it switches to the Sonic Generations game... the frame rate gets locked to 60FPS, random stuttery moments start to happen and the graphics seem just slightly worse (lighting, textures, etc.), enough to make something feel "off". I was at least hoping we'd finally get an option for enabling unlimited frame-rate, but it seems like that is only reserved for the Shadow Generations part. As much as I'm happy with the way Shadow Generations looks, I'm equally disappointed in the Sonic Generations bit because it's almost the exact same thing as the 2010 release, flaws included (60fps, stutters, the camera being too zoomed in on the character models). My take: Not recommended at full price. If it gets a decent discount, sure.Show moreShow less
While the Generations remaster is nothing special (weird decisions to change some cutscene animations and a rewritten script with a half baked dropdash and chao rescue missons added), the Shadow Generations is peak sonic gameplay. I hope this is the core gameplay going forward. For the love of god sonic team, don't pull a sonic lost world or sonic forces next game, keep the physics and level design quality like this, you got something good here.Show moreShow less
Very confused on how to feel about this game, because they had an opportunity to rework a lot of issues the original generations had, and to maybe just go the extra mile and put it on the new engine, really give it their full effort, but instead generations just feels like it has to be there to justify the asking price, because the shadow story isn't long enough. So you get basically the original version of generations, with a completely pointless drop dash added on top for both classic and modern sonic, as unfitting as it is for modern sonic, though spin dashing and boosting is the best thing to do anyway. I think classic sonic feels different but i've not looked into that enough. Textures are still disgustingly dated especially compared to the higher quality the shadow story offers, same with the models too, and the lighting is definitely showing its age in some areas too. But then you switch over to the shadow story and it's just a completely different game, its much snappier, boosting gives you far more control, it has none of that modern sonic jank from generations, because of course there has been over 10 years of control improvements since generations. And of course generations has incredibly minor but confusing changes made to some dialogue, which doesn't impact the game, but frustrates me because, why? There was no reason to it other than to avoid the tiny possibility of upsetting a very small amount of people. So to me the definitive version of generations is still the original PC release, and if you're buying this version, hopefully the shadow content is enough to justify the price. Personally I would refund if I could, because I am so so disappointed that they had a chance to make generations feel so much better, to add to its content and remove the dull padding that I'm sure barely anyone enjoys, but they didn't care and didn't want to try, it's just bloat so they can charge nearly full price, and this isn't a very long story for shadow so I don't see how anyone wins hereShow moreShow less
Sega out of complete nowhere eclipsed the entire franchise in terms of level design, storytelling, animation, atmosphere, and controls in shadow generations. Crazy stuff. And to be clear, I'm a huge sonic defender, I insist nearly every game in this series is at least good if not excellent. That said I'm still shook at how good this was. I've platinumed this on PS5 and PS4, will buy it physically on the switch, and digitally for a 3rd time on xbox. If you've ever been interested in Sonic at all now's the time to jump in.Show moreShow less

Ian Flynn is solidifying himself as THE story-writer for this series. A full-length Sonic game with more traditional Sonic stages (like this), the free-roam hub and controls of Shadow Generations or Frontiers, and an original story by Ian Flynn will be the best game in the franchise.Show moreShow less
Giving this a do not recommend simply because the way this game was handled wasn't done very gracefully and shows how lazy and greedy sega is. To Clarify, the Shadow Generations portion of this game or rather these games is great. I think they used frontier engine so the game looks nice and has some neat options like changing how fast you come to stop after letting go of the controlstick, etc. The overworld reminds me a lot of bowsers fury only that you don't have bowser interupting you. I just don't know if there is really enough content in this game to justify the full price (You can beat it 4 hours or less). Since the Sonic Generation portion of this bundle was done so poorly that it shouldn't even be considered in the pricing of this. First off i'm sure a lot of the people who actually care allready know about the cutscene and model changes they did to generations, a lot which raised eyebrows because "Why do we need Amy not being as flirty anymore and removing all the goofy bits like Knuckles calling classic sonic chubby?" It's because "muh modern Audience" and not wanting to "offend anyone" that's why. And i wouldnt have even cared that much about this part given that i usually dont care much for story in Sonic Games to begin with. But if you're gonna make changes like that atleast touch up the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics too. This version of generation actually looks worse then the OG release and also has way less graphics options to screw around with to try and make it look better. You completely f'd this one up Sonic Team, all you needed to do was make it look better. Instead you did rewrites and model changes and for what? For an endproduct that's just worse then the OG release and then you don't even have the decency and give people who own the OG Game a discount. TL;DR just another example of corporate greed. I would say either wait for a discount that brings this down to 30 or atmost 40 bucks. Or if you really wanna play it as soon as it releases, look where you can get it the cheapest through isthereanydeal. You're essentially just buying this for Shadow Generations, since the Sonic Generations part got royally screwed.Show moreShow less
I almost skipped out on this one (this franchise has hurt my heart one too many times and I wasn't doing well enough financially this year to just drop fifty dollars on a "remaster"), but oh my god I am so glad I didn't. The very concept behind this game confused me at first - Is it a new game? Is it just like 2 short levels duct-taped onto the original? I understood that they were essentially trying to imitate Nintendo with their release of Bowser's Fury, but for what purpose? And then it hit me. The genius behind this game's foundation. Every single 3D Sonic game to date has fodder, filler content meant to prevent players from beating the game in less than an hour. There was always some kind of gimmick, some kind of other slow-paced gameplay style that artificially extended the runtime. Sometimes it was tolerable, sometimes it was downright terrible, but every single 3D Sonic game had it. But what if... The fodder was one of the greatest Sonic games of them all? That's right. The "remaster" of Sonic Generations isn't really a remaster, in fact they barely touched a thing and for the most part, that's a good thing. There ARE changes if you look close enough, for example every cutscene has been rerecorded often with new dialogue (which is *a* decision, not necessarily a good one, but it doesn't really impact the game either way since the story in Sonic Generations was less than secondary already), but the main goal of bringing the game back wasn't to make it any better, as it already was nearly perfect. It was to make the main course of this package able to realise its' full potential. Shadow Generations is, for all intents and purposes, a new 3D Sonic game. From a story and themes perspective, it's a sequel to Sonic Generations. From a mechanical perspective, it's a sequel to Sonic Frontiers. It's the newest Sonic game. And, for the first time, for the first time since the original Sonic Generations, the game is FANTASTIC. That's right, for the first time in almost 15 years, and for the maybe third time ever - we got a 3D Sonic game that's just plain old good. No strings attached, no coping necessary to make it enjoyable. This is a game you can show to somebody who isn't a Sonic fan, and they will enjoy it, just like Sonic Generations. But that's not the whole story. Shadow Generations isn't just good, it isn't just on the same level of quality as Sonic Generations. It's *better*. I could go into detail about every single stage but honestly I don't want to spoil it for anybody who hasn't tried it yet. This game is as much of a love letter to the "dreamcast era/dark age" fans as the original was to the entire franchise. If you're a fan of 3D Sonic, hell, if you're a fan of 3D platformers in general, do not skip this one. I promise you it's worth the price for Shadow Generations alone. And if you haven't played either of these games, few better deals exist right now. I've beaten each of them twice already and I don't think I'll stop replaying the levels anytime soon.Show moreShow less
Very misleading title! With the name "Sonic X Shadow Generations", I was expecting some hot, steamy Sonadow action. But much to my disappointment, they don't even kiss! Gameplay is cool, but what the heck, Sega?! I need my gay hedgehog yaoi!Show moreShow less
