konami has come up with a terrible way to take money from the players' wallet again, I can't even enter the game, I'm trying to enter the pre-game with excitement after waiting so much and guess what happened, a BLACK SCREEN appears in front of me, I bought this game by pre-ordering it 2 months in advance and look at what I was given, YOU ARE AWESOME I can't even play the game.Show moreShow less
If Konami thinks they can just take 26+ year old iconic games from my childhood and zhuzh them up with newer graphics, updated UIs, and improved translations without making any changes to the gameplay, then they are 100% correct.Show moreShow less
This is a difficult one. I love the original Suikoden games, 2 was one of my favourites growing up, and the chance to revisit them as an adult is amazing. However, charging full AAA price for what is essentially a bit of a polish to the graphics, a fast forward option, and the worst auto save function I've ever come across (there's no point in autosave if it's doing it when you're right next to a save point!) does not feel right to me. I compare it to the remaster of Star Ocean: The Second Story (another childhood favourite), which has a much better graphical upgrade, but also makes improvements to the game, and adds QoL features, as a remaster done better. Ultimately, if you love Suikoden, there isn't anything I can say which will stop you from buying this, because the same great games that were released 25+ years ago are still here. I've bought it, and am going to continue playing through it for sure. But, if you still own the original, there isn't actually all that much difference here, and it really isn't worth paying full price for. And I struggle recommending this to JRPG players who aren't already a Suikoden fan, because the lack of basic QoL functions which have been added to countless games in the genre since, and to other remasters, are likely to be off-putting. And maybe I'm trying too hard to avoid those rose tinted lenses, and instead overestimate how much this might effect newcomers to the game. I just couldn't see myself playing this now if I didn't have the nostalgia towards the game.Show moreShow less

It has censorship in it, in both games so it's a no from me on principle. I will play on emulator when I revisit these games. Let me elaborate here by saying I played Suikoden and Suikoden II the day they released on PS way back when. I am a HUGE fan of these games, these ports are INFERIOR to the originals. The HD backgrounds look soulless, they look AI generated and lose a lot of the soul and art direction of the lovely original work. They also left the sprites alone so the whole thing looks disjointed. Add to this mindless censorship in both games (Blood from Neclord fights, crucifixes and crosses removed from both games, pentagrams and glyphs removed from both games, Richmond in II cigarette removed and more besides) and I see absolutely no reason why anyone, whether new to the series, or an OG fan like me would play any other way except on Duckstation. Do yourself a favor and play that way, these classics deserve it. Play how they were meant to be played. Of course you must own the original games I won't encourage piracy... but if you do then there are ISO's with the bugs from both OG games fixed.Show moreShow less
Better than Eiyuden Chronicles… On a serious note, this game isn't a remake, is a remaster, it doesn't have many of the contemporary jrpgs qol improvements for that reason. Despite that, it has a proper translation this time since the og game on ps1 had certain parts rushed and broken, for now most of them are faithful to the original game with slight changes to add more text in certain characters and keeping their original intended message (so far as I know). The new artstyle for portraits, sprites and scenery may look odd in certain areas and great in others, it's a hit/miss situation. And we have a new re-arranged soundtrack. I bought it despite those flaws because I love these series, it has 6 great games (yes, even Suikoden 4) with 2 VNs, and 3 decent spinoffs even if those are not related to the main timeline. It has an expansive lore that unfortunately was never finished and left many questions to be speculated in order to seek a response, and thus left the fans waiting for more of this franchise. It had nice characters with great development arcs and conflicts that kept stakes and interest in their stories. Luca Blight is still my favourite villain of any game I’ve ever played. And from party members, Sierra and Kasumi, whose designs are simple yet lovely, haven't been dethroned from my heart. I wish this series to continue on, and for the price, if I can play once again these games with a newly look and proper bug fixes that the original game had, support these series and hope for a new entry, then yes, it worth the price for 2 games and one of them being one of the best jrpgs I’ve ever played. Suikoden 1 and 2 are beloved not only because they were great games back on ps1, but because their story, music, characters and artstyle still holds up and are a joy to play even nowadays. If you don’t want to buy this remaster I can understand your point, but try the OG games, they are still great for today's standards. Besides, it’s also nice to see a work of Murayama being respected and in a modern engine with their original vision and story not being defiled, to keep his memory alive.Show moreShow less
Glitches carried over from the original versions are still unrepaired: 1. The infamous Recipe #34 2. Tai Ho becomes a not-Frenchman (Game breaking) 3. Farm animals and seeds do not properly trigger as available There are quality issues in terms of: 1. Not being able to completely quit the game. 2. Not able to change keyboard controls (this is rather poor work and easily should have been exposed in testing) 3. Music issues introduced from overworld and silences (this is new to this version) 4. The sprites for Suikoden I are jarring against the new landscapes as they apparently did not upscale the sprites. This is an AI job. There is a community patch for it already though. Overall, this was a very lazy port. I will not return this, but I am deeply unhappy that clear bugs were left to persist in this version, while introducing new bugs from the interface. Also, at the time of purchase (early buy), fully 35% of the players had beaten both games within the first hour of release and wrote reviews. Much of the early reviews are padded and do not take into account the clear usability issues that were apparent on the Day 1 release.Show moreShow less
I've been playing this game for over 20 years and make it a habit to replay and finish it every few years. Suikoden 2 is hands down the best JRPG story I've ever experienced. I still find myself crying during certain scenes, and you won’t believe how well-written the characters are—Jowy, Viktor, Flik, and especially Nanami. I never had a big sister, but I imagine it must feel like that when playing Nanami in this game. Buy it—you won’t regret it!Show moreShow less
As far as I can tell, this remaster is everything you'd hope game developers would make more often. It seems like a one-to-one recreation of the PS1 classics. NexusMods has a mod called Suikoden Fix that can remove the vignette filter. Censorship Update: Blood color changed and toned down. Cigarettes also removed. Crosses removed from North Window. Bug: Pohl in the start of Suikoden 2 doesn't tell the hero he needs flour and flint until boots are obtained.Show moreShow less
