For me, Sun Haven is a fun farming game that has a mix of RPG style gaming. You could focus more on the RPG part of it, but the predictability and rote repetition of farming is relaxing to me. I love that the developers added a sort of customized time frame for your day. I can't relax if I'm feeling rushed in my farming duties y'all! So it's def one of the things that drew me to the game. I used to play WoW and FFXIV with my husband of 16 years, but about 6 months ago he died; Sun Haven is a nice game to play on my own that fills that gaming void and doesn't constantly remind me of my missing paladin. Thank you to the devs for making this game.Show moreShow less
Cute content and visuals. Nice class system, unbalanced and useless with the "multiplayer" system. There's no true multiplayer, if you fight a boss with a friend, both will fight separated, layered. You can see and farm with your friend, that's it.Show moreShow less
The first instinct many people will have is compare this to Stardew Valley, because you play as a farmer who moves to a small town where some of the NPCs are romanceable. But that's basically where the similarities end. In Sun Haven, you get to be a fantasy race (if you want), magic, mana, and a skill tree with so many options it would be difficult to play the same way twice. Not only that, but NO STAMINA BAR! Keep farming, mining, and fighting to your hearts' content! -- While we're at it, the game also auto-saves, so you don't have to sleep away the day to save and quit, you can just quit when you're done. Life saver. There's a surprisingly large world to play in, too! You don't get the whole world right away and have to do quests to unlock your second and third farm, which are in fantasy towns with whole new wonderful settings, but I was able to get both of them in my first spring so it's not a huge roadblock in gameplay. There's 15 romance options, some of which are only available after unlocking the other towns. And I'm not sure if its just because the game is in early access or if its intended for the final game, but I for one really appreciate the fact that you can romance multiple characters at once: a lot of them are fun options AND they all have cute new sprites for each season! And even the characters I personally don't like, I can see why someone else would. My biggest complaints about this game are: - There's a very limited selection of hairstyles and they're all anime protag-esc, so good luck if you want a basic hairstyle. There's also pretty much only straight or wavy hair, no curly, afro, braided, or dread-like hairstyles. - The map could use some help. The player dot is itty-bitty and especially in the fantasy towns it can be hard to understand what part of the map is where. Could be fixed by making the player dot either larger, a different color, or possibly customizable. As for the towns, either make it stacked like it is walking around or at least indicate which segment is "below" which. ... That's about it. It's a good game. If you enjoy chill games, you'll LOVE this one.Show moreShow less
*Updated for v1.0.3* I really love this game, but that's why i'm leaving a negative review actually, because it deserves to be better. It just isn't finished, which is really disappointing for a game that has been in early access for ages and just released what is meant to be the finished product. And despite it clearly being unfinished, the devs are already planning DLC. While i do love this game, the amount of issues add up to really sour the overall experience, so i decided to put together this list of issues in the hopes that some negative criticism will encourage the devs to tackle the games problems. Multiplayer: Boss fights are separate for each player. Quests are separate for each player. Story and progress are separate for each player. Combat dungeon is separate for each player. Other players are sometimes invisible. The multiplayer is basically just single player with a roommate, it's bad. It feels like it's only there so the devs can advertise it as a multiplayer game despite not caring to actually make the game multiplayer. Bugs: Textures clip through each other a lot. Trees change completely during falling animation during winter. Pets fall in water while platforming, even though the patch notes said this was fixed on two separate occasions. Friends effects (air skip, arrow shots, etc.) show on your screen even if you're in a different place entirely. Screen tearing. LOTS of screen tearing. Can walk through the wall of the large tank in the aquarium. Quest start markers remain on the map after accepting the quest. There is a line of dialogue with Vaan where he gives you greenroot, but he doesn't actually give any. Some quests require a different amount of items than what they ask for. Sprites are often on the wrong layer. For example, Jun hides behind a chair he's presumably meant to be sat on in his date. Sometimes your spells just don't work. Sometimes everything just doesn't work and you're stuck for a moment, or until you restart the game. Sometimes you can clip inside something and get stuck. Many items say to discard them but they cannot be discarded. Sometimes the automatic collector just doesn't work. One of the combat trinkets seems to be bugged and only drops in certain seasons, making it difficult to complete the museum. Skills that restore mana when mining don't work in the Nel'Vari or Withergate mines. You can duplicate fish using aquariums. Dizzy is one of the glitchiest bosses i've ever seen. If you visit somebody at their house first thing in the morning, the game tells you it's too late, as though it's the end of the day and not the start. Anne says the same line twice in a date Sometimes you can't see your save files when trying to load game. Gameplay: Trees spawn in random places frequently, but drop saplings rarely, which is inconvenient and doesn't really make sense. Donating to the museum needs to be streamlined, and item descriptions should change to show if they've been donated or not. Some skills are comically bad, some are LITERALLY useless, and some are phenomenal; it's just strangely unbalanced. Quests are often VERY tedious and uninspired. "get 1000 stone" "get 3000 tickets" "get 1000 essence" "get 1000 stone again" "catch 50 fish" "catch 50 fish again" it just gets pretty boring. These are all actual quests that are pretty important too. House upgrades serve no gameplay benefit. It's just a bigger house. It doesn't add a kitchen or cellar or anything like in stardew, it's JUST bigger. Food is underpowered. Generally it just feels more worth it to eat fruits than make a meal for restoration. Fishing feels very complicated. You can get such a huge variety of fish from each area, so many of which are the same. It's hard to gauge where you need to be to catch each fish since it feels almost like you can catch almost everything from any single place. Even if you see the silhouette of a fish and complete the minigame to catch it, there's still a chance it's junk. Even though you saw the fish under the water. There are SO MANY different crafting tables, it takes up so much room on your farm and it's so hard to keep track of which table crafts which items. There is absolutely no need for there to be 4 or 5 different crafting stations for food. Just put them all in one. You spend so much time walking. There needs to be more fast travel locations. For example, Charon should have a port at the castle. General: Snaccoon plushies are almost all purple despite the snaccoons that drop them being different colours. Lots of the characters are really cool, but they're just side characters without art or much interactability. You could/should have made them fully fleshed out NPCs. Lemme date Beeanca, Tonya, Fidget, Christine, Honey, Wyatt, etc. Edit keybinds option doesn't let you edit all the keybinds, only some of them. Marriage is immensely disappointing. You basically just get a ring, not a spouse. You can't hug them, kiss them, interact with them in any interesting way, and they don't even have much new dialogue. They do move in if you have the fully upgraded house, but this isn't even communicated to you, so me and my friend didn't even realise that could happen and finished our playthrough without the upgraded house. The ending is also immensely disappointing. Nothing happens. It just shows the Quest Complete popup. There isn't any acknowledgement of it whatsoever. It's literally the entire plot of the story and should have changed everything now, but nothing actually changes. The small aquarium you get given to display fish only displays some specific fish. Many just default to the angel fish sprite. Guava berry is part of the summer crops museum bundle despite only growing in fall. Performance is quite bad. There is so much time spent looking at a black screen while the game loads, and many areas tank the framerate. It runs surprisingly poorly. The withergate mine train tickets are literally all the same. Only the cheapest ticket is worth getting. The game says you need 5 hearts to enter someones house, but you actually only need 2 or 3. Every single character in the game says the exact same line when you ask to date them. There's lots of useless items in the game. If they exist to be trashed like dead crops, don't put them in our inventory. If they exist to be sold like Dizzy's drops, express that in the description. As of right now, you're likely to be storing lots of things you'll never need. Mounts have no differences besides how the look and how badly they displace your character sprite. Like, there's no special abilities to them or different movement speeds, there just isn't any reason to use any mount other than whatever is cheapest. Some are so big and displace your sprite so badly that it makes them almost unusable too. The 15 heart events are way too structured. They act surprised to see you, say a few lines, kiss, say i love you, then you leave. There is no room for them to show personality or character. If you've seen one, you've essentially seen them all. You can date everyone at once with nobody ever acknowledging it. Not even if you're married. You can actually even marry several people at once, as the check to see if you're single or not only applies once you're married, and not engaged. If you divorce a spouse they don't even acknowledge it. Switch version of the game won't have multiplayer because the devs priority is on releasing the game as quickly as possible. That is literally what the director of the game said. Their priority isn't on giving their fans what they paid for, or giving us a good product, their focus is on rushing the release. It's amazing they can say that and not see any issue with it lmaoShow moreShow less

Do not buy this game. Regardless of the quality, Pixel Sprout Studios has been shown to have mistreated and underpaid nearly all of its employees, as well as having committed fraud by misclassifying employees as independent contractors. Additionally, after all this time, they still have not added credits either in-game or on their website, and has actively prevented their workers from stating publicly that they have worked on the game, even going to the point of removing the staff list from the Kickstarter campaign page after the campaign was long since finished. Bruce, the head of the studio, has been proven by worker testimonies to be greedy and abusive, and shows no promise of change. Nothing can justify or excuse this behavior.Show moreShow less
I remember buying this game for my sister a few years back. Didn't think much of it at the time, but I thought it would be a nice gift for her. I remember seeing her playing it from time to time, the message indicating that she'd started playing it popping up on the corner of my screen. There was always a certain small pride in seeing that, because to me it meant that she was enjoying my gift. Last September she committed suicide. After everything had more or less settled down from that, I sat down and booted up her computer. All that was on there was Chrome, Steam, Word, and a few games. One of them, of course, was Sunhaven She had played this game to pieces, clocking over 170 hours and owning practically everything the game had to offer. She had used every square inch to its maximum potential, and was making ridiculous amounts of loot. It was only then did I see just how much she loved my present. No other game she played quite captured her affection as much as this one. None of her friends really knew about it, however; it seems like she preferred to keep it to herself. Like it was her own little bit of heaven she could turn to whenever she wanted. And because of that, I can't help but smile whenever I play this game. I cannot recommend it enough; every bit of hard work the developer put into this masterpiece shows in every single aspect. The music is catchy and memorable (I'll often find myself humming certain tunes from it), the world feels lived-in and natural, and the gameplay is incredibly laid back and enjoyable. It's hard to stop once I get invested in the game; minutes can easily turn into several hours. And now, with the multiplayer beta, I play for even longer with my friends, each of us dedicated to our desired jobs. Most of all, however, we're all just happy to be together.Show moreShow less
Game itself had lots of potential. Unfortunately I do not recommend supporting this game as the behaviour of the developer is less than commendable. From exploiting good will of the community, underpaying artists, refusing to give credits and another slew of shady activities, pixel sprouts has shown no improvement despite promises. You won't hear about it on their reddit or discord, as they're big fans of censorship. The art in this game is definitely one of the biggest appeals, and to know that the conditions in which the art was made was one of stress, exploitation and corporate gaslighting, really sours the whole deal.Show moreShow less
The only problem i have is.... why is the delete button is just right above the load?! i clicked wrong and my char got deleted, the scary part was that they dont have a confirmation button with it. Hope this can be change soon.Show moreShow less
TL; DR - No. No. Nonono. Get My Time at Sandrock or Roots of Pacha instead. Stop rewarding developers for schlepping out unfinished crap while nickel & diming their loyal fanbase. Your spouse doesn't even have marriage dialogue or sleep in your bed, and they're already charging for DLCs. AS OF JUNE, this still isn't fixed. Nuff said. This game is three snaccoons in a trench coat. I think the studio has run out of capital and is trying to cover it up. Longer version: I had *such* high hopes for this game. I've had this game since pretty early in EA, and I've been active in the Discord since about the same time. I loved Trio of Towns, and a spin on that with monsters and elves sounded AWESOME. Development honestly went pretty well until version 0.8. Nonsensically, they released a different game reusing the SH assets. Understandably, most of the fanbase were confused and nervous for what this meant for Sun Haven development and support, but most people held out some hope. Then, the full release came a week later - after all other major releases taking weeks or months. Again, players were confused, but were excited to dive into the finished, polished game. That excitement was almost immediately snuffed out. I'm mostly going to focus on gameplay, so let's get into it. It's not the little bugs, like clipping through the aquarium in the museum. I think these fans have been MORE than tolerant of a certain level of jank. It's things like multiplayer still being broken & crashing, major bugs like the game skipping dates with bachelor/ettes, and NO END GAME. That's right - the end game came out in 1.1. It's not like the wait was terribly long, but this should be setting off warning bells. I don't think the game loop was even properly thought out, or designed - it's hard to explain just how difficult and tedious to manage and travel between all three farms and cities, You don't have a real sense of progression and investment in any of the communities - you're just floating through to finish chores and rush off to the next place so you can get everything finished. Your time and assets are spread thin; there are craftables that make farming all crops possible on your Sun Haven farm, but they're expensive & annoying to acquire. Let's talk about crafting for a second. The game has introduced maybe 20-30? different crafting tables now, and crafting has been nerfed by making each item take longer to craft AND require more materials to do so. AND you can't craft from chests. So the gameplay goes - you want to craft something. You have to remember what machine crafts it out of your 20, what the recipe is, make sure the material is in your backpack, and then wait ages for it to finish. It's a ridiculous blunder, nearly impossible to manage along with the farms, and just abysmal design. It feels like predatory mobile game design more than an enjoyable life-sim experience. There are *plenty* of examples of games that do crafting well. As I've mentioned, there's even a farming game that does managing 3 towns well. I truly can't fathom why or how they came to think this design was going to feel satisfying or enjoyable. It makes me doubt their competency in understanding game design as a discipline. This isn't even the worst part for me. I always enjoy the relationships, both romance and platonic, in these games, and they greatly affect my opinion of a game. To those who share that sentiment, I feel like all I need to say is: there is NO post-marriage content. Even if your partner lives in a different city, they move to Sun Haven with you - which creates some ludonarrative dissonance for some partners on its own - but your partner will just straight up vanish from your house. If they do sleep in your house, they sleep in a separate bed from you. You can't have children, it might come "later this year". So you invest yourself in a particular story, get married, and then your partner barely acknowledges your new relationship status, won't sleep in the same room, and will sometimes just disappear completely in the morning. Cool. So the studio has time to make a new game, charge for a DLC with 4 mounts (a separate issue I'll get into), and make tons of new & useless crafting tables - but can't fix a BASIC relationship component? Again, whoever is making the game direction & design decisions has fumbled so drastically, I can't believe there isn't more outrage. The studio has not had stellar communication, and seems to gloss over these major concerns and major bugs from much earlier versions that are STILL yet to be fixed, while trying to charge for new cosmetics. They refuse to share a bugfix roadmap; I think it might be because they don't have one. For the Switch backers, the company again has shied away from addressing the valid concerns of players who backed the project on Kickstarter and have no ETA on a Switch release, and they won't give those players a Steam key instead. They've done nothing to make it right. I see these questions pile up in the Discord and they just....go unanswered, except to say "it's Nintendo's fault". If that is true, you can still make good to your backers by giving them a Steam key. The lack of proactive response to faithful backers is exactly why people don't trust EA titles, and for good reason. This is already too long so I'll sum up with 2 last pieces. This new mount DLC.....it will go down as the farming sim equivalent Skyrim horse armor. I've touched on some of the larger issues (there are still more but I don't want to be *that* exhaustive) that have no fix in sight, a good portion of the playerbase can't even access the game they backed, and they feel justified in charging MORE money for a couple of glittery mounts? Incredibly, incredibly tacky behavior. To say the least. My last point will be comparing this game to another recent farming sim release at a similar price point, Roots of Pacha. They didn't squeeze every last drop out of players through EA and waited to publish the game until it was finished, it has multiplayer that actually *works*, they managed to release it on Switch (gasp!) and other platforms (maybe Pixel Sprout can ask them for help?), AND it brings something new and refreshing to the genre which required original thought. The games should be examined in parallel because it paints a stark picture of just how much players are getting ripped off and taken for a ride by Sun Haven and its developers. Whatever excuses they have are meaningless, because another studio at the same size has JUST done it successfully. It puts all the failure of delivery squarely on Pixel Sprout's shoulders - you should be ashamed. Truly. So - don't listen to the cozy game streamers talking about how this is the "best cozy farming sim?!?". They either haven't gotten that far in this game, or are just lemmings hyping this game because everyone else is. If the game undergoes major changes and Pixel Sprout actually respects its fanbase (you know, the people who got you here?), I'll update and change my review happily. Right now, this is a helter-skelter of half-finished good ideas bled for every cent. I implore you to take your money elsewhere; I wish I had. ETA: holy crap, I can't believe I forgot that this game doesn't even have adequate controller support, STILL. A problem that has persisted since early days in EA. What a s*** show.Show moreShow less
