Let me start by saying I like the whole gameplay loop, as well as the lack of pay-to-win mechanics in the game. I am however, not recommending this game due to a bad experience with the community in game, and the mods on discord. I was playing SOLO games today, and people were teaming up. A group of 4 players were teaming up, not killing each other, attacking me, and helping each other win in SOLO matches. I couldn't report fast enough in the game & it was about the whole team, so I just went to the discord and wrote up the story. It took me 10 or so minutes to write it up in a very thorough and detailed manner. When I posted it in discord a mod instantly deleted my post which took me considerable time and effort to write.. in an attempt to help them with their game! Worst off, the mod and other people in the Discord "thanked me" by accusing me of starting a witch hunt, mocking my name in discord etc. I instantly left the discord server. I'm sad because I was enjoying this game and have gotten into it over the last week with my girlfriend and my other friend. Mods, please don't allow your discord mods to flame people reporting genuine bad behaviour. Also, please don't allow teaming up in solo. It's absolutely gamebreaking.Show moreShow less

It's a really cute and undoubtedly adorable game. Well done and with a beautiful and probably nostalgic beginning. Unfortunately, if you become a pro player the community will do everything to get you banned. (salty). I suggest using a random name and not your nickname or brand. - Some developers don't do their job. - Being toxic like a ♥♥♥♥ is normal, even though the rules say to be good and loving with the other players. - A fake screen can ruin your account. Because developers believe in 3rd category photoshop pics. - They accuse players without a specific reason. - One of the worst communities in history in my opinion. Play this game only with your friends. I'm the highest level of the game and I have the most experience in this game. - Doggett -Show moreShow less
Basically, it's a 2D battle royale game where you fight 63 other colorful animals to the death with guns and various melee weapons (lollipops, newspaper, fly swatters, pizza cutters, etc.). It's fun, cartoony, silly, and cute, and I love every bit of that. Oh, and this game penalizes death with random, bad animal puns, so prepare to get "diskoalafied" a lot. The gameplay is very fun, and it's great when you get better at it! In fact, there are also a wide variety of weapons for different play styles, and most weapons have some sort of a more rare upgraded version: Do you like firing fast? Get an SMG (or Thomas Gun) or a Pistol (or Silenced Pistol) Do you like instantly destroying people up close? Grab a Shotgun (or JAG-7) Prefer to pick off people from a distance? Get a Hunting Rifle (or Sniper Rifle) Hunting rifle too slow? Get a Magnum (or Deagle) Want to track enemies? Get a Bow and Sparrow (or Sparrow Launcher) Want to remove multiple people from the game really fast? The minigun is super fun Like healing teammates or doing poison damage that completely ignores armor? Grab a dart gun Like explosions? Grab some grenades Don't like the delay on grenades? Get skunk bombs Want to infuriate your enemies with memes? Throw a banana to slip them, then grab a hamster ball and run them over You have so many options for playing this game or trying new things. You can hold two weapons (besides melee and grenades), so try mixing and matching and see what you like most. There are no wrong answers here (though holding TWO shotguns probably isn't the best strategy, but you CAN do it if you want to!). It's not really a rock-paper-scissors sort of game, either, since you can hold both the "rock" and "scissors" at the same time. There are also a wide variety of places to go in this game, and the map design overall is really good and has a lot of content in it for you to explore and find more stuff in. And, yeah, there's actually lore in this game! Cool, huh?? The community is also pretty good here, especially outside of the game, though the in-game chat pre-game can be... weird. Let's just say it's not moderated very well. Community interaction is something the developers do a pretty good job at, and they're especially good with content creators like streamers and people who make videos. The soundtrack by Jake Butineau is also really good. You can get it on Bandcamp or listen to it on Spotify or YouTube. I recommend giving it a listen! And now for the obvious elephant in the room (besides the fact you can't yet play as a hamster even though there are hamster balls) This game is free-to-play. But spending money DOES grant you access to more content. Here's the usual preface that the game makes clear: There is absolutely no gameplay advantage or incentive to actually spend money on this game. In fact, not even the free unlocks do anything to gameplay. Your character, gameplay-wise, is the same the first time you play the game as it will be the 1000th time. So, being a tap dancing cyberpunk tiger wielding a giant axe will not make you any more or less powerful than the default fox. And the Default Dance is the best dance, anyway! HOWEVER, if you don't buy the Super Edition (around $15 at the time of writing this), some milestones (therefore, some unlockable cosmetics) are not available to you. Of course, the game will track your stats, so if you DO decide to buy it later, you can simply go back and click "Unlock" on all of the milestones you unlocked. Also, while there are loads of free stuff you can unlock, it's worth noting that Carl coins drop twice as much with the Super Edition, which means some of these free unlocks may take longer to get if you don't have it than if you did. I don't consider this one-time thing a "microtransaction" since it's a one-time purchase that gets you a large portion of the game. But yes, like many free-to-play games (or even paid games nowadays), this game ALSO has a premium currency ("SAW tickets"). There are no gambling mechanics, and anything that can be unlocked through gameplay - which is most things - CANNOT be unlocked through microtransactions (and vice versa). Not everyone is OK with microtransactions (and if you aren't, you've probably made up your mind about the game at this point!), but it's at the very least an honest system Pixile has here. Overall... This game is fun to play over and over again! While it has risen in popularity recently, it's not MASSIVELY popular yet, with typically only around 500-1500 players online depending on what time you play the game. So, you may find that games can often take between 2-4 minutes to fill. It does have bots, meaning you're going to be seeing people like "Dave from Sales" and "Not a bot" a lot in here. Bots provide a fair challenge, but once you figure out how they work, they're pretty easy to deal with (unless you're alone against a group of bots... oh dear). So, I'm going to give this game a recommendation! The core gameplay is quite fun, and it's free, so there's nothing to lose by merely trying it. Other battle royales didn't really click for me, but this game sure does!Show moreShow less
While a fun game with friends id recommend against it if your anywhere within the oceanic region as your only options are either asia or north america servers with either choice giving you around 250 ping, making it impossible to play the game unless you have a crystal ball that can tell what happens 1 second ahead of whats going on (and even then enjoy dying because people were shooting at where you were a second ago but still counting as a hit) when oceanic servers are added i'll be more than happy to delete this review and be able to enjoy the game properly againShow moreShow less

I never write reviews for games, ever. But because I have 1300+ hours in this game, I feel like I can make a review that people should definitely consider. This game is an absolute blast to play casually. There's a reason why I come back to this game and just play it out of spite. It has a fantastic concepts, with great execution. I think the way to truly enjoy this game is to play with friends because you will die, a lot. And dying isn't fun in any game anyways so losing together and winning together is definitely the way to go. That being said, I'll move over to why I wouldn't recommend playing this game more than you think you should. I have played this game for around 3 years at this point, since late May of 2019. I've watched this game transform in many ways. Both for the better and for the worse. I won't get in depth with everything, but I will mention the biggest issues that are still applicable as of writing this review. If you're trying to get competitive at this game like how I did, it's a lost cause. I think the number one reason for this is because of the game's lag. In most of other games, lag is a disadvantage because of the fact you respond slower to enemy actions. But in Super Animal Royale, lag can actually be an advantage. I won't go completely in depth with how the net code and lag system works, but in the simplest words: if you hit the enemy on your screen, it counts. This is a huge issue (and I have over 40 video clips to back me up here) due to the fact that if you're trying really hard to learn the best skills and mechanics in getting good at this game (bullet dodging, efficient movement, leading aim, best load-outs, etc), then it becomes almost useless if you're facing against someone who's lagging. They will end up hitting you on their screen with their bullets, when on your screen, their bullets are missing and whiffing pass you. This becomes extremely annoying after it starts to happen consistently against you, and ends up making you lose matches because of it. Also to mention, people can lag so hard that they end up having jagged movement, causing you to miss a lot of your own shots. I've also been the one to care for the numbers and statistics of weapon damage, METAs, and overall competitiveness of the game. And when I take a look at the current state of weapon balance, it's not good. There's always different types of playstyles in order to have better chances in winning against certain weapons, but most of time, it doesn't matter against automatic weapons, AK being the worst to play against. Now I'm not here to keep elaborating on every single reason why each and every weapon can be fixed, but I will say a couple. Shotguns and JAG-7s need to have lower bullet range (like seriously who thought a shotgun can be a long range weapon AND completely destroy level 3 armor, actually unbelievable). Sniper rifles need a revamp in recoil where slowing down and scoping in has significantly better accuracy than just straight pulling the weapon out of your pocket while super rolling all over the place and firing a straight lazer to your opponent. BCG has a tracer now, why does the bow not have a tracer? They're both charge up weapons, what makes the BCG have it and the bow doesn't? The crossbow kind of needs a buff if its going to be considered an epic/legendary weapon since the main issue being it can't take down people fast enough especially with its clip size being so small, even the Bow would be a better choice because of the fact it can infinitely shoot. Both the Bow and Crossbow almost serve the same purpose in the game, just the Bow being a straight upgrade. AKs, SMGs, M16s, Tommys, all auto weapons need some sort of nerf. I'm not saying to lower down their damage or fire rate directly. That's not what they need. They need some sort of counter play to those who click and hold their mouse down while spraying and praying to win the game. Because it legit is that easy to win the game as long as you have an AK. I can suggest adding a throwable item that slows down the rate of fire of the opponent's weapon to counter automatic weapons. All other weapons are completely fine as is. However, I do wish that there weren't just new weapons that are just upgrades of other weapons. For example, the Deagle is just a better Magnum. Why add a new weapon if it's just the same weapon but better? Same applies with the AK and M16. It makes no sense to me to add a new weapon that is quite literally the same exact thing. Also another thing to mention is to balance the movement speeds of each weapon, biggest issue being JAG-7 users who run at 100mph with only needing 2 shots to kill people. Edit 8/27/22: I would also like to mention another issue with this game, that being the micro transactions. There are a couple of things you can purchase with real money in game, all of which are cosmetics that do not provide a pay-to-win advantage. The premium currency in this game are SAW Tickets, which like other games, can buy you premium cosmetics that are unattainable through playing the game alone, or used to buy the Animal Pass (battle pass). Now let's take a closer look at the pricing. You can basically just say that for $1, you can get 100 tickets. I am currently looking at the shop for what you can buy and, theres a fork in the game you can hold as a melee weapon for 500 tickets. An entire $5 for one single item you can hold, and you're probably like not going to even hold it for a while because you need to hold guns instead to kill. Lets go ahead and compare it with something like the cost of Undertale, which is $10. There are also other things you can buy such as a single mini pet in the game for 750 tickets. We can also compare it to another aspect of the game, that being the Animal Pass. The current Animal Pass is only 550, and if you end up completing it, you get 29 different cosmetics, a bunch of Carl Coins (which can be used to buy even more cosmetics), a mini pet, and get 350 Tickets back. So for basically 200 Tickets, you can get all of that. Now that is what the game's micro transactions should be. Just like how I have played Rocket League in the past, cars were only a dollar each (they aren't anymore but that's besides the point). And even then, I was able to trade up a few of my Rocket Pass items away to obtain the next pass and continue my pass. In essence, SAR's battle passes are good, but buying single cosmetic items are way too costly. To conclude, SAR is a great casual game for those looking to try something new with their friends, but not for those looking to actually try and get good at. It's completely valid to try and improve on winning in this game, but just remember that you will have those lost games you should have won. Hopefully this helps! Edit 2/7/23: Alright, I don't think I made it clear enough, my bad. I'm not trying to say that this is a bad game. It is a fabulous game for casual players like 99% of the community. It's fun to play with friends, and just a great game to play if you're running out of ideas. This game is extremely addictive, and in all ways, a well rounded one. I'm only not recommending this game to those who wish to see the game in a different light, the light I wanted to shed it on aka the competitive side of it. I know that there's also a player base who want to genuinely get good at games, and for those of you who want to get good at it, this isn't for you for the reasons I have stated above. Thus why I don't recommend it because I am a competitive player myself.Show moreShow less

The largest update so far released has completely missed its mark; While it's an upgrade in some parts, it's also a huge downgrade in others. The hub world, while cool, makes user experience worse by adding unnecessary input to basic functionalities, breaking what already worked just fine pre-update. The core gameplay remains mostly unchanged compared to the first versions of the game, as grinding, completing RNG-based quests and reading hundreds of NPC dialogue are prioritized over the game itself. Grinding, of course, in regard to bug-catching and fishing.. It seems to have taken inspiration from Webfishing; a social game where grinding and completing your fish journal was a side activity to help pass time. In Super Animal Royale, the roles are reversed: Grinding takes the priority, while socializing is optional. Bonus points for artificially increasing player retention by delaying quests so you have to come back the next day to continue them, rather than playing them at your own pace. Because finishing all the quests in one or two days would be horrible for player numbers, right? Who doesn't love a dark pattern in your game.. The game is really okay, but the more you play, the more it feels like one big mini-game, and the updates seem to help it go nowhere. If you felt bored before, you will be bored now - It's still the good old repetitive battle royale, but this time with fireworks and sparkles.Show moreShow less
