I hate to jump to conclusions, but I already knew that Super Hexagon was not for me after 4 minutes of gameplay. Not to say the game is bad, I’m just not particularly fond of masochism under the influence of LSD. In all seriousness, the abundance of movement makes this game too trippy and difficult for me to justify the reward, which just seems to be the prestige of beating this game. The trailer will give you a good indication of what you’re signing up for. Played with keyboard ✔️Positive: Simple, cool and clean. The sleek visuals paired with the cool high tempo soundtrack are essentially what drew me in. ❌Negative: Despite looking great, the game becomes way too busy too quickly. Colors flash, the screen pulsates, the direction of rotation changes, and obstacles modify/transform as you’re trying to thread the needle at a really high tempo. I almost immediately got a headache and knew that I wouldn’t enjoy it. What really throws me off is that the arrow isn’t centered at each face of the hexagon. It seems logical that the arrow would jump to the adjacent face of the hexagon with every press of a directional button but this isn’t the case. I find that the game is difficult enough without the need for (seemingly) imprecise movement. 🏅Verdict: ★★☆☆☆ I surrender I enjoy difficulty when it is well paired with other gaming features, such as story, atmosphere, gradual progression, etc, which is not the case here. Super Hexagon is too busy and is difficult for the sake of difficulty. I understand that this game is intended to be exceptionally challenging but it is not my idea of fun. Clearly, Super Hexagon isn’t intended for me so don’t take this review to heart. If you are intrigued by the trailer, then by all means, give this game a shot. However, if you are anything like me, I recommend that you avoid this at all costs. This game is PURE EVIL! So there your are and it's another Steam sale. You're browsing through the under $5 section and notice an interesting thing. A cute little game 90% off for only 29 cents, what a great buy! That's where it all goes wrong. You don't want to rush things just yet but rather savor the moment while looking at the game trailer. Cool soundtrack, fastpaced arcade action, and a great Metacritic score. This game is an excellent pickup and a little stocking stuffer for my steam friends! You sell a few trading cards and then make your purchase. Takes about 5 seconds to install and you're ready to go. Now the game begins! Level 1: Hexagon Difficulty: Hard. Please...I'm sure it's a challenge but to call Level 1 Hard is kinda pushing it right? Game Over. Ok learning the feel of the controls. Game Over. Alright got it down. Game Over. Pushed button too long, oops. Game Over. I hate using WASD, switching to Arrows. Game Over. Wow that was even worse, lets plug in the Xbox 360 controller. Game Over. Ok triggers suck, analog stick time. Game Over. D-pad? Game Over. WOW 31 seconds, a personal best!!! Game Over. Begin. Game Over. Begin. Game Over. Begin. Oh my gosh make it stop. This game will take you from interested, up to the challenge, frustrated, angry, crying, and finally rage quitting. If you like torturing yourself with video games then this is the game for you. If you don't have reflexes like Spider-Man and don't have access to a super mutated spider, don't play this game. The End.Show moreShow less

Super Hexagon is an experience from different universe. It´s pretty simplistic, but completely genius in certain way. Point of the game is to avoid obstacles, coming from six directions (or less, when map changes the pace), with little triangle moving 360 around the center. Simple, right? Not so fast! To complete the stage, you need to survive for 60 seconds, during which game changes speed, rotation, tilt, patterns, number of directions and colors. If you die, you start from the zero. And you will die, A LOT. I think that having easiest mode labeled as "hard" speaks for itself. Compared to this, every nightmare mode (insert game of your chioce here) feels like a child´s play. Prepare to have you memory and reactions challenged. Important aspects to be talked are actual fun and enjoyment. While it is really challenging and satisfying, I miss something that would make me to come back. All you can really do is to practice and die until you get to some point, where you would even dream about hexagons. Idea is great, music is great, voices are great. But it just feels to me there are so many other games that you would like to spend time with, rather than Super Hexagon. I´m sorry, but recommending the game would be hypocritical at this point, I will have to go different way than the crowd. But still, you might want to check it out, before trusting some random guy. And, also, big respect for those that managed to complete the game! *Played with controller (alternatively playable with keyboard or mouse - all are OK) ***** 5/10 ***** 50%Show moreShow less
