I had looked forward to this. I didn't like the Demo, but hoped It would get better, sadly it didn't It is not the Steel Fury Kharkov sucessor that I hoped. It is arcady, even in simulator mode. But still clunky with unintuitive controls. (Like why cant I change the ammo type as a commander?) Also there is no tutorial. Just a shooting range and the Campaign. No explanation on how to spawn more than one Tank, no introduction on the infantery. The viewing ports of the Tiger don't work, (they freeze when you zoom in on them) and for the Panzer III they aren't even implemented. Overall it feels very unfinished sadly.Show moreShow less
The game needs Work but still is very enjoyable. We need just to wait from the developer to improve it.From my point of view ,if you like a game support it. I was waiting the game and i do not have any problem to wait more and see it improving. About the negative reviews that people rushed to write down in less than 2 hours playing i can say that they had lack of attention from their parents when they were kids! i even saw a negative review from someone about that there wasnt a remap of controls ,because he couldnt even bother to go to settings and he gave review with 0.1 hours.. Dont be that guy.Grow up and stop complaining. So be supportive if you like the project. Dont be complaining brats. Play the demo and if you dont like it,just dont buy it. And if someone feel offended by this post.........GROW UP!!!Show moreShow less
They have done it again .full of promises but continously failing . they promised they were going to add loads of maps and other content in early access then they dont they wrap it up and release it before fulfilling their promises . their great at selling you fantastic ideas but never see it through. they did exactly the same with tank mechanic simulator. what could have been a great game never got the content it deserved .they are like children getting bored and moving on to other great ideas before finishing and seeing through their current projects. im very angry they fooled me twice now with false promises i can promise you now im done with these jokers. im a builder by trade im pretty sure if you paid me to build you a house and i got bored half way through and built you a bungalow instead. id would be going to court for it,but seems this is acceptable practice in the gaming world.Show moreShow less
FACT: Game probably should have been listed as "early access" due to the unfinished state and bugs. FACT: Game is certainly playable and enjoyable even with the problems. FACT: Devs appear to be working very hard to fix the game issues and add more content. FACT: Game is a "diamond in the rough" that has lots of potential, but unless we support it by purchasing and playing now, Tank Squad may never become the game we all want to see in the future. BUY THIS GAME!Show moreShow less
As of now the game is still not at all finished or ready in my opinion. Just for clarification this is not a negative review but a Neutral with a slightly more negative lean. Presented UI is kind of all over the place and I've seen some improvements from the updates made by the devs so it seems like those issues will be ironed out soon. My advice is to really narrow it down as it honestly kind of overwhelmed me trying to understand some of the basic UI elements in the game. The actual game play out side of the repair section is quite good but there are some teething issues and some pet peeves of mine. The tank ballistics are quite accurate and good but there are some strange behaviors that I can't quite understand. Major one being a T-34-76 not taking any damage from a frontal plate shot from an 88mm from a tiger. I make no claims on my expertise on the manner of ballistics such as Over matching and Shell Interaction with armor itself but as far as I'm aware the t-34-76 would be toast in every manner if it found itself on the receiving end of a 88mm shell at pretty much all reasonable combat ranges besides the outrageous. Yes the sloped armor is a great addition to its ballistic profile and encourages deflection of rounds, but the 88 would cut through it rather easily especially at the close ranges I was some how getting no damage shots from on level ground. Even using the provided shaped charge rounds which ignore angle's did nothing. I don't quite under stand how a close range shot at level ground with the deadliest cannon available would simply not do anything. Judging by this game seemingly wanting to be a simulator I'm more surprised the affected T-34 could even return fire after having their bell rung by a high velocity shell slamming into them. Besides the ballistic issue's the product presented is rough but promising, AI still needs some work and the aforementioned UI elements need some ironing out but I do see promise in this game. Keep it up devs. Edit 11-15-25- After the 1.1.7 patch a LOT of the random no damage and ricochet shots have been handled. However, there are still some issues with ballistics that I will chalk to the system just not being mature enough in development. For now Ballistics are "OKAY". Issues with UI elements, AI having eyes in the back of their head or being absolute neanderthals in uniform still stand. The improvements are showing some results but the game still has a LONG way to go before I recommend it.Show moreShow less
Alright, let's get down to it. There is a lot of love behind this project, you can feel that they look for authenticity everywhere. However, there is work to do to make this a good simulation. The launch was disastrous but the devs are listening and working hard. PROS - Several tanks to choose from: Panzer I, II, III, IV, V and VI. Looking forward to see more medium armored vehicles like Pumas and scout amored cars. You can also play as the soviets in a mini campaign. - Customization! You can edit almost every aspect of your panzer, from the camo to the stickers, to various attachments like side panels. Not sure if they actually buff the defense, still need to test that. No customizations for soviet tanks for now. - Mechanic mode. Before every engagement, your lobby is a yard where you can set almost every aspect of your tank. Repair damage, replace parts, fix captured vehicles to use against your enemy... - Good sound design. Needs a bit of a rework in the tank interior. - Multiplayer, you can replay every mission with your friends. Very stable! - AI control works well, you can request anything from cannon fodder infantry to other panzers, to stuka bombings, smoke and even various types of artillery. AI can mount on your tank and ride along. - Good destruction mechanics that need some polishing though. - Simulation mode: this won't make the tank mechanics any different, you will just have a limited HUD and have to rely more on your eyes and comrades spotting abilities. - Multicrew mode. Works a lot like Steel Beasts, so you can order your crew members around. The gunner will decide which ammo to use automatically, which is fairly cool. CONS - The AI is terrible. Infantry especially will simply run into your threads and get smashed. No tactical decisions ever. - Enemy tanks or anti-tanks are either snipers or blind. They seem to ignore obstable masking once they have you pinned down. - Tank interior graphics are blocky and low res as hell. Not sure if they will be fixed in the future, but they need to. - Visual effects for explosions can be improved a lot, same goes for smoke and dirt. Overall, I would say Tank Squad has taken finally the right path and needs to stay on it for a good while. After IL-2 Tank Crew became deserted, we desperately need another good Panzer game.Show moreShow less
[Edit] I ask that everyone also check the comments of this post, since it provides better insight and a developer's opinion. It's been three weeks and another 20 in-game hours since the release of Tank Squad, so how does it stack up now after my initial opinions? Well, not great, to be blunt. Now understand, the devs are making great strides, much more than I would expect of most other development studios, and doing everything they can to crush every bug in the game which is simply amazing. On the other hand, though, they have already released their current road map for the game. This is not an issue. However, there isn't anything explicitly in the road map to optimize or better the game based on the most prevalent issues, simply to expand the game. This is an issue to me for the fact that the actual gameplay is a major issue (see original review) and there seems to be zero indication of it being reworked, in either the combat or repair scenarios. In combat, the enemy indicators are extremely inconsistent. I can either see a T-34 marker from 400m through trees, or be blind to a ZiS-3 at 200m that I am aiming at. Bushes, branches, and picket fences completely stop my 75mm AP shells. Tanks still spawn at odd corners, which wouldn't be as angering as it is stressful, if the game's AI actually worked at all, which is a horrendous issue in of itself. The last grievance I will raise at this time is the repair in the game. It was said in a pre-release dev log that "[Tank Squad] grew so much that it is basically a continuation of Tank Mechanic to some extent." I mention Tank Mechanic in my original review and point out this game is nothing like it, which is an immense disappointment to me and if I had been aware likely would have prevented my purchase. However, this is also likely because I have 129 hours in the game and want to play it with *aspects* of Tank Squad, not the other way around, which in all reality, Tank Mechanic is not present in this game besides the UI. I apologize for such an expansive attachment to my original review, but with a forum to express my opinion and allow others to disagree I feel the conversation is important. To anyone who has read this far, you have my thanks. If you ask do I recommend this game, the answer unfortunately remains no. My honest review of Tank Squad at this time is that it is borderline unplayable. It is attempting to mix Easy Red 2 and Tank Mechanic Sim to create a very realistic game where the tank unit you are in fights and repairs between missions, which I adore immensely and have been excited to try for many months, but it doesn't work due to one key reason. The game is so oversaturated in command menus and keybinds that it is impossible to actually play the main premise of the game which is controlling a tank. Second to this is the horrible spawning and movement mechanics that make it to where you are either turkey-shooting T-34s, or you are being sniped from 400m away in the only portion of your Panther of which could be pierced or you are being jumped from behind because the mission spawned a new enemy tank after you entered the objective. It should be massive alarm bells to the development team that only around 23% of players have even repaired a tank in the game made by the TMS devs because no one wants to or can complete the first mission. So much of the game's immediate issues would be solved by moving away from Easy Red and it's massive amount of menus, streamlining the commands into a single keybind with menus, and actually adding a tutorial rather than paragraphs explaining what something is intended to do. As it stands, unfortunately, I do not recommend this game.Show moreShow less
A (careful) thumbs up from me. This game is a little bit of a rough diamond. The framework is all there. You can command single tanks, either as a "one man crew" like in War Thunder or World of Tanks, or with friends in Co-Op. If you did play one of the aformentioned games, you will notice a pretty similar gameplay with some simulation aspect. You can command Fire Support, Infantry etc. Right now, all these are still a bit rough to use, since there are a lot of menus in menus. Clicking through them and learning where the ones you need are will take a bit of patience. But the battles feel alive, you got clear goals, missions (especially the campaign missions) are quite a undertaking with several missions, fights against tanks and infantry and AT-Weapons. Right now, it feels a bit like the AI can easily spot you through grass (i.E. longer grass on a hilltop you try to use as hull down) but its nothing gamebreaking. Next thing is is management aspect. In your base camp, you can repair vehicles, refuel and rearm then, buy new vehicles and infantry support, convert or scavange/sell friendly and enemy damaged/destroyed vehicles you can capture after battle. This is fun, but if you prefer not to involve yourself in that you can either automate it (costs a bit of ressources) or even play all Missions in Single Missions mode. Which I think is a great thing for those who just want to go in and shoot some tanks up. The developers are quite active on the bug front, you get a quick reply if you find one. You can also use a bug tracker. The one bug that made me not play was fixed the next day. Content Wise, it was promised to be one Campaign, which they released. I therefore dont understand people who complain "only one campaign". I am sure they will release more in the future, after having this game fixed enough. They had a demo released for quite some time, but my guess is that either the release brought in more bugs or that most people just played the game and not reported issues. So its hard to blame them for not having a bug free release. Anyways, if you like the settings, I can recommend you buy. Its not bank breaking. If you are on the fence, keep an eye out for future updates, just dont dismiss this game quite yet.Show moreShow less
Overall, Its actually pretty fun - WW2 tank combat in a Warthunder style. BUT... For one thing, its definitely not for hardcore milsim types, since its not that realistic. AI is also really dumb right now, and you can complete most missions single-handedly without any support if you know what you're doing. TLDR: Shows promise, but pretty barebones right now. Recommend sitting on it for a while and letting the devs cook more stuff up and fix issues.Show moreShow less
