4/5/2024 Art in the game doesn't seem to just be hard generated AI assets now (I hope) so I'm updating my review; however, I will note that the designs of the problem cards from prior are still very similar. So if designs based off of AI generated content are a turn off, then the issue still stands. I will also add a general game review now, since the prior body of all this text was based on the AI cards alone and that issue has been at least partially addressed. Most important pro of the game is that it's a card collecting and selling sim that works. It does have crust, that's certain. The default Unity asset type characters are certainly more distracting than they are charming and the game can be quite a grind fest to get to the later content. That said, there's enjoyment to be had in the game itself, even if it seems mundane and awkward at times. It also does give some of the little dopamine hits by opening rare cards. Not as good as real cards of course but being able to hard buy a shop upgrade because you got a foil full art bird of some kind is certainly cool in its own right. (There's also a couple odd mechanics that feel a bit tedious but they aren't bad enough to merit and real negative marks) As such, I'm now torn on the recommendation status of this game. I'll be leaving it as a not recommended for the time being due to much of the art being very similar to the initial AI images; however, my opinion is certainly open to alteration if more changes occur or if some of the cards are changed a bit more (specifically the Beaki line due to it's incredible similarities to the original problem images). (Also, the new litspire art is very cute) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Explanation provided below) Uh, that's some AI art I wasn't expecting. Bit weird... Steam has a system where creators have to mark when they use AI generated content in their games. They... didn't do that here... Kinda gross Also sucks it only starts appearing in the 3rd card pack, which you can't access until you're likely hours beyond the return window Maybe fixing that would be good. Edit: I'm only going to post one edit here to kind of cover my bases since people don't really want to believe at face value based on the comments. The art in question belongs to a few key cards that *I have seen*. (Remember I've only made it to the third pack, there may or may not be more later in the game). The cards in question are: Beakai by Bosgarong Talontsu by Bosgarong Talonika by Bosgarong Kataryu by Bosgarong Litspire by Bosgarong Lumie by Bosgarong Mufflimax by ThingInk I want to highlight one key point here. *Not all Bosgarong's art is AI*. They're actually labeled as the artist for the Lupup line of cards, which is effectively the fire starter poster child for this game. If you compare the art though, the stylistic differences are, well, noticeable to say the least. Now for the specifics of the cards. Beakai: The head feather are different in both design and size, if observing the head feathers closely they're also positioned so that one is nearly on the back of the creature's head, the fluff on the sizes of the bird's face is asymmetrical, there is some odd and difficult to notice at a glance coloring and shading issues on the face (again near the head feathers), and the shape of the wings is inconsistent. Talontsu: The bottom left of the designs body melts into different colors, there are inconsistent highlights across the design, the white spike pattern randomly turns grey or just vanishes (hard to tell), there's an odd bit of the wing at the bottom right of the card that is unaccounted for on the left part of the design, and the overall proportions of the wings are askew. Talonika: The red band across the creature is inconsistently sized, the hair flows long on the right and short on the left, the line identifying the face of Talonika is positioned oddly and almost becomes a mouth. the wing design and proportions are incoherent upon inspection, and the lighting is off. Kataryu: The sword changes size partway up the handle, the second sword is different from the first, the lighting on the neck tuft is inconsistent, the wing (?) isn't make clear and is rather difficult to identify, its right eye (our left) is mush without definition, and the purple spikes one each are are both inconsistent in size and location. litspire: The gem placement on the creature is oddly asymmetrical. the stylistic face spikes on the design are only present on one side of the creature. The difference between the back of the creature and it's white spikes in unclear. The white spikes on its face are oddly asymmetrical. lumie: The creature has one weird spike arm on the left and ruffles on the right, the hands(?) of the creature are inconsistently designed and have random elements suck as brown dots with no stylistic consistency, the lighting (highlights) on the creature are inconsistent, the left hand(?) is cracked looking while the right is not, and there's odd ruffles around the back of the creature on only one side. Mufflimax: The sholder puffs are designed inconsistently and have different line art approaches, the eyes are very different and are incomplete, the proportions of the arms make them look dramatically different in size, the shape of the grey spikes on the side of the creature is different (one is straight and one is sloped), and the lighting is inconsistent (most noticeably on the yellow left spikes) Hope this provided some insight. The day I'm writing this is 10/3/2024 in case it's ever updated.Show moreShow less
As a neckbeard this game lets me live out my fantasy of owning the local game store, which im too slow and too fat to run myself. I only wish this game let me vape as i run the shop to complete the immersion into my delusions of a future of productivityShow moreShow less
Great concept, fun game. Refunded due to excessive use of AI-Art. Should they decide to have real art for their cards, I will re-purchase.Show moreShow less
Ok, it's a fun game but people are blowing their reviews way out of proportion based on just their first couple hours, which are the most exciting of the play through. The game follows a simple loop. Purchase stock > sell stock > level up > new stock available to sell > repeat At first things move fast, buy a couple shelves, fill em with cards and sleeves or whatever. But eventually you hit a very long, very slow grind a few more hours in. In 4 hours I still had no reason at all to have more than 5 shelves in my store, I could fit everything available at my level in those. I have zero reason to expand the store, everything fits in my tiny ass 180 square foot store. I hired someone to run the cash register and he literally takes 5 seconds for each penny he pulls out of the drawer to give change, immediately regretted my decision. There are no notable events that occur, no dialogue, nothing ever goes wrong except for smelly customers come in sometimes that you can spray with disinfectant so they don't offend your other clientele. As of right now the game is a manually operated cookie clicker where the only thing thats changing are numbers which grow exponentially and the look of items on your shelves changes every few hours I guess. What I'm trying to say is as of right now in the games development, the mechanics of the game by your 2nd or 3rd hour are all that therenis, it's the entire scope of the game. As for graphics, meh. Needs a lot of work peoples skin clips through their clothes constantly. Not many bugs. Accidentally lost a box of stock through a wall one time, and sometimes customers can't find items that are right in front of them.Show moreShow less
The game isn’t bad, except for one thing. There is another game called Supermarket Simulator that has exactly the same textures, mechanics, and even the store’s position is in the same place. Although the developers made slightly different mechanics in this game, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being deceived. The developers essentially just changed the goods to cards and slightly modified the purchase interface, and that’s all. Everything else is completely identical, including the visuals. They didn’t bother to change anything visually, just copied and pastedShow moreShow less
I think my favorite part of the game is the fact that you'll see your players emote in the corner after clearly losing a game and then will stand up and rip $150 on packs. Game is very accurate 10/10Show moreShow less
It feels like a copy of all the other "shop" simulator games using a free Unity asset package just to make the same game world and mechanic. You play a slow grind to level up your shop just to buy an overpriced license to sell a product you still need to buy to stock a shelf. This game is just a job with extra steps.Show moreShow less
Of all the simulator games I've seen. This game speaks to me the most. Why? I like card collecting and that would be enough within itself but let me tell you what else I like about it Pro - Very chill game, you can just play and enjoy - Card collecting is fun to do - Opening packs and getting a rare card is very exciting - Opening packs with viewers is a lot of fun - Managing the store is a lot of fun setting your prices and building your store to YOUR liking. - Has some nice anti player error design so you don't screw yourself over(except for giving too much change) - Chill music - Has a pretty good prologue demo that is basically the full game with item restrictions. Gives a good feel for the game and if you would want more. - Mods to turn the cards into popular card games you know. - you can jump, not something you'd normally expect or want, but it makes the movement feel free. Con (I'll note only the cons that aren't announced to be fixed or included) - NO COOP! This game absolutely needs coop, I want to have your friends be co-workers to manage the store and pull cards after hours to see who gets the best cards, or as customers who come in to buy cards, pull packs, and play games in the store. - Could use a crouch button, I want to check the lower shelves just incase. - On that note, the warehouse shelf is not intuitive with where the tag is shown. it shows the at the top but the products are below, which is how the shelves work. Please change this. - The license purchases are hella expensive, makes progress a little slow could add an option to adjust it. - Could use different store locations/layouts/storefront. The current layout is fine, but could spice it up. - Twitch integration to have chat names be on customers, it adds a lot to the feel of the game and community. - I haven't hired an employee yet, but I hope they can level up as they work in your store so their speed increases. I don't like the idea of employee tier list and having their speed be static. Could also be an option with twitch integration to have chat be employees. - *Was told about the ai art used for the cards(Which I kind of suspected) and while I get that this was made by a single dev and probably can't afford an artist, they really should get an artist to make the cards because another part of TCG is the art created by actual artist and has that humanity to it. *Was updated and heard that they're going to try and find an actual artist to do the art, can't wait to see it. Con(but they mentioned adding or fixing) - Playable TCG - Random events like midnight card releases, special tournament events, weather, people trying to steal your boxes outside if you don't bring them in. - Card auctions That's my thoughts for now, I really enjoy the game, it's lots of fun, I hope to see many updates to the game.Show moreShow less
So I am having to regrettably give this game a negative recommendation, as it is a different game from what it's title would lean many to think it was. I held back on giving this review as I was hoping some things would change (as many things tend to improve through an EA), but it's direction has completely leaned away from what I was looking for TCG Card Shop Simulator is a "pack opening" simulator, NOT a simulation of running a card shop. It's systems are hyper exploitable once you understand what those are, and there is a portion of players on its discord that shout down anyone thinking it should be less so. If you tried to run your shop with any sort of legitimate business acumen (things like diversifying your products and offerings, or trying to offer deep selections of similar products) the game actively punishes you for it. Much of this comes from the fact that it's designer is bringing a game concept over from the mobile side of gaming. This game's predecessor was just a "big number go up" style shop simulator, where you are always just better off offering large amounts of the most expensive products, and ignore everything else. As one could imagine, if this was always the best thing to do, no one would sell anything other then Lamborghinis anywhere in the world. So if you just want to collect fake cards and have a game built to where you can easily exploit it and open up thousands of packs of cards, then this game will suit your needs. If you were hoping for a game that felt like you were running a card shop from the 90s or 00s, this is not going to sufficiently simulate that. The sad part is, it could have easily moved closer to a center point, with the pack rippers loosing very little, but having to actually manage a card shop was not something some of the early adopters wanted to do.Show moreShow less
