Listen to me: Don't do it. I know what you are thinking, "I've seen the reviews, and the videos, I don't care, the game is on sale, I will adjust my expectations, I just want a Forza-like game in a city environment with lots of highways". It's not worth it. Leaving aside the fact that it's always online, that you can't play solo if you want, that you can't pause races nor rewind (and that restarting takes about a full minute of random menus to go through), and that both the AI and in-game economy are setup to make this whole thing as un-fun as humanly possible, it's just not good man. It doesn't have the sauce. You deserve better. On my system I can play both Forza Horizon 5 and The Crew Motorfest at max settings, 4K resolution (without upscaling) and both games remain stuck at 60 FPS no matter what. Meanwhile, TDU Solar Crown looks like a mobile game, runs mostly at 45 FPS regardless of settings and looks outright broken. It's the end of the year 2024, and this game can't pull off realtime reflections. Instead you get these weird, lowres screenshots of the environment that get slapped to your car every 100 meters or so and absolutely never match the environment. You'll see the ground from a few streets back proyected on your car's roof, you'll see the sky reflected when in tunnels, it's incredibly broken. The driving is fine, more arcadey than Forza but there's a solid based there. Vehicles feel dangerous at fast speeds, and drifting is smooth and highly controlable. Those are all of the positives. The map is also not bad, I like that there are hidden roads to explore, definitely some good attention to detail, you can't deny they tried. I went by a laundry and the interior is modeled in 3D and has animated laundry machines! They are lowres and lowpoly, but they are cute, they really tried! But everything else is so broken that you can't ever really appreciate the good. Once in a while all of the stars align and the game actually looks quite good for a second, and then it's back to broken lighting again. Sound is another wierd one. The cars sound great, and that's it. The rest of the city is completely dead. There's no environment audio, no pedestrians, nothing. It's a zombie town. I re-installed the Crew (Motorfest) and turns out they've added a new island for free! Playing that game after TDU felt like going in a trip to the future, the difference is brutal. I'm not actually promoting The Crew, or Forza, but if you are here reading this review chances are you own either of those games or they are in your wishlist. Get those instead. You deserve better. There's nothing in this game that works properly. This simply ain't it champ. Move along.Show moreShow less
4-14-26 They finally optimized the game for 3060ti. runs great 9/26/25 - there have been some major changes. First of all - i really dont think KT/NACON whoever gets enough credit for the very interesting map they created. I dont understand all the hate. Yeah, the game was a mess at launch but , so was cyberpunk lol. Majority of games release broken nowadays. This map is beautiful , and its pretty detailed. The amount of little cracks and crevices you can find while driving, little tiny nooks behind buildings that no one would ever find. All those places are detailed as hell. 2 things jve noticed that are annoying. 1. Almost all of the street lights dont come on when they should. Around 6-7 pm none of them are on which is weird , its very dark in soms areas. And you're the only one driving around with lights on. 2. Why does every single pedestrian vehicle have a solar crown license plate? Is solar crown the name of their city? Is every single driver on the road (besides cabs) participants? How about , you make 1 out every 50 pedestrian cars have a solar crown license plate. And give the rest of the traffic Hong Kong license plates? And a third issue, get rid of the slow moving camera when rotating the view around your vehicle. It only happens when youre traveling under 24 miles an hour. Very random speed, just get rid of it all together. Just go look at forzas right stick rotation...Just do that To Developers - Don't give up on the game - i played cyberpunk when it was completely unplayable- now it's one of the greatest games ever - i see the potential. Do not give up on this game - a years worth of updates might have is talking about this game in a different light. I got my game looking and running quite nice which is a shock because I know what the demo looked like. The game is flawed but to be honest, the racing is pretty damn fun. Go test drive the Countach and tell me you dont see the potentialShow moreShow less
This game shows what is wrong with the gaming industry today. I would not recommend this game to anyone. UPDATE: They also added Microtransactions and a Cash Shop ( This is unacceptable for this broken game ) Negatives: 1. Always Online , No Offline Mode 2. Optimization is Garbage . It runs like crap on a 3080 ti , Intel i7, and 32 gigs of ram. 3.Stupid Battle Pass System Positives: 1. Driving is fun 2. Hong Kong Map is cool Update: 1) I decided to play the game is after many updates in 2026 2) This game disrespects the players time and tries to screw you over by limiting exp gain. The grind is very painful from early game to mid game. 3) The games races are a joke and very easy. However, some of the end game races are unbalanced and have huge difficulty spikes. The Solar Crown Jewel Jade and Solar Crown Amber Target times are very hard to beat. 4) New cars are locked behind a the solar crown pass. The free cars they gave for each season are very expensive. I still would not recommend this game to anyone even after all the playtime.Show moreShow less
A good foundation with potential, missing a lot of what made TDU unique though. Where are the driving schools, housing etc. we also need more people per server as it feels quiet.Show moreShow less
A Cheap Cash-Grab Attempt on a Legendary Franchise We all know that the Test Drive series holds a special place in the history of racing games. At least, it did until this game. Most of us still remember the luxurious atmosphere and the pure joy of freely driving around the island in the old TDU games. However, after a long silence, the developers came back with this. Unfortunately, Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown feels like a project designed to make quick money using a famous brand name, rather than showing respect to its great legacy. A Horrible Story and Terrible Characters From the moment you start playing, one question comes to mind: What were they thinking when they wrote this story? The scenario and its presentation feel so forced that it is almost impossible to get into the game. The visual side is also a total disappointment. While expecting great graphics and smooth performance by modern standards, we are faced with character models so ugly and lifeless that I find myself hitting the "skip" button during every single cutscene. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3740980966 The character creator is lazy and completely mediocre. I just made a random character and skipped it quickly because the game gives you no reason to customize anything. On top of that, the clothing textures and character models are so low-pixel that the game feels like a mobile title from years ago. Tbh, many modern mobile racing games have much better and more detailed character models than this. Older Games Were Much More Entertaining When it comes to the racing mechanics and logic, things get even worse. During a race, I flew right over a checkpoint, but the game did not count it and teleported me backward. Excuse me, but even in NFS Underground, which came out back in 2000, flying over the finish line worked perfectly. Making this work is not rocket science. Did the people who made this game never play a racing game before? This is proof that companies that only care about money cannot be player-friendly. Sadly, we know that many big companies are run by people who do not understand video games. Having such stupid logic errors in a highly anticipated game is frustrating. Generally, driving feels very weird too. The car's handling is extremely unstable. When you brake at high speeds, the car stops almost instantly, which feels very unnatural. It is too twitchy at high speeds, and you cannot control it precisely. The legendary old TDU had a handling model that was 100 times better and more realistic. No Optimization: Feels Like a Cheap AI Generation The technical side of the game is an absolute disaster. Optimization simply does NOT exist. I can play the latest, most demanding games at 4K resolution on high settings with 60fps, yet I cannot even get a stable 30 FPS in Solar Crown with the same settings. I turned on FSR to save the performance, but even FSR does not work properly in this game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3741025679 In this state, the game feels like it was rushed out with the help of a basic AI. It feels cheap, poorly made, and nonsensical. This is definitely not a real Test Drive experience. If this game had been released under a completely different name, people might have been more forgiving, looking at it as a studio's first attempt. But you cannot take a beloved franchise, ruin it like this, and expect positive feedback. HUD/MENU Chaos and Some Good Details The HUD design also looks cheap. They tried to copy other popular racing games but failed completely. While driving, the permanent AI markers and the giant photo mode button on the screen are incredibly annoying. They could have easily integrated these shortcuts into the map or menus, or kept it clean and minimalist like the Forza games. To be fair, the car sounds are actually good. They also thought about some nice mechanics. Working as a taxi driver and delivering cars to high-level executives is fun. However, all these good ideas get completely buried under terrible graphics, logic flaws, and massive technical issues. Unfortunately, the foundation of the game is broken, so these small features do not matter much. Pros: Car sound designs are successful and satisfying. They tried some new mechanics, and the ideas behind them are good. Cons: Terrible story presentation and disastrous character designs. Zero optimization. Full of physics and logic glitches. Important, constant screen elements like the HUD are graphically poor and ugly. Final This game is a cash-grab that damages the reputation of a legendary franchise. Under normal circumstances, it should not have sold this much. I will keep it in my library only out of respect and love for the old Test Drive games, but playing this for a long time is out of the question. I would rather spend my time playing a racing game from 10–15 years ago and have much more fun. Yonderly Score | F (35) Follow My Curator Page For More Reviews 🍉Show moreShow less
18+ hours into the game and I am very much enjoying my time with it. Physics feel good, even with traction control turned off. Game looks very good, even on low settings (game runs at around 45-55 with DLSS off on an RTX 2060 6GB). I have primarily been driving around the map discovering all the roads and collectibles and been enjoying that very much, there's a lot to explore on the map. The events play good too, difficulty will depend on how much you turn the assists off. There was a server issue at launch but that got resolved within an hour and the servers have been running flawlessly ever since. Didn't see any random disconnects, crashing, issues with syncing, and no major bugs. Between pressing start and getting to the continue menu is 5 seconds. Also see a lot of players in freeroam, in dealers, and other locations. Feels exactly like TDU2 did back when I played it. Even with the lack of properties/houses and the casino, there's still plenty to make up for it. The Solar Crown Hotel is a good substitute for the houses for the time being. Personally I'd rather have a game that plays nice and bring back houses and casino as a quality update in the future. So far TDU: SC succeeds in the aspect TDU2 failed at, a game that feels and plays good. Currently at level 25 in game, the higher tier upgrades are incredible on some cars. You can build an Audi R8 with 1000+ horsepower (like tuners can do in the real world). Progression is very reasonable and rewarding, just driving around the map getting the collectibles and doing the speed cameras got me to 3 million credits and I still have quite a few more things to do in the other districts Overall I recommend this game, I feel the developers have done a great job so far with what they've presented to us and they got so many more things coming our way in the next year. Rating I would give the game is 7.5-8/10,Show moreShow less
If you can’t figure out how to run a server for 2000 players, don’t make an always online game. Seriously. What have you guys been doing? 7 days early access for this? How was this not considered before launch? What a joke… 7 days later, the server is still not working. 5 hours in game, I only got to play for less than an hour. At this rate, please stop trying to fix the server and put your priority on bringing out offline mode.Show moreShow less
So lets start with the simple answers!!! -If i were to rate this game it would be 6/10. -Do I recommend a purchase. NO. However if on sale for 25% off id say worth it! -Do I think the game is fun. Overall Yes but there's really no simple answer here. -What kind of player plays this game. A car Collector or Car Enthusiast that doesn't mind some inconsistencies with IRL So on to the more complex review that's really not so complex! To start with I want to be straight forward with everyone. I don't write reviews very often but this game actually irritated me quite a bit so as i write this review keep in mind that's my current perspective. I would also like to clarify that yes i only have 6 hours on the game right now but i also played the open beta for PC for approximately 20 hours. Now on to the meat and potatoes of the review! Lets start with the Pros. - The atmosphere is stunning Driving around and exploring the world is enjoyable and the game has great roads and great scenery to play around in. I haven't done much off-roading in the game but so far the off-roading i have done has been extremely enjoyable. - Performance is Good Now i know alot of people are complaining about the performance of the game. I honestly have no clue what they are on about! I play at max settings at 1440p res. I get on average 68FPS however my lows are 52FPS and highs are around 98FPS. I do turn on DLAA and Frame Generation. My specs are slightly above average to be fair. I am playing on a 4070 paired with an AMD5600x and have the game installed on a screaming fast NVME Hard Drive supported by 32GB of RAM. I also havn't experienced any network issues what so ever after release. Now to be fair the pre release via the gold edition of which i purchased did have major network issues in fact unplayable issues but so did the beta. However i repeat the release of the game FIXED ALL ISSUES!!! -The audio quality is amazing Every car has extremely good exhaust notes and engine sounds. The turbos and blow off valves are stunning to hear. The soundtrack of the radio is exhilerating. All of these amazing sounds are in high quality bit rate so the immersion from sounds is hypnotic. NOW FOR THE BAD!!! DUN DUN DUN - What the Actual (insert F word here) is the driving model I play the game with a g920 steering wheel and have adjusted all the values of the wheel tirelessly to get things to feel good but to no avail. I also play with no assists on (I.E. No traction control and no ABS and no Racing Line) Free Roam is driving is great without all the stakes and being able to freely choose your route. BUT the races are just idiotic, there is so much under steer through corners that its impossible to race. Driving a modified Mustang GT feels like im driving a 1998 Suburban. If i go any faster than 30 MPH around a 90 Degree corner i either under steer into a wall or have to force my car into a drift. Before anyone says skill issue i have tried different racing lines from starting inside to starting outside to dead center driving next to either side of the median and always the same thing either under steer or drift required. Another thing i would like to point out to those of you saying skill issue... I own a 2014 Mustang GT IRL and have modified it for track and also have a racing license and i will tell you right now the driving model is so far from how the car feels IRL that i would rather it be more arcade than simulator because at least then i can turn a corner! (Sarcasm Incoming) To give a benefit to the driving model however the jaguar with all wheel drive takes corners like its rear wheel drive so if i could just make the mustang all wheel drive problem would be solved HAHA. -The AI I don't know what the DEVs were thinking when they designed this AI. The number one thing i can count on in a race is when it starts all the AI have a homing laser guiding them to ram me. After the first corner they just become another road obstacle that i have to avoid because they offer no challenge and have no awareness as to where i am, this leads to the AI just letting me pass like there on a Sunday cruise instead of trying to prevent a pass like someone who is actually racing would do. Then there's those times where the AI somehow has NOS i could be going 170 MPH and all of a sudden an AI will just blow by me like im sitting still just to brake into a corner going from what i assume was 210 MPH to 25 MPH in one second. - The Substance So the game is simple you buy a car you customize said car and you drive said car then you get another car and do the same over and over collecting the cars you want and making them into what you want. You do this by racing and exploring the world to make money and gain EXP. Now i have never played the previous games but i decided to look into them and WOOOOW this game is missing a lot of great things from the previous games. In fact this game seems to be a skeleton in comparison to the previous games when it comes to all the things you can do. DEVs want this to be a social racing game but there's no where interesting to be social at because the social locations are technically just a back drop with no interactions with the world. So this leaves us with racing each other, which would be cool and all except theres one problem no one is ever near the races i have been in, in fact the only time i have raced other people was during the beginning of the story when there wasn't a large selection of races and the game was more linear! - The Customization Now in the previous paragraph i talked about customization so now ill dive deeper into that! The visual customization of your character and cars is very in depth and i really appreciate how it feels organic and realistic. For example im not throwing massive GT3 wings on my car that only has 500 hp! Yes people do this but its a very select few and every car enthusiast knows the type of person with a GT3 wing drives a Honda Civic with rust and a rattle can for an exhaust!!! As for the Performance side of Customization which in my opinion is more important which is the cause for this being a NEGATIVE. Why in the (insert F word here) can i not change my tire compound right out the gate, changing tire compound is locked until you reach level 15 reputation. Now some people will say it doesn't take long to get to level 15 and they are right however when i was driving the mustang without semi slicks and i had a turbo on it all i can do in first gear is spin my tires. This makes races before level 15 in the mustang unbearable in fact you might as well just use ice for the back tires and a stone for the front tires because that's what its gonna feel like until you can upgrade your tires!!! As for the rest of the performance parts they do make a noticeable difference to all vehicles when you install them and feel quite nice!!! Exhaust changes audio of exhaust turbos are actually turbos with lag and anti lag!!! The way you customize your vehicle definitely fits your personality so when you do race or free roam you can feel your own personal touch in how the car drives! So in conclusion I do plan on playing the game more i personally enjoy it! However i don't recommend a purchase for everyone as this game is only going to be tolerable for car lovers and car collectors. Racing enthusiasts go play a different game like Assetto Corsa or Gran Turismo because this games driving model isn't for you. Those gamers out there that love Need For Speed i wish you the best of luck because that wall is gonna be your friend and the customization options are only going to disappoint you!!!!Show moreShow less
Don't let the 100+ hours of game time fool you. This game is THE representation of the current world of AAA gaming. More specifically, everything that's wrong with it. From the premium price for an Alpha playtest, every single roadmap decision that has been made, bugs created by patches to solve other bugs, the arrogant stance and total ignorance of KT/Nacon, and the hell on top of the development hell to the borked implementation of like any carried over feature from the previous installments. (To me, the only two TDU games to rightfully exist.) There is no single aspect of this game that has not been either poorly executed or isn't plain garbage by design, or lack of design. Speaking about design, the only thing that might have not been broken at least once are the stickers. And even if I somehow missed it actually happening, I wouldn't be surprised one single bit. This game has it all: lack of frames per second, lack of online people (not bad for a Massive Open Online Racing game!), lack of fun, lack of inspiration, lack of many essential and day-zero features, lack of plan or direction, lack of honest developers and support, lack of vision, lack of quality control, lack of any soul or vibe (save for Eivissa City, which at least has some colour attached to it), lack of decent AI, lack of working netcode, and of course a lack of budget. And a total lack of stickers. What were they THIIIINKIIING?? But hey, the rain looks good on 'atomic bomb' graphics settings. Especially the puddles that pop in randomly. I don't think we can blame climate change for that. The fact Nacon and KT found it to be a splendid idea to introduce moneymilkers to a game that's in desperate need of CPR (and oxygen, and a blood transfusion, and hydrogen peroxide) is baffling. Total ignorance. "Dear #18465, I'm sorry I mean dear customer, please turn around and show those buttocks, we know what to do with them!" My computer is powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, coupled with 32 nice gigs of delicious 7500 MHz binary working juice. Then there's the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU that probably can't not run anything made until at least 2031. A literal top of the bill device. This beast is considered one of the world's most powerful consumer portable devices in production as of the beginning of 2026. Settings on Ultra, save for reflections quality which is set at low (causing a dramatic 33% increase in FPS, although that's quite relative..), using DLAA, using Frame Gen. Frame rate: 35 FPS. If lucky. At least I reach 70 in a f****** quasi-static loading screen. All most demanding games are running at least 100 FPS, with the most ultra settings imaginable, as is to be expected from the third-most powerful mobile consumer GPU in the world, and most of these games have a certain degree of complexity that makes this featureless generic racer refresh look like laughing stock. And a big advantage of them is that the games are serviced by a working server park. That alone is beyond disgusting. This game should have been withdrawn soon after release, and never been allowed to use the Test Drive Unlimited trademark. The only thing that's unlimited is the amount of patchwork that's required to finally abandon everything and leave it to modders, or any dev team that knows what they are actually doing. That is, if an offline mode will ever come. I see them back out because of either laziness, lack of competence, or just plain lies. Maybe even out of rage, because their financial statements- I MEAN CUSTOMERS, because we are so done and fed up with the ever growing bunch of lies, fake promises, drive by greed, and hypocrisy, all of which are steadily rotting the world of AAA gaming to its very core and (should) let our wallets speak instead. Pick it up for sale at a price of 10 euros or such, as you might squeeze out about 15 worth of fun at most before everything becomes either a chore or a chain of ridiculousness. Unless if you're a hardcore (and probably also insufferable) TDU nostalgia cart, then go ahead as preferred and get disappointed big time when you realize TDU2 (a FIFTEEN year old game) was more feature-complete from day 1 (the actual day 1 when stuff started to work) and scored better, both critically and sentimentally, and that's including a somewhat hard to love handling model, and a rough start as well, but at least all fundamentals were there from the beginning. TDU:SC started as a tech demo and stopped evolving when it needed to ramp up instead. Resulting in the fact TDU:SC is now a tech demo, but slightly more polished and broken at the same time. EDIT forgot to say that, in a very drunken occasion, I accidentally bought some diamonds. Having an overall negative sentiment towards microtr*vesty, but no life and some freely spendable money, I am so terribly ashamed of it. I'm sorry, fellow gamers, for being a total failure to you all. As a result, I'm never drinking again.Show moreShow less
