I can't distinguish the enemies from the civilians in a firefight. I've killed hundreds of innocent people. Nobody cares.Show moreShow less
Beautiful, engaging and broken experience. It seems nowadays a standard to release broken productions. This doesn't mean I will not point out instances of when that happens, especially after I pay for said broken experience. This game isn't marked as early access and I will treat it as such. PSA. you will get stuttering if you don't disable windows protections (search Exploit Protections -> add The Ascent from steam files -> disable control flow protections) Bugs and inconveniences include: - not being able to open ICE 1 doors and chests even though having equipped ICE 1 cyberdeck - no enemies spawning necessary to finish a mission - quest markers completely glitching out (not showing, showing incorrect places) - taxi UI getting glitched, to the point of possibly softlocking the game (be dead and spam taxi button until you load and spawn) - map UI glitching (it got instanced twice and map markers were visible in the game screen and whole 3d map was overlaid over rest of the equipment, essentially requiring a restart) - coop buddy not being able to read and talk to interactables (npcs, world notes; only shows [END] button in the top left of the screen) - coop buddy's weapon sounds are muffled (they seem to be missing the primary sound of the weapon and only have the echo of it) - little to no enemies spawning after backtracking - during second session we just ran around doing mundane early level quests, which we didn't do at first, because we went for levels which had recommended level of 14 while we had 13, it required us to go through areas of >18 lvl enemies - loading screens often fade to black and result in an awkward 10 seconds of wondering whether the game softlocked - camera will often be facing incorrect angle (your character can be at the edge of the screen and invisible enemy, not visible on the map either, will one hit kill you without you having time to react) - not being able to go into inventory / shop at the same time with coop buddy can't imagine how much of a burden that must be with 4 people - in game inventory / map / etc. ui has poor bindings, eg. stick moves categories left / right and if you want to go down an item or left as in back in inventory tree, you will instead change categories (which afair already have their own bindings at rb lb) - weapon dps stats seem somewhat useless as weapon with lower dps can chew through enemies much more effectively than - dps seem like an useless metric (probably because of damage type system) - elevators are broken, you enter one which is on floor 0, activate it and it instantly snaps to floor 1 and goes back down to floor 0. I was looking forward to this game but it seems recent cyberpunk games have quite a bit more in common than just the setting. Wait for bugfixes and / or sale.Show moreShow less
Really enjoying this so far. I keep seeing reviews online describing this as if its "doing what cyberpunk 2077 didn't do" Don't be bullshitted. This isn't some massive in depth RPG and the only comparison to cyberpunk 2077 is a loose similarity in aesthetic and the ability to equip augmentations. What it is though is a standard Third person, Isometric shooter much like the Sony exclusive Dead Nation (Only one that comes to mind right now but there's alot of similar games, the weighty feel of the player character really reminds me of that one). I'm enjoying the world, the small details and - as a fan of isometric shooters - the combat, which again, if you're a fan of iso-shooters you'll feel at home here. You collect new weapons, upgrade em, upgrade your clothes - or don't bother and just pick what looks cool, ♥♥♥♥ it man - and mow down countless enemies to a sweet retro-cyberpunk soundtrack. This game is sick. My only complaint's are that: - The map is ♥♥♥♥♥♥' Garbage, not really sure where I'm going - EVER. There is an option to display a route to your next objective but good luck navigating without the use of that feature, or without a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nepalese sherpa. Adding a key to the map would be a much appreciated edition to the game. - I wish I could zoom the camera in a lil bit, just makes things easier to describe. Okay so I guess that's actually all I have to complain about, I got this at a hella discount for 15Moneys and I'm sure I'll have more complaints with time but for 15Moneys, this game is pretty epic. Also I'm drunk so ignore me, maybe this game is ♥♥♥♥. 400/40: good gameShow moreShow less
I lost all my quest progress after joining a friends game, I am back to the beginning as If I had just picked up the second story mission and all the side quest. I was already in the upper levels after visiting The Black Tower area a good 10 hours of game play lost. I was really enjoying the game. STAY AWAY FROM CO OP!!!! Update: Got home today a I figured I'd redo all the quests, I thought to my self, what the hell I had fun doing the quests and I can fast travel now and I've explored most of the map, Might as well knock them out quick and continue my journey. WELL, to my utter dismay, I can not complete missions I have already completed, they will not show me the quest marker on the map. Since I remembered where the next quest location was I ran over (I could no longer fast travel because my game thinks I haven't gotten to that point) and the quest mobs where not spawning. So now I'm stuck with not being able to continue my quest because its gone and I can not do the ones I have because they are bugged being I technically completed them already.... I will probably have to scrap this run and start a new one, unfortunately for the moment I have lost all interest in doing so, at least until I cool off, I hate losing progression it really kills the experience for me.Show moreShow less
Launched the game, was really hoping for some 80s bladerunner style synths and music... was not disappointed. Graphics are amazing, Gameplay is smooth as hell and more complex then other games of this style. Runs super smooth and the gun play is fantastic. In a world where games come out half finished and unpolished, its nice to play something that actually works as it should and was released when it was supposed to. I really recommend trying this game if you want to have an atmospheric feel like games used to back in the 90s and early 2000s .Show moreShow less
Incredibly awesome environment design like I've never seen. Fun gunplay. However it is completely unacceptable that there are several main quests that can permanently break with no solution. These were reported numerous times by player reviewers on places like Steam over the past year, and the same bugs remain with no fix in sight. Unacceptable. The developers should drop everything, respond to these critical bug reports and get..these...fixed...immediately. Defective product, sadly. Edit: A DLC was just released with along with a large patch. The same bugs that stopped my progress and perma-bugged the interface of my coop partner still exist. Unacceptable.Show moreShow less
I do not currently recommend this game. The game is alpha-beta level quality and honestly feels like an Epic Games exclusive. Gave them a pass a few hours in but realized that based on many of the design decisions they missed the point. The RPG system is extremely weak, the reward system seems broken. A little more time in the oven with more Q/A and player feedback and this game could have been a smash hit. Instead it's a visually stunning game that will soon be forgotten. Simply put... this is an Early Access title and should have been marketed as such. The comparisons between this and Diablo are wrong. It has an entirely different multiplayer setup. The loot isn't randomized and it's classless. The classless aspect is fine, but the loot being the same for each player has a couple negative consequences. If the idea is to differentiate yourself from your companions, you'll find that unfortunately despite different "builds" there will be moments where the optimized and best equipment is a geared towards certain playstyles. You'll have to accept lower grade equipment if you want to continue differentiating yourself from your companions. You can waste all your upgrades on an earlier weapon you like but you'll find another weapon type with twice the damage and feel like you wasted it. The impression I get is this is a single player game with multiplayer added in. One way to correct this is more equipment, more often that covers more play styles, so you have more choices earlier on. Because of the lack of random loot, it feels like you're waiting for your time to shine. You could play diablo for months. I played this for a day and am almost done with it. I wouldn't feel the need to replay it. There's little incentive to return or hunt mobs to find gear, there's no real loot generation and everything you find is sold as a duplicate. Even with a NG+ mode and higher tier difficulty, without the random loot generation there's no end game. It's a singleplayer one shot campaign masquerading as some deep 4 player experience. The world is beautiful, but many times your exploration isn't reinforced. It would have been beneficial for the dev team to review the map, and throw down a few chests in corners and ice containers in locations where you might explore. It's disappointing to wander a location and find nothing but dead ends. Movement is extremely slow. The way that side quests operate currently is confusing and should be fixed, simply because the level requirement listed isn't accurate. You might have a really low level side quest, but have to battle through high level dangerous mobs to get to certain points. Worse still, once you get there you find that the area hasn't been generated yet because you haven't gone far enough in the main quest to unlock it. This has happened multiple times. I would say the way to correct this is to have side quest NPCs unlock and show visibly on the map when you've completed far enough in the main quest to actually complete the quest. The uCred economy feels flawed. There are times where you feel rich but theres nothing to buy. There isn't an economy sink to pour it into. A solution here would be to offer conversion from the uCred economy to the component economy at a high ucred to component ratio. The hacker playstyle doesn't seem fleshed out enough in the early game, you'll run into some really cool NPCs that throw down a lot of black ice and seem to have really unique playstyles, but a couple hours in and I'm not quite able to emulate that... So the negative is that you can't really build that class until you get the tools to do it. Edit: at the end game now - Doesn't exist. Instead of the hacking skill being something you can build into, it's just something everyone has and does the same. Theres no technomancer/techrunner here. There are bugs, a lot when dealing with co-op. A LOT of bugs. At one point I wasn't able to invite my teammate after a crash, we'd be stuck at the loading screen. I'd have to make it singleplayer, open it and then invite and it seemed to work. He lost all his gear when we almost beat the game so we stopped playing. His floors wouldn't render and he'd have to rejoin. I can't help but "wish" that certain design decisions weren't made, and that so many consolations were made to release. I will support the devs and this game, but I'm not sure that they can see the forest through the trees here and if this will ever reach the promised lands. It's bittersweet, because in my opinion this game is such a huge undertaking.... it feels like a game that was made by a big budget studio with hundreds of developers. Bugs: Too many to name in co-op. Floor not appearing. Random disconnects. Freezes. Crashing. Double mobs and boss spawning. Many side quests broken. Random graphical issues. Combat is good, but the items and loot is not satisfying in 4 player co-op. Should have released it single-player because there isn't enough content. Lots of poor design decisions, real lack of QoL. Navigation and walking/dashing everywhere + taxi gets boring(walking is probably 50% of gametime, which could be fun but exploration is lackluster even though environment is good). Lore rips off a lot of cyberpunk lore, doesn't really differentiate itself. Indents was a good idea though. If the time had been taken to reverse course on a couple design decisions this game could have sold millions of copies. In 2021, I'm starting to appreciate when video games just work... Shouldn't be a coin toss. Should have really worked with more players and not content creators to help hone in the vision here. Lots of talent and hard work was wasted on a one shot.Show moreShow less
As an old guy who's played a lot of video games, The Ascent did a good job of scratching that itch of living in a cyberpunk/blade runner world. The developers did a really good job with the world and the setting. It's a game that doesn't hold your hand and leaves you to it to try and figure things out for yourself, in many games I enjoy this, but in this ascent, I was a bit lost in the beginning with where to put my points. I eventually went and looked up a popular build and was thankfully able to respect my character. The problem I had with The Ascent was that it just started to feel like a chore. The quests are all the same; go here, talk to this person, kill your way to the objective, interact or kill someone, then return. For me, the story wasn't interesting enough to keep me wanting to play, the combat got pretty repetitive for me and it started to just feel like a chore.Show moreShow less
I think this game made me realize two things: I really enjoy Cyberpunk. Steam users are the biggest cry babies and steam reviews are 100% inaccurate as to whether a game is fun or not.Show moreShow less
I played for 10 hours and loved it. Saved my game, exited, went about my life. When I came back, I found out my saved game was completely gone. Then I did some searching online and found out this is a known bug for MONTHS. This is completely unacceptable for a single player game to not have a proper save function and be released, let alone be this way for many months without being fixed Developers are not even paying attention apparently. I won't be buying any of their other gamesShow moreShow less
