Recommended, but before you buy exercise caution; Few raids in and the game looks good, combat feels chaotic and the extraction shooter mechanics feel like they were implemented well. The game's art style is what carries all of this however and it does an exemplary job of it, sadly there is one major downside thus far: Your base has a water level, this water level is constantly decreasing, even when the game is closed and the only way to get more water is to find it in raid or complete quests, if this level hits 0, your entire stash is GONE , unceremoniously deleted from your stash never to be seen again. This is extremely punishing for casual players and it's a bit weird as to why this mechanic was even considered to be a thing in the first place. Overall, this is a well crafted game world and lore paired with decent extraction shooter mechanics however, this water mechanic NEEDS to change if it wants any sort of chance to stay relevant long term.Show moreShow less
Until they change the ridiculous water system in this game, I would stay far away from it. Whether you have five days of water, or 50 days of water, your progress is being erased as soon as you log out of the game. It's a predatory little scheme the devs have come up with, to keep players logging in. Couldn't play the game for a number of days because I actually have a life, so I lost about a million in credits, all inventory, and upgrades to innards. Basically I have to restart the game...but I got around that by uninstalling it, and playing one of the many other better games that respect the time and effort you put into them.Show moreShow less
the best damn game i've ever played. its something that us non-pvp players want, pve extraction shooters. no sweaty people, brutal gameplay, methodical gunplay, risk calculations, and most importantly, fun with friends. thank you, Fun Dog. you keep doing what you do. EDIT: thanks for the awards, humans. great to see how people shares the same love for the game! https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45247082-Ursidae-Concerns-Limited/Show moreShow less
Okay so, first impressions were okay. AI was a bit janky, controls and animations are a bit jank, performance is sort of not good. None of that actually matters too much right now, its an early access title, these things will be worked on with our feedback and I'm sure alot is placeholder so that we can actually play the game. That being said, I want to bring attention to the water mechanic. Water is a resource that is tied both to progression and your loss condition. Getting more water unlocks more traders and features in your hideout, something that's a cool idea. Running out of it entirely causes everybody to die, and essentially does a game reset minus your character EXP. Your items get deleted, that sort of thing. The issue is that this water mechanic is tied to real life time, not just when you're playing, when you aren't playing either. A barrel of water equals 24 hours of time you buy yourself before your material progress is deleted entirely. The devs claim so that this has you thinking about FW and are anxious about it even when not playing, and is explained to be "fun". A bold choice, however that will ultimately turn this game into a chore no matter what gets fixed, no matter what gets better, no matter what gets worse. Making it so that it's mandatory for you to return to this game and find a few barrels of water so that you can keep your progress between breaks on it, or hell even keeping your progress over the work week will make anybody eventually dislike it. Instead of being able to play whatever you want, this game demands that you put down whatever it is you're doing and dedicate some time to it if you want to keep what you've worked for. They got feedback, negative mostly, about the system before this launch, and their response was to make water more common, not really fixing anything, just making it a non issue while you're actively playing. Hopefully these devs take the feedback that a commitment of this nature is sort of a deal breaker for a huge number of people. This doesn't make the game "hard" or any more "hardcore". There are hundreds of hardcore experiences that don't punish you for taking breaks. This makes me afraid to get into it because what if my other commitments wipe away everything I've worked for here. If you're a fan of the kinda game that demands your attention like this then sure go ahead, I'm sure in time that this will be a great product. The art direction is pretty good and it's a cool setting. Buuuuut, there's a pretty big elephant in the room right now. Hopefully they shoo it out or alter it somehow. Quick edit. Just wanted to mention a bug in the game that scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me and I thought was funny. A functional tank was somehow flung towards me, almost crushing me in the process. I had fun with my time so far. That one mechanic is what's scaring me off. ONE MORE EDIT FOR NOW. Instead of just saying "This is is ♥♥♥♥, fix it.", I should ALSO say a potential way to fix it. I imagine the devs would like to keep some semblance of punishment for not playing, which while I personally don't like it at all, compromises would in fact alienate less people. Maybe instead of losing everything in your stash, you just lose everybody. No traders, no help, no lifeline. Just you, and whatever goodies you have left to try and make a comeback. This is still punishing, but in a way to where it might scare off less people. It would still be a chore to avoid it, but maybe one that more people could live with. Another edit, 9/25/2024 I did NOT imagine this many people would see this, if you're reading this now and were interested in the game before please, please check in every so often to see where the game is at. As an early access literally everything talked about in this review could be changed, so please for the love of god keep checking in. This game looks like it has some really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good potential, it's just this one mechanic.Show moreShow less
We bullied the devs into releasing the game early and are upset that it's unfinished. I love the concept, but still needs a ton of polish and tweaks to be perfect. Give em time to cook. Edit 4/7/2025: I've recently come back to the game to see how things are going. Slow and steady improvements are happening Gunplay does feel a lot less swimmy than it did previously, though my opinion is that it still has plenty of room to improve to compete with similar styles of games (recoil feels way too high, but overall gunplay feels more tactile. Remove tracer rounds from every enemy for the love of god) I've noticed significant performance improvements. Previously was unable to run the game at a playable frame rate on max settings in native resolution (3840x1600 on 4070 super), now am able to run at around 60fps without DLSS and frame gen. Spawn locations are still borked for many infantry units, but I see the direction they're going (Tanks/choppers drive/fly onto the map, cyborg zombies are dropped from bomber planes, which is absolutely terrifying) Previously I experienced crashing at inopportune times, resulting in loss of gear. I have not had a single crash since coming back to the game. Matchmaking is vastly improved. I have had 0 issues using quickplay or joining a random lobby. Previously would have to click on lobbies constantly for about 30 minutes to find a random game, now works on the first try. The new maps are absolutely stunning so far, and feel more thought out than the previous maps. Frozen Swamp is especially cool with lots of high places to snipe from Revised water system is awesome. I was not one of the tryhard gamers that enjoy real life timers in my virtual games, especially in a game that was working through glaring issues upon release. The new system keeps some of the cool basebuilding aspects of the previous water system, while balancing it in a way for people to enjoy who don't nolife the game. TL;DR: In the roughly 7 months since public access, the game has improved upon MANY of the issues it had upon release. Is it a perfect and complete game in early access? No, and if that's what you're expecting, I highly suggest, again, to let Fun Dog cook. It's taken games like Tarkov almost 10 years to get where they're at now and half of you are wailing that the game isn't perfect on EA release. If you want to support the development of Fund Dog's passion game, do it. If not, then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Show moreShow less
So first off let me say there's a lot of good stuff here. The world is built well, the atmosphere is perfect, the visuals are good, the enemies are cool and well thought-out (and often quite terrifying). You're playing the part of an under-powered scavenger struggling to keep your colony alive. The combat is rewarding, and scary enough to make you think twice about it. - a great concept overall making for very unique game play. So why the negative review? It's probably what every other negative review says, but I'll put it here again - WATER So if you haven't already read about this, here's the gameplay loop: 1. Start at your base, called "The Innards" 2. Gear up and select a mission 3. Go through your mission (15 minutes - 1 hour + depending on play style) 4. Return to your base with the loot you've collected OK but what's water and why does it matter? - Essentially, water is what runs your base. There is a limit to how much water you can take back with you each mission. In the early game, you can only take one "large item" (one unit of water is a "large item") back with you to your base. As you collect more water, more people move in to your base, and more and more shop vendors will sell to you, granting access to better weapons and gear which lets you be more aggressive and take more risks in missions. So this in itself isn't a bad system - gradual progression - there's a reason to keep playing. EXCEPT - the amount of water in your base diminishes over time. Not IN-GAME time, REAL time. When your base runs out of water completely all of your progress resets (including your inventory, money, everything - just like starting a new game). If you are a casual player playing 1-2 times per week, only playing for an hour or two each time, this game is basically arcade-style. There is no progression. You're going to be low-level playing hide-and-seek with enemies - and maybe you'll get better over a few missions - maybe even get enough water to unlock the first store, but the next time you play you're going to have to do it all over again. A lot of other people talk about the glitches, the AI, tanks spontaneously going into orbit, but those things don't bother me in an early access game. The devs for this game are excellent. The're actively working on the bugs, and they have a good read on what the community wants out of the game - actively tweaking game play to reflect what the community wants. However, on this one water issue they've held fast - even introducing "water thieves" which can further accelerate your inevitable game reset. They're well aware of the fact that a large portion of their player base would like to see changes to this system (most of the negative reviews mention this, as well as many of the positive ones), and they've responded by doubling down for some unknown reason. Water mechanics aside - I like this game, and I'd even recommend buying it if you find the concept interesting and don't mind a challenge (this is how I choose view this game). Just don't come in with the expectation that you can casually play this game and get to experience all of it's content (thus why I can't recommend it overall).Show moreShow less
don't get influenced by reviews about low performance on a 30 min old game in early access, released early because the playerbase demanded it Game is quite good in terms of graphics, gameplay, the idea of the game itself. Soundtrack is fire Coop is best for thisShow moreShow less
Currently, the devs are quietly locking items and quests behind multiplayer. While most wouldn't see this as an issue, the game itself was, in its day 1 vid advertised as being completely playable solo. This move towards multiplayer comes immediately after notifications about console release, so you all know what that means: SHAREHOLDERS. The game has decided to treat players as a metric instead of delivering the game they promised, bragged about, and talked smack about other companies over. FunDog has inevitably returned to its AAA roots and bent the knee to the almighty red line instead of sticking to its guns. Save your money and buy the art book when it comes, hopefully they won't patch that with disappointment as well and have the integrity to deliver something that sticks to their word this time around instead of back-alley patching mainline quests and loot mechanics with multiplayer locks. ________________________________________ A bunch of salty people need to get off of fundogs ♥♥♥♥ but they can't because they're knotted up at this point. So let me pull it out for them. I posted my review after looking at FunDogs financial information since 2017 compared to now. Lets take a look at their original pitch that got them past seed state and compare it to the direction change that happened when as 02 Feb 2025. The date when they accepted venture capitalist investments. Not saying it was a buyout but suddenly the devs are confused about what their own games going to be? Its literally so bad even Miles can't keep his answers straight or answer at all during the Q'n'A's over the games actual direction, only resorting to the very gamered lines of hard for casuals/squad play. Its literally boardroom buzzwords wrapped around a non-answer, from an actual dev about their own game. Weird... unless you didn't fail the supposed critical thinking portion of elementary level tests. Miles doesn't know the direction anymore because he's got a investor to make happy and the direction is wherever the $$ is. Now lets dig into those funding parties instead of staying stuck on the dev's knotted ♥♥♥♥ like a scottish slag. Take look at their track records and the expectations of who they fund. Those same VC's have a market strategy they expect to be followed and it can be tracked right back through the other games they've backed. Well there it is, and guess what? You don't need the company to make 'a statement' of any kind when you can catch them in the back alley shaking hands with the reps you ♥♥♥♥♥♥-nuts. Yes you can 'play solo', playing isn't the issue. You were advertised a complete game and either you haven't played enough to find the hidden quests or realize that the railgun requires a team or don't understand what completely playable means in reality outside of accepting corporate lube. We are in EA and Bunco's quest as well as the railgun and any loot it drops is already locked behind a 4/4 squad. That's literally the hidden intro quest and the only end-game content currently available. Lets do some addition now. 180 degree change from SP PvE "You can Rock and Roll even solo" to squads locked features, Miles clear confusion about the game, dodging and refusing to answer simple direction questions in the latest Q'n'A, and the overly tired business strategy of the capitalist group who back FunDog now? They are farming lobby metrics on pc to pitch for the expanded release platform and Miles was clearly waiting on the updated script on what the new investors expect TFW to be. GALAXY INTERACTIVE (FunDogs new investor) LITERALLY HAS THEIR OWN ROADMAP FOR EXTRACTION SHOOTERS FFS PEOPLE. HEADS OUT OF ASSES.Show moreShow less
Love it so much! My one complaint, the water system. I work long days, and sometimes I'm too tired to play that night. The fact that I'm constantly losing water even when I'm offline means that I cant rally make any progress on that area unless i grind for hours on the weekends, which i cant because i do other things too. Just my one complaint, at least make it so you only lose water online.Show moreShow less
Newest edit: Steam is doing what steam does, and "curating" reviews. IE; censoring people's negative opinions to glow up the game. It hovered around 50% mixed for a while, crawled up to 65% and then in roughly a single day the game's mixed reviews just disappeared. Steam isn't even bothering to differentiate between "recent reviews" and "all time reviews". Yeah that doesn't seem the least bit suspicious whatsoever. Avoid this game. Another edit: They changed how water works. But it still is used up while offline. Missing the entire point of the issue again, so I still will not be buying this POS. Yet another edit: They hit "Water 3.0" and removed the offline drain. Still will not buy the game as they took so long to finally admit that the water drain was such a massive f*cking bad idea that my interest in the game is now completely gone. Original review: Interesting premise and a game I was seriously looking forward to. However, the devs have decided that water, the most important resource in the game (as it allows your underground community to flourish and grow, including adding new vendors to shop from), will be consumed in real time. Whether you are playing or not. And should you run out of water while you're at dinner with your family, or visiting your sick grandma in the hospital? All your progress. Gone. Vendors, gone. Guns, gone. Everything, gone. Their stated reason is that they want you to be anxious about your resources, even if you're off your pc and touching grass. They want you constantly thinking about the game. And in order to make the collection of water less "tedious", they've just decided to make water plentiful and easy to get, which is...antithetical to the entire idea?? No thanks, devs. I've refunded the game, and I won't be coming back until you do the right thing and get rid of this FOMO lite practice. I have other games I want to play, and I have other things in my life I want to do without having to essentially be dragged back by force just to ensure my hard work isn't arbitrarily deleted. Make water hard to find. Make it be consumed only when I am actively loaded in and playing the game. Then I might change my review and repurchase the game. Edit: There seem to be so many people who are emotionally invested in this product. It's absolutely insane the level of Stockholm Syndrome people have over a f*cking videogame developer and will rush to defend them like they're best buddies. The devs have made an awful choice concerning the way water is consumed while offline. I have every right to leave a negative review because I don't want my hard work deleted just because I felt like doing something else for a week or two. Cope, seethe and mald.Show moreShow less
