I don't usually leave a review but in this case... I have 267 hours of play time while i have waited and waited for an update that will never come (it gets easier once you accept that). This game is dead. No seriously. There's been no updates in almost 2 years to the game other than a beta branch that showcases...Nothing?? This has become nothing more than a blatant crash grab How I wish steam would allow for refunds once this happens. From a quick google. Owner estimates Gamalytic: Estimates around 1.28 million owners SteamSpy: Estimates around 1.38 million owners VG Insights: Estimates around 1.60 million owners PlayTracker: Estimates around 1.74 million owners The Long Drive made an estimate $30,294,414.15 in gross revenue since its release. Out of this, the developer had an estimated net revenue of $8,936,852.17. There is No reason for lack of updates at this point... other than its abandoned.Show moreShow less
I drove 125 km, robbed and shot multiple people and took their gas and ammo. Then i got home and played the long drive with my friends, 10/10Show moreShow less
Edit: Effort is being made on the game again in the beta branches, multiplayer is starting to get fixed and terrain generation is getting updated. Devs released a new game "Poly Roam" while leaving long standing issues in The Long Drive. Decided to mention everyone and call people unhappy "Little ♥♥♥♥♥" and "Pathetic" on the discord. Updates have been delayed to work on this new game which looks extremely similar to the old game. This negative review is for the issues with multiplayer which still haven't been fixed. I've been waiting for months to see the terrain desync fixed in multiplayer and they push out a new game instead.Show moreShow less

EDIT: DO NOT BUY - The game will never be finished or polished, from the developers themselves: https://youtu.be/Tct08ks2x-o?t=2461 (watch for 30 seconds and listen to what they say about their own game.) "It would be nice to have the game finished or polished... but I don't think that will happen..." If you are thinking about getting this game because you saw a video and thought, that seems like a pretty chill and enjoyable game. Know this... The base game (not what you saw in the videos) is barren, with horrible driving physics, with nothing but the occasional random structure, giant killer rabbits that have the most basic of pathing, 4 biomes that get extremely repetitive and are very VERY bland and practically baren with little to nothing to interact with, a small selection of vehicles (look it up on the wiki), and a player avatar straight out of 1996 with the movement physics to boot. What you saw in the video was somebody playing a heavily modded game. THE MODS, are NOT available ANYWHERE (not the steam workshop, NOT Nexus, or anywhere else.) BECAUSE, you have to "JOIN A PRIVATE DISCORD" where they give you the base file that allows you to mod the game. Discord in general mines your data, discords like the one you need to join here, will have a heavily restricted setting where you have to verify your PHONE NUMBER and are likely affiliates to discord who profit off of it's member count. You have to remain in it to get the updates to the base file in order to keep the mods working. It's also worth mentioning that people constantly get randomly banned from there without knowing why... again, it's a privately ran discord. The base file is called (at the time of this review) "TLDWorkShop_7.3" My personal view of all of this is one of bad business and poor marketing. Why would you direct a small player-base that you are trying to grow, away from the platform in-which your game is sold on and forcibly subject them to a cult like community in order to get the thing that makes your game playable? The base game has been out for almost 3 years now and plays like it just started it's full time development a few months ago. It has major optimization problems despite the game being low resource intensive. All in all, not worth the time unless you are insanely bored and can pick it up for a few bucks. SUGGESTIONS For the Developers: First and foremost, push for the steam workshop and do away with this discord nonsense. Secondly, address the driving physics and the obstacles you put in the road. It's cheap, there are better ways of creating difficulty and challenge in the game. You could easily replace the rocks with gravel, have each biome present it's own difficulties on and off the road. Different threats per biomes would be nice as well and of course, more biomes and more extreme topography that influences the curves of the road, greater slopes, dead forest, mountains, Bridges, pit falls, ect. Thirdly, the objects spawning in from the structure/terrain entities to the vehicles spawning in at the buildings. You really need to implement some form of detection so if there is an object there, they won't spawn or something. Too many times I have loaded in and a vehicle merges and destroys my own. OR I'm driving off road and an object spawns 20 feet directly in front of me causing me to crash into it. Lastly, the loading in bit and the loose items of the vehicle. Even when using baskets, if you save your game while sitting in your vehicle, when you load in, everything burst out of the baskets. There are so many simple render and loading issues, that it begs the question if this is your first game you are developing. In closing, I look at this game and think about the possibilities and the very premise, it's one that a bigger company could easily swoop in and take over the genre. The premise is pretty amazing if only you had some sound story and structure with it. Good Luck, but I won't be recommending this game to any community until you address your primary issues first.Show moreShow less
I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single farther to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.Show moreShow less
*EDIT* Since my last review, there have been a couple of more updates, yay! I seem to have annoyed a few people because I called a game they like mid :((( That's the payment for posting an actual opinion instead of just putting something extremely funny like "car go brrr" after 1 hour of gameplay. --------- If there was ever a game that needed a half-thumbs-up/down (depending on your view of life) it would be this one. The game is hilarious, especially with friends. The janky physics make the game funnier than if it was to have a more 'grounded' approach. However, there is very little to do. I understand that the game is meant to feel empty, but there are very, very few buildings and you can count the different variation of buildings on one hand. There are a lot of items in the game which do literally nothing. It feels odd that the dev would add these when there are so few useful items in the game to begin with. The items don't need to be good, but they should do *something!* There is a lot of potential here, and these issues can easily be addressed with updates, but the updates of the game have been very few and far between so don't hold your breath.Show moreShow less

I was permanently banned for "Disrespectful and toxic behavior" when I said I'm not giving out my phone number just to download mod support. Then the entire thread gets deleted. Now I can't talk to other players or even get tech support. How did it come to that? I was trying to download a mod loader that's only available on their discord, but they don't let you download it until you give them your phone number. Of course I refused. Obviously they would want to sell this information to scammers, hackers, and other bad actors, assuming that's the worst they want to do with it. Naturally, I don't want that. When I posted that I'm not giving out my phone number so they can get some kind of kickback for it, they permanently banned me and deleted the entire thread. I didn't even make the thread. I came in on page 3 and they still did a full nuke. How to get entire threads deleted: Go to the Steam discussions for TLD. Go into any thread. Post: "I'm not going to dox myself just to download workshop support." Wait patiently for your permanent ban. You can do a search for "phone number" in their discussions and find all kinds of threads where it's people refusing to give theirs out and the thread gets locked shortly after. Of course those are only the locked threads. It's impossible to search how many threads have been deleted, as they have been deleted. A dude got banned for saying scammers and discord pedos are bad. Another guy got banned for having a Wolfenstein profile picture. And another user got banned for making a joke about H.P. Lovecraft's cat. I don't know what the joke was but it must have been HILARIOUS. Just awful. Don't give these people money. I would take mine back, if I could. UPDATE: I've been banned so hard, I can't even post comments in my own review now. I can post comments in my other reviews without issue, but not this one. And when I try to post a comment, it always says "Sorry, some kind of error has occurred: There was a problem posting your comment. Please try again." It's been doing this for like a week so there's clearly some kind of shadowban happening. I'm really finding out how much clout the dev of TLD has. Valve would sooner burn down Steam than let someone lightly criticize TLD. Is he Gaben's son or something? So I guess I'll just answer questions here? What else can I do? @Hideo Kushima It looks like they're currently nuking me for it. @я такая kawaii ♡ I don't have discord installed. I access it through a browser, and even then, not very much. I basically never use it, unless some dev insists I get tech support through it. I don't use any of those things like facebook or twitter. I'm just here to game. @Thudnok Thanks man. From what I've been told, they've abandoned TLD. The ironic part is I was defending them before all of this. There's another game called Drive Beyond Horizons that's basically a copy-paste of TLD, and I belittled its devs for blatantly stealing someone else's work. But that was before I found out about all of the ban happy stuff TLD's mods have been doing. So I guess here's the other game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2625420/Drive_Beyond_Horizons/ It will probably also be abandoned at some point, but at least there's a free demo. @EraZer_ I actually did contact Steam support. I did that before writing this review and they said: "Thanks for writing in to Steam Support. I understand your frustration. This community hub ban was issued by the developer's moderation staff. Developers follow the Global Rules & Guidelines, but they may also have specific rules regarding what content is acceptable in their game hub. We won't be reversing their decision, so we recommend contacting their support team for further information and to appeal: The Long Drive support(link) Steam Support Petsy This help request has been closed." My objection wasn't even really with the ban, but more that Valve seems to be okay with anybody using Steam to harvest user data like that. They don't even want a cut? @JustmeWayne It's weird that they have it on discord at all, and no where else. I guess they don't want just anybody to download it? It's only for certain people? @fluf ball looking weeb That modloader is outdated. It says so on the same site. And do you know what a kickback is? The tech industry gets nearly all of its money from ad revenue and selling user data. You think discord wouldn't pay them or give them any kind of incentive for helping farm user data? Like it's discord itself that wants the phone number, so I guess permanently ban paying customers right? Does that make sense to you? Don't bootlick. It's a disgusting habit.Show moreShow less
